So what do I think about this novella? I guess I'll say what I always say after reading a novella and liking it:
IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A FULL LENGTH NOVEL, DAMMIT!

But for a short and steamy story it was great - likable characters and a pretty intriguing story.
SO.
What do you do if your girlfriend asks you to get it on with another dude in front of her?
You go online, of course, and find a suitable male individual to record a video with.
Then present the video to your girlfriend on her birthday.
Best birthday present EVER, right?
Bound to get you laid.
Except she's your GIRLFRIEND and she's giving you some on the regular basis anyways.
Just go with it.
(Something about making your loved one happy.)
Right.
So you meet up with said male individual and he might or might not make you PRACTICE before recording the video.

This book! Warning Rant Ahead!
My Major Pet Peeve: is explicit on page MF sex in an MM book, you do not need to write about a character having sex with a woman on page to prove they are bisexual.
I gave up at when our MC hooks up with her girlfriend on-page AGAIN. After sucking cock.
So previous page:
“Fuck me with your mouth,” he moaned, and I did too, the rumble vibrating in my chest and making my dick want out of my pants. I grabbed his ass then took him all the way in, my mouth pressed against his groin. “Oh, fuck. I’m gonna come. If you don’t want…” And then he exploded.

I was like yay finally!

It was hard to hide the truth. “I knew you’d be surprised.” She shrugged, circling my nipple with the tip of her finger. “But I can’t say I don’t think about it. Because I do. And, since our relationship is kind of open,” her grin was devilish, “I fully support it.”
Hmmm!
So he goes online to find a hook-up and from there IMO is a disaster. Their whole interactions is so creepy and the dirty talk……Argrhhh!
This story will probably be enjoyable to the fans of this author’s MF books who are willing to take a little walk over to the MM side, but for hardcore die hard MM readers, I would not recommend this.

A deep sensual and provocative M/M romance that will sure leave readers blissfully satisfied. Behind His Lens by Beth Michele was a well-written love story that captured the sentiment love is love. While M/M romance may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I loved that Michele explored the different facets of raw emotions and sexuality as the hero explored this newfound desire to be with a man.
Although this novella is short and fast paced, I never felt the story was rush because the author did a great job detailing and providing insights on her characters. She allowed readers to see behind their eyes. So if you are ready to get lost in a story that beautifully weaves self-discovery, heart, romance, steam and lots of passion then I suggest you give this novella a try.

This was like reading MF with peen.
Colt and his friend with benefits, Willow, are fucking (on page) when she says she's wants to see him and another guy together. Colt flashes back to a scene when he was a kid of him and his friend Tyler and the crush he had on him. This left me a bit confused. Tyler is mentioned several times in the book. In fact he's thinking of Tyler during his first blowjob from Jake. Is Jake going to end up being Tyler? Is Tyler going to come out later in the book? So instead of telling the girl no, he looks up someone online, Jake, whose real name is Sean, who makes videos or escorts or something. I don't know because it's never said or clear what the hell the videos are or why he does them, it's just kind of implied. I couldn't figure it out though. Was he trying to hook up with Sean to see if could be with a guy or were they just going to shoot a video of them going at it for the girlfriend? Colt goes to Sean's apartment to meet him and freaks out because Sean is kinda creepy. They talk and Colt explains how nervous he is, he feels uncomfortable but he still goes back. Sean mauls him after promising to take it slow. It was all so pushy and Colt was so uncomfortable, it frankly made me uncomfortable, too. They hook up and Colt keeps freaking because Jake comes on so fucking strong. In case you didn't realize Ms. Michele set Colt up to be our heroine of the story. In fact, at one point they are in bed together and Colt says he's not ready to have a dick up his ass yet, Sean gets mad at him for it and Carla *ahem* I mean Colt, just runs out while scrambling to pick up his clothes like a simpering damsel. Huh.
Nope, not my jam. The whole time Jake is coercing Colt and yeah, Colt is bisexual and Jake turns him on but I found the constant pressuring and how hard Jake came on a complete turn off. Honestly, it was kind of rapey because you can feel Colt's unease in the beginning and if Colt would've been Carla it would've been wrong. I didn't find them hot together anyway. I found the whole story to be completely implausible not because of the situation because of the characters and how they were written. I just didn't feel the chemistry or the connection and frankly, I wanted Colt to go back and find his first crush, Tyler or back with Willow instead of Sean.
Ugh, I just didn't like this one at all. Cannot recommend.

OH DAMN! I loved this hot, sexy, dirty M/M romance! My only complaint? I wished it was longer!!!
The story made me fall in fast love with both Colt and Jake. The sexy scenes had me fanning myself repeatedly! I am new to the m/m genre but this little taste of heaven makes me want to read more!
Beth is a new to me author and I will definitely be checking more of her work out! Behind His Lens is a short story but packs a moan worthy punch...right to the g-spot!

This novella was a pure joy to read. The passion was through the roof but apart from that the emotions are beautifully described here as two men fall in love.
This read was hot and steamy and features an unexpected love story. Colt finds himself attracted to a man, a stranger no less which leaves him confused and lost but his newly minted feelings are too strong to ignore. Things escalate quickly as the all-consuming chemistry between them boils over. What started as an unusual task to add spice to his sex-life turns Colt's life upside down leading him towards 'true love' for the first time.
This is a short story but the author has incorporated everything to make the journey of our MCs plausible and enjoyable. From their fears, vulnerabilities to their rising passion and then to ultimately falling in love, the journey was sweet and romantic with the added zing of ‘steamy heat’, load of it.
The ending was perfect and it will leave you wanting for more. It’s a perfect novella you want to keep handy for when you are in the mood for a shot of passion along with a sweet and well-written romance.

Talk about being out of my element. I was the first one to talk dirty. To like it dirty. But to be on the receiving end of it, from another guy? The intensity ratcheted my heart rate up about a thousand percent.
Colt Alexander isn’t sure how to react when the woman he’s casually seeing asks to watch him hook up with another guy while she watches. At first, he’s very much against the idea but the more he thinks about it, the more he’s curious about it and reaches out to someone he found on the internet to help him with the birthday gift he wants to give to Willow. He’s never much been into guys, well except that one time when he was a teen and had a crush on a friend, but that’s as far as it ever went. When he meets the sexy and confident Jake Donovan, he’s a little uneasy with how strong Jake comes on to him. But for some reason, he can’t manage to stay away. What starts as a solely a request to make something dirty for his sorta-girlfriend, quickly becomes much more than Colt ever bargained for.
“I have a certain appeal, don’t I?”
I chuckled. “Yeah. It’s called ‘cocky as hell.’”
His lips curved. “Hey, I didn’t get this far by accident. I know my own power, what can I say?”
This was a fast paced, sexy and dirty romp that was quite fun to read! Some of the things that happened, or the rationale behind them, weren’t entirely plausible but it’s one of those books that you just have to roll with. Especially being a novella, certain things are sped up or glossed over in favor of sticking within the page count. That being said, there was still some pretty decent character development even though it was so short. The heat factor was very high, let’s just say that Jake had quite the dirty mouth on him. He was very assertive and went after Colt with gusto. Some may find it creepy, but there was enough of his backstory to make me not think that was the case. Either way, I thought this was a fun and quick read that’ll have you reaching for a fan!

If you're looking for something that you can devour in a couple hours, something that puts your Kindle in danger of combusting from all the scorching heat, and something that will leave you with the biggest smile on your face? This is your book.
It's extremely fast paced and thus a bit insta-lovey - and while I might have liked to have felt a little more emotional connection on top of that fiery physical connection throughout the book - Ms. Michele delivered the emotion in spades with that completely adorable, swoonworthy ending.
In the end, Behind His Lens is a sinfully scrumptious story with a little more depth than I expected from such a short offering. I loved it - I loved the characters, loved the story, and -- most especially -- loved the happy feeling in my heart as I flipped the last page. ~ Shelly, 4.5 Stars

It's extremely fast paced and thus a bit insta-lovey - and while I might have liked to have felt a little more emotional connection on top of that fiery physical connection throughout the book - Ms. Michele delivered the emotion in spades with that completely adorable, swoonworthy ending.
In the end, Behind His Lens is a sinfully scrumptious story with a little more depth than I expected from such a short offering. I loved it - I loved the characters, loved the story, and -- most especially -- loved the happy feeling in my heart as I flipped the last page. ~ Shelly, 4.5 Stars

For "MM" readers who need to know, this novella is bi. Colt is in an open relationship with a woman, Willow, who wants to watch him with another guy.
I'm fine with all genitalia in my reading but I know others who read in my primary genre - MM - aren't necessarily keen on this. Reader be warned.
The chemistry was slow to get started, for me, and I could have slapped Colt several times for his stop-start confusion. Apart from the physical, I didn't know why Jake wanted Colt so badly initially. I also had an issue with (Colt) a fifteen year old not into girls like Tyler was, Tyler being the object of his crush, now a twenty five year old who is completely into pussy, completely oblivious to desiring men. It's not like he was questioning until Willow forced his hand and some time was spent with Jake. This is the primary reason why this book needed more development and length.
But while most boys were noticing that Stacy Kerwin had a great rack, I was noticing the gold in Tyler’s deep brown eyes.
Overall, Behind His Lens is a sexy romance novella. As the book progressed the author increasingly relaxed into it, and the guys developed some more. Beth Michele has a nice, easy to read style, complete with sexy times and HEAs. I really enjoyed Chasing the High last year but Behind His Lens didn't grab me quite as much. I do believe this is a case of size matters.

So, so hot.
This is my first Beth Michele book, although I had Chasing the High sitting on my Kindle before I grabbed this one. I will now bump it to the top after reading this!
The premise of Behind His Lens was really intriguing and because I'm a big fan of the gay-for-you trope I was excited to dig into the story.
As I said there at the top, this novella is HOT. I mean the kind of hot where you want to make sure no one is reading over your shoulder while you have your Kindle out at lunch hot.
For the second time in his life Colt finds himself attracted to a man, and once again has no idea how to deal with his feelings. What was supposed to be one thing turned into so much more. Jake is someone Colt never saw coming, but he realizes this is one opportunity he can't afford to let pass him by.
While I was a little bothered by Jake's attitude at times, he ran really hot and cold and made me think there was something a little sinister going on there, there was no denying the pull between the two.
Smoking hot, oddly compelling, and totally engaging, Behind His Lens left me wanting more from these characters.

Wow! This is one steamy novella! The chemistry between Colt and Sean is intense and palpable. And did I mention HOT? Because, wow. And while that would have made for a satisfying short story alone, Beth Michele has given us more. There is emotion and sweetness woven in with the off-the-charts physical attraction that has these men undeniably gravitating towards each other. I thoroughly enjoyed Behind His Lens and wish I had more of these guys.

Did I love this novella? Hells yes I did!
I received an ARC late yesterday, and I stayed up late reading it. I loved the story THAT much! I did not want to put it down...I DID NOT want it to end!!!
I literally have no complaints about this novella, AT ALL! Every word from start to finish drew me in. I loved these two guys and their journey towards each other.
A definite MUST read!!!

Five Colt Stars
I started reading this on the bloody train heading to work... during peak hour. I was beet red & so turned on, it wasn’t funny. I’m sure commuters could tell what was happening in the pages of my Kindle. Although, I have no shame, this story was effing hot. Even the scenes with Willow – God Damn!
My only suggestion is to make it a full novel rather than the bite size novella that we received. Hmpf, it’s over.
Now to wallow in pity until I find my next read.

3.5 Cocktails
This was definitely a hot novella. I ran into my novella "issue" at the end, wanting more character and relationship development, but pushing that aside this was a good read. If you haven't read a m/m romance before, this one could be a great book to test yourself with.

REVIEW: 4.5 STARS
"Frozen in place by his kiss, and his words, I watched him walk away, wondering if he wasn't the only one losing control."
This book was FUN! and HOT! and STEAMY! Holy cow...wow. I have read a few of Beth Michele's book, but I definitely think this one was her hottest one yet! Did I mention it was hot? No.....hmmm.

"Before he came along, I'd all but forgotten what this felt like. Not being able to keep your hands off someone, consumed by thoughts of touching them, fucking them."
I didn't highlight much as I was reading through this quick novella, because once I got into the story, I was sucked right in. Literally!! But one thing that stood out for me was when Colt finally accepted that maybe he's denying himself something that is instrumental to who he is. The setup, while it was a tad bit awkward at first, proved to be the perfect catalyst for their story. Once Colt seeming to come to terms with what he was feeling, it was one hot meeting after another. And pssst......Jake was one sexy, cocky son-of-a-gun!!! I liked that he made Colt squirm and made him feel things he couldn't explain himself.
Not a lot I can say and not give anything away, novella size and all, but I definitely liked the fact that it had a full sized "punch" when it came to the feelings. I felt the insecurity, the curiosity, and the relief that came once Colt realized who he was and was able to admit it and move forward with his desires.
For being a novella, I didn't feel like the story was lacking anything....which is crazy for me. I'm not a huge novella reader because it usually lacks a buildup and a smooth transition from scene to scene without feeling jumpy and "quick". The pacing was great, the characters were fleshed out pretty well, and the ending was PERFECT. It made me have a little giggle-smile there! This was a really great story and I can easily recommend it!!

Sinceramente esperaba algo más de este libro de lo que me dio y es que bueno, tenemos a Colt, un chico que durante su estancia en la escuela tenía un enamoramiento por un amigo pero nada más, tiempo después siguió con su vida y consiguió tener novia porque nunca se consideró gay ni nada por el estilo dado que solo con este chico logro sentir lo que sintió, pero una noche mientras tenia sexo con su novia esta le confiesa que una de sus mayores fantasías es ver a dos chicos juntos teniendo sexo, pero en el momento precisamente a él, lo cual le hace recordar su crush de la juventud y sentirse confundido sobre su sexualidad, pero independientemente de todo por querer complacer a su novia y como está próximo su cumpleaños es como decide llevarlo a cabo y es así como conoce a Sean, un chico que hace vídeos a cambio de dinero; Todo esto sirve como premisa para adentrarnos a una historia corta sobre identidad sexual ya que al final acepta su bisexualidad pero también mezclado con un poco de romance, cosa que no me pareció de los más creíble porque fue más que nada un instalove cargado de erotismo pero que no alcanzo a mis expectativas después de varios libros homoeroticos que he leído, me dejo con ganas de más, si bien la premisa de la historia me aprecio interesante y considero que daba para mas como por ejemplo hacer una historia más larga y detallada, sin duda me decepciono un poco, simplemente me pareció entretenido pero sin más.

Cue the denial dance, hot and cold all mixed with a heavy dollop of insta-lust and repetitive sex scenes (oh and another near MF scene in Chapter 6) and a sort of wild take on is this cheating or not?
Luckily this was short as it left me cold apart from being mad they never filmed a video for the girlfriend (which is apparently what they wanted to do? Also in the secret texts)
