How one book can ruin an entire series...

And I don't say it because of Jim's death...I mean it was kind of obvious it was going to happen and it was time for him to be with the love of his life again.

But come on! Olive too? Wtf was that. Was that really necessary? I really don't see its purpose. To make at least two of the characters (Falyn and Trenton...and I'm not even counting her parents!) unable to move on?

And after all of that, we don't even get to see how they felt about all of this. It's just the funeral and then The End. Great.

So that leaves us with the possibility of imagining everything we want concerning what happened to the family after that. Good or bad. And let me tell you, with how the book was written, and by that I mean the tension and anger between the Maddox brothers and even the wives, what pops in my mind is not great.

I mean, let's be honest here. If they all were so angry because of the lies and some even blamed Travis for Thomas' "death" and for putting their families in danger, I'm sure now they are really going to blame Travis and Thomas for Olive's death. So that would mean that the family is really broken up now.

Falyn will never forgive them. Same with Trenton. And also, they (Thomas and Travis) will never forgive themselves for the death of an eighteen year old girl with a beautiful future waiting for her. So that's nice. Thumbs up for the blame, the guilt and the sadness everyone is going to live with.

Even if the author doesn't write it, it doesn't mean that it wouldn't logically happen.

So yeah...if it wasn't clear enough I'm angry and disappointed.

Empecemos....

'A Beautiful Funeral'. Life is unfair, messy and complicated. We have to live it like it's the last day on earth because we only get to live once. You took the 'I will love you forever' & 'Happily Ever After' to a whole new level.

I knew. i fucking knew it!! That i'll never be same after reading A Beautiful Funeral. There are just so many feels right now. Even i waited 2 days to write this review and yet i can't get the idea how to review this heartbreakingly good book.

I've always liked jamie's writing, DAMN i practically fell in love with her characters well okay plural' make it a particular character, Travis fucking Maddox. & this mas no exception. It was so nostalgic to read about the characters you loved so much.

“Tyler shook his head. “We started out together. We go out together, right?”(...)
Tyler stood up and walked around the table. He held out his hand, and when I grabbed it, he yanked me to my feet. “It’s just a desk. You’re my brother.”

Even though i haven't read any of Maddox Brothers Series and i won't ever but i still love and adore every Maddox brother with my every loving being. I love how they are together and it teared me apart reading about all they had to go through.. fucking emotions

I was soooooooo nervous picking this book because duh the book name spoke for itself. I don't wanted any of Maddox to have a Beautiful Funeral. For god's sake how would i want my characters to die. No way in hell. But my love for it made me impossible to escape this book. And i was right this book did break me but that's what our closest to heart books do to our bookish hearts.

I felt EVERYTHING. Everything. Their grieve, Pain, Heartbreaks, Confusion .. Everything. Thanks Jamie Thankyou soo much for writing a beautiful book about a family & about life.

I LOVED every moment of this book not just because of Travis, because of the Maddox Family they are a thrill to read, their love and relationship with each other is so loving and caring that it will make you fall in love with them. Even i teared up so many times reading this book. After picking it i can't seem to stop reading it, i wakeup all night to complete this.
Totally Recommended.

Emotionally written.

This book is a surprise for me because I really thought The Maddox series has ended in book 4. I dunno why the author needs to elaborate the series. And to be completely honest, this is a game-changer. Which is why I felt that there's another sequel the author is cooking up.

As for the title, well, there were actually two characters who died. One scene, two deaths.

With regards to the brothers and their wives, I'm not surprised that Taylor and Falyn got separated. Right from the start, their relationship wasn't a healthy one.

For Travis and Abby, too many lies.

For Trevor and Cami, not surprised the author kind of downgraded Cami's character. She's full of herself having two brothers on her plate. And she just couldn't let go even if the author keep describing how Cami loves Trenton. It seems like she will always love Thomas whether Trenton or Liis exist or not.

For Tyler and Elise, this one at least is growing stronger.

And lastly, Thomas and Liis, they still have the best story.

REVIEW

*5 Stars*

Well. Where on earth do I start with this? I knew, I just KNEW, that with a title like that, this book was going to be intense. Boy was I right.

I was on edge and feeling angsty for the whole damn thing. I sped through this one, and just like all the other Maddox stories, I loved it. But this one made me suffer for it.

I was a blubbering mess by the end. Literally, I had tears streaming down my face. Yeah, thanks for that Jamie!

I loved how this book has everyone's POV's, it was great to have them all come together and see where they were at, all this time down the road. I love this family. This is one of my all time favourite series, and I know this was meant to be the end, but I want more. I will always want more of the Maddoxes.

The roller-coaster that this book takes you on, brings to a head issues from the previous books, but mainly the ones surrounding Travis and Thomas. I don't want to go into detail for those who haven't read this yet, but its a nice way to round things out and give some answers. I did feel that we missed out at the end with Olive, and things seemed to wrap up just a bit too fast, I would've liked it to carry on a bit longer, with a bit more depth or explanation, or something. It was a tad too sudden. Not really sure. I did really like the epilogue though. I thought that was a sweet way to round the book off.

That said though, there are still so many answers to things I want. There's a big question mark for me about where the family goes from here, and where they all go as their own individual families too. I want to know who forgives each other and who doesn't. I want to know if Cammi and Trent achieve the one thing they haven't so far, but want so badly. What happened with Taylor and Falyn? I just want to know more. And, I just want more because I'm greedy like that when it comes to those Maddox boys.

All in all though, I really did love this book and if you're a fan of the series I think you need to read it. I know my review sounds kind of conflicting, but I'm just trying to put into words how it made me feel. My overall thought for this book though is that its intense and I loved it.

2 Losing has never been easy ★'s

“From the moment you become aware of a secret, the inevitable question arises: what price will you pay to keep it?”

Have you ever read a book and wished with everything you had that you could go back and tell yourself not to read it? No? Yes? Well, this one is mine! Seriously WTF did I just read? I'm a huge fan of the Maddox boys, so it pains me to say that I did not love this book. In my opinion Jamie McGuire took all my happy endings and my heart then crushed it to dust, right in front of my eyes 😭!! A Beautiful Funeral was brutal to read and to be frank it pissed me off. The Maddox family has always been a close-knit family, they have always stood together, protected each other and their love has always been inseparable. Well, this book totally squashed that. There were sides taken, Maddoxes pitted against Maddoxes, lines drawn, fighting, arguing and even some punches thrown. All the secrets were laid bare and nothing but truths remained but there was also so so much drama. I kinda thought I was watching Jerry Springer for a while and that is NEVER a good thing!!! As if all that wasn't bad enough there was literally 13 freaking different POV's crammed into a 214-page book. No character has a distinct voice and everything has a rushed feel to it and it's really quite repetitive. Also, I really can't stand Cami, I wanted to slap her so much. This book was supposed to have a "major plot" but there is NOTHING being described. I am so utterly and completely disappointed. I hate that I read this because it kinda ruined the entire series for me. I don't understand how so many people loved this damn book! I just DON'T get it!! Not only were there TWO deaths, one of which was so uncalled for and it was just ridiculous. Whyyyy? Why McGuire did you have to do this to me? This book shattered my heart and left me feeling empty, unsatisfied and unfulfilled, which is very devastating because this was one of my favorite series :( I don't recommend reading this book just stop after reading Beautiful Burn, let that be your happy ending.

I don't even know what to write. I am so disappointed. I LOVE THE MADDOX BROTHERS!!! BUT THIS WAS UTTERLY RIDICULOUS! (in my opinion)

Even before the book came out, I already knew who was going to die and guess what? I was right. Which sucks, I love when books surprise me. This one definitely surprised me with how bad it was.

We literally get 13 different Point of Views in 220 pages of a book. No one has a distinct voice, everything is rushed and repetitive. We are getting tons of summary for a book that's supposed to have a "major plot" so there is NOTHING being described here.

I'm so over this book. Can I act like I didn't read this?

(O Elli, no importa).

Te atreves a hacerle algo a Travis o Abby o America o Shelpley y te la veras conmigo(?

Capiche?

There was nothing I wanted to do less
than walk into the house and play the part of
supporting wife and sister-in-law and ignore
that Thomas was also my first love, that we had shared
a bed more than once, and we had almost moved in together.
He had loved me, an I would have to pretend none of
that existed out of respect for his wife and my husband

ESO NO ES TODO.. LA PERRA SIGUE..
I still care about him. What happened between
us wasnt just erased because we went in
different directions

PERO POR SUERTE AHI ESTA ABBY.. HABLANDO POR TODOS NOSOTROS...

I´m sure this is confusing for you,
but you did not just go in diferent directions, Cami
You married his brother. He moved on.
You are not the grieving widow,
as mush as you want to be

GRACIAS ABBY TE AMO

1.5 Annoyed Stars

So, I think that I am going to pretend that Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster were the only Maddox books. I LOVED LOVED LOVED those. They were absolute 5 star reads for me. I have re-read them more times than I can count. Then with each additional book to the series, I have enjoyed them less and less.

Starting with the whole Camille dating 2 brothers storyline ... To Thomas being the wimpiest FBI agent ever whining over Camille. Taylor's douchey "we were on a break" Friends remake... Each book has gone down at least a star.

Now we get to this book. Please for the love all all things Travis let this be the last Maddox book. I know she was trying to catch us all up on everyone, but the way EVERYONE got a chapter made the book drag. Then, she made me dislike people even more. Trent became the holier than thou "you hurt my feelings by excluding me" brother. I disliked Camille even more for her special way of making everything about her. Falyn came off like a harpie. Tyler and Ellie basically just lift out because they serve no purpose.

The last 10% was the obligatory emotional cliche ending to force the family back together. On top of all of that, it's an book for $5.99. Not worth the money or the time it took to read. Just go back and re-read Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster. Travis and Pidgeon forever.

Awestruck. I read this book over a month ago then waited until release day to read it again before writing my review, but I read it slower this time. Taking the time to savor each and every detail, and still only one word can summarize how this book made me feel… Awestruck. Jamie McGuire has created a family that has buried themselves deep into the hearts and souls of her readers to the point that we feel like we are a part of their family. When the characters are in pain and agony, we grieve with them. When they are overjoyed, we too are elated. For an author to get her readers to experience everything her characters are feeling takes the pure talent of someone who has taken the time to refine and perfect her craft. That’s why when this novel was announced, even though I was out of my mind with worry, I trusted Jamie. I trusted that she would give us readers another heart stopping page turner that would leave us breathless with the beauty of her words. Which is exactly what she delivered and why I’m giving it five feathers. It deserves nothing less.

From page one, this book hits the ground running and doesn’t let up until the end. If it was a movie, I would be on the edge of my seat sitting up straight, muscles clenched, and holding my breath for whatever was thrown at me next. There were moments full of tension and suspense. Moments where everything was still and calm. Moments of joy and rejoicing. Moments where the tears seemed like they would never stop rolling down my cheeks. Each time I thought I had it figured out and the tears would start falling and my heart beat would spike, Jamie would pull a 180 on me that left me feeling either relieved, ecstatic, or grieving.

A Beautiful Funeral is unlike any Maddox story we have come to know, but it is by far the best. It’s told from the POV of the main characters of our beloved Maddox family. I really loved that McGuire chose to write it this way because it lets us see how each character has grown and developed as an individual. And on occasion I would catch a glimpse of their younger selves and smile. My favorite chapters to read were the ones that were told by Abby and Travis. Their story started it all and reading about their lives and getting to be inside their heads again was a full circle moment and felt like coming home.

This novel completely gutted me, but did so with ease and finesse. It’s so beautifully written and tastefully executed that I didn’t even care that my heart was breaking. And even though I did cry tears of sadness and heartbreak, it ended on a happy and heartwarming note. If you have any hesitation about reading this book, erase those fears from your mind because each tear you shed, each shocking moment you gasp at, and each smile that spreads across your face is worth it. Do not let the title scare you. If you do you, will miss one breathtakingly beautiful story.

3 burried ★★★✩
This book is for you if… you without a doubt consider yourself as a very big fan of the Maddox Brothers. The plotline is dull and somewhat implausible. I feel like the other 4 books, this has not much to do with Beautiful Disaster, which many people love to bits.

⤐Overall.
It's been a while since I've read Beautiful Disaster last. I've liked it so much that I still label it one of my favourites, though. But this book...well. Hm. uh. Where should I start? In all honesty, I somehow wasn't particularly excited for it in the first place which meant it would have needed to blow me away entirely for it to be more than the 3*-review that it is now. The reader experiences this story through many lenses and in my perspective, there is simply too much going on for this to be a satisfying read. Because we only get glimpses at the individual struggles that happen apart from the main plot, the story feels rushed and a bit messy. In general, I found the plot somewhat improbable. And it also took forever until it kicked off. On page 100 I literally was like "Why is this book so boring?"

Being introduced to Taylor and Falyn's older selves, for instance, made me want to read just about them and how they would get it back together. I could really dive into them, just as I did back when they had their own book. Strongly opposed to that, just like in their first book, Liis and Thomas remain a mysterium to me. I just can't connect to them. Even though they obviously have the most going on in this book. And in another stark contrast, I felt like Ellie and Tyler had almost nothing going on, which was also kind of messy.

I could keep on describing what I feel about each individual pair but let me just close this series by saying that I will most likely read Beautiful Disaster many many times over and never touch the other books ever again.

INDIGNADA!!!

Not sure what to say about it.
I loved it. 80% of that love is due to Travis being in the book a lot! ☺
I didn't really LOVE the previous few books.
But this was great again. Lots of Travis, lots of other characters.
Every chapter is told from another POV. All Maddoxes and their spouses get their say.
It was great. It was like a huge suspensy and very moving epilogue to the whole series!

Only the ending was completely stupid. Not the very end....that was just cheesy and sad. But the part before that, where all those smart FBI agents are so unbelievably stupid... well - it had to happen in some way.... it was ok - but still very stupid. ☺

Also - the writing. I felt another editor should've checked it before release. But it wasn't bad or anything like that. Just...another check would've been good.

BUT - I really enjoyed reading it.
(1.5 of those stars are for or rather because of Travis!!!☺☺☺)

SPOILERS

P.D. Jamie estoy esperando que actualices el fic

I was so disappointed in this book. I LOVED the first books. The characters were well-developed and their struggles were real. In this book, the family did nothing but argue the ENTIRE time. The boys were mad at Travis and Thomas because they didn't tell the family they were in the FBI. The girls were mad at Abby for not telling them the boys were in the FBI. Camille had a weird fascination and sadness about Thomas being "dead." America acted like a baby. The family was unnecessarily mad at Liis. The anger and separation between Falyn and Taylor was stupid. The mob tie wasn't believable. Olive dying was pointless. The story fell totally flat. It wasn't developed well at all and while I know it was supposed to be the conclusion to a great series, it did nothing for me but make me sigh in frustration. I was totally disappointed

Eh... Over the top, weird and imo completely unnecessary (just as every book in this series besides BD and WD). Also, the amount of kids in this book was ridiculous, I was cringing through all scenes including them lmao (I really don't like kids). Why did every couple have to have like a billion kids?

Also, apparently Falyn stayed with Taylor which pisses me off. I hate him. I didn't particularly like her either but she still deserves better.

I'm just really sad that Toto had died. That was the most heartbreaking part of this book.

Caratteristiche: drammatico, emotivo, commuovente
Stile narrativo: scorrevole
Tipo di finale: conclusione di serie

This book was a beautiful way to end the series. There have only been a few books that have made me cry. This is one of them. I truly loved that every Maddox and their wives each got their own chapter, with their own POV of the "situation". Even America and Shepley, because they have always been a huge part of it all.

Seeing all the boys with their wives and children was sweet. In a way, I felt part of the family. I have loved these characters from the beginning and enjoyed watching them grow. Then, the FBI/Vegas Mafia story had to come to an end. A heartbreaking one. The final chapter was so sad but I loved it so much. I'm sad this series is over but it ended perfectly.

Here is my quick rundown of some of the family...

Thomas- Still sexy as hell. I love him to death. He'd be my favorite if I liked a white collar kinda guy.
Travis- He IS my favorite! My real first NA book and I've never looked back. Hot, Brooding, Sweet, Tough...it doesn't matter Travis Maddox is IT for me.
Trenton- Still the most annoying brother. They all have tempers but his resembles a whiny little child.

Abby- My favorite wife. Although, Liis is so close to beating you! I LOVED when you had to stand up for Travis! They deserved your words.
And
Cami- I still hate her. Still, I mean, STILL a self centered Bitch! Thomas isn't yours anymore!!!! Trenton is awesome, boring yes, but awesome! For goodness sake, be happy with the fact you were able to score even one Maddox!

The Maddox brothers were a great family and (even if i hated some of the books) they all got their HEA... before.
This book, in my opinion, ruins it ALL. They will never be a family again. They will never be BROTHERS again. Not like before.
Guilt is gonna come between them. Resentment is gonna come between them.
Even if you dont see it within the story, how could it not? And even more after the last chapters.
Two Maddoxes are gonna live with profound guilt. One of the wives is gonna live with hate and regret. And the others (brothers & wives) will obviously take sides.
Sooooo sad.
I've decided that Im going to pretend that this book doesnt exist, because Im a writer myself, and I cannot BELIEVE J.M. cares so little about her characters to made them (and us readers) go through all this.

More like 2.5 *

I pretty much gave up on Jamie's writing. I could not get into the Maddoxes brothers' stories. And this one cemented it for me. I skimmed a lot and pretty much knew who the funeral was for. It really only made sense and the hints weren't really hints but huge truths. There was one death that was completely overlooked and that was sad. So much potential with that story. Had she not glossed over it. Well I hope we've seen the last of this Family. Travis and Abby were unrecognizable and Trent was just an angry human.

Taylor's life seemed to be going downhill fast and all these people having children, but being in their life and the children not knowing. Just, shake my head. One child, yeah. But TWO? All the different POVs scrambled the story a bit.

Abby has a baby. It's early. He's in NICU. And we never hear of him again. Taylor's one-time hookup shows up again. And of course, it spells trouble for Falyn, because her marriage is on the rocks. Just whiplash me now.

The Epilogue? I. HAVE. NO. WORDS. (meaning I hated it.)

Estou me perguntando qual a necessidade dele ter morrido? Jura?

I'm a huge fan of the Maddox boys, so it pains me to say that I did not love this book. Yes, I knew it would be sad, and it was. What I didn't count on was all the drama. While the characters reactions were realistic and warranted, it was all too much. I am happy with the way the other books ended and to me, this was an unnecessary book. If you're on the fence about reading this and are happy with the ending of the other books, I would recommend skipping this one. There are some happy moments, but those were overshadowed by the drama.
