Murder at the Pub

Small town life can be murder!

Not everybody gets to live in the town of Hampton, Vermont’s best kept secret. Is it fate or fortune that lures in the chosen few and deters the rest?

Mo and Alex Murray, running from a life altering tragedy, were among those ‘chosen’ by destiny to live in this trendy backwater town. But a quiet pastoral life is not to be; after buying and renovating the historic Black Horse Inn they soon realize that small town life can be full of mystery and murder!

Hampton is enjoying a new found prosperity and popularity, but when a group of gardeners arrive bringing with them a testy old biddy with a simmering secret, a Pandora’s box of unresolved issues and revenge from the past is opened: the affable pub owner with a secret can’t get out of town fast enough, somebody sees a photo they were never meant to see, and a recently released jailbird is about to make amends, or seek revenge for his sins two decades ago. What will he choose to do?

Can former policewoman Mo, and the delectable Sheriff Luther King figure out how these diverse worlds have collided in their sleepy town; will the inn ghost, Alice help or hinder; and who did the witch-like Mad Polly and her massive dog Max really see during one of her midnight woodland walkabouts?

Welcome to Hampton, the postcard pretty town at the end of a country road that seems to go nowhere. And, look carefully; you might just catch the glimmer of a ghost over your right shoulder!

Murder at the Pub is book two in the Black Horse Inn series by Lucinda D. Davis. A tiny backwater town in Vermont called Hampton lures Mo and Alex Murray, who hope for a quieter life. However, Mo and Alex Murray soon realize their wish for a calm life ends with Murder at a party. Mo Murray and the local Sheriff, Luther King, start to investigate. The readers of Murder at the Pub will continue to follow Mo Murray and Sheriff Luther King to discover what happens.

Murder at the Pub is a lovely, cozy mystery you can enjoy on a cold winter day with a cup of tea and your favourite biscuit. I have not read any books by Lucinda D. Davies before, so I wondered if I would enjoy this book. However, my fears were unfounded. I engaged with the characters and the story from the first page. I love Lucinda D. Davis's portrayal of her characters and how they intertwine throughout this book. Murder at the Pub is well-written and researched by Lucinda D. Davies. I like Lucinda D. Davies's description of the settings of Murder at the Pub, which complemented the book's plot.

The readers of Murder at the Pub will learn the consequences of hatred and grief on the person and the people around them. They will also understand the importance of not driving a car while drinking.

I recommend this book.

This second book in a series was 49 pages, and much of the first half of the book rehashed what was said in the first book. Again this could be a great series with a good storyline, the characters are well written and the town had a variety of people that make it inserting. Just very disappointed that it's so short, again I don't really consider this reading a book.

A fun and short cozy

A perfectly picturesque hamlet that no one can find is the setting for this cozy mystery. A quirky little town complete with a witch, a ghost and most neighbors. A good plot and excellent writing gives the reader a fun and suspenseful read.

This book wasn't very good. The inn that Mo owns is in Hampton, Vermont. It is not on GPS so it is very hard to find. How would the inn get guests if it can't be found? Why isn't there on sign on the highway exit? The ghost part is silly.
