Jordy Chapman is the Emergency Service Coordinator at Cypress Haven mental health facility in Naples, FL. She sees so much instability at work that she has adopted a zero-tolerance policy in her personal life. Jordy is content to run, hanging out with her best friend Steph, or to stay home and snuggle with her cat, Sammie. Romance the last thing on her mind. Keira Yeager’s family owns an upscale furniture store in Naples. A family tragedy and personal heartbreak has her concentrating on working at the store, or swimming in the pool behind her house. When Keira orchestrates a generous donation of furniture to Cypress Haven, she has no idea how this one event will change her life. When the two meet, they hit it off immediately and things heat up and turn passionate. Will the Yeager family’s anguish and misunderstanding threaten their new relationship?
As a Navy brat, Renee lived on three continents before her family settled in Virginia. She currently resides in Southwest Florida with her partner, Pam, and their poodle, Sabrina. Renee works and plays in the swamp, where she enjoys wildlife photography, kayaking, and hiking. Even though Renee has been paid to do all sorts of jobs, ranging from dental assistant to bartender, data entry clerk to maintenance worker, and field sampler to pet-sitter, she insists she’s only had one job—writer—and all the rest has just been research.
I've tried to like this one. But it's just not for me. Too many unwanted conversations with people who I can't remember. Jordy is working in a mental institution. She's good at what she does. And she's also trying to have a healthy living after her friend died of cancer. She and her best friend Steph meet up every Wednesday to jog. And after that they reward them selves of sushi I think I've read more about Rosie the Sushi than Keira herself. There's also a crazy ex. Whew!
‘Pausing’ started off as a girl meets girl but I wasn’t prepared for just how much I would be drawn into this powerful, emotional and frankly hot as hell story. Jordy works at a mental health facility and is trying to deal with an unstable ex-girlfriend when she meets Keira. There is no doubting the attraction between them and both are keen to take a chance. Some extremely serious issues threaten to get in the way though and it is how they deal with them that really had me hooked. Jordy was a strong and caring woman and I loved how she was there for everyone. Keira has been through a lot and being with Jordy was exactly what she needed. Their relationship was beautifully romantic and off the scale in the bedroom. I was really blown away by this book and cannot recommend it highly enough. Renee Mackenzie is a writer I look forward to reading more of.
I was given this ARC by Affinity ebooks Press in return for an honest review.
Working with the most vulnerable in society is complex, demanding and sometimes dangerous. I have never thought in this way to mental health before. This book was an eyeopener. It has just the right amount of details to understand what working in this field means, to understand the risks. Because of the experience gained in her professional life, Jordy sets clear boundaries for her personal life but when she meets a woman with the bluest eyes she had ever seen, Jordy's boundaries are fading. Is this enough or will her fear destroy her chance of a future with the love of her life? These are not the only obstacles because there is Liza. Liza is an interesting character and she is someone you can't ignore. Overall, this was an exciting story with strong personalities and a beautiful romance. I can highly recommend it.
This story was well done. It depicts the mental health providers with accuracy. The characters Jordi and Keira have such chemistry. Also, what the character Louie did sadly is something that happens while rarely but it does. It was an abuse of power which happens at times in caregiving positions. A well written love story and I enjoyed very much. Oh, let’s not forget cute and adorable Sammie. Such a sweet kitty!
Pausing is a beautiful story that addresses mental health and the sometimes dangerous field the workers encounter. It also reflects on how a mental disorder can effect the family. The chemistry between the couples is magnificent. I think that they are well matched. Renee Mackenzie wrote a beautiful story.
Jordy works as a mental health supervisor in a community clinic in Naples, Florida. She's newly out of a relationship with Liza, who has serious mental health issues and continues to contact Jordy for sex after the breakup. Jordy sometimes ends up giving into these advances and regrets it afterward. Keira is new to the area and has taken over management of her family's furniture store. After the suicide of her brother, she develops an interest in helping mental health clinics and decides to donate new furniture to the clinic where Jordy works. That is how the two meet.
This is a solid romance that kept me reading. The problems came in the final third when the author included two dramatic plot points (the first could have been better foreshadowed and the second seemed unnecessary). I wish the author had made some different choices in this regard.
I haven't read Renee MacKenzie before but I will correct that mistake. Pausing was just a great story. Well written and believable characters. Loved the 3 miles confession.
