Faeted #3

Caldren

Rate this book

FROM POPULAR GAY ROMANCE AUTHOR CAITLIN RICCI

Book three in the Faeted series

There’s only one place to go for a guaranteed happily ever after.

Caldren has been looking forward to having his own Faeted match for a long time. It’s what all the brownies do, and Faeted has always taken good care of them. As a brownie, he’s a gentle person who just wants to help his mate out and keep things clean. He likes honey, books and a tidy house.

He’s surprised when his mate turns out to be a dragon, at least, according to Faeted. They’re aggressive and powerful, so Caldren doesn’t think he would be a good match for someone like that, but his kind have always trusted Faeted to do what is best for them.

Bannock is a scary dragon, just as Caldren expected him to be. But he’s also fair and firm. He appreciates what Caldren is and what he needs. It isn’t long before Caldren realizes that sometimes a little brownie needs a dragon to be whole.

Caitlin was fortunate growing up to be surrounded by family and teachers that encouraged her love of reading. She has always been a voracious reader and that love of the written word easily morphed into a passion for writing. If she isn't writing, she can usually be found studying as she works toward her counseling degree. She comes from a military family and the men and women of the armed forces are close to her heart. She also enjoys gardening and horseback riding in the Colorado Rockies where she calls home with her wonderful fiance and their dog. Her belief that there is no one true path to happily ever after runs deeply through all of her stories.

1.5 dragon tears rounded up to 2 because you try crying a 1/2 tear and see if it can be done and still no 1/2 anything here on GR.

I think I'm done here...

I was so excited about this story. It was Caldren's story and he's a brownie, which I admit just tickled me silly because when I was little I was a Brownie...just in the Girl Guide definition but still I liked that Caldren and I had that connection. I know my son will tell you 'I'm a dork' not a problem I gladly own this. Now...where was I, oh yes, so Caldren's a brownie and he's gone to Faeted to find himself a perfect match and Dyslander has sent him to Bannock because Bannock who's....you guessed it a dragon! is Caldren's perfect match...oh happy me...a dragon and a brownie. Could life be any better I asked myself and then I read the...story?

And this is where my world came tumbling down...for me there was so much wrong with this one so let's start at the beginning...the cover...it's pretty, I like it. The guy on the cover fit the image of Caldren and well...dragon!!! So this is good and now it's all downhill for me.

Caldren is about as exciting as watching paint dry. He's so submissive he makes me cringe. Bannock says drop your drawers and he does it, Bannock says jump and he doesn't even ask how high...now, I get that he's a fairy and it's sort of a part of who he is to be incredibly submissive but couldn't he be submissive and still have a personality? Just a tiny one?

Speaking of personalities...we met Bannock in the second book...he kinda' kissed one of the MCs and at the end of the book he showed up at their place to apologize and I feel like maybe we saw a bit more personality in the Bannock that we met there than the one in this book because honestly he was kinda' milquetoast as well.

Now I get that we're not working with a lot of story here. My e-reader showed 35 pages. The story started on page 7 and ended on page 27 so that's roughly 21 pages. But truthfully that's about the same as what I got from the last book and I enjoyed that enough to give it 4 stars...so, I'mma thinkin' things could have gone a little better here because honestly what I got was 'Caldren goes to Faeted. Dyslander sends him to Bannock. The meet have sex...several times and they all lived happily ever after. The end.

Sadly this one's settling in at 1.5 sad little dragon tears and I'm not sure if there's more to come for this series but I think I'm done here.

Bannock and Caldren.

I adore these short reads from the Faeted serie, absolute adore them.
They are lovely, positive and endearing.

When Dyslander from the Faeted Matchmaking Agency matches Caldren, a delicate brownie, with a dragon, Caldren is surprised but has all the faith in Dyslander's choice.

When he sees his mate for the first time he knows that whatever he needed him to do in order to be better for him, he would do it—instantly. This was his mate, his future.
Bannock is sweet, patience and good humored and when he sees Caldren for the first time he sees a beautiful brownie. Only Caldren thinks he is plain. Bannock, with all his honesty, must convince Caldren of his beauty...
Their connection is instant, they are hot and tireless sexy together.

When Bannock whispers “Don’t ever go.” I melted... damn that was so lovely...and when Caldren answers “I promise. I won’t.” Swoooon This is the best mate match ever!

Written in a sweet swooning and very appetizing way...i have a wish for these fairy tales.... I so hope there will be lots and lots of them in prospect and....maybe even a longer one...because they always give me a delicious positive boost!

Caldren is a brownie, which is someone whose main goal in life is to make others happy by doing whatever they can for that person. Caldren goes to Faeted Matchmaking seeking his true mate.  Dyslander, the head of the organization rarely makes a mistake, but Caldren thinks he may have after being paired with a dragonshifter.

On the surface this story sounded like it was going to be interesting. Sadly it just wasn't.  Caldren is just so bland. I know he refers to himself as plain, but he didn't seem to have any personality-at least none that I felt. I understand the brownie is very submissive, but to blindly do whatever anyone says so quickly, just didn't work!

Bannock seems to get Caldren and his quirks-which is ok, but I didn't feel any spark or general chemistry between the two. How long will Bannock order Caldren around and there is never a question on anything?  I get the submissive thrown in there, but most submissives still have some backbone. Won't Bannock get bored with Caldren doing whatever he wants? I don't know. And speaking of Bannock, we got a glimpse of him in the last book, but really got no feel from him in this one.  Yes they said he was a docile dragon, but yet he's supposed to like virgins and destruction?  It didn't mesh well.

I understand this is a short story which was listed as twenty-eight pages. It had almost no plot. Literally Caldren goes to Faeted, Dyslander matches him with Bannock. He goes to see Bannock and they have lots of sex. Done. That's it! Then I guess its a HEA because that's all we get.  Maybe if it was fleshed out a little more, and we saw their life even a month later, we would buy into the HEA.  As it is, the ending was just too abrupt.

I have enjoyed the other books in Caitlin Ricci's Faeted series but unfortunately this missed the mark for me.  I hope the next pairing is a bit more explosive.

This review covers all 3 in the series.

They are short stories, not novellas. Each is cute & sweet more PWP than a real story.

Not really worth the five minutes it takes to get through each story. I've rated them each 2 stars simply because I found no proofing errors.

Caldren is a short but sweet story about a Brownie and a Dragon, and no, it's not a joke! 😉 Caldren is a Brownie, and has been on Faeted book's for six months now, but he is prepared to wait for his mate as long as is necessary. When Dyslander gives him Bannock's address, he is sure there must be a mistake. Surely no way would a Dragon want a Brownie.

This is a short story, as are all in the Faeted series, so you only get to see a snippet. Even so, you can see that Brannock and Caldren are a good match, and you hope that Caldren will relax into his role as Brannock's mate, rather than servant, sooner rather than later. This is very well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow. However, it is only a snippet, so don't expect a wealth of previous information or background. For a coffee break book, this is absolutely perfect. Recommended by me.

Faeted is a matchmaking agency for supernatural beings, and so far all of the characters in this series have been somewhat surprised, if not outright shocked, at the mates the agency has come up with for them. None more so than Caldren in this third story – as a friendly, peaceful brownie he can’t imagine living with Bannock who is a ferocious dragon. How is that even supposed to work? I couldn’t wait to find out!

According to Wikipedia, brownies are “…mythical household spirits from English and Scottish folklore and they are counterparts of the Scandinavian tomte, the Slavic domovoi, and the German Heinzelmännchen.” Caldren is the perfect incarnation of just such a person: he is very polite, worried about everyone’s welfare, and messes are his personal enemy. He thinks dragons are scary, but he also doesn’t want to insult the agency fae who found him his mate, so he pays Bannock a visit.

Bannock, at first glance, confirms every single prejudice Caldren has. He works in security (which made me laugh – mainly because it is so appropriate) and he is extremely dominant. As it turns out, he appreciates who and what Caldren is all the more because of it – and it doesn’t take them very long at all to find out that they really are a perfect fit.

If you like shy brownies and strong-willed dragon shifters and want to watch them figure out how they might work as a couple, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read with some very hot man-on-man action of the D/s kind, then you might like this short story.
