Emily Henderson is the preacher’s daughter.
It doesn’t matter that she no longer lives with her parents—or the questionable circumstances surrounding the sudden move when she was thirteen. To the townsfolk of Sunset, Texas, that’s just simply who she is.
But to Emmy, the lesson she learned all those years ago is one she’s never going to forget. If there’s anything she can be sure of, it’s that all men are ruled by lust, and they definitely cannot be trusted. And her best friend’s planned New Year’s Eve trip to Las Vegas is not going to change her mind about that either.
She’s even willing to put her money on it.

Aiden Campbell is a rock god.
As the dark and mysterious bassist for the newest rock sensation to hit the billboards, life is as good as he’d hoped it would ever be. The band’s headlining tour is a success, radio play is on the rise, and his twin sister has finally learned to manage her anxiety without him. By all reasoning, he should be feeling on top of the world. So why can’t he get past the aching feeling that something is missing?
As much as he knows the full rockstar lifestyle of alcohol, drugs, and women can’t take the pain of it away, he’s sure the band’s gig set for New Year’s Eve in Vegas will at least numb it for a little while. He’s even willing to put his money on it.

But fate, it seems, has other plans for them.

When unforeseen circumstances land them both in a locked room together just minutes to midnight, the last thing either of them expect, is to find the one person who holds the key to releasing the pain of their pasts. The only trouble is, once released, are either of them prepared to face what comes next?
As both their worlds—past, present, and future—set to collide, they both realize that hiding is no longer an option, and decisions need to be made. But will they allow fate to control them, or will they finally take the reins and fight for what they want?

This was a bit better than book 3 but it still missed the mark for me. We have an alcholic young rock star who meets a humble country girl who helps her grandma and has a tragic backstory.

There was so much potential for this to be an amazing story or recovery and healing and finding love through it all. But it really just left me frustrated and annoyed.

For one, the amount of times the 2 leads say "I don't Know" is infuriating. I started counting an stopped after 25. Like, most of their dialogue is "I don't know".

Secondly, what is with these huge monologues the main characters go on explaining philosophical views. I'd rather we see the characters come to that conclusion or realization without the love interest telling them an them being like "Oh, that makes sense."

Thirdly, nothing had high stakes. No, miscommunication. No drama. No bad actions. Everything was explained immediately after a character did something that was slightly sketchy.

Fourthly, Emmy's confrontation with her abuser was anticlimactic and unsatisfying. Same for when Aiden "confronts" the man too (if you can call it that.)

Fifthly, I know this isn't really a decent complaint but there were SO many fades to blacks when it came to Emmy and Aiden being physical. And I get it, but after the first 2 books being very descriptive and--well, hot-- I feel slightly robbed with all the off-page trysts with one of the HOT BANDMATES!!

I'm just so sad these books are going downhill. like the first 2 books were so incredible. The plot was great, the characters were cool and 3 dimensional. What happened, Maree?!

Please say book 5 is better... It's Josh's story. Give me the StarStruck love story I need. I'm begging.

After 3 books with Aiden as a side character, I was very excited to finally read his story. I didn’t love the life style he fell into but enjoyed watching him pull himself out of it while he and Emmy helped each other heal & essentially fell in love.

When love comes softly and gently. It was beautiful seeing the characters grow.

I Adore Maree Green, her Writing, her stories, her characters, EVERYTHING!!!!
The books in this series TRULY can be read each as a standalone. UNLIKE most series out there Maree Green keeps her stories COMPLETELY seperate from eachother so that they don't focus on one concept, idea, or theme. For example, the main characters aren't all alpha male billionaires, or they don't all focus around one event. Gah I'm not explaining this clearly enough. Let me try again...
In this series the only thing that the main characters have in common is that they grew up together. You get glimpses of them in each book but only enough to give you an idea of their personalities and allow you to fall in love with them (and trust me you will fall in love with ALL of them). But they are not involved with eachothers stories enough to lead into the theme of the next book.
The result is that you CAN NOT get tired of the series or the characters and you will ALWAYS want to read the next book.
So from undercover police work, to a marine fighting to get back, to a preachers daughter lost in suffocation and a man drowning in drugs and alcohol to forget the pain, Marre Green will keep you anxiously waiting for the next story.
