Imagine you’re one of a group of university researchers who, while trying to create technology for a security business, built a time machine instead. Would you be prepared if you transported back in time to 11th century Saxon England? Meet the Travellers, a group of modern-day elite soldiers, scientists, historians, and researchers, who use the Transporter (time machine) to go back in time. What will they discover? Will they be prepared for what’s to come and what will happen to history if they use modern technology to defeat the Vikings?

I have to be honest, it took a long time for me to figure out what was going on in this book. In alternating chapters, we get the research team and a mysterious man named Michael lost in the forest. Was Michael in the past or the present? What was his relationship to the research team? Honestly, it didn’t make sense to me until much later.

The action scenes were full of adrenaline and suspense. Well written and described, they were the catalyst to keeping the plot moving. The science fiction, while intriguing in theory, came across as unbelievable at times. I really had to suspend my belief in order to stay inside the story. The characters were lush, well-developed beings, each with his/her own voice. The time travel and the historical sub-plots were well-conceived, well-researched and were the highlight of the book.

If you like science fiction, time travel historical fiction with plenty of action and a killer ending, you’ll love this book.

Favorite Character/Quote: Tatae. She’s the most intriguing character and I felt an instant connection with her. Strong, beautiful, complex is only a few of her characteristics and yet, I find myself unable to describe why I love her so much. I guess her aura, her sense of right and wrong are what makes her unique.

Title - Traveller Inceptio
Author - Rob Shackleford
Genre - science/history fiction
Format - e-book
.
.
The main theme of this science fiction book is time travel. The story is about a machine that was invented by mistake. This machine takes the researchers 1000 years back in time to Saxon England. Travellers, a group of modern day elite soldiers, scientists and researchers who use this transporter to go back in time. Read the book to know more about this story which is full of adventures.

The cover of the book could have been better. Title is eye catchy. Actually Inceptio is a Latin word which means starting.
The plot of the story is interesting and engaging. It is a perfect blend of science, fiction, history, thrill and adventure. The author has very well maintained the balance between two parallel storylines.
The end of the story is spine chiller as the suspense is maintained till the end. At some places the author has unnecessarily dragged the story by giving too many details.
Language used is fine.
Characters are well developed by the author especially of Phil.
Hats off to the author for his research work and imagination. The flow of the book is fast paced.
Overall, an enjoyable read.

Although I love science fiction, I’m extremely picky when it comes to the genre. More than I am with other genres, if I’m honest. My feelings towards Traveller Inceptio reflect this: whilst I found this to be an interesting tale, it failed to tick the boxes that make me fall in love.

I think the biggest reason for this is the fact I’m an instant gratification kind of person when it comes to my science fiction reads. I like lots of action from the start, and this one was slow to truly get going. It was interesting to see the two different stories playing out, leaving me curious as to how they would come together, but I did find my interest waning when it took a while for things to truly start. In fact, there were times when I found myself putting the book aside when we were given exposition on aspects that seemed unimportant in the grand scheme of things. As I said, I’m an instant gratification kind of person with science fiction, so I’m sure many will be fine with the slower nature of this book.

Later in the book, when things were moving at a faster pace, I did become more interested. I never fell completely in love with the characters, but I was interested in how the story would play out. I can certainly see those who were invested from the start having a lot of fun with the way the story played out, but I was never quite as into it as I could have been.

Overall, I think this was another of those cases where I was the issue not the book. It was certainly an interesting tale, but it wasn’t what I look for in my science fiction reads.

Traveller–Inceptio by Rob Shackleford is a time-travel story set 1000 years in the past, through the machine that was invented by mistake. What follows next is an interesting tale about how our ever-so-reliable-science-and-technology can't bail us out of dangerous situations and how power-hungry people can go to any lengths in order to get their hands on any new invention that can trip the scales in their favour.

The story was good and pretty engaging. The events were interesting and some of them even capturing. The overall world-building was good and the pacing was even. I enjoyed the book on the whole but had a couple of issues both with the plot and the writing. The author went overboard with the exposition, as a result of which I found myself skimming over a lot of pages. The beginning of the book and the base of the story felt a bit weak as it seemed too far-fetched a concept to have actually invented a time-travel machine that travels only certain years and then has the ability to come back when summoned too. I mean the concept could have been a bit more believable if the machine had at least some faults and wouldn't have been this perfect. After all, it was a result of a mistake.

But after the first part was over, the story only got better. The research appeared to be impeccable and the story got more and more interesting, save for the exhausting bits of exposition. The plot started to feel realistic and I was able to connect with it once the first part was over.

Characterization, unfortunately, felt like another lingering problem as I had a hard time connecting with the characters. They were not badly created, but they weren't overly impressive nor relatable. I just liked them enough to have been able to read and finish the story (which seemed to be much longer than it should have.)Overall, I think the book needed a bit more tweaking and that a good editor would have been able to make this book much better. Still, it was an enjoyable read.

What will happen when you are trying to build a machine that will help you in Security Business, but instead you create a machine that will take you back in time?

‘Traveller Inceptio‘ by Rob Shackleford is a Science Fiction. This book revolves around the Time-Travel concept, which takes the researchers 1000 years back in time to Saxon England.

SUPER INTRIGUING, right?

The set-up of this book is somewhat similar to that of The Outlander. But besides the set-up and the concept of the time travel, the two books do not have a common ground.

It fascinated me beyond my expectations. The narration was the key parameter in reader engagement. I was deeply engrossed in the story throughout the book. And the world-building was done amazingly. Although, initially I was confused about the sudden shift in the timeline. Sometimes the story focused on the research team in the present time and in the very next chapter it got entangled with the mysterious man named Micheal Lost in a deep forest. But once the first part of the book is over, the story catches pace and gets highly engaging.

The first thing that connects the readers to the book is language. And in this case, the language is highly engaging.

Although the science component of the book was away from reality but the catalyst that proved to be moving the story was the narrative and some action scenes kept the adrenaline high.

About the characters, I was easily able to connect with them as they were witty and quite eccentric, though a bit stiff at times. The ending of the book elevated the novel as a memorable read. It was an unexpected thrill beyond words.

I highly recommend ‘Traveller Inceptio‘ to the readers, who love Science Fiction, Historical Fiction and time travel genres. I am definitely sure that you are going to love this book.

‘Traveller Inceptio’ by Rob Shackleford is a book that will take us 1000 years in the past. It revolves around a Transporter which is accidentally created and a man is sent back in the past in England. The condition in this period is very dangerous and without proper training or any idea it will be a very difficult task to survive. A highly efficient force is sent back to the period but will they be able to survive in this unfamiliar historic period and get over the various set of difficulties? The living conditions are different, the environment is different and the technology too is different will they be able cope up and adjust to this different setting? To know more read ‘Traveller Inceptio’.
The plot is well written and is a perfect blend of history, science fiction, action, adventure. We get to read three stories running together and the author has excellently connected them together. The journey to the past was quite adventurous and it was described aptly how they adjust to the situation and learn from the basic is worth reading.
The characters are well developed and each of them surely had their own viewpoints to offer in the book.
Language is simple and lucid and the narration is done nicely. The pace of the book is fast but it suits the overall plot. The world building is nicely done and it will surely intrigue the readers.
The book cover and the title of the book is apt to the plot.
Overall, it was a nice read and I would surely recommend it to all.

This book is a historical science fiction and I find the story line is very intresting and full of adventures with lots of facts around history and science.
Story starts with a super adventurous scene where Micheal was surrounded by a pack of wolves who's prey for blood ,as usual Michael's knives skills saves him and through the forest he landed in a monestry near village where lots of things he has to discovered and there are some villagers missing so why people disappeard it's also a mystery.
Simultaneously a other story is also running where Phil and Mel are doing some research which they have to kept secret from Helguard their investors.
Story plot is unique and interesting and there are lot of facts which keep you hooked but there are also some things which distract me through out, lots of characters and some things are not clearly describes so I took lot of time to complete this one. Blurb is good and giving a overall hint of story so if you like to read time travel science fiction so you could like it.

This is one of the amazing novel I had read in the recent past. When I finished reading this novel, I felt as if I have watched a Hollywood movie which never fails to impress a hardcore sci-fi fan. The novel runs about close to four hundred and fifty pages but you would never feel bored at any given point of time.

Phil, Yeti, Allen, Craig and Mel were into research. They get funded my Melguard whose owner was none other than Mel's father. They were under the supervision of Dr John Crowley while Dr Jackson was their Dean. They ended up inventing Transporter and the story begins from there.

What did I like the most?

The novel has two stories running in parallel. While the first one was mentioned in brief above, the other story was about Michael who kills a wolf and starts running towards a forest. He meets a monk named Oeric and his fortunes turns around drastically. He was addressed as Lord Michael.

Though I felt the story was bit stretched, all I could say is, "It was justified". The plot was real good. Though we have seen or read stories similar to his - on the screen and in the book, this was a unique one, altogether. The concept, though was an old one, the way the story was narrated makes it captivating till the end.

The combination of Sci-Fi with historical characters was deadly. If you are a lover of the above genres, there is no doubt that you wouldn't be liking it....

Traveller Inceptio by author Rob Shackleford is a amazing read. Blurb more or less gives away the plot.

Two stories are narrated in parallel the first one is the story of the past and second is how time travel transporter is accidentally/ unintentionally invented. So coming to the first story it narrates life of people during those times, how people accept/accomadate the protagonist Michael into their lives, how they survive etc. Second story is about Phil and his team working on high tech security project, know about each of them, problems they face, how they unintentionally invent etc.

Pros:
Though book is very detailed so makes it interesting

Cons:
Felt at places dragging and length

Language is not very difficult, author's imagination is great. Plot is entertaining and thrilling.

This story had a lot of attention grabbing elements, and it had a few things that threw me off quite a bit. The characters were realistic. The story had time travel and Saxon England. How does time travel affect you? Does it only affect the future? Why not the rest of the time line? The story and characters make a reader think, and those books are always good to read.

However, the paragraph development made it difficult for me to maintain my attention. I'm not normally bothered by such things, but it was quite consistent.

I still recommend the story to lovers of Sci-Fi and time travel. The story really does have some good material in it.

Book Title: Traveller Inceptio
Author: Rob Shackleford
Format: eBook

Book Title:
The title of the book ' Traveller Inceptio ' is unique and interesting.

Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is a close image of a knife with some engravings on it. There is no particular inference of the story looking at the image.

Plot:
The story begins with the main character Micheal traveling through a forest in a situation which is a thousand years ago from the present and in parallel a group of research students funded by the biggest MNC set their journey on R&D and work on towards creating something incredible and end up creating a time machine accidentally. These people then travel 1000 years back and then we already have Michael there. Following this the tale is all about how much ever the science-and-technology is developed, it can’t help us out of dangerous situations which are either or not due to nature and how power-hungry people can destroy everything.

The initial chapters have surprised me with a good and bad feeling, and as I was looking for the same excitement in the coming chapters, I found the story doing a roller coaster ride of characters, their details and too much explanation of some unwanted yet important situations. For instance, it's a known thing how does mating happen between a man and a woman. But in the book with this subject, I felt it's unnecessary to get into many details of the act. Likewise, the most annoying thing is dedicating a whole chapter about ' peeing '. Yes! You read it right. It was absolutely yucky.

Reader's disclaimer is a must for a good story but not up to the mark writing.

What I like:
1. The concept of time travel which runs through the story is interesting
2. Two parallel storylines are very well maintained
3. The suspense in the story is retained till the end of the story and its acts as a cliff hanger
4.The research did by the author is commendable
5. The essence of a new world is quite innovative

What I didn't like:
1. Inconsistent subplots in the present time story are found
2. Too many details in some incidents explained which are not required
3. If only editing was serious, the length of the book could have decreased.
4. Though there is suspense, too many details in the story at places diluted it.

Characters:
All the characters are plotted well. But it was hard getting connected to the characters. Though the creation is good, they were not impressive nor attractive. They just existed.

Narration:
The narration after certain no.of chapters felt interesting. Till the initial 50 chapters or so, the book was lagging and somewhat boring. Too many chapters made it an exhaustive narration.

Language & Grammar:
The language is fine with error-free grammar.

My Final Verdict:
Exhaustive yet a good read.

Book Title: 3/5
Book Cover:2/5
Plot: 3/5
Characters: 3/5
Narration: 3/5

Time Travel has always been an interesting concept in books. But an accidental time machine that only takes you 1000 years back is something interesting. The set-up of Traveller Inceptio in Saxon England reminded me a little of the book Outlander. But apart from the set-up and portion of time travel, the two books didn’t have much in common.
What’s the plot?
A group of university researchers accidentally build a time-machine. Sound unrealistic and absurd, but since it is fiction, let’s give it the benefit of doubt. What happens next is more relatable. Unable to keep it a secret, the existence of the time machine becomes public knowledge and trained soldiers, scientists and historians are sent 1000 years back.
What’s so special about this book?
I really liked the narration of the book with alternative chapters showing alternative point of views. It was hard to figure it out in the beginning which parts were from the past and which from present because one of the characters Michael was stuck in a forest and well, 1000 years before or now, forests exist.
The book is really fast-paced with lots of action scenes which is to be expected because, VIKINGS! The book was a mixture of science fiction and historical fiction but while the former was bit unrealistic, the latter was written to be quite believable.
What I enjoyed most:
The characters and their take on the past is something that really intrigued me and kept me glued to the book till the end. The characters were written to be three-dimensional and I enjoyed this book mainly because of the people involved in the story.
“Their little group had travelled far and been forged in adversity. In their current mood, having a second angel was of little consequence. They had learned that others could only be trusted after they had proven themselves.”
The historical references were also recognizable and one can see while reading this book that the author had done his research well.

What Made Me Read It I was sent a copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review. The author described it as "a gentle Sci-Fi that blends the genres of Historical Fiction and Action / Adventure"; it sounded promising and since I hadn't read any books set in the Saxon era and culture I decided to give it a try.

The Plot Phil Walker is a graduate engineering student working on his PhD and a chance of a good job. When he joins Mel, Allen and Craig on a doctoral research project, their goal is to develop a revolutionary security scanning system for their sponsor Heldguard Security. But when Phil's surfer buddy Yeti accidentally bumps into the prototype scanner, displacing wires and reattaching them in the wrong order, they end up with the discovery of a lifetime instead - a time travel machine that goes 1000 years back in time. Soon their discovery attracts the attention of international intelligence organizations, intent on taking control of the team's research.

Professor Adrian Taylor believes the newly discovered Transporter can be used to study the 11th century culture and society up close, a time of conflict and instability throughout the globe still mostly unknown to historians. The British, US and Australian governments fund Project Traveller, a joint initiative to send skilled researchers back in time to Saxon Aengland, and a Special Forces team is assembled in secluded Welbeck Abbey to undergo specialized training that will allow them to blend in and survive in the past.

Meanwhile, after a narrow escape from a pack of wild wolves, traveler Michael encounters a lone monk praying in the ancient forest. Believing Michael to have been sent by God in answer to his prayers, Brother Oeric offers shelter in his monastery and leads the traveler to the nearby village of Giolgrave. Michael is introduced to Abbott Aldfrig of the Benedictine Order and the village's leader, the thegn Godric, and soon is accepted by the small Saxon community as one of their own. When the Abbott asks Michael to help bring a valuable psalter from the city of Snotengaham, Michael leads a small party of monks and the thegn's eldest son Eadric through a land threatened by incursions from the violent Danes.

The Good "Traveller Inceptio" is the first book of an epic historical fiction trilogy with sci-fi/time travel and action/adventure elements. Set both in present days and in 11th century England, the novel follows 3 distinctive sets of characters: the Australian graduate students who unintentionally create a device to travel 1000 years back in time; the team of multinational Special Forces soldiers selected to study the Saxon culture, undergoing specialized training in England and New Zealand to blend in and survive in that era; and a lone traveler named Michael who is accepted into a small Saxon community, learning their ways and protecting the villagers from the Viking incursions. The alternating plot-lines are mostly independent but also somewhat interconnected: the graduates' fortuitous discovery leads to Project Traveller and the training the special forces go through is put to good use during the mission we follow into the past. The author manages to keep the true identity of the traveler Michael concealed for most of the plot, even throwing a couple of brilliant red herrings along the way to keep us guessing who he might really be.

The novel is highly descriptive with vivid details that show a profound knowledge of the different cultures depicted in the plot, mostly the (British) Saxon but also the (Australian) Aboriginals and the (New Zealand) Maori: from their customs and rituals to their language, social structure and religious beliefs in both the old pagan gods and the Christian teachings, what they ate and how they dressed (or, in one case, didn't). It's not an action-packed story, though there are some gripping action sequences at the end of the book, but the detailed account in no way slows down the flow of the narrative, quite the opposite, as we get drawn and immersed in the lives of all the characters.

"Traveller Inceptio" is mostly a character-driven novel, following the different characters in their respective sub-plots, their personal stories and journeys, their relationships with one another and the group/community they belong to, their emotions and motivations. The characters and 3-dimentional and complex, believable and relatable: the Australian graduates (Phil, Mel, Allen and Craig) working through the challenges of completing the doctoral project, dealing with the consequences of their accidental discovery and the steps they take to protect their research; the Special Forces team (Hunter, Osborne, McFee, McAlister, Poxon, Hurley, Morris, Leishman, Kitchener and Anderson) as they go through unorthodox training in ancient languages, traditional Saxon skills, hunting and combat techniques with swords and archaic weapons; the traveler Michael, his growing emotional attachment to the Giolgrave community and the conflict between the parameters of his initial mission and the need to protect the villagers; the Giolgrave community - the Benedictine monks providing spiritual guidance to the villagers, the thegn Godric burdened with the responsibility for the security of his community, his eldest son Eadric facing the challenges of adulthood, the healer Tatae protecting the ancient knowledge passed down through generations of medicine women, Yffi and his hunters with their bond to the ancient forest and deep respect for the old pagan ways... each and every character is captivating and goes through deep emotional growth throughout the plot.

The Not So Good Fair warning: there is a very disturbing rape scene. If you're particularly sensitive to the subject you might want to skip this chapter.

The battles between the Vikings and the Saxon are very realistic and extremely graphical, as are some of the encounters with the wild life. It's the reason the novel lost a star in the final rating, it was too violent and goreish for my taste. You will need a strong stomach to read the last couple of chapters.

Read the full review on: https://literaryportals.blogspot.com/...

Final Rating 4 of 5 stars. "Traveller Inceptio" is a vividly engaging epic historical fiction novel with science fiction and action/adventure elements, set both in modern days and 11th century Saxon era. Recommended for those who enjoy time travel stories, in particular those that don't deal with the Grandfather Paradox, and adventures set in ancient cultures.

Let me begin by saying that I love how the book is justified and the font is perfect. There is something about justified text that makes the book all-the-more appealing. One of the best things I liked is that the it didn't go crazy with fancy fonts and colors which distracts its readers from the story.

The story begins with the lead Micheal travelling through a forest in a set up which is a thousand years ago from now and parallelly about a group of research students coming together to work on a project afunded by a high-tech company. They set up an R&D and work on towards creating something incredible. The first few pages had me hooked instantly. I knew that the story would be somehow inter-connected and I waited to see the crossover happen where these two different worlds merge. I did not read the synopsis of the book for a really long time and when I did I thought that there was a giveaway which kind of eliminated the excitement of the unpredictable, or so I thought. But boy was I wrong! If you haven't read the synopsis yet, don't. Trust me, the excitement is surreal. Rob Shackleford has elucidated the anomaly of the story really well and the story line continues to improve at each step, making it hard to set the book down. While one story comprises of the Ph.D students being paranoid about their research work being compromised, the other describes how the men 1000 years ago lived. The struggles that people go through (both in ancient and modern age), new discoveries and big revelations - this book paints a crystal clear picture that helps its readers imagine to the minutest details. This book has truly refreshing content that had me hooked for several hours. The dynamics of the book in both ancient and modern set up is simply superb and the plots are crafted to perfection. Furthermore, this book is a realization of quid pro quo of information between different eras. The crisp and vivid difference is truly enigmatic. It truly celebrates intelligence and science even in its fictional form. This book has secured a special place in my shelf.

It is truly amazing how globalization has revealed some amazing potential. Imagine having the power to traverse in time and share information across the same and the vast corrections we could make because of it. This is a great book written by a truly skilled author. I would definitely suggest it to as many a people as possible and wish that Rob Shackleford writes more books such as this. He has put together segments that has the precise amount of ancient and modern touch to construct a story as good as this. Books like this can easily have a sense of derivative or inspiration taken from similar genre, but Rob has a unique style of writing (hard to point out what it is) that eludes it completely.

There is no over-the-top alpha male story telling in this novel which truly deserves a kudos because it is easy to get carried away with stories like this. He mixes complex emotions from a classical time to modern day Australia that is so relatable with various ups and lows in this book which is truly sensational and yet subtle. All primary and secondary characters have their well defined roles to play and he odes justice to all these roles without making them fall out of character at any point. There is no suspense in this book. Rob has simply laid down all his cards and you just follow the story not with an intention to know what is in store, but because you love how the story is so well written.

If someone created a time machine, how would that affect you? How would that affect our history or our future? Depending on how it worked, would you sign up to participate in the time travel if you could? It is not strange to hear that for some, they feel like they were born in the wrong generation. Something like this could be big, possibly even cataclysmic! Time travel isn’t anything new and neither are transporters, but the creation of this one in Traveller Inceptio is purely founded by accident and Shackleford brings creativity and unique attention to detail which readers will relish.

A group of researchers are working toward their deadline of a new and innovative product, but what they create is far from what they intended. A transporter sends one of the researchers back one-thousand years in the past. Once the public finds out about the incredible discovery, the media, historians, and the military flock to the site with interest. It is only too soon before the military is sending an undercover scout into Aengland, where the villagers are ever fearful of an oncoming war with the Vikings. Several months of feed is transmitted back to present day with footage and journals while the scouts immerse themselves in the villagers’ everyday life. Believed to be a gift from God, the villagers accept Hunter AKA Michael, and share their homes, their food, their religion, and even their love. Overtime, Hunter knows that he must go back to his time, but with his growing fondness of a certain female villager and the Vikings coming closer, he lets his emotions get the best of him. He can’t abandon them now. Leaving would definitely mean certain and immanent death for all of them, but staying could mean his life too. Being faced with difficult decisions, he has to pull off a miracle in order to save them and figure out what his destiny holds.

Shackleford has a long and entertaining first installment readers will ravage through like a whirlwind. The author has created an entertaining and thought-provoking story-line with originality, creativity, and well-developed characters. The pace leading up to the invention is a bit slow, but after the transporter has been built, the pages seem to fly by quickly. This may have been the author’s intention, but if not, the pace should not hinder the reader in any way. This story is also very well-written, with little to no grammatical or spellings errors. The detail in which Shackleford provides is superb and allows the reader to feel like they are traveling alongside Michael. For being such a lengthy read, this is an amazing and challenging feat. If you are a reader of science fiction, historical fiction, and time travel, you may enjoy this first installment.

A print copy of this book was provided to Turning Another Page by the author and in no way affects the honesty of this review. We provide a five-star rating to Traveller Inceptio by Rob Shackleford.

Traveller Inceptio: Traveller Book 1 by Rob Shackleford is a hard book to put into just one genre. It is both an adventure and a romance while also being science fiction and historical fiction. Overall an odd combination.

A group of friends working towards advanced college degrees decide to work on some research together. They are even able o secure funding from a major security company, Helguard. Their goal is to create new scanning equipment to be used by security in places such as airports. The team works extremely well together and soon they have a working prototype. However, something goes wrong with the machine and a mass of wires fuse together, causing a completely different result. When they turn the machine on and tell it to scan something, the item disappears instead.

After some research, it is discovered that the machine is sending items to the exact same location, just 1,000 years into the past. This discovery naturally gets the attention of governments around the world and the military who try to take over the project. Military men are trained in the ways of the Saxons and are sent back in time to become part of their society and provide reports and pictures of a time period that was originally poorly documented. There are many dangers that the travelers face for this project, but the main one is that the Saxons are currently at war with the Vikings.

What I liked best was the one member of the original team who was largely responsible for the creation of the transporter never claimed it. I am unsure if this is because he remains unaware of what he did, or out of fear because he was messing where he did not belong, either way, this is what stuck with me the most. There was a lot of technical speak, along with war and battle pans that were confusing and boring. The war or battle aspect of the book was very drawn out, though I have never been one to enjoy play-by-play fight scenes.

This is more of an adult book. The length and technical stuff would probably be a bit daunting for younger readers. It is also rather detailed in the more graphic fight scenes (gore) and rape, which might make some readers uncomfortable. I rate this book 2 out of 4. The more interesting parts of this book, such as when Michael is becoming part of the Saxon culture moves quickly and is enjoyable. The duller areas such as the fights and technical speak are dry and really bring this otherwise interesting book down.

Traveller - Inceptio by Rob Shackleford Review

A historical science fiction tale like no other, author Rob Shackleford brings to life a tale of ancient Viking invaders, Saxon villagers and
a time travel experiment that puts real lives in serious danger. What would the affect of time travel have not only on the past, but the future
as well? Here is a synopsis:

If you were sent 1000 years into the past, would you survive?

Traveller - Inceptio describes how the Transporter is accidentally invented and becomes public knowledge when it sends a subject 1000 years into the past.

A Special Forces team of Travellers is then selected and trained with the intent to send them to Saxon England to explore what could be a very dangerous period of history.

From the beaches of Australia to the forests of Saxon England, Traveller - Inceptio reveals how Travellers discover they need a lot more than technology to survive the trials of early Eleventh Century life.

A realistic look into the lives of our ancient ancestors from around the world, this incredible story takes an in-depth look into the scientific
study of time-travel and the ramifications our interference in the past can have. It also does a fantastic job of showing the hardships, struggles
and way ancient Saxons viewed the world and life, and the twist of ancient beliefs and the introduction of religion into the region.

The attention to detail and use of great historical context made this such an engaging read. Taking a twist on time-travel science fiction stories
and incorporating a detailed look into this time of conflict and bloodshed was thrilling to read, and put into context the struggles of the
21st century. The characters felt personal and did an excellent job of highlighting the way we would view that time period, as well as how they
would view us.

Overall this was a phenomenal read, full of twists and turns and a fresh approach to the time travel genre. Filled with great historical references
and characters you'll love instantly, this story reads like an HBO drama, and would translate perfectly onto the screen. If you haven't yet,
be sure to pick up your copy of Traveller - Inceptio by Rob Shackleford today!

BOOK DESCRIPTION:
A team of college students is assembled to work on a new sort of security system for airports and shipping companies. Their project goes haywire, though, when they accidentally create the Transporter, a time machine that goes back 1000 years.

It can only go back 1000 years wherever it is placed, but even this is a huge scientific development.

Australia, the UK, Canada, and America come together to send a group of Special Forces officers back to Saxon England hoping for the men to merge with the people and teach those in the present time more about them than they already know. Using twenty-first-century technology, they send daily reports back to the present.

But these officers quickly learn they need more than high tech gear to make it in the eleventh century.

MY REVIEW:
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Once you figure out what’s actually happening in this book, it becomes a really fun read. For the first 5% or so, I had a hard time following exactly what was happening, but I’m glad I stuck with it because this book has a lot of heart.

It flips back and forth between the perspectives of those in the present and the officer(s) they’ve sent back to the past. It is a little muddy at first what’s happening, and how these two perspectives are connected, but it eventually becomes sparkling clear.

I found this story to be extremely innovative and fun. Imagining a time machine that only goes back to a certain time period is different from most anything I’ve ever encountered before and adds a compelling perspective.

Also, the characters in this book are endearing and quite charming. I am not super knowledgeable about Saxon England, so it was fun to learn about those who lived then, and their social structure.

It was a tad confusing having a Michael and a Mike both with ‘H’ last names. I found myself having to stop and think about which character was which a few times. I think it would have read better if the names were a little more diverse.

All of that being said, this is a great read if you enjoy both historical fiction and sci-fi. It’s a lovely meld of the two genres.

In accidental time travel books you usually have to put up with a lot of antics, but this one is more about exploring two worlds throughout history - the ancient and the modern, contrasting their ways of life. The life of scientific research is bolstered by detailed scenes and precise narration, grounding us in a relatable scenario.

Add to this atmospheric descriptions of far-flung characters' travails, and I was more than a little intrigued.
The set up allows the reader to ponder the potential for traveling through time, and how it changes the perspective of the busy, often distracted modern consciousness.

While the storytelling is controlled and the authorial voice is subdued, it easily gets its point across and captures the majesty of its setting. Not only that, it possesses the intellectual depth I'm looking for in a piece of fiction. Primarily, it is a dramatic interweaving of ideas.

A requirement I have while reading time travel stories is that I must learn something about history along the way, or receive a poignant satire of history. The Saxon England encountered here taught me plenty. It managed to be entertaining at the same time.

In the beginning, we are presented with mysteries, and with a little patience will are rewarded with answers. It contains effective action and an engaging plot. The moment by moment experience offers a well-written alternative to a lot of similar books out there. Though I've seen the concept done before, I've never seen it done exactly this way. It is a book best jumped onto like a ride. A true reading experience.

I always find scientific aspects of a story to be of minor importance, except when they're done masterfully. The sciency moments here were not overwhelming or intrusive, but functional and lent a cinematic quality to the whole. Clearly, some research has gone into it, which is always a plus.
Characters with challenging decisions to make, and a small learning curve for the reader to adjust to in the shifts in narration at the start, all require active participation from the reader. All in all, Traveller Inceptio is still a very safe bet for your S-F fix.

Michael is living a life of solitude in a forest which he truly cherishes. He thinks that he is alone in this wild. One day he sees another man in a distance and confronts him to find out where he came from. The man, a monk, says that Michael is an angel sent by Gods to them. The monk takes Michael to his village Giolgrave.

Elsewhere a group of Australian professional researchers are working to come up with some path breaking tech, funded by Helguard, a world leader in security tech. Set out to make a security related tech, some issues led them to inventing a time travel technology which sends the subjects 1000 years back !!! They tests the tech with few things and when satisfied that it works fine, they time travel to a scenic beach.

Soon governments finds out about it and assembles a team of travellers with the help of other countries. This time travel mechanism offer them unprecedented opportunities to know more about past historical events and how people lived in those times. The first place marked by these governments for time travelling by few trained experts. What happens next is unforseen turn of events which led to many complications.

What happens to Michael after reaching the village and how the time traveller thing pans out, is the core of this story.

You have to patient while reading this book. For quite a while both the stories moves forward separately and just when you begin to wonder whether these are two different stories, things starts to fall in place.
Here the author must be praised for choosing such different approach to tell a tale by taking two totally different setups.

The language is quite simple and easily understandable. Barring few conversations and detailed scenes, this book is totally worth reading ; for those who love historical touch to a story, this can't be missed.

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book. Turned out to be a great first read of new year.

I've never been a fan of science fiction, and I thought that I would quickly put down this very large tome of time travel and the unexpected places and events that derive from it. But I loved Star Trek and all of its spinoffs, so I dug in.
It was well worth it. In the present, a ragtag group of surfers, hipsters, laid back pot smokers, as well as overly serious and nervous people get together to try to create a better way to scan suitcases and other praphernalia in 3D, to expedite check-in at airports. The one thing this group has in common is that they're all brilliant scientists, who also have deep imaginations and a willingness to take chances.
But in their first attempt to scan a suitcase, the experiment goes wrong.

Meanwhile 10,000 years earlier, a man is battling with a herd of wolves, led by what appear to be a very vicious female wolf. He's alone with only his rudimentary weapons; knife, spear, bow and arrow yet he manages to fend off the pack, meet a strange, dirty, somewhat disoriented monk, who brings him back to his monestary.

The descriptions, especially of the time of 10,000 years go, are explicit and one truly gets a feel not only for their lack of modern amenities, but their shared sense of responsibility between village and monastery, and as the plot progresses they integrate this strange traveler into their culture and look at him as almost a god.

Back in the present, we discover that the scientists' first experiement with xraying a three dimensional suitcase, the suitcase has actually disappeared. Add to that, the dawning discovery of these young scientists that they might be being spied on by the very company they're working for (Helguard), or even worse, a foreign enemy.

With all of these balls in the air, the author brings the story down to a soft, persuasive landing and perhaps a cautionary tale for all of us who use and abuse our environment as if its resources were unlimited.

I read the sample offered by Amazon, as I often do before deciding whether to read a book. In this case, it seemed promising, so I went ahead, having been offered a review copy by the author.
Unfortunately, although the premise sounds fascinating and the first couple of chapters engaged me, as I moved through the book, I felt bogged down by extraneous detail; the story seemed to be going nowhere. It’s presented as alternate chapters, contrasting a group of research students seeking a universal security device for use at airports with the life of a huntsman in Saxon England. I ploughed on through the first 10 chapters but that was as far as I wished to go.
There’s potential here, in the story and the writing, but so much of the narrative consists of detailed accounts of aspects that did little to engage me with the characters.
After the opening event with the huntsman, attacked by a pack of wolves, I was hoping for more to happen. But the prolonged tale of his association with a monastery and its silent monks and prayers, left me cold.
The group employed by the security company consists of a real mixture and there’s potential there, too. But here I was bogged down in detailed explanations of the design for the system they were devising, much of which I found of no interest.
So, after chapter 10, which is 11% of the ebook, I gave up. I didn’t do this lightly, as there is undoubtedly a good story trying to get out here. I just didn’t have the time to continue with a book that seemed around 40% padding. As a reader, I’m interested in characters, their relationships, and their responses to barriers placed across their route. But I was faced with long descriptive passages that seemed to take me nowhere.
I’ve no doubt this book will be enjoyed by some readers. But it’s not one for me.

Traveller Inceptio

By - Rob Shackleford
Format – Paperback/ Kindle Edition available too.

My Ratings – 4.8/5

✍🏻“Traveller Inceptio” is a combination of historical fiction and science fiction. It explores a very fascinating theme about tri-dimensional beings passing through time

📍The book features two different plots:

✍🏻First, accidently a group of young scientists ended up making a time travel machine instead of a national security system and travelled around 1000 years ago during the era of Saxon England.

✍🏻And the other story was about Michael, who leads a lonely life in a wood that he deeply cherishes. He believes he's in this wild, alone. One day, in a field, he sees another man and approaches him to figure out where he comes from. A priest, the man says Michael is an angel given to them by Gods and took him to the Village.

📍Go get a copy to see what happens to Michael after he enters the village and how time traveller matters broaden.

My Opinion -

📖 The story is so interesting and coupled with an exquisite style of writing.
📖 The characters , especially the lead, Phil, are so well established and it's worth noting the change in their viewpoints along the timeline.
📖 Language is simple and easy understandable, the creativity of the author is excellent. The storyline is fun and enjoyable..
📖 I enjoyed the book's narrative of alternate chapters presenting different perspectives.
📖 Although the book is very comprehensive, it does make it fascinating and have a lot in it to keep you hooked.
📖 Though it’s lengthy, but at any given point of time you will never feel bored..
📖 Looking forward to the next book from the set of Rob Shackleford's Traveller Inceptio.

Highly Recommended to everyone out there and specially those who loves to read Science Fictions.

Happy Reading 😊

Traveller Inceptio is very interesting book Rob Shackleford . A really amazing book to read. A very detailed adventure I found in this book. The book is a historical science fiction and full of adventures with lots of facts about history and science.
The book is a amazing to read . After a long time I found interesting book , when I finished reading this book at one point I started feeling that I have watched a fiction based movie. Not a single time I feel bored. Reading this kind of book takes you to that timeline. Tell me tell you what amaze me lot in this book is two stories running in parallel. I plot is very interesting and combined with a grace writing style.
Story starts with a adventurous scene where (as of we are watching any Hollywood movie.) Michael was surrounded by a wolves who’s prey for blood but he saved himself by using his knives skill and through the woods he landed in a village . There he discovered that some villagers are missing , why so people disappeared is a mystery. Side by side other story is also flawing with some research work. There are lots of interesting pages in a book which keep you hooked through out the reading. Overall it’s a nice book especially for science fiction lover.
With every passing page , I founded there is a lot of detail being put in the book which shows the amount of research done by the author. The language is quite simple and easily understandable. I would recommend all the book lovers to pick this up if you're into science fiction. You will surely love it. I am rating this 5 star for the work excellence of author.

Group of researchers were working on building a machine, but accidentally they build a transporter device. Transporter device was then meant to be kept a secret but suddenly it becomes known to all public.
Transporter was such a machine that it can send people 1000 years back in the past.
Isn't the blurb interesting ?
This made me pick up the book!
What happens next ? A team of Travellers is then formed and send to Saxon England to explore what could happen and explore more about history, past.
.
First, to read this book one needs to have patience as it's a lengthy book.
Frankly speaking, I didn't get the first few pages of the book. From the second phase, book picks up the pace and things began to get more clear.
Plot of the book is interesting and intriguing. Time travel concept is something which I love to read always and this one belongs to it. It's a combination of science fiction and time travel.
The way the author had portrayed all the plot is quite engaging. Scientific elements included keeps one stick to pages.
Narration part was all good that made reading interesting, characters portrayed were also good. Author had portrayed characters in very intriguing way.
Language used is simple and easy. The concept which the author had used is good and something new to read. Lengthy read, but a good one !

Think about a mashup of two of your favorite genre, science fiction and historical fiction in one single novel, how awesome is that??
Time travel is one of the well-explored topics when it comes to science fiction be it movies or books, and I have read quite a few books based on this. Therefore I was a bit unsure about picking this book up because the back of my mind I knew I will be constantly judging it. But I am glad that I picked this book up.
A group of young scientists accidentally ended up creating a time travel portal instead of a device for national security and went on to travel some 1000 years past during the Saxon England period! Talking anything more than that will be giving out spoilers, which will be so wrong towards the readers.
The plot is so fascinating and combined with an elegant writing style I totally excused the sheer size of the book. With every passing page, I was swept off my feet and traveled with the characters into two different timelines. Talking about the shifting timelines it oddly reminded me of The Vengence that I read last year.
The characters, especially the main lead, Phil, are so well developed and the shift of their perspectives along the timeline is worth mentioning.
Overall it was an amazing cozy winter read, the only thing I didn't like was the slow beginning and length of the book.

Traveler – Inceptio by Rob Shackleford is a riveting fictional novel with a touch of sub themes like history, sci-fi, time travel, action, and adventure. The base of the novel is built on time travel. While preparing a machine for security measures, some young people land up making a time travel machine accidentally, with some limitations.

By leveraging its power a set of people is made to travel to exactly 1000 years back in time to restore something untoward. They are sent to 11th century Saxon, England. They have to avert something and need to fight off the devil – probably with the Vikings.

Time travel is just one aspect of the novel, the real conflicts lie in adapting to a peculiar era of time and the people with whom the time travelers have nothing to share about. Just imagine some modern-day guys transported to 11th century and have to cope up with the customs and soldiers of that time. It was fun to get into their skins, as the novel chugs ahead a lot of drama and action unfolds.

The story sounds engaging and a different read. The way Rob builds alternating scenarios is worth praising, but at some time readers may find themselves groping for the route. The novel was fast-paced, with measured pace, well defining the events with time. So, for mature readers, this novel is a sheer pleasure.
