*** Note: I received a review copy of this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review. I’m glad I got a chance to read this book. ***
First book – Anna finds about her being a witch and that she is not orphan. Second book- Anna meets her father and know him more deeply and saves him. This book takes Anna and readers more closer to her deceased mother (Sereda). Anna learns a lot about her mother throughout this book. And also more about the magical world. This time Anna wrote about her journey, solving puzzles, and the magical being she met during the journey into her Diary which awesome.
Anna was amazing throughout the book. I loved to read her thoughts and she she is going to be my favorite teen character. I liked that at the end she learns from her mistake and try not repeat them. Lauraleigh – I loved to hear her part in this book. She made me wish to have such a friend in my life. New characters and magical being were introduced in this last book. They were all so fascinating that I don’t want this book last in the series, I want to read more and want author to create more of such characters. I loved Chudo so much that I want him for real. I liked Evelyne too I could relate few of my traits with this character. I could be that snappy sometimes that everyone around me think like Anna.
What I liked? Few things remained same that I liked in the first two book of the series like,- Illustrations, Anna’s words in her diary and magical objects. I liked the opening of the book, Anna’s thought in diary that gave the overview of what happened in Anna’s life till now, short summery of first two books. That was fun to read especially where she described her grandmother. Anna’s thoughts were every funnier in this book that I enjoyed reading.
Overall, this book and this series will always be a refreshing one for me and child inside me would love to read it again and again. I can only imagine the age group for whom this book is written, how much they will enjoy reading it. I loved this series so much that I want read more books written by this author.
Oh that was just so marvelous! I could barely stand to put it down. Again the use of mythology, legends and cultural beliefs was just amazing! I do hope there is more to this tale!
Book 3 of the "Diary of Anna" series is so exciting and questions answered. This was so good, I did not want to release it! I am in my early fifties. This may be for way younger people, but I am still a kid inside. This book is for everyone! What I loved most was the grand knowledge on life itself.
However, something extremely exciting for a girl from South Dakota, land of the Black Hills, really made me soft in my heart, as it means so much to me. A golden Cougar, a myth to the Siberians, was seen in upper Canada! Mr. Connor explained how hunters exterminated them from a certain area. South Dakota has hunting seasons on them now, because more people are moving into their territory, pushing them out onto the prairie. I have been a lifelong cougar/mt. lion lover my entire life. They are my favorite animals.
The book is chalk full of exciting, heart pumping action. Anna and Lauraleigh are teamed up with Evelyne, a woman witch with an attitude to go get Anna's father's heart back from the safe hideout and person in Northern Canada. They are attacked by a "Wendigo", who tries to turn Anna into something else. The three horsemen return in this book from book 2. And that is just a starter! This could be a stand alone book. Mr. Connor has a great way of telling what happened in the other books without just throwing it in. In any case, the adventure continues and gets better all of the time. I can't wait for book #4!
I've said it before and will say it again, "I'm a fan!" Young Anna Sophia and her best friend Lauraleigh go on a fascinating adventure where they have to find her father's heart and return it to him so that he can survive and do his job (and so that she doesn't have to do it, after all, she is only 13 years old.) On the way they meet up with some amazing characters some of whom are nice and others that are not but they manage to learn from them and this makes their lives not only easier but better. Vic Connor has really written a fabulous series, each book has gotten progressively better than the one before it. The stories this man can tell! Do yourself a favour and read this series. It is worthwhile. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest and unbiased review.
This book is the finale of the grand adventure that Anna the Girl Witch takes to discover her powers and save her father. I won't tell you what happens - I HATE spoilers, but I will say that it is an EPIC adventure, full of battles with monsters, learning about family and friendship, lots of fun and heartbreak, and of course lots of great pictures and diary entries! If you're enjoying the adventures of Anna and her friends, you won't want to miss this instalment. I only hope that the author is going to use his awesome imagination to continue writing Anna's adventures in future. NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
To anyone who loves opening a book and falling into another world this series is for you. I first fell in love with magic books of coarse with Harry potter. while this is a lot different it is the same in the way you will fall into a whole other world. what I mean is the book brings you there and that's what reading is all about right becoming someone els going somewhere else well if that's why u read and it is why I love to read then this series is for u no matter your age!
Some great and powerful messages in the story about trust. Also the struggle coping with the darkness within us. Believing that we can accomplish so much if we put our mind to it. Some really funny parts too!
A quote: “The same life flows through us all,” the cougar continued, his voice soothing and melodic. “ This life force binds us together. It’s not such a difficult concept to grasp. Some humans seem intent on not understanding it.”
Book 1 was awesome. Book 2 was even better. I didn't think it would be possible for the story to continue on in its excellence! BUT IT DID!!!!! Anna Sophia and LauraLeigh are on another epic adventure. New friends and scary enemies abound in this new journey. I am hopeful that we will see more from this series in the future! It is definitely so much fun to read.
I am honored to be gifted an ARC in return of an honest review. 5 stars doesn't even do this story justice.
This was a sweet fun trilogy that shows why Young Adult is so popular. I am not a young adult, but reading this brought back much of the feelings I had when I was (everything was life shattering!) Great characters and an elegant plot makes this a great read for the young, young at heart, and those of us who want to remember how to be both.
This is a good ending to the story making you want read more on her adventures. Very engaging. Good for middle school girls if they have enjoyed Harry Potter. Good books to read together and talk about how people react to good and bad feeling about other people along with how you react to situations in your life
This is the best book I've read in a long time. I love how each character Had their own personality and traits. I would love children to read it and get absorbed into the story and be able to keep reading on the edge of the seats¡!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!¡
The adventures of Anna Sophia, the girl witch, continue to expand her circle of friends and take her to different parts of the world. This time around she is off on a quest to recover her father's heart. He had given it to her mother and she had hidden it to keep it safe. Now that her mother is gone and her father is ill and weak from having his magical energy siphoned off, he needs his heart to regain his strength and resume his job shepherding the dead to the after-world. Anna and her friend Lauraleigh travel to Canada and head north into the territory of the Wendigo to search for the missing heart, using riddles that Anna's mother left behind as clues. They have help from Monsieur Nolan's half-sister, Evelyne, who happens to be familiar with Canada. And they meet other beings of power along the way, some helpful and some not.
The earlier books in the series tied a lot of Russian folklore into Anna's story. Baba Yaga, Vodyanoy, and Koschey all have a part in the tale of Anna's mother and Anna herself. This time, while those characters are still a part of her history (and some are even family), Anna and her companions will encounter the Wendigo, fly in La chasse-galerie, and hear about Inukitut legends. Besides learning more of the folklore from the land she is travelling, Anna must also practice her magic and learn to control her growing skills. One of the most difficult things for her to do is manage her temper. Isn't that a challenge that many of us can understand? Luckily, Anna remembers some good advice from her Uncle Misha about how each story has many different versions from the viewpoints of those involved, and each one is true, although it may not be all the truth. If she can just keep that in mind as she meets others who knew her mother and share their own stories with her, she may be able to complete her quest and learn more of her past.
These tales of Anna the Girl Witch are a coming of age story, with the added bonus of magic and magical creatures, a quest, and steadfast friendship. Readers who enjoy stories that mix magic and the modern world (I wouldn't say urban fantasy, since most of the action takes place in the wilderness), and who like protagonists that are trying to discover the sort of person they will be as they mature, should give the Diary books a try.
I received a copy of the book from the author for review purposes.
I've been reading this series out of order, so I know there were things mentioned that I didn't fully understand, but it is written in such a way that a reader is still able to enjoy the story even if they have missed something along the way.
While there is magic in this book, the author adds his own spin to how it works and what it is capable of doing. As far as the magic goes, there are without a doubt things that I missed by not reading the books in order. Part of that includes what Anna's grandmother was doing. I got the gist of it, but I will need to read the books in order to understand that.
All of the characters seemed to have backstories that intertwined at points and really helped explain some of their actions. There were not many side characters, so the reader is able to focus on the connections between everyone and see the characters develop as the book progresses.
