Powerful magic... Trina Lopez is a powerful witch with an unusual type of magic. Since childhood, it has controlled her more than she has controlled it. But Duncan doesn't always follow his rules. Despite his resolve to feel no emotion, Trina crushes all his boundaries, drawing him in with an undeniable passion and fire. However, the Council won't back down and someone very powerful is facilitating Armageddon. Can they learn to trust each other before it's too late?
I really liked the first book in this trilogy and had been looking forward to reading this one. It is interestingly twisty and you don’t always know exactly what is coming next which is one thing I really enjoyed about this book. I rather liked her take on vampire powers and how hers can evolve to have certain powers (like mesmerizing, shifting, and splitting for example.) The lore she came up with for her vampire, demons, witches, and well all of the paranormal stuff was pretty intriguing and definitely didn’t read like a lot of pnr already out there. Crescent’s take on the Lilith myth was pretty cool and I thought it to be rather inventive, especially that big fight in the book. The twist to Trina’s powers and how they worked, or didn’t, and where was a nice touch of uniqueness to the whole story. Duncan’s back story was definitely not what you would’ve expected to learn about a big, tough guy like that. I was thoroughly intrigued by the demon world and look forward to seeing how things go in there now that the gates are open … oh and once that pesky trouble with the Rapture is taken care of. I’m curious to see how it is all wrapped up in the third book and to see how (or if it is even possible) for the BG from books 1 and 2 to be redeemed too.
The Shadow is an adventure of magical and frightening events and characters. Duncan is my favorite. Trina is an interesting woman who has lived her life in fear while Duncan has spent most of his in pain from the loss of his family. I love the idea of who Trina is to Duncan and the impact the past has on the future. The Shadow is an entertaining paranormal story. Vampire Duncan Vincent , one of the last Guardians on Earth, has been tasked by the Council to assassinate Trina Lopez , a very powerful witch with unusual powers . Vincent is good at killing threats to Daemon kind ........... but in this instance his instincts are telling him that killing Trina would be wrong . The Council however won't back down on their order to kill Trina and someone has triggered Armageddon - the Rapture is already underway . Trina has returned home to see her best friend Lileth - something is wrong with her magic , she is disappearing , literally ....... people do not see her unless she draws attention to herself and the situation is getting worse . Vincent and Trina must work together to bring Trina's full powers into effect , whilst trying to stop the apocalypse ...... all the time fighting their growing passionate attraction .
This book is enjoyable - but the story line is very complex and intricate - not one for a light read. There is room for a follow-on book as the ending leaves many unanswered questions . I would certainly be interested in reading more in this 'universe'.
I was given an Arc of this book by the Publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review .
Wow this was a little different then what i anticipated. I enjoyed the story and the characters, there are a few loosely tied ends, but in all great sexy PNR.
The Shadow is the second book in The Original's Trilogy, and although I haven't read book 1, this in no way impaired my enjoyment of this book. Trina is a witch who has always had trouble with her powers, and now she is literally disappearing. There is a quick synopsis given as part of the story as to what happened in book 1, and the consequences to Trina because of that. Duncan is sent to her by the Vampire Council to kill or kidnap her, depending on what happens to Lilith. Instead, Duncan decides to go with his instincts and tries to help Trina in every way he can, even before he realises she is his mate. These two both have things in their past that make them act the way they do, so it's all part of the story as to how they work past that, and save the world from Armageddon.
This is an intricate paranormal read, with witches, daemons, Watchers, and even minions! And, no, they're not yellow-wearing denim dungarees! Instead, you get an intriguing story where not everything is as black and white as you would assume. The story concludes nicely in this book, whilst providing a satisfactory preview into the next. It is very well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow.
Although I haven't read book one, I would actually recommend it before reading this one, simply because I feel that you would get a greater appreciation for the characters and their world. Still, saying that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and definitely recommend it.
