Emily Hayes tucked Christmas Town in her past and never intended to return. But her brother's New Year’s Day wedding has brought Emily home. Her plans are one week of rest from her hectic life as an ER nurse in some of the nation’s busiest cities. One week of cursory family time with her brother and his soon-to-be extended family. One week to avoid any walks down memory lane. She’d survived her childhood, surely seven days in Christmas Town wouldn’t touch her heart. But Emily never prepared for the power of her five year old nephew or the impact of former Navy Seal, Zach Evans. Emily never prepped herself for her heart wanting to step out of lock down and open up, not to Christmas Town and certainly not to a man she’d only just met. And staying in Christmas Town was never part of the plan. It’s a countdown to her departure versus a countdown to love. Now Zach needs to convince Emily to listen to her heart before the clock runs out.
I enjoyed this book. It was about the third exseal Zach working at the resort. He met Emily when she came to Christmas Town for her brother, Chris' wedding to Hope. Emily had a problem w commitment and staying in the same city for long enough to become attached to anybody. Her nephew Joel was spending time w Emily while Hope was getting ready for her wedding. Zack. Zach was supposed to be getting lights and heat on in her cabin. Zach taught Joel about the rabbits and feeding them. That's when Zack and Emily started becoming friends. They got closer as time went on. This is their story. The hard part was when Emily kept wanting to run away from Christmas Town. She didn't want to become attached to anyone except Joel, her nephew.
I expect insta-love in a short story because there's no time to develop a longer romance. However Emily has psychological issues from childhood and been estranged from her family for 10 years; choosing to run from her issues then seeking therapy and dealing with things. So thinking that in less than a week, she gets over it all because of a 5 minute conversation with her mother and being around Zach is beyond ridiculous. I didn't like Emily, her way of coping, and the terrible way she treated her family & friends. This was not the best trilogy in the overall series.
