Christina Ross began writing on nights and weekends while working as an intern for an international, iconic fashion magazine. After eight years, she left that position as an editor. Many of Christina's narratives reflect her background as an insider in the world of fashion.
Now, with a successful fashion career behind her, Christina divides her time between her apartment on Park Avenue in Manhattan and her new home along the coast of Maine. Christina loves spending quality time with her girlfriends in both locations. A lifelong animal-lover, Christina's favorite charity is the ASPCA, to which she encourages all her readers to contribute.
I seriously love Mrs. Blackwell. So far I’m enjoying Lisa and Tank. I’m curious what is motivating Marco’s desire to ruin her career. The ex-boyfriend was unexpected and I don’t like that Tank is gone for two weeks. On to book 2.
BLURB: Chasing your dreams is dangerous. Fighting for them can end your life.
Lisa Ward’s childhood dream was to become a best-selling novelist. But when luck finally strikes after years of trying to make it in the publishing industry, her entire world is tossed into turmoil when it’s revealed that somebody wants her dead.
As the pressures mount and as the threats escalate, Lisa’s boyfriend—a former SEAL—quickly rises up to protect her. But is even he enough to help her survive this? After all, the person who wants her dead is as bright as he is cunning. And he’s not above killing the love of Lisa’s life should he get in the way.
Since childhood, Lisa Ward knew the power of a dream. What she didn’t know is that dreams often can turn into nightmares.
FREEBIES are often good for MORE than one day, I have gathered all my FREEBIES on a special shelf: Kindle-freebies (currently over 400 books) https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
I'm confused by this book. I just ready the entire Annihilate series in 2 days and just started the unleash me book. There are entire scenes between Lisa and Tank that are word for word copied from scenes with Jennifer and Alex. I mean WORD FOR WORD! How is this even a new book? I had to double check that I hadn't accidentally opened the wrong book. The entire breakfast scene in tanks kitchen is copied. He said EXACTLY what Alex says in their breakfast scene. How he was taught to cook by his grandmother, Alex was taught by the family cook, but they literally said the same thing... "Not like that, Mitch-Like this. Pay attentions. You're making too much of it. Why do you harm the food like that? You should love. Caress it. It's not that difficult. Treat it like a women. One day, you'll understand what I mean. Yes that's right. Just like that." Lisa's response is the exact same as Jennifer's as well, word for word. I'm only 30% into this book and I'm wondering how much will be copied from her previous books. What a disappointment and I also don't understand how no one else has noticed it.
I read Christina Ross' Annihilate Me first and thought that maybe she would redeem herself with this second series, about the romance between the other main character's best friend and head of security, respectively. I figured there was less copycat material for other widely popular novels in the follow up.
Instead, we again get more of the same poor writing with way too much emphasis on fashion and silly shopping excursions, peppered with unrealistic dialogue.
I will say that there was plenty of accurate and sensical writing about the publishing business, and how one polishes, tightens, and edits a book for publication, which lead me to wonder why none of it was employed with this novel in real life.
What truly bothers me is whether or not Miss Ross has actually had SEX. Her scenes are all the same, involve oral sex given by the male and then allusions to penetration with huge male parts, but her attempts at wilder sex acts (like spanking) are all silly and about as far from sexy as one can get. They talk too much and what's said is incredibly corny and dumb, and not in a "I'm so in the moment I'm saying corny things" sort of way but in a "I've never had sex but I imagine this is how it would go down" sort of way. It was all pretty immature and awkward.
Woe is me, I read another 1-3 Omnibus. I think, like Gena Showalter, I'm done trying with this author.
I was asked to write an honest ARC review..... The beginning of Lisa and Tank's relationship is hot and steamy. Lisa as a new hot off-the-presses writer is a force to be reckoned with as she goes toe to toe with her editor, Mr. Boss. It is definitely going to be a knock-out drag-out fight between the 2 of them and I can’t wait but I don’t think Mr. Boss is ready for her!! Ok as seriously with the meth head , homeless first boyfriend….OMG the workings of Christina’s minds…She will keep me captivated for years!! I’m waiting with batted breath for the rest of this series.
Disappointing. I'm not sure why this trend has popped up, but there is very little that is more annoying than an author breaking their book into pieces to sell more books. This isn't a cliffhanger; it's a hatchet job.
The writing wasn't bad, but not amazing either. The sex was supposed to be wild and hot, but there is too little description to reach that level. I'm most interested in the character's book, and I can't get details for that either.
Honestly, the interest of where this book might go is what got it two stars instead of one. But I won't purchase the next micro-book for $4, or any price really. These aren't books, they're a single book.
The article was good in itself but I feel 100% cheated. I wanted to read a book not a cover jacket or a magazine article. I will never be taken in by this kind of crap again. This is nothing but cheap teaser tactics to steal money from unsuspecting book readers. I will never by another rice by CHRISTINA ROSS again. You made a fool of me once but you won't do I twice.
I really got sucked into the Annihilate series. They actually aren't very well written - even typos and poor grammar in the writing, but the characters are great and some of it is just so ridiculous it's like watching a train wreck.
To begin, I received the book as an ARC for an honest review.
I enjoyed the beginning of this journey into Lisa and Tank's relationship. I was worried that their relationship would either be extremely less interesting than Alex and Jennifer's relationship, or worse- a sad carbon copy. I also thought I'd have to work at not comparing Lisa and Tank to Jennifer and Alex. However, Lisa and Tank did not disappoint. Their story is compelling, with its own dosages of suspense, tension, romance, and even the hint of danger- all under the veil of new love.
It was especially nice to learn more about Tank. I was surprised to see how passionate, sensitive, kinky, and forthright he was. I can't wait to learn more about his past, and the story behind his well-guarded heart. I appreciated the author's effort to further develop his character without making him appear to be a whole new and unfamiliar person. I felt like I was getting to know Tank better, which is a complement to the author's development of his character over the course of this series.
On the other hand, I found myself often annoyed with Lisa as more of her character was revealed. Lisa's inner monologue was often repetitive, and not in a way that moved the story forward, or revealed more about her character development- unless the point was to characterize her as an anxious and somewhat naive person. If so, then that was accomplished, but at the risk of also making her slightly annoying. Maybe I just don't know her well enough yet, but at times her dialogue with others seemed a bit contrived and immature in comparison to the other characters.
As I have found with most e-books, there are a few grammatical and punctuation errors, as well as occasions of awkward wording. While these instances sometimes disrupt fluidity and readability, they are few and far between, and did not diminish my interest in the characters or ruin my experience of the story. I'm sure I'll reread the steamy love scenes, and the birthday party over and over again.
This is really like 2.5 stars for me, but I rounded up.
This is vol 1 of 3 and soooo disappointing.
Lisa's voice is really strange in this. In AM, J's was very clear. We knew who she was and what she wanted... now I'm not so sure the author knows who L is.
Lisa is introduced to the world of professional publishing in this series. She and Tank are together, have said the I love you's and now have to be real people. Lisa's insecure, but not confident enough in her relationship with Tank to discuss her insecurities. She's saddled with an a-hole editor with a possible agenda and who wants to completely re-write the book as is in the terms of her contract and she's okay with this? And his name is Marco Boss. People don't like him and he's managed to piss off Blackwell and that's never good; plus he's insulting of Lisa...and does he NOT know who her best friend is and who she's engaged to? It doesn't make sense.
Then we're in a weird coincidence (but nothing is a coincidence) Lisa's first exboyfriend sees her in Times Square and tries to extort her so he can continue his meth habit. Say what?
Besides all of these preposterous details, there's the small issue of using the exact same dialogue between Blackwell and Lisa and Bernie as was used in the AM series between Blackwell and Jennifer. Sloppy.
This needed an editor... ironic, given that's the issue with Lisa, hmm?
I was given this book as an ARC and was asked to give a honest review.
Before I even started reading this book, I was pretty certain I would love it because I loved everything else she's written AND this book is a spin-off from the Annihilate Me series. That series is definitely in my top 10 list!
This story is about Lisa and Tank(Mitch) and the beginnings of Lisa's career as a famous author. Her books will now be published under Wenn Publishing, but she has to deal with one arrogant asshole for an editor. However, there is something about him that makes me not want to hate him just quite yet... Blackwell is as always such a feisty character.. I love that I never know what she is going to say or come up with!! But it's usually quite hilarious. The ending will completely surprise you.. Even if you think you know 50% in, I doubt you will figure this one out. I can't wait till the next one comes out.. (Hint, hint Christina.. please say soon.) The only thing I didn't like is that it seemed to be finished too quick, but that just means I will be preordering the next one as soon as it comes out.
I was lucky enough to get the ARC of Unleash me from the author in exchange for an honest review . Unleash me is the beginning of Lisa and Tank's story , and their romance has gotten very , very steamy , Lisa has sign a 3 years, $5 million dollars contract with Wenn Publishing . She is torn not knowing how Tank will take her new millionaire and upcoming fame status , their new relationship will be tested , add to the mix a crazy Ex , a very , very hot and alpha male new Editor name Mr. boss ... Oh yeah , the last name says it all , and from their first meeting they go toe to toe , who will win this battle of wills ? Sadly Tank is away for two entire weeks in a business trip with Jennifer and Alex leaving Lisa behind .. But no worries she has our beloved Barbara Bkackwell to help her . Unleash me is full of steamy love making , witty humor and suspense , you will be torn between Bad boy Mr. Boss or good boy Tank ... Sigh ... I enjoyed it from beginning to end and can't wait for the next one .
Received an ARC for an honest review: (no spoilers) HoLy CoW! I loved this book! I had to slow my pace down so that it didn't end too soon, but the good news... there is a book to follow! The female characters are smart and intelligent women. Totally refreshing! They can stand up for themselves, are fierce, independent, but love their guys with all their hearts. Heck, I love Alex and Tank! This is Lisa and Tank's story with the right amount of Barbara Blackwell's wisdom and guidance! Lisa is not a woman you are going to push around without a fight. She may be little, but she is not someone to be taken lightly! She is witty and quick thinking. Zombies are her thing! Warning: Don't touch her book! Christina Ross' writing style has made her one of my favorite authors. Brilliant character development, smooth flowing story lines and lots of humor have made me a fan and keep me reading!
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. When I first started this book I was a bit sad, I miss Alex and Jennifer's story, although Christina did have me very curious about Tank and Lisa, I honestly wasn't sure I'd enjoy this book nearly half as much as I enjoyed the entire Annihilate Me series. I was wrong. DEAD WRONG!!! This book was wonderful and I can not wait to find out what happens in the next book. Everyone has just got to Blackwell, and while I missed more Jennifer and Alex story, I loved how Blackwell was very much a part of this book. The writing is great and the cliffhanger had my heart beating almost out of my chest. I highly recommend this book, I think you will fall in love with Christina's writing just as much as I have.
Liked what I read, but do NOT liked this marketing technique.....therefore
I will not be buying the rest of the book. I started looking at reviews when, to my dismay, I had purchased several partial books. If you are going to sell a book, be it in print or e-book, I feel that one price should cover the whole book. I have no problem paying six, seven or eight dollars for a book that the cover and synopsis intrigue my mind. But I do NOT care for the practice of selling part of a book. This is a new pet-peeve of mine but I have seen enough reviews that I don't think I'm the only person who feels this way. SQ
I loved this book couldn't put it down. Lisa has a big interview with Wenn company about her book and is about to sign a huge contract with them. The editor who chose her book to publish turns out to be a big jerk. When they first meet he is rude and insulting toward her and wants to change her entired book in a short amount of time. Tank, Jennifer and Alex have to go out of town for two weeks so Lisa will be alone. When Lisa decides to see her big billboard announcing her new book in time square she sees someone from her past that wants to hurt her reputation by exposing something from her past.
Read all the series this author has written and enjoyed the books. The writing is far from perfect but the story line and characters are compelling. However, this book and the first book from her other series share almost identical scenes. In one case, literally copied word from word with only character names and locations changed. Others, with a little more tweaking, but enough to make me want to put the book down and not bother to read on. To say this annoyed me would be a massive understatement. I actually think it is breathtakingly lazy from an author who didn't need to do this. A massive disappointment. I don't normally give bad reviews, but this was too big to overlook.
I received Unleash me as an ARC and it will keep you on your toes. it has a great story line into Lisa and hanks progressing romance and leaves you woondering what the second book is going to bring; with the pretentious and arrogant boss to the crazy ex-boyfriend. where will Lisa's new book stand will it be completely redone or is there maybe a movie in the making..... Definitely hands down a great read I didn't want to put it down, a definite page turner. can't wait for book 2 it can't get here fast enough.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Unleash Me in exchange for an honest review. Honestly... I have no idea where to start... Unleash Me, Volume 1 is a very, hot, sexy read! Author Christina Ross grabs her reads from the very beginning and keeps them on the edge of their seat constantly guessing what is going to happen next. The relationship between Lisa and Tank is positively sizzling. I am excited to see how their relationship develops throughout this series. I highly recommend this book. It is a "must read".
The ending? Really! Christina could have wrote so much more. It doesn't make me want to read more of it. Worst cliffhanger ever.
And then reading comments about how the author writes the same thing but with different characters. Not cool.
THEORY / Mini spoiler?
I'll just imagine that she ends up having sex with her editor since the boyfriend isn't around. Something also needs to be done about her ex-stalking bf. I doubt she'll ever pay him off. Maybe releasing the nudes will actually help her climb the ladder of success.
I wanted to like this book...I found myself returning to the Annahilate Me books to compare the word for word repeated scenes (literally only changing the names of the main characters).
I did like the scenes that were original and really want to like the hero and heroine. I cannot decide if I will read the final book, only because I am concerned it may just be a "rehash" of already written scenes.
I was lucky enough to get the ARC of Unleash me from the author in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed Tank and Lisa romance and love for each other. The love scenes were hot yet sweet and loving. The character at the end added a great twist. Like the cliff hanger ending. Can't wait for other books in this series.
I too noted the copy and paste that others have mentioned. It was frustrating! Not quite the Lisa that was created in the other novels- I expected more sass and less insecurity. Her wit at the start of the party scene was good. I hope there is more of that in book 2 with the twist of the stalker ex there is potential.
I read the first 5 chapters - just long descriptions that sounded like summaries instead of real-time action. Even the "love-making" was boringly generalized. I decided to hang in a little longer and speed-read two more chapters before deciding not to waste any more time. If a book doesn't get interesting at 43%, it's not going to get interesting.
This book had barely begun when it was suddenly over. But if you want the next part of the story, you can go to the store and buy it. It didn't even stop in a logical place. She gets in the cab as he's threatening her and that's it? Well, I really don't need to know the rest of the story that badly.
