Paradise Valley #2

Winds of Paradise

Rate this book
Dusty Lewis has a hard heart. Years of loose living and of following the open trail have left him lonely and empty inside. All he has left, all he loves, is the homesteading life and the band of fellow ranch hands who he travelled with from Fort Worth Texas, to Montana Territory, to set up a new life.
Paradise Ranch is his home now: he’s come to terms with not having a family of his own. That is until he meets Jane Wilder. She’s running from a troubled past as well, but that past is about to catch up with her.
When the two of them are forced to work together on the run down schoolhouse where Jane is the schoolmistress, she does everything she can to keep her secret safe while he fights his growing attraction to her.
A tragedy throws them together again, and they must each choose whether to follow the path of fear or love, honesty or lies. Can their love overcome the sins of the parents, or will Jane and Dusty miss their chance at happiness?

I'm going to refrain from reviewing this at the moment as the version I read was a beta version and based on other reviews and the book description there appears to have been some significant changes that make me think that my review might not end up accurate.

THE SINS OF THE PARENTS

I enjoyed book two of Paradise Valley series, and it will read as a standalone. The story has a young woman who is courageous, has determinations, and a caring heart. She is hiding a painful secret, one that has haunted her, followed her, and nearly destroyed her life. In spite of how she has been treated or mistreated, she has held her head high and tried to move forward in her life. There is a great cast of characters, along with mystery and suspense to keep the pages turning.

Jane Wilder left Boston, Massachusetts and moved to Missoula, Montana to be a school teacher, sent away by her Aunt, trying to help her escape the shame of her disgraced parents, and have a chance for a new life. For four years, she has been the schoolteacher, but it has come with trials when the school superintendent finds out about her parentage and past and makes it know to the townspeople. Now, she finds she will be without a job for the next school term. Correspondence with a cousin who lives in Paradise Valley, near Bozeman, informs her of an opening for a teacher, and she will be offered the job, and a chance to be close to one of her few living relatives.

Dusty Lewis was from Georgia, and after the death of his parents sold the farm and moved to Fort Worth, Texas. He got involved with some rowdier crowds before signing on with Thomas to move a large herd of cattle to Montana. He has stayed on with Thomas and his wife, Genevieve, working at their ranch. He wishes he could find a good woman to love and have a future. Thomas allows Dusty to pick a location on the ranch and build himself a home. Read book one, Of Peaks and Prairies (Paradise Valley Book 1)

The plot will have two cousins reuniting, and in the process, Jane will meet Dusty who works for Thomas. There is an instant attraction, and over time a courtship will ensue. For Dusty, the trip from Paradise Valley into Bozeman is half a day's ride each way, but he makes it as often as he can on Saturdays to see Jane. One such trip may actually saves Jane’s life when the school house was on fire, and Dusty helps pull her to safety.

Dusty and Jane have a sweet courtship, but it is not without self-doubt and indecision. Dusty is concerned that a more refined lady from back East would never develop feelings for a ranch hand. Jane is harboring a family secret that has already reeked havoc on her life in Missoula, and fears that if Dusty or the people of Bozeman find out the truth, she will be shunned again. Two people will have to learn to trust their feelings, secrets, and hopes for their future before they can move on. For a marriage to have a strong foundation, there can be no secrets, past, present or future. True love will not hold an innocent child hostage, but instead, will set her free with a future of happiness.

I was so glad to see this was Dusty's story and really wanted to get to know him since he played a good part in the first book. Being a cowboy moving for years he was glad to settle at Paradise Ranch and felt he could build a house and settle down. He really was lonely, but he knew he would probably just live his life out on his own.
Jane Wilder is a teacher and ends up getting run out of the town she is in due to everyone finding out about her past. She learns that Genevieve, a cousin, lives in Montana and she helps her find a job nearby.
When Jane meets Dusty, well, let's just say they get a little off on the wrong foot but soon they are thrown together.
Another heartwarming story by this wonderful author and perfect narration by Cody Roberts brings this story to a sighworthy conclusion. Now on to book 3!!

Parents’ choices can be a burden for a child!

The saying goes that a child’s actions reflect on the parents however in this story it is the opposite – the parent’s actions reflected on the child. Jane Wilder was left with a mess due to her parent’s wrong doings that haunted her for years. Jane has to face cruelty from society once they find out about her parent’s and what “bad” people they were. Unfortunately, Jane lets this affect her as she tries to keep a closed heart thinking it would keep her from getting hurt. In reality, this has an opposite effect as it tends to hurt her even more.

Dusty, a ranch hand at Jane’s cousin’s ranch, is determined to break down the walls that Jane has built up and claim her as his. Little by little, day by day, Dusty puts on his charm and seeks to win Jane over however he has his own self-doubt and doesn’t know if someone of Jane’s stature would be happy and love him.

Vivi Holt spins a remarkable tale in such a way that it will keep you entertained from beginning to end. She does a great job of bringing the couple together while handling their doubts and fears to draw them even closer together as a couple. V. Holt brings the story to life with love and affection that will keep you reading and not want to put the book down.

Vivi Holt does it again with the second book in the Paradise Valley series. It was just what I have come to expect from this talented author. I recommend Winds of Paradise to anyone that likes to read sweet romance with a happily-ever-after ending.

I purchased a copy of Paradise Valley Series book 2:Winds of Paradise by ViVi Holt and this review was given freely.
Paradise Ranch hand Dusty finds his match in the Boston school mistress and cousin to Genevieve, Jane. Vivi Hilt continues her pattern of women overcoming adversity with Jane moving to Montana to escape the stigma attached to having felons as parents. This novel has mostly a newsy plot as a good portion is filled with letters between Genevieve and Jane but it also contains wonderful updates on all ranch dwellers, and the sweet romance between Dusty and Jane.

Although Dusty loves working and living on Paradise Ranch, he longs for a home and family of his own. Maybe what he needs is a mail order bride. Then Jane Wilder, the new school teacher, comes to town. While working together they feel an unexpected attraction to each other. He doesn't think someone as educated as Jane would want someone like him and she thinks he won't want her after he finds out her secret. What will they do? As always, Vivi Holt tells a compelling story that keeps you enthralled to the very last pag

Sweet romance

Great story. Both Jane and Dusty had heartache in their past. Their courting was sweet but not without problems. I hope we'll see more of them in the next book in the series

Two very independent people, one a ranch hand and the other a teacher, don't seem to have much in common, but still they are attracted to each other. Both of them have secrets that they are not proud of too. Can they overcome their doubts and fears to become interdependent? Time will tell.

This is a good second book in the series.

The old and new characters were woven together in the perfect way. They were easy to get to like and want it to end just like it did

Great western story telling. Strong men and women that I think must have settled the western frontier. Highly recommended for cowboy and cowgirl loving readers.

What a wonderful Christian romance that really pulls the reader in with a Wild West adventure. The author gives you wonderful delightful characters you can relate to with a wonderful plot you can get lost in. I really loved this from start to finish.

Jane leaves Boston moved to Montana to be a school teacher trying to escape the shame of her parents. Starting over she becoming a school teacher, things has not been easy for her when her past comes to haunt her she finds herself without a job. Paradise Valley has an opening which will have her leaving near a relative. She jumps at the change taking the job to once again start over in hopes she can outrun her past. Dusty hasn‘t had an easy time of it either when his parents died he sold out and moved to Texas. He meets up with Thomas and helps him move his cattle. He stays on with him building a home. The only thing missing is a good women to make his life complete.

When these two meet the attraction is off the chart but Dusty feels he isn’t good enough. Why would a lovely lady that is well educated want him? Jane is worried that her past will be found out and doesn’t dare get involved with Dusty. These two have a lot to learn about each other and love. They must learn to trust each other and work out the issues that keep them apart.
I really loved the plot how the author brings the couple together putting true family values in the story. I loved the characters even with their trying times it was a pleasure to get to know them. One can’t be blamed for what their parent has done but even today people are people and judge so hard. I thought the author came a very entertaining read that really keeps the reader invested giving you a well rounded plot with meaning. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us in the next book in this series.

If you are in the mood to read a nice Christian wild west adventure, this is the book for you. Jane was raised in Boston but heads to the Montana Territory, to teach the children of the community. Sounds like a true western trail ride already; however, this story is much more than that. She first teaches in Missoula and then moves to Bozeman, near a cousin and her husband who ranch in the area. The interaction of the ranchers, the members of the church, the Pastor and his wife and the children at the school, are at the heart of this book. Jane meets Dusty, a cowboy from her cousin’s ranch and her life begins anew. Ms. Holt, the author, brought so much life and love into the storyline that it kept me reading long into the night. Added to this exciting read was a new baby, a wedding and faithful friends. I felt a tear and had many smiles while reading this storyline. I loved every moment of this book. It can be read and enjoyed by anyone.

Winds Of Paradise ( Paradise Valley-Book 2 )
By: Vivi Holt
Winds of Paradise is book two in Paradise Valley series. I really loved the story and the characters, both were easy to follow ,and well developed. Ms Holt captured my heart right at the start and had me hooked. Dusty’s heart is harden and he is lonely ,and he is ready to settle down. He works for Paradise Ranch in Montana. Jane leaves the big city of Boston to start a new life and leave her past behind . Can she keep her past a secret or will her past follow her? Dusty and Jane are thrown together . Will their past keep them apart or is love stronger than fear.
I was given a complementary copy of of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review.

It's better to take a chance in love with the truth. No secrets.

It was a very interesting story. A lot of heartache and pain that Jane went through to find her true love. It took a lot to be honest to Dusty but it was the past that needed to be shared. You could just feel their pain as they both struggled.
