John takes his lovely little wife Alice and their son Tom from the east on a wagon train. The small family is heading to California. The trip is long, the first problem the train faces is a flooded river that is to high to cross, they wait it out for a short time and cross with ropes, on the crossing one of the children who is a friend of the young boy Tom a little girl is swept away and not found.
Her dear mother feels the loss. For weeks she stays in the wagon as they travel on. Sweet Alice gets the woman through the tuff time. She tells her that she is going to have a baby l the mother is so excited for Alice. Alice hasn’t told her husband yet. John has been working hard. Broken axle and testy mules. Tom is coming back calling his mother and the mules are angry she rushed forward and gets a swift kick into her head.

Very tragic story. I only hope the best for the young family. But sometimes life isn’t what we plan it’s the creators choices that we must learn to live with. John will never hold his loved on or his baby. But god has given him a son and he must go on.
I just realised I spoiled the story, for that I’m sorry.

Wagon Train--Off to New Life in California

I enjoy Katie Wyatt's Western Novels. Families prepared for the hardship involved in crossing the Plains as they traveled to a new life in California. Dangers were involved. A little girl was swept out of her families wagon as the attempted to cross a river. Her body was not found and the family had to continue without her. A Woman was kicked in the head by a mule. She did not regain consciousness and the family had to bury her beside the trail. She had just become aware that she was expecting a baby. Her husband and son were heartbroken, but they had to continue their trek. It was too dangerous to stay behind and mourn their loss. So on they went as these events would be repeated over and over again.

I loved this short novella.
I love reading Kate Wyatt's books, it's like watching good movies. Each character comes alive, the settings are described in detail. I always know when I get one of her books the storyline and the plot will be outstanding. Thanks Kate for your historical history in the US these are wonderful stories that entertain us during the era of the 1800's.

Another Katie Wyatt fast read

Katie Wyatt is a very gifted writer! At 70 years of age, I have been an lifetime avid reader. Although many books I read are heavy tomes, I often turn back to a Katie Wyatt for light reading and a happy ending book!

Now on to the next of the series!!!

John, Alice and Tom

This is the beginning of the great adventure for John, Alice and their young son Tom. They are leaving all they know, with most everything they own to travel by wagon train to California. They encounter Buffalo, trade with Indians, loose a young girl on a river crossing and more. You will enjoy this tale and see where their adventure will lead them.

Wagon Train

This was a sweet but short story. A young couple, John and Alice, Tom, who was only three, were traveling west in a wagon train. Tragedy did strike and some were taken from the trip. You will want to red this fresh start to California.

More like a short story

It was way too short to be called a book. Being a mother of 5, I can't imagine a three-year old being allowed to roam. The author would have made Tom more believable as a five year old.

Tear jerker

This is definitely a sad story. Be ready to unload a lot of tears. Wagon trains were not an easy life.

I liked this book very much. I am waiting to see if Katie Wyatt writes another story to complete this one and tell us what's next for the Hero and his son.
