When Daisy arrives at the farm campsite where her family are spending her summer holiday, she knows she’s going to have the best time ever. Especially when she finds out that the farm dog has just had puppies!
Daisy can’t help falling in love with Barney, the smallest of the litter of German shepherd pups. Barney takes to the friendly new girl who sneaks her food and smuggles him into her sleeping bag at night, and soon the pair are inseparable. Daisy longs to take Barney home with her and can’t bear the thought of leaving the puppy behind. Will she find a way to persuade Mum and Dad to let her keep him?

This is a good story about a girl and the pup she wishes she could own. The family is going on a camping holiday with a nice big tent provided for them on the camp site. They have two weeks and as luck would have it, just across the river is a German Shepherd breeder with a litter of pups. We see quite a lot of this setup to show us what a good, responsible breeder should be doing, how the pups should be reared and socialised, how good homes are ready to take the pups so they will not be going to a pet shop or anything.
The disadvantage of playing with pups is that of course you will want to adopt one and take it home. Especially the one with the floppy ear who just loves attention. But the family has a small house, a shepherd is a big dog, and all these pups are taken anyway, as soon as they are old enough. Secretly wanting one just doesn't work... or does it?
Parents and young people alike will learn lots from this read and there are cute pictures. Good for ages five up to eight I would think.
It was a sad cute story it even made me want the dog that was in there.Edit: The puppy is also very realistic and might have a German Shepherd as my next dog! And I loved how the puppy, Baxter, leaped and jumped threw the water, it was so cute. Edit: I LOVE BAXTER THE GERMAN SHEPHERD PUPPY! He's just so cute and if I ever get a German Shepherd I'm going to name him Baxter.
Cute!! When a girl and her family go to a campsite for 2 weeks, she starts to help out with some puppies that live there and slowly starts to fall in love with on particular puppy and even names it Barney but with only a few days before they have to go home, will she be able to separate from Barney?

However after Barney keeps escaping to get to her one time is amazing as he helps alert them to trouble...
This book showed how good dogs are at learning and how their instincts can save lives and help others from loneliness and making friends to saving lives any animal lover will enjoy the book I'm sure!
my favorite character was Daisy because she has a brother and she is soo adventures! And one thing that surprised me is that they were going camping and the dog saved them from a flood! And I would not change the ending because she gets to keep the dog and I love this book and its a great choice for young readers!!!!!! PLEASE READ THIS BOOK AND YOUR MIND WILL BE BLOWN!!!!!!!
The overall story was okay. But I think it would be more interesting if we met Oliver's friends. Also if Baxter's owner actually took him, so then he had to escape his new house. Otherwise I give this story a solid 4.4!
