A brand new paranormal hot and steamy romance by international bestseller, Lexy Timms. Constance can track a killer, but is there a killer locked up inside of her?
Constance is a psychic who only gets visions about murder. She teams up with tough Homicide Detective, Jack. For three years, they track and catch serial killers until, unexpectantly one day, Constance starts to remember a past that just cannot be.
When one sexually explosive night happens between her and Jack, Constance realizes the visions of the past have to be true. Neither of are what they seem to be and a world of shifters opens before her eyes.
Only Jack knows the truth of Constance’s past. He also knows how dangerous it can be. He’s been waiting a very long time for her and won’t risk losing her all over again. But at what cost?
Can their turbulent past destroy them both?
Heart of Stones Series The Protector The Guardian The Warrior
This was a long confusing book at times. Constance works with her partner Jack helping him stop murderers or at least that is what she believes. Jack searched for his wife for years, but upon finding her again he learns that she doesn't remember him. This was a different type of paranormal read for me. I have read this author before and I must say that I was surprised at the amount of errors in it. This book had a lot of confusion for me.
I received and ARC from the author in exchange for an honest, voluntary review. I went in to this book, not knowing what to expect. I guess I missed the paranormal aspect of the book before reading it, so the gargoyle aspect threw me for a loop at first. The book was good, just not what I typically read. The plot was good, I just didn't care for the parts when they were the gargoyles. I personally thought that Lycian was too brutal and hurt Bellanna. I wasn't sure why she kept going back to him after their first encounter. The parts of the book when they were Jack and Constance, I absolutely loved. While it wasn't my favorite book I have read, I would try another book by this author. Maybe if I went in realizing what I was reading, I would like it more.
This urban fantasy novella rather jarringly moves around in time and place, as we follow a woman fated to be loved by a shapechanging gargoyle, but turns out she is one too, she just forgot. Plenty of confusion over mirrors, whether someone is magically watching through a mirror, and a weird turn to secret agent sneaking in to a camp in Cartagena which pads it out nicely. There's a lot of violence and strong language, also this is an adult romance.
I downloaded a copy from Instafreebie. This is an unbiased review.
The storyline was interesting. I understood the need for the main characters to have lived hundreds of years, but the number of times the back and forth finding and losing each other was exhausting. This is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.
Alessia Santos, narrator was excellent. Her voice was easy on the ear. Her emotions and inflections were on point.
Lexy Timms' story "The Protector: Hot Steamy Paranormal Romance (Heart of Stone Series Book 1)" was not a good tale, in this reader's viewpoint. It is slowly, agonizingly slowly, revealed that male lead John, AKA Lycian, began to love protagonist Bellanna, AKA, Bella, AKA Constance, after raping her, followed by scene after scene of rough sex. It was not a romantic story, in this reader's eyes... no, not at all. Add to that, the sex scenes - probably two or perhaps three somewhat original, were simply repeated ad nauseum as first Constance and then Lycian lost there memories but remembered a certain sex act, which then allowed them to remember the person they had forgotten. The story jumps back and forth in time while the characters switch names - identities, and even personalities somewhat. While this reader was able to logically follow these various jumps in time and characters names, it didn't feel like a well told, flowing story - rather, it was like a bunch of scenes stitched together in a very loose fashion that still never gave a satisfying plot.
Antagonist gargoyle king Malais is presented as a stereotypical twin brother of Jack/Lycian that actually turns out to be an okay guy - sort of - so another evil antagonist is introduced as Bellanna/Bella/Constance's "husband" (in quotes because he knew she was actually still married to Lycian, so their marriage wasn't a real marriage - not to mention never consummated because she actually hated him) Nicco/Merger Ballatori, enters the picture. This did not add drama or thrills, it simply added more scenes of repetitious incidents. There was absolutely nothing believable found within this story. Granted, it is a paranormal tale, but a reader can usually still find something inside a story to relate to, in some way. There was nothing in this tale; the characters were closer to paper cutouts than three dimensional characters one might empathize for or with.
Lexy Timms appears to be a prolific author with a fanbase... this reader will not be joining them after her first reading of this story. This reader cannot recommend this book or the author after forcing herself to finish the tale. There was also some grammar, spelling and punctuation errors found in this story, mainly in the form of missing words in various sentences.
I really liked this book or at least the premise of it. It was hot it was steamy and it had gargoyles or is it chimeras or demons ... who knows and that kinda brings me to my issue. There was so many things that weren't clear in the story and it's not like there wasn't opportunity to expand and explain but even by the end most of the things I was confused about where never explained ... why the hate? What exactly did he make her? And why was it painful? I think with these things clarified it would be a much better book. It also jumps around a lot and has a tendency to info dump and by the end I was like oh another memory loss moment ... really I was left so confused about how much anyone knew at any one time. I think it could have expanded on the antagonist more but the characters where good and the story in itself held promise and I love the use of gargoyles in the story something that isn't really done enough if you ask me. Overall I probably wouldn't read the next one but the author and the story has great potential I'm just disappointed it didn't fully reach its full potential IMO
I have to admit that I found this story to be very confusing. It started out with Constance working with a detective to stop serial killers. She can "see" murders before they happen and Jack takes care of the killer before the murder can occur, hopefully. When Constance has a vision that involves Jack, things change. She suddenly has an impulse to kiss Jack. At first he rebuff s her and she feels stupid for doing it. When a "friend" of Jack's show up and Constance discovers that the three of them know each other from the past, things get even stranger because she doesn't remember. From this point on I was confused as heck. The story went back and forth from past to present and people kept appearing that seemed to have little to add to the story except to make it more confusing. A brother for Jack, along with a few more Gargoyles and other creatures, a couple of ex-husbands for Connie. People's names change from prior to present names for the same person. Connie is wrapped in velvet and goes months not knowing who she is... I know there has to be world building in these types of fantasy books, but this one was more mixed up then as called for. I might read the next book in the series because I am hoping one of the other characters will be featured and the story will be less convoluted. Also, the sex was really hot, though it seemed to happen at the strangest times. Maybe others will make more sense of the story than I did. I wish you luck.
OK so I hate giving low reviews but this was just below bearable. OK yes it lived up to the title and was deliciously steamy especially since ole boy could change his size while inside (very impressive and something I hadn't read before so I gotta hand it to the author for creativity). But that's about it. OK it was pretty cool that she lost her memory and all but that got old. If there was a plot I kinda lost it in the midst of the bad guy being not so bad and all of the other characters that fled in and out. Overall if you want some really steamy passion this is your book. I just like a more cohesive story to go with my steam.
Well, well...this is a new genre for Ms Lexy, but once again she excels! Constance is a psychic who see's murders before they take place, but can't seem to stop them...until she meets Jack, a Homicide Detective. He was leery at first, but started working with Constance to stop the murderers. She locates them, and he deals with them...or does he? Visions of the past are haunting her, and she realizes there may be more to them than being partners!
This is a totally new take on some of the paranormal entities. (Sorry...no spoilers) Very well written and mesmerizing. You definitely need to read this story!
Gargoyles are real, they live for ever and they can't love, except they can and everyone seems to fall in love with Constance who through the centuries has had different names and nationalities. There were some really good parts to this tale and some not so good. There is a lot of memory loss through mesmers and a lot of remembering; a lot of hurt and tears and anger and in some ways it is a bit too much and too jumbled. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. An ok read, but I won't be buying the rest of the series.
Fantasy, adventure and romance all rolled into one, who wouldn't like that combination. This is definitely for mature readers as there are some steamy scenes as well as violence. It is also a book I would advise to read when you know there will be no disruptions as the time jumping can make things get really confusing at times due to all the twist and turns. I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it.
I was very confused when reading this book. So many events, characters, references, etc. were left unexplained or were briefly explained way after they occurred. If Timms had made the story clearer, this could have easily been a 4 star book for me. I loved the passion and devotion the characters had for each other, even when one was a stranger to the other. I loved the action. I loved so much about this book. It just needs those edits.
It took me 62% through to get an understanding of the plot. A female Chimera, basically she is a homicidal beast. She keeps having her memory wiped on whomever takes her. As she is as clueless as the reader, she just spends 3/4 of the book having sex and with different name changes of characters during the centuries, let's add to the confusion and have her husband's memories wiped too.
This book is an HEA and is not a cliffhanger. It is part of a series.
The characters in this book are hard to keep track of. I had to reread several passages just to try and keep up with the plot. They change names depending on which era they are portraying the story in. There is a lot going on during this book, there is love, there is romance, there is kidnapping, there is subterfuge, there is sex, and there is nonsense.
I will not be reading the next book in the series.
There was so much going on as Bella or Constance tends to get her memory wiped. At first I had a difficult time keeping up because there were so many different time breaks but I eventually caught on and followed the timeline. The sex scenes were probably the hottest part of the book and very interesting as I haven’t read anything about gargoyles before.
A very nice read. Dialogue was good. And the characters drew me in. But the continuing time changes left me confused at times. Sexy, weirdly intense at times and definitely angst galore.
I must be late to this party because, although I am a fan of Lexy Timm, this book somewhat lost me and I didn't pick up on several phrases or some meanings. The book left me feeling somewhat confused as to the overall premise of the story.
This was crazy good. I've never read about gargoyles like this before. I am stoked and ready to read the next book. It was exciting, sensual and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sorry this book was not for me. Too many circles of the same thing. Too many flashbacks and dreams that made it hard to understand the timeline. But this is just my opinion and may be the perfect book for someone else.
It was ok about sums it up. I won't be reading anymore in this series. It just didn't flow together form. Seemed choppy and it was hard to figure out what was going on. Not much info on what was going on.
What an interesting story. Lots of secrets. Lost memories. Traveling all over the world. What a love story that lasted hundreds of years. You’ll not want to put this one down!
This was like reading abstract art. It was confusing and beautiful. It made no sense and perfect sense at the same time. The more I read the more I saw but sometimes I was wondering if I was interpreting the story as opposed to reading it.
A some what dark novel, about gargoyles. Liked all the characters, even though i thought the plot was flaky and could of been so much better. Narrator presented it well, even the moans and groans. Lol.
This is not the kind of book I usually read but it looked interesting, so I gave it a try but for me it was hard to keep my attention. I did not like the characters or the story line. It was well written but just not my cup of tea
I found this confusing and a little difficult to follow. Maybe I just don't understand gargoyles especially when their history seems to run to ancient times.
Wow this book certainly captures your imagination. Its breath takingly good. Characters are great and well written leaving you wanting more. Great book
