Elizabeth Wilde presents a thrilling collection of scary tales, stories of the macabre, chilling mysteries and unearthly bizarre yarns! Perfect for after-dark story-telling, or snuggling up in the covers for a chilling evening alone.
Read a lone traveler who gets lost in a thick marsh at night, only to stumble upon a strange house and a family who have a ghastly tale to tell; a ruthless murder is committed and all goes well--until the body disappears inexplicably from the middle of the woods; two boys spend the night in a haunted house, only to get wound in a ghostly web of greed, deceit--and death! And more!
Pull your chair nearer the fireside; light the candle or lantern and pull the bed covers tight! The phantoms are roaming tonight!
I really enjoyed the eight stories in that anthology! The stories were mild horror, full of ghosts and strange occurances. Some had the touch of being a true report. There is not a single miss in this collection. Every tale could have taken from a schoolbook. Hard to name a favorite here but I especially liked the crime story "The Evidence" because it had a great twist at the end. "The Treasure Tree" reminded me a bit on "The Gold Bug" by Poe. "The Halloween Costume" is a great tale full of jealousy. "Why It Came to Murder" has an astonishing turn... you see I really liked that stuff. Highly recommended!
