"We're three women from two different centuries, trying to save the world from oblivion. I don't know about you, but that's way above my pay grade."
A time warp has opened in a popular Santa Fe retail store. The building housing the shop was the main office of The Manhattan Project during its development in the 1940s. Only one person has witnessed the departure of two dangerous men through the doorway to the past--reporter Rachel Blackstone. Although she is certain they are evil she has no idea how they left 2015 or where they landed on the other side, only that she saw them do it. But the office on the other side is certainly a very different place than the showroom with the neatly arranged inventory of gifts and Native American art. When she uncovers the mystery of the room, threats are made and people die. It becomes apparent at least one man is an alien force wearing a Nazi uniform--and intent on changing the balance of nuclear weapons in the world. Rachel and friend Chloe time travel to a world of subterfuge, secrets and danger. If they can't stop the two men intent on sabotage, history will be changed. For Rachel and Chloe, it's no small task: just save the world.
G G Collins loves the southwestern US where many of her stories are located. She can be found hiking through ruins of the ancient ones and enjoying New Mexican cuisine. When not traipsing about, she makes up stories with great friendships, quirky characters and, oh yeah, dead bodies. In real life she shares her time with a man, several neurotic—and psychic—cats and the ongoing struggle to grow a garden.
Inspired by the American southwest, its many cultures and Native American traditions, GG Collins writes two mystery series set in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Whether you enjoy chilling paranormal mysteries/thrillers or cozy cat-inhabited puzzles, Collins delivers. The Rachel Blackstone Paranormals are infused with shamans, power animals and spirits while being grounded in contemporary issues and events. Rachel often finds she becomes part of the stories she reports while trying to avoid becoming the headline. The Taylor Browning Cozies are more time-honored. Taylor, a mystery editor at a book publisher, does a little sleuthing on the side. She finds she can’t edit her way out of real murder.
What a wonderful book! In an interesting twist, we learn more about the Manhattan Project while we read this book by G. G. Collins. It's got all the great stuff you want in a book to hold your interest, a little mystery, a little sci-fi, a little history.
This is the third Rachel Blackstone book I've read by G.G. Collins and they keep getting more exciting. This one was quite scary and fascinating. I learned a lot about the era of the atomic bomb and what went into it that I hadn't known. I continue to enjoy the shenanigans of Rachel who just wants to live a normal life but because she has a 'gift' continues being put in these desperate situations not even knowing what she's doing, only wanting to help so others are not hurt or killed.
