Move over Alice Munro and O Henry. Michael Joll is a short story writer for all times. Every story takes you to a different time, place, and situation. Every word deserves to be there. If you like short stories you will love Perfect Execution (how appropriately named!). If you prefer novels, as I thought I did, read his historical fiction about WWI. If you like that (and I daresay you will), read his book of short stories, "Inspector Masters Investigates Persons of Interest" after that. It reads like a novel. You will then be hooked on both short stories and eager for more of Michael Joll's writing.
Michael Joll’s first book is a collection of short stories that take the reader all over the world, from lolling around in the blue tropical waters of the Caribbean, to Colonial India and the US west coast, with a visit to the frozen Midwest of Canada and England, of course, from whence he hailed. Every story is a gem to be treasured!
