Bryan Stevenson is an activist who works against the death penalty and for the people incarcerated and on death row. In his book, Just Mercy, he outlines his journey towards his activism. The book discusses racism and how it affects the prison population, the commercialization of prisons, which has increased the number of people incarcerated, the laws that give inordinate amount of power to prosecutors and judges to make decisions that are not in tune with actual justice, as well as poverty and abuse—a sure-fire way to get into prison, black or white. What a wonderful experience to follow Bryan from Law School to advocate for the disenfranchised in prison, especially those on death row, who came as teenagers and were given sentences with no parole. He is an inspiration of what can be done, especially when we are compassionate to all peoples. I hope I can do something in my small way to help this man and the group he has set up to help others.

This book was such a joy to read. It had me laughing and crying and all of the in-between. So numbing the truth behind each story.
