*Rock Hard is a standalone romance with a guaranteed HEA* Jayce Owens. Music’s biggest star. Sexiest man alive. My new boss. And the man who could bring my world crashing down around me… I felt like I couldn’t breathe when he stared at me from underneath the brim of his cowboy hat. Those sexy brown eyes, the way his penetrating gaze raked up my body… it made me break out in goose bumps. Why did he single me out? I’d seen the women he’d taken to the CMAs before, and they were tall and lanky and fancy, like gourmet biscotti. Me? I was vanilla ice cream. His presence overpowered, commanded, and given different circumstances, I might’ve said yes to a date. But I couldn’t. I worked for him now, and I refused to be one of those girls who slept their way to stardom. I didn’t spend four years getting a B.A. in Music Performance, learning guitar, piano, and vocals, moving to Nashville to try and make it against my family’s will, all so some cocky country star could woo me with his charisma. But with the way he looked at me, the way he touched me, the way he said my name….I just couldn’t resist. Before I knew it, I was just like every other girl who’d met Jayce Owens…tangled up in his web of secrets, half-truths, and twisted desire. And just like any good country song… the whole thing was destined to end in nothing but heartbreak.
I am really sorry to say that from the first page I had problems to get into this book. What could have been a gorgeous story was somehow disturbed by the characterdevelopment. I totally did not like the characters and as I am known for having a problem with anything that feels "INSTA" - I have to say that this book was not for me. I might be the odd one out here as this is really just my personal issue - so I am not the one to tell you to not read this book.
This book surprised me. At first I thought Jayce was a real douche. Actually, he was. Elena was hired as a backup singer for Jayce Owens, country superstar's latest album. With a real rocky start Jayce and Elena make music. She's strong hardworking and talented and determined that Jayce will respect her and it's hard because she has real feelings for him.
All that Jayce has is not as it seems. He's actually afraid of his house of cards falling down as he and Elena get close. I really felt their relationship grow in this book as did they both stand firm for what they need to do. It's a very relaxing read!!
Cover is hot. Name of book made me think this was a Rockstar theme book.
I didnt like it. I felt as if the book and plot was all over the place, at times i couldnt work out where it was or where it was going. The idea is a good one but it lacks depth and plot. Its not a book i enjoyed, i have tried another one by this author and it was the same so I doubt ill buy any more.
Have 4 stars due to very last two page! Is there another book in the works? What author leaves the ending like this? Storyline was ok...read one other book with a musician theme. Not really my thing but might be to another reader. Characters seemed more real life than normal. Book was good other then ending SOOOO disappointed in author ending book how she did.
I gave up reading after a few chapters; It just seemed to mechanical without any depth. It is rare that I actually give up reading a book, I have finished some real doozies, I just couldn’t do it with this one.
I had a hard time reading this. I put it down several times. Just couldn't get into the characters. Not an easy book to stay with. Finally finished it. Not anywhere near as good a previous North books.
Elena Wallace is a backup singer for various music stars in Nashville and waitress at Hammerhill's but when Jayce Owens sees her for the first time he immediately thinks she is Summer sunshine in a small package, Strawberry Shortcake.
Jayce Owens is an up and coming music star in Nashville and Elena Wallace why such a big star would single her out for a date. She had seen the women he had taken to the CMA's and they were gourmet biscotti to her vanilla Pop Tart! She could not wrap her mind around why he would woo her when he could have any woman he wanted. Problem is she is the only woman he wants and he intends to have her.
This book is sweet, hot and yes, sometimes a little dirty. It definitely grabs your attention and holds it from page 1 to the very last page. It is somewhat filled with real life situations which some will understand and some not so much!
I loved the fact that Jayce thinks he's not good enough for Elena because of his roots and family drama which involves an alcoholic abusive father and a mother still willing to put up with this from her husband. But Jayce just won't open up and talk about his family for fear of losing Elena but comes pretty close when he pulls a disappearing act for the second time.
Jayce is so much in love with Elena but simply doesn't know how he'll hold onto her once she finds out about his pre stardom life.
If you like reading a somewhat impossible love story with a definite HEA then this book is a must read.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book. Paige North is a talented author and I enjoy every book of hers that I have read but I think this one is my favorite.
I rated this book 5 stars because I felt it deserved no less. It is a well written book.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I enjoyed reading this story because it was full of emotional angst, scorching love scenes, a compelling storyline, and this book was well written by Paige North. I loved the characters of Jayce Owens and Elena Wallace (or Shortcake—her nickname). I laughed at times during the banter between Jayce and Elena. Jayce is tall, handsome, and panty dropping sexy—he is country music hottest music superstar. Elena just finished college in New Hampshire, and now lives in Tennessee to start her music career. From the first time Jayce meets Elena, he is captivated by her. Elena does not want to start her career off or be known by sleeping her way up to the top—she wants to make it in the music business on her own. When she meets Jayce, she tries to keep her emotions hidden and will do everything to protect herself. But when Jayce meets Elena, all bets are off and he will stop at nothing to get to know her, to get her in his bed. The chemistry between Jayce and Elena grows more potent the more time they spend together—the sex is off the chart hot! Jayce proposition Elena to collaborate as a duet for his album. Will the duet materialize? Jayce has a secret that he does not want Elena to find out about. What could be so devastating that Jayce has to hide a secret from Elena? Will Jayce and Elena’s relationship (professional and other) be able to sustain and will she find out about his secret? This story will pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the very end.
This is the 5th book of Paige North's that I have read and by far the best. It was hot and stayed that way from beginning to end. The grammatical and spelling errors that I had mentioned in prior reviews were none existent in this book. I really enjoyed Jayce and Elena's story, I liked how the characters were developed by not after chapters and chapters of needless information. It was short, sweet, hot and well written.
I was provided an advanced copy of the book by the author/publisher for an honest review.
Jayce is a cocky, country singer and he meets Elena a backup singer who's gorgeous and spunky and sings really good. But Elena just wants to make it and Jayce is her boss but will that stop Elena from wanting Jayce? Will Jayce open up to Elena or go leaving like he always seems to do? Drama and sexiness in this book. Will Jayce and Elena have there HEA or will it all coming crumbling down? 4/5 stars *** I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Copy of this book ***
I volunteered to review an ARC in order to provide an honest review. Elena and Joyce had ultra-hot chemistry! So many things can happen when you chase and eventually achieve your dream. Paige North hits another home run!
Elena came to town for her career. To be discovered. When she meets the famous and very good looking Jayce will all her plans be forgotten? I thought this was a fun story of instant attraction and a determination to find a HEA.
I was struggling with my feelings toward Paige North until I read Rock Hard and decided, “Alright, I really, really like her.”
Synopsis: Elena Wallace sings backup for the Jayce Owens. Country music’s heartthrob bad-boy picks her out and gives her the opportunity she left everything she ever knew for. Two know-it-all artists from different backgrounds find their inspiration in one another as they use each other as a muse and a warm body. They never expected their passion for music to transform into something more that neither of them was prepared to experience.
Overall Impression:
Right off the bat, I wasn’t sure. The novel started off heavy with Jayce’s ego so I thought I wouldn’t like him as a character but he turned out to be more of the main character than Elena. He had a complicated upbringing that kept him from getting close to anyone new. Elena breaks through a lot of his walls but he continues to keep her at arm’s length by using sex, money, and success as a way of keeping her content.
Elena’s upbringing was loving and supportive. She struggles in the novel to keep up with her bills and attempt to make it as an artist. Jayce provides an opportunity for her to do that but she feels the line she must walk is very thin. One wrong question and she could be out on the streets without a job and forced back home with her tail between her legs.
Jayce has to battle out his inner demons in order to continue developing his relationship with Elena but he’s not sure he can do it. I felt for him throughout the novel and really wanted him to move on from his past. His indecisiveness didn’t annoy me. It just made me root harder for him to overcome those hurdles.
I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys romance. The sex scenes were pretty sexy but the relationship was amazing. They had real arguments about real things. There were so many turns that made you feel for these characters. I truly wanted to see how things would work out rather than skip ahead to the good parts (which some authors make me want to do).
