Chelsea, you are the love of my life. Please marry me.

On another note, I'm truly not convinced by the romance between Tatsumi and , it truly comes out of nowhere? Like, sure, he saved her, but don't tell me he's the only who's done so, because that is NOT true, all members of the Night Raid have probably saved each other dozens of times.
Also, we've seen no build-up to her falling in love?? She blushed a couple of times when talking to him, but she really went from 0 to 100 VERY FAST.
I can't help but feel that this relationship adds nothing to the plot, it's just there because they needed a female character to fall in love with Tatsumi so male readers could imagine a woman falling in love with them. I'm kinda tired of that narrative.
To all (male) mangakas: not all women need to fall in love with your male MC. PLEASE.

General series thoughts: Mixed bag to the max. I find the overall conflict, including some of the harsh realities of the battles, extremely compelling. But I do feel the series goes too far in the graphic nature of some things that boil down to being there simply to show someone's a bad guy. The art is striking in parts and hard to follow in others. Attached to the characters and completely hooked into reading to see where it all goes, but on the other hand it is a rough read.

Every new battle is more exciting than the last ones. We finally get to see Raba fighting again and Najenda facing Esdese. There is also that powerful, perfectly complementary dynamic between Mein and Akame that makes my heart melt every time -has anyone else noticed how surprised Akame is whenever Mein tries to help her out? She is obviously used to fighting on her own, which makes seeing this team fight a really unique and enjoyable experience.

Esdese turned out to be even stronger than expected. She literally freezes time and space -this is, in my opinion, one of the best scenes in the series so far. Leone and Tatsumi give their all to try and help Akame in the very last chapter and Najenda uses up almost all of her energy for Susanoo. In addition to that, the ending suggests that the Empire now face another threat… and I am so looking forward to seeing what that is.

……………………………………………………………………………………...

Finally got to the point where the story is starting to diverge from what I remembered from the anime. This volume is where the assassination of Bolic goes into full gear and the remaining members of Night Raid clash with Esdeath herself - and we see the huge power gap between them. Too bad some of the fight scenes are not very clearly drawn to show what exactly happened.

3.5 rounded down, because I did find a few of the battle scenes hard to follow. This volume does have a LOT of emotional payoff though, and actually ended up being the volume that makes me like the human teigu Susanoo

Really liked this volume. The Priest is very interesting. Finally got to see Wave fight. Much stronger than I anticipated.

Najenda noticing Mine's feelings and telling her to go for it. Esdeath using her trump card that she just created?

Killing Bolic, unfortunate Susanoo died. He was a good teigu

Now I'm beginning to see where the manga and the anime diverge. Nothing too major, but small things. This was a fun read, though.

Overall Rating: 8/10 - Very good and well paced story, a bit original. Characters are detailed with their flaws. Their backgrounds and how they became are straight to the point and not overbearing. The psyche of numerous characters are very well displayed. Nothing dragging about this series, and the conclusion was damn near perfect. I recommend this series, although it is already popular with a tv show...

Do I recommend it:
