Sienna Nealon doesn't need any complications. On the run from the law, trying to carve out as much of a life for herself as she can, the last thing she needs is the idiotic Guy Friday pounding on her door one night, wounded and begging for help.
But helping people is part of who Sienna is, and soon she's embroiled in the fight against an assassin with the power to seemingly appear and disappear at will. Hunted all over the United States, Sienna must protect Friday as the two of them explore his past in order to reveal the unbelievable secret that ties Sienna and Friday in a way that neither of them ever expected.
Robert J. Crane was born and raised on Florida's Space Coast before moving to the upper midwest in search of cooler climates and more palatable beer. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in English Creative Writing. He worked for a year as a substitute teacher and worked in the financial services field for seven years while writing in his spare time.
Wowsers! Robert Crane is an amazing storyteller! Sienna Nealon the biggest badass on the planet, has always been a very witty, sarcastic, pop-culture referencing, lovable, rage-filled, sympathetic, heroine / anti-heroine, succubus, and she still is. This may a stand alone book, but to fans of the series it works very well. If you haven't read the previous books I suggest you start reading them immediately because while some are better than others, they are all really enjoyable.
When Guy Friday turns up on her doorstep, desperate for Sienna's protection, there can be no doubt that this will be epic! Crane narrates the story from the point of view of 4 different characters, each with their own unique voice, mixing an action-packed rollercoaster with humor and a few touching moments (okay the moments aren't THAT touching, but in Sienna's world tender, vulnerable moments are few and far between and sentimentality really is not awesome kittens - an inside joke, read the book). An early big mystery in this novel is what category of meta human our villain falls into isn't all that surprising, Crane gives plenty of clues, but the details of his superpowers and how he uses them is very clever and surprising.
Along the way, Sienna makes good use of every soul at her disposal and it is clear that they all really care about her. Harmon, the most cerebral and arguably the most deplorable character she's ever had the misfortune to absorb, gets rounded out in a believable manner. We finally get to see what it is like to be a telepath from her point of view. We also get to see her use the abilities of every meta human she's absorbed.
But the action isn't limited to Sienna, Augustus and the Agency have their hands full with a variety of SUPER-meta villains that need to be stopped. The action here is creative and sometimes really gross, which is normal for Sienna, but less common for her friends. The end result is an intense, disgustingly violent, highly creative, frequently funny, occasionally touching tour de force. Expect to see people from previous books pop up in surprising ways, with interesting new lifestyles. Read the book. Read the series.
Lots of foul language, no graphic sex scenes, graphic ultra-violence.
With an author as prolific as Robert, it is seriously difficult to find something new to say. How many ways can I say "this is a great book - get it on your e-reader now". Well, quite a few if the number of past reviews is any indication.
But I digress.
Once again, we are treated to something a little different. This was laugh out loud funny. But at the same time, quite poignant. And the character unveiled? For real? Wow. That's gonna be fun.
It's plain that I enjoyed this one. Fast paced, twisty-turny (I never saw the reveal coming despite the foreshadowing), but with some measure of support and solidarity regained for Sienna, despite the ratcheting up of the campaign against her.
This is just ... KITTENS! (read the book - then you'll understand)
Looking forward to reading Sienna - the UK tales...
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
What a wonderful addition to the series. Sienna Nealon is still as irreverent as ever and has the quickest wit of any super heroine out there. The action and snarky comments never stop. I really enjoyed Sienna getting back to not really her old self, but a new improved version. The relationships between the characters are as great as ever and I am really glad she is interacting with the others as well. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in action packed and very humorous stories.
How Robert J Crane manages to write so many books in so little time is beyond me. Yet again I was unable to put this book down from start to finish. I'm so glad I saved it for the bank holiday weekend. 24 books ago I downloaded a free copy of the girl in the box and was hooked within the first chapter. Looking forward to my summer holiday and book15
I will always love Sienna books, though I will admit to skimming some of Guy Friday's rants in this one. He may grow on me in the future, but for now, well... Otherwise, I love the novelty that persists in these books -- always a new locale or a new power coming into the mix. Sienna continues to evolve, too!
Always very inticing what the different metas can and will do to gain what they seek. Makes me believe they really exist. I cant wait to read the next book! Keep them coming!
Loved it, as always! Can't wait to read the next one. Keep them coming, Robert. I totally adore you and your books
I thought as I started this one that it would be the last one I’d read in this series. Dead wrong. I loved this one. Even though I saw some of the revelations coming I think it’s in the top 3 of this series. The development of the relationship between Sienna and those living in her head is my favorite aspect. Even Friday has been redeemed. On to the next one!
This book was mazing, as usual! Loved the plot twists, character developments, and the few surprises towards the end were a pleasant surprise as well. Although, the foreshadowing at the end has me a little worried. Still, great book overall.
I just have to say that I was laughing so hard reading this book. I am even laughing right now just thinking about all the hilarious stuff Friday says. Good times! This book was so fun to read thank you so much for the good read. Kittens! Hilarious hahaha!
It takes a lot for me to abandon a book and I am abandoning this one. The story telling by Friday is not entertaining, does not draw the reader in and is definitely not worth the time.
The stories are a little weird but a little like marble comic books. The writing is spectacular and out of this world. That is why I can’t wait to see what happens next to the Girl from the Box.
I was struggling with Sienna for awhile there but this book got me back on her side. I am so impressed with how the story stays interesting even after so many books. Looking forward to the next one.
For the most part it was a good book but good grief, the parts with Friday telling stories are so incredibly stupid that I just started skipping them completely. I get what the point was but feel like he could have been full of it without being quite so stupid.
My favorite ‘Out Of The Box’ so far!! Zooming through the series … was pleasantly surprised at the humor throughout this installment!! Expanding the role of Guy Friday is a ‘Totally Kittens’ idea! LOL On to the next!!
As did enjoy it, but, I will say I found my concentration wandering. It felt I don't maybe a little slow compared to previous books. But I suspect that this is a subtle way of RJC to take us on a different path with his next book/s. We will see.
Sienna is on her own in a safe house she thinks no one knows about. Well she thinks it. Enter the last meta she wants to see, or have no her whereabouts.
