Psychic Charlie Payne has a lot on her plate. She's been helping the local deputy with cold cases of missing people, trying to be a good mom, and dealing with her ex-husband, which is never a picnic in the park.
When Charlie is called in to help with the mysterious death of a young woman, things suddenly take a supernatural turn in the investigation. Is it suicide? Or something more sinister?
The deeper Charlie digs the more long-buried secrets start to surface. Charlie must embrace the witch within her to keep from becoming the next victim because a ghost with a grudge isn’t just dangerous. It’s deadly.

Another spooky installment in the Witches of Palmetto Point series. This time Charlie is dealing with two separate cases – one with a vengeful ghost and the other with children who were murdered.
Timeline was this books jumps a few months ahead and Charlie and Jason, the deputy sheriff, are working together. Jason finally believes in Charlie's gift and uses her to help him with both cold and active cases.
A new character was also introduced who isn't all he presents himself to be and Charlie's ongoing custody issues with her ex-husband finally come to a favorable agreement.
As with the first book there are plenty of scary moments mixed with laugh out loud humor.
I loved this easy read! I would actually rate it a 4.5 because the material is not as deep and developed as most books I rate a 5, but in choosing between going higher or lower, I had to give it the higher rating due to the enjoyment level of reading it! I will definitely continue on with this series.
I am totally into this series now! It gets better with the character building in each book. Magic, witches, supernatural beings and family dynamics all set in a modern twist! I ready for the next book!
Wendy does like to describe emotions with lips but it’s part of her style and I love her stories and am already emotionally invested in.her characters on to book three for me
This book wasn't perfect, but it's the supernatural (cozy?) series I never knew I needed/wanted. I'm looking forward to getting to know more about the characters and their abilities.
*It's a good series for fans of the Sookie Stackhouse books.
Wayward Spirits is a light paranormal suspense and the second book in the Witches of Palmetto Point series. I liked this one even better than the first one because it seemed to have more going on in it. It also didn't hurt that I'd come to like the characters from reading the first book. The family unity is a big plus for me too. Just when you think you have things figured out, the author throws us a curve ball that was pretty neat. I hope we get to see more of Tom and his family in future books. Good read.
For those who want to know: There are a couple of cuss words but for the most part it's a clean read.
This left off right where the first book ended with suspicious non-believer cop turn friend & a new guy in her life with a family secret (twist) lol. This story had multiple cases going on unlike the first, they were all interesting. Ex husband even seen the light finally haha. I recommend this book if interested in supernatural of course, & now I just need the next 2 entries.
I am so pleased that I finally picked up the Witches of Palmetto Point. Wayward Spirits is book 2, & it also focuses on psychic Charlie, who comes from a family of witches & is able to see & speak to the dead. The casual use of magic is one of the things I really love about these books. Although there are witches, ghosts, & reapers, I don't feel like the author is pushing the paranormal down my throat. In fact, the events are scary enough to be entertaining, but mild enough that an open minded reader could almost believe this was based on true events (almost, lol). The point is that the paranormal aspect is very well done, falling in the perfect range to where it doesn't strain credulity but remains definitively in the realm of the supernatural. In both this & the first book, Haunting Charlie, Charlie uses her abilities to help restless spirits find their rest. She has help from a handsome police officer, who believes in her powers & has made her a consultant for cold cases, etc. This book also introduced another possible love interest, though he is somewhat on the mysterious side, & his true nature will surprise you. The author balances these magical & paranormal elements of the story with just enough real life issues, as Charlie also has an ex husband who doesn't believe in her powers & whom she is fighting for custody of their only son, who is starting to manifest psychic abilities of his own. Then there is Charlie's colorful family, including three female cousins who are all witches. I really liked this book & would definitely recommend it to fans of paranormal mystery, slow burn romance, & all things magic. The writing is well done & the plot moves along at a healthy pace, tempering action to exposition expertly. I read Wayward Spirits in one sitting, because it was that easy of a read & engrossing of a plot. I am pretty pumped that there are still quite a few more books in the series, & can't wait to see where Charlie's journey takes her & in what ways she & the other characters grow as their tale continues.
Wayward Spirits: Witches of Palmetto Point Book 2, my second read from author Wendy Wang an author I’d not heard of until I received an email from author Gwendolyn Druyor outlining the challenges that her friend Wendy was facing. Wendy’s husband David is in the hospital. "He's been there for a couple of weeks already. Something twisted in his guts and his lungs are not working as they should. There have been incremental improvements, but nobody is telling her he's getting better. She's scared. Wendy is going to have to cancel the preorder for her next book. Amazon will not allow her to do another presale for a full year. Presales bring in a lot of money, drive rank up for launch day, and are very important to indie authors. It's going to crush her business. All that on top of spending the holidays in the ICU, wondering..." Motivated to give a new author a try I went out and got the first four books in this series. This book, the second, a 9-hour 47 minute/434-page psychic suspense mystery was thoroughly enjoyable picks up at the conclusion of the first book, the addition of a police detective makes a good series even better, I love a good mystery. ” I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Amy Melissa Bentley’s narration again adds to the enjoyment. I look forward to reading more from this author and Devil's Snare: Witches of Palmetto Point Book 3 is next on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Light and enjoyable but nothing serious or profound.
I enjoyed the first book, and I enjoyed this one too but I expected more. I realised the first book was an introduction to a series, yet this book does little to progress the character arcs.
Charlie the MC gets a little character growth as she accepts her abilities and decides to stand up to her ex-husband regarding their son.
Her three cousins however, get very little screen time and almost nothing new is revealed about them. I found that annoying as obviously they are a really big part of Charlie's life. I also quite like the cousins and want to know more about them.
The introduction of Tom however was not the great mystery the author and some readers seem to think, at least not for me. Come on,
Anyway, a nice easy read with witches, ghosts and magic.
Disappointing. I'd hoped some of the more persisting/annoying issues of book one would work itself out in book two. Sadly, it seemed to get worse rather than better. If I had to sum it up in one word, it'd be confused. Practically no world building, what little there was to be had of anything resembling "lore" regarding their "abilities" and whatnot appeared more willy-nilly as opposed to actual lore.
The more I read of Charlie, the less I liked her. Constantly oscillating between claiming to be a pro, the "real deal", confidently, bordering on arrogant and recklessly charging into situations, brushing it off as no biggie versus rejecting/denying any and all of her powers etc and making rookie moves because of it.. or the way she goes on and on about how intuitive she is but then repeatedly dismisses it out of hand..
And don't even get me started on the whole "Tom Sharon" aka Charon, the Ferryman, aka Mr. Death... really?!
I got distinct Charmed meets Melinda Gordon/ Ghost Whisperer vibes, apart from Mr. Death that was straight out of Meet Joe Black.
Oh, and it could've done with a good editor. I lost count of the number of typos, missing words, incomplete sentences, misplaced commas, etc. Will most definitely not be picking up book 3.
The first book in the series was, I thought, too spread out, it made it difficult to concentrate on the strands and they, individually, never satisfactorily came together. "Wayward Spirits", however, is more focussed and, as a result, a far better read. Charlie is helping the police investigate the death of a young woman who plunged from the top of her building and was impaled on the railings below. One witness says she was pushed, others say she was alone when she died ....? That mystery is fairly rapidly solved but it would seem she won't be the last one to die. And why is Charlie getting up close and personal with the Grim Reaper? Without giving anything away you should be aware that a new character, a funeral director no less, is named Tom Sharon ....puhlease!!! Some of us readers have read our mythology and this one was a given! On the home front ex-husband Scott is trying to 'make' their son Evan normal through medication - Charlie promptly pursues the legal route, a move guaranteed to tick Scott off. There is also the mystery of the girls who went missing, suffice it to say that they find peace and provide a lovely ending to the book.
Sooo good. This series is definitely dark, but not so much so that I have nightmares or am in a daze all day (I’m an empath and when I am reading a book I tend to “become” the story so much so that I feel I’ve got a blanket of dread over me for the duration of the story if it is a dark and heavy one.) I tend to keep with lighter, happier reads.
I cried toward the end when one of the characters died because I really liked them and had hope for them. It was such a disappointment, but then my ever hopeful spirit fought off the tears and I just knew the character would be ok. Maybe their spirit will show itself to Charlie and therefore never really leave this series. I won’t tell you how everything panned out though. Don’t want to ruin it for you.
If you are looking for a light read this isn’t for you. If you don’t like reading about children’s deaths, this may not be for you - there are a lot of them. However, everything turns out well for everyone in the end and one of the more stubborn characters has a change of heart that makes them more tolerable.
There’s also a new character I can’t wait to get to know in the next books.
4.5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I would have given this book 5 because I LOVED IT!! Creepy ghost stories and witches with a reaper and all based in a beach setting. I am hooked on this series now. The only thing is I could have started a drinking game with how many times the author said coated her throat. Every time a smell was explained that description was used and it really stared to bother me.
Also the typos are insane, Not sure if it was because it was a free kindle ebook or it was actually written that way? But she might want to look into a new editor 🙈
💕Lines from the wayward spirits I loved. 💕
“Never tell a woman she looks tired. It’s just a nice way of saying you look like crap.”
“No. If I wasn’t friends with you in high school or college, I sure don’t have time to be friends with you now on Facebook.”
Now, she knew that evil didn't always look the way it was portrayed on television or in movies with some maniacal villain. Sometimes it just looked like a sad old man, rotting away in his loneliness.
Hey Wendy. Guess what? This series is growing on me. Wayward Spirits is a much more developed novel. In book two, Charlie is working with Jason (cop from book 1) and encounters a hostile spirit; but this is not all that Charlie must deal with. There's the situation with a few lost girls, a reaper, her obnoxious good-looking ex-husband, family history, gifted son Evan, as well as another dashing gentleman who both captivates and occasionally triggers Charlie's "something's up" radar. With the new guy in the fold, I wonder how this triangle between him, Charlie and Jason will unfold. Hmm.
In Wayward Spirits, Charlie is not the docile young divorcee from the first novel who allows her ex to control her. No. This 'new' Charlie is assertive and takes more chances. She now understands what she wants and is willing to battle to protect it--or take it. She is commanding her gift. I like her now. And when she is with her cousins--Jen, Lisa, and Daphne--they are more like sisters. Love their candor and willingness to help each other.
Finally, there are still editing issues in this book; however, they are NOT as overwhelming as they were in the first.
Love the characters in this story, which is the second book in the series. Charlie can talk to the dead and her family of women all have similar gifts that make them special. They have a close bond, have each other's back, plus they live in a small town. The dead sometimes linger especially if they were murdered and Charlie can help the dead and law get justice.
Charlie is divorced and does not have custody of her young son. She wants to change that. Unfortunately, her ex is difficult, denies her gift and will not tolerate that their son may also have a gift. She's fighting an up hill battle with an angry, bully of an ex. Charlie also works on cold cases with local law enforcement and a handsome detective who has become a good friend. She may have met the man of her dreams quite by accident as well, but this guy seems to have secrets and a side job that could prove terrorizing. Enjoyed this one and look forward to the next!
This is the second book in the series, and it continues on from where book one left off- a couple of months or so later. Charlie is asked by her police friend Jason, to consult on a cold case about a missing girl, and later a new case with an apparent suicide with an unusual aspect or two. Her ex-husband is giving her grief too, and a new man is showing interest in her, so Charlie is a busy woman!
Charlie’s abilities get a good workout in this story, and although there is a slight taste of romance, it doesn’t get far because of a variety of other issues. There are some very interesting happenings in this book, and we learn quite a bit more about Charlie’s family. This one dips a lot deeper into the paranormal world, introducing some new paranormal types, and unveiling a few existing others.
It is an excellent paranormal mystery, and fans of the genre will be sure to enjoy it, and the suspenseful moments included within it!
The story starts with a woman impaled on an iron fence, apparently pushed off the roof of a house. There's more interacting with ghosts and, this time, confrontation with a reaper. Not something that is worth looking forward to.
There's also trouble with her ex-husband. Add one creepy guy in the forest and Charlie is off to a time of considerable difficulty.
She knows she needs to get Evan, her son, back and has a very good reason for doing so. There's the use of salt to keep evil spirits away. (The only thing I could find online about this is that there is something about the 'vibration' level of salt that repels ghosts, demons and so on.)
There's also a disguised reaper and a murderer.
There's a lot that goes on in this book and I feel it's well written, makes reasonable sense from a supernatural approach and how people with slightly different abilities can work together in handling a supernatural problem.
“ ‘Never tell a woman she looks tired. It’s just a pleasant way of saying she looks like crap.’ ”
🔀 linear timeline 👥 POV: multiple first person 🏎️ Pace: fast
💭 This story is told from the POV of Charlie and Jason. Charlie is a woman just trying to lead a normal life juggling her office job, shared custody with her ex and trying to help solve cold cases with Jason.
What I liked: - Ghost Whisperer meets Supernatural tv show vibes - Lovable main character - Vengeful spirits - A common thread among some of the cold cases of missing girls - Family of witches that are always there for each other 💕 - Tom and his family! I want so much more with them in the books to come - Fun and quick read
What I wasn’t a fan of: - The sorority stereotypes - I wish we learned a little bit more about Jen and Lisa’s abilities
This series is quickly becoming a spooky comfort read! This book made me laugh and gasp at some of the twists. This series does a great job of balancing supernatural elements with real world problems.
This is a fun series! I started out thinking I'd missed an installment or a short story between books 1 and 2, but I guess some things developed "off screen." I also thought the epilogue of book 1 ended with Charlie and Jason beginning a relationship and going slow, but I must be misremembering because there's none of that here.
Really liking the new character, Tom! I listened to the audiobook, so I imagined his last name must be spelled Charon. It seemed really obvious to me what he was as soon as the misunderstanding in the woods was cleared up. I mean, ALL the signs were there, and we didn't have any more information as the readers than these seasoned witches.
Charlie's ex is still the worst in a good chunk of this installment, and it's strongly hinted at that he has hit her in the past (though that's retconned later to just emotional abuse.) Things at least take a turn for the better at the end on that front, so there's that.
I loved this book, the whole book was an exciting climax. Nothing about this book was full or boring. I've read books that I've had to skip or just skim parts because they were dull, but this book and The Haunting of Charlie weren't like that at all. I was at the edge of my seat talking to the characters like you do when watching a movie on TV. I hope to see more of Tom and deputy, Jason another sweet hunk but a human one on top of that. I have already recommended this series to my daughter who lives to read, and will to anyone else who wants a good book, but if their looking for a book to put them to sleep at night this is not the book for them. Once you read them you can't do anything but think about the cousins their family friends and adventures.
The second book in the Witches of Palmetto Point series, we once again meet Charlie, and her charming family of psychics, magic users, and other. I quite enjoy that this still runs with the southern Gothic murder mystery theme, but have to say, they have a lot of serial killers in their small town, lol. We got to solve two disconnected mysteries with Charlie, both with their own twists and turns. I quite like the new lover interest Tom Sharon, but am still rooting for the first novel's main man Jason Tate. I also loved that we got to see some positive changes in Charlie's life, particularly where her son was concerned. The only thing I truly disliked was that we didn't really get a resolution for the Brianna storyline. Yes it's all wrapped up and things are pretty much fixed, but I wanted to know more.

I just discovered Wendy Wang yesterday. 2 books in as many days. I'm really enjoying this series. It's been such a long time that I've been able to be completely absorbed into a story.
Charlie is gaining confidence in her abilities, she still doesn't believe she's as gifted as her cousins. I enjoyed this book, the story lines were engaging and the character development was nicely paced. Tom! What a head f&$k that was. Did not see that coming! Well played Wendy! I felt like the event with Scott was a little convenient, but it worked, I guess. All's well that ends well.
My biggest irk with this book is the spelling of Macey is EY or just Y because throughout the book it's spelt both ways. If I weren't enjoying the book so much it would have been a deal breaker for me. I think more thorough editing needs happen.
But all in all I was very happy with the book. 3.75 stars.
