Ava's much older husband suddenly passed away. She can't keep living in his house and doesn't have anywhere to go. She needs to find herself a place to stay that isn't too expensive, that's why she moves to Willoughby Close. Ava doesn't have a big budget and her meagre inheritance only covers a few basics, so she needs a job. She doesn't have any work experience, she was a trophy wife. Her husband kept her on a short leash and she doesn't have any friends or family she can go to for help. Ava is on her own, but she won't be alone much longer because she's unexpectedly pregnant. Will the healing effect of Willoughby Close and the friendliness of the people who are already living there give Ava a chance at a better future?

When Jace, the caretaker of Willoughby Manor, meets Ava he immediately offers his help. Ava needs practical help with things like secondhand furniture, which he can provide, and she could use a friend. Ava keeps her distance from everyone, but slowly Jace manages to break down her walls. However, he doesn't want to get too close to anyone because he has something to hide. Is Jace ready to take a chance on Ava? They're both people who have done things they aren't proud of, will that give them a chance to form a bond?

Kiss Me at Willoughby Close is a wonderful story. I love that Kate Hewitt writes about two main characters who easily admit their flaws. Both Jace and Ava have done things they think they shouldn't have and they are actively trying to change and have a better future. I really liked that about them. Jace is kind to people and he tries to help whenever he can. Ava is a bit standoffish, because she's socially awkward. As soon as her neighbors realize she isn't arrogant, but just insecure, it's much easier for Ava to make friends. I loved how resilient she is. She's been dealt a bad hand in life, but Ava doesn't wallow. She's sad, but she's determined to keep going. She doesn't only have to fight for herself, but also for her unborn child and I loved how, even though she doesn't have much security, she's happy with the pregnancy and is going to make the best of it. Ava and Jace have fabulous multilayered personalities and it was interesting to read about them.

Willoughby Close is a heartwarming setting. I love reading about the inhabitants and equally enjoyed every story about this amazing place. Kate Hewitt's vivid descriptions are making her stories come to life incredibly well. Ava is another great addition to Willoughby Close and I loved finding out more about her. The welcoming atmosphere of the place is fabulous and I love how the people who are living there are starting to get very close. To me they are starting to feel like a chosen family more and more, which is another part of the story I liked a lot. Kiss Me at Willoughby Close is a terrific charming and romantic book.

After five years of marriage, Ava Mitchell has recently lost her husband, David, and has just learned that her stepchildren, Simon and Emma, are the beneficiaries of David’s will leaving her with a mere 10,000 pounds, her car, and her clothes. When she learns that the part time house cleaner was left the same amount, she is quite bitter. She cannot figure out why he has treated her like this. David was a very wealthy man and she thought they had a good marriage. Her stepchildren hated her simply for marrying their father and he never let Ava make any changes to the house. It must always stay like it was when his first wife was alive.

Ava has rented a small unit at Willoughby Close in Wychwood-on-Lea, the same town she has been living in. The units are on the estate property belonging to Lady Stokeley at Willoughby Manor. Jace Tucker, the caretaker, is a hunk and he generously lends her some furniture for her empty unit.

As Ava settles in and starts looking for a job, her neighbor asks her to drive Lady Stokeley into Oxford. The woman is undergoing cancer treatments. Ava sees that the Manor is unkempt and Lady Stokeley tells her that the money and house belong to her nephew, Henry Trent, who will inherit when she passes away. Ava likes the Lady and is happy to take the woman for her treatments. Her neighbors are friendly and helpful and Jace is a handsome man who has been very helpful. But he is hiding a secret which keeps him rather distant from Ava.

When Ava realizes she is pregnant with her dead husband’s child, she is happy but worried how she can afford to care for the baby and herself. What does the future hold for her?

This is a delightful book. I have not read the earlier books in the series but each one must be a stand-along novel which is great. Come to Willoughby Close and make some new friends.

My Thoughts :
I always get really excited when there is another Willoughby Close book released. So far none of the books in the series have dissapointed!. I love that every one focuses on a different member of the community. In this one we focus on newcomer Ava, who moves into the close after her husband passed away. We also get to delve more into the life of Jace, the caretaker of Willoughby. Jace has popped up alot throughout the whole series and I really like him so I was interested to learn more about him and what makes him tick. I think I was a little more invested in Jace than Ava as I have a little soft spot for him. The story certainly worked with both these charactors and it was nice seeing them come together and again ipen up to the possibility of love again.
Kate Hewitt has a way of drawing the reader in and captivating them with these stories. I really hope this isnt the last we see of the residents of Willoughby Close as this series has been by far one of my favourites and I would be sad to see the series come to a close.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I will definitely be looking for other books belonging to this series. It was one of those books that keeps you reading well into the night and bleary eyed the next day. Well you have to know the end of the story or you will be awake all night wondering anyway.
I am looking forward to more stories from this author. Highly recommended.

Ava never thought in a million years that, at the age of 35, she'd be where she is now. She married David who is a lot older than she is. David is a millionaire and Ava played her part as a trophy wife. Ava thought they loved each other, sort of. When David dies unexpectedly and leaves her with the same amount of money as the housekeeper Ava feels betrayed. His children always disliked her and want her out of the house as soon as possible. How will Ava manage to get back on her feet with no education or any real work experience?

Ava finds a cute and small cottage at Willoughby Close. She moves in at number 3 with her dog Zuzu. Ava has close to nothing, but luckily she gets help from the caretaker Jace, who supplies her with some much needed furniture. Now that she has found a place to live Ava has to start thinking about ways to make money. She has to find a job and she has to find it rather fast. This isn't the first time in her life that Ava has to start over, but then life throws her another curveball when she finds herself pregnant. Will Ava be able to make a fresh start and give her baby a promising future?

Ever since she was a young girl Ava learned to depend on nobody but herself. She's beautiful and did everything that was expected from her while she was married to David. Ava doesn't have friends or relatives to lean on and I felt for her pain and sadness. I hated the way David's children treat her like she was nothing and I felt proud about the way that Ava handles them. Ava finds it difficult to trust people and I loved to read about her neighbors, who still managed to become friends. Ava is a sweet and caring person when she lets her guard down. I laughed out loud when I read about her bantering with old Lady Stokely, who lives in the manor close to Willoughby Close. Ava is feisty and outspoken and she'll love unconditionally if she lets you in.

Kiss Me at Willoughby Close is the fourth book in the Willoughby Close series. I fell in love with these cozy little countryside cottages ever since I read Meet Me at Willoughby Close. Kate is a skilled writer and I'm having no trouble at all to picture Ava and her neighbors living at the beautiful and warm Willoughby Close. The place is magical and I was looking forward to be reading about Ava. I loved her story about learning to trust not only herself, but also others again. With Kiss Me at Willoughby Close, Kate Hewitt has written another brilliant story, which is a perfect addition to her wonderful series.

Even though this is the fourth book in the Willoughby Close series, it easily reads as a standalone.

Each house in Willoughby Close has it’s own story to tell with it’s new tenant. In this novel, we meet Ava, who is recently widowed and has found herself down on her luck. She has had to rely on herself for most of her life so finds it hard to open up to others. The other tenant’s in the close are of course lovely and welcoming but it’s Jace, the caretaker who very much has her attention. And mine!

Jace is your stereo typical rugged yet handsome, love interest who you are just dying to know more about. As with Ava, there are things in their pasts that they are reluctant to share which has them both holding back. I was dying for them to open up to each other as the chemistry between the pair was off the scale!

One of my favourite characters is Lady Stokeley, a fiercely independent old lady who lives in the manor house. She is someone that would probably scare me with her no nonsense attitude yet there is something very endearing about her also. She is both stubborn yet frail. The unlikely friendship between both her and Ava was so lovely to read.

Kiss Me at Willoughby Close is such a charming story that shows the kindness we can sometimes find in complete strangers. It also shows that whatever live throws at us, whilst it maybe harder to see, there can sometimes be a silver lining as it makes you evaluate what is really important in life. There is certainly a life lesson to be found within this story but more than anything it is filled with self discovery, new friendships and taking chances. Of course there is a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. Very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is the first book I have read in this series but I found it easy to read as a stand-alone.

Ava was married to a much older man, a millionaire, for five years. When her husband dies she finds out that he has left her a pittance in his will, the same amount as their new part-time cleaner, and his grown-up children waste no time in chucking her out of the family mansion. Ava moves into a cottage in Willoughby Close where she gets to know the other residents and the caretaker Jace. But for the first time Ava, a woman who has relied on her looks and charm for most of her life, is trying to stand on her own without a man to fix things. Can she find a job and make some friends?

I liked this but I felt there were a lot of loose ends that didn't get tied up (maybe fodder for the next book in the series) and the book ended very abruptly.

Excellent value for a kindle freebie, it was pleasant enough but didn't really have much of a plot.

I think the world would be a kinder planet if there were more places like Willoughby Close. It seems like every new resident is attempting to rebound from a deeper pit than the last. This time it's Ava, former trophy wife, now a widow left with next to nothing to live on and no currently marketable skills.
My heart was warmed as Harriet, Ellie, and Jace all pitched in with friendship and practical help to rebuild Ava's life, each showing in their own unique way that Ava was more capable than she thought. It gave me hope to see Ava gradually come out of her shell and loosen up around people, seizing opportunities for advancing her skills and to pay forward the kindness she had just so recently been shown. I thrilled as Ava choose the high road when confronted by her late husband's bullying and petulant adult children. And all the while, I loved the journey as I waited to see if Willoughby Close would work its magic and bring both emotional healing and love to Ava. I was not disappointed.

British clean romance. I picked this one up for free, and became engrossed. I certainly didn't expect to like the heroine, who is a self-professed trophy wife who has been widowed and left with very little money through her husband's will. I greatly enjoyed following along as she makes friends and a way for herself in a small English neighborhood. My only objection was that I didn't feel there was enough closure at the end of the book. Perhaps that is to get us to buy the next one :-).

A very nice book about a woman who has never really thought much of herself having to start over and figure her life out - I really enjoyed both Ava and Jace (and of course Lady Stokely).

I really liked this book, and look forward to finding the others in this series. Ava lost her husband and was kicked out of the house by his kids. Finding a place to go and learning to take care of herself instead of depending on someone else, leads to a lot of drama, and some fun times, too, as she lets other people in to her life.

Sacha's Book Reviews Blog

I liked the overall premise of this book, so I'll give it a solid 3 stars for effort... but honestly, I felt like the story just ran out of steam. Literally and figuratively.

The Pros & Cons
It's a women's fiction, so I took that in stride and set my expectations accordingly in terms of how much "relationship" to expect. In this case, not much. I've read various levels of "relationship" and "sex" in this genre (and I write both into my own "women's fiction/romance" series), but the point of the genre is the development of women, so I'll be fair in judging on that basis.

Here's what I DID like: I loved the characters of the village -- they each seemed to have their own story from the glimpses we see through Ava's story. I liked how Ava evolved from the beginning of the story as a self-centred trophy widow to a caring, nurturing person that even went the extra mile to help someone she barely knew who reminded her of herself, and then to make an effort to smooth things over with her late husband's daughter.

The female relationships are strong, sweet, and caring -- from the elderly Lady Stokeley in her 80s to the young Alice in her early 20s. All of this was beautifully done, and I could just imagine the maternity-clothes parade, the giggling ladies, the tea party; all of these -- truly lovely. This was all nicely done and brought a lot of colour and life to the reader's imagination.

My problem was the love interest, Jace. I liked that he had a dark past, and that he was not the typical "hero" -- this was AWESOME. More books need to have characters like this that aren't perfect. I was happy with him as a character, mind you. My issue was the relationship between him and Ava. Relationships need not be the focus in a women's fiction, sure. But the problem with this one was that it seemed like it would be... but then this didn't pay off.

If there was no guy at all, I'd have been okay with that. But having him there seemed like he was tossed in last-minute, at times, to fill some "there must be a man" quota. I've complained about books with way too much sex (to the level of gratuitous!) but I really wish this one had a *bit* more steam. Not sex, necessarily. Just steam. Something. Anything beyond friendship that blooms into a sudden love declaration from seemingly nowhere!

Conclusion
Sigh. There was potential for this book to do more for me, but I did enjoy it for the most part. I would perhaps read on to learn more about the other women of Willoughby -- I just prefer if the men were kept out of it entirely so the focus wouldn't stray from the beauty of the female relationships.

"Kiss Me at Willoughby Close" is the fourth part in the series and it introduces us to Ava - of course, we've already got a chance to cursorily get to know her in the previous part and - as usually - the first impression was not too optimistic and encouraging, but the author has already got us used to the fact that at first the new characters seem to be not likeable and then explaining their circumstances, which usually make us change our mind about them - and it was the same here with Ava - she's starting afresh, Willoughby Close is her second chance. I'd say you can read this novel as a stand alone, of course, but I think that there is now too much insider info to really get into the heart of the story without reading the previous parts, and I would recommend reading the stories in the right order.

Each part of Willoughby Close focuses on a new character, however "Kiss Me at Willoughby Close" introduces us not only to Ava, but also brings us much, much more of the mysterious caretaker Jace and gives us a lot of insight into Lady Stokeley's life - which I found really brilliant, as I think that adding all of them, as well as Alice later on, made the story this little bit more interesting. I think that dedicating this novel only to Ava would make it too one - dimensional, so it was really a great move from the author - highly appreciated :)

Ava moves to Willoughby Close after just having lost her husband. He was much older than her and she admits that she was more of a trophy wife but that she married him being aware of this fact. She has experienced a lot in her life and she just wanted to live comfortably, without any troubles and problems any more. However, after his death, she realised that she was nothing more to her husband as the trophy wife, and she learns it in a very painful way, seeing that he has left her the same amount of money in his will as he left to their cleaner - ten thousand pounds.

As much as I liked Ava, it was Jace's story that stole the show in my opinion. This time we really get to know him and his background, what happened in the past and why he ended up in Willoughby Close. While it was not life - changing, it added some pepper and the way Ava reacted to this story made her this lit bit more human, so it was a win - win situation really.
There were not many twists and turns in this book, and I often found myself skim - reading. It was a little on the flat side, but it was still a story that is easy to enjoy. It was about being open and about second chances, about not judging and always seeing two sides of the story. There is a convincing romance, troubles in paradise and Kate Hewitt has a real way with words, having created a lovely fictional community that I have no problems to picture. Already looking forward to the next part in the series.

Although my reaction to this series has sometimes been a little lukewarm, I couldn’t pass up the chance to find out more about the mysterious caretaker, Jace. Which is a good thing, because this book is definitely my favourite of the series so far, even if it did leave several loose ends hanging to be hopefully tied up in the final book.

Ava made a brief appearance in the last book (Find Me At Willoughby Close) as the glamorous, but slightly stand-offish new neighbour at the Close. Now we find out why exactly she wasn’t so keen to meet the neighbours – and I don’t blame her. Her situation at the start is such a slap in the face that I was instantly on her side, even if she does come across as prickly and a bit abrasive at first.

Because Ava is a survivor. She’s been through some rough patches in life and weathered them in whatever way she could. Constantly judged on her looks alone, she’s created a front against the world, which means she’s not easy to get to know. But as the book progresses and she forms proper friendships for the first time, the real Ava is finally allowed to emerge and reveals herself to be a pretty decent, caring woman who was easy to like.

Her relationships with Jace and Dorothy brought out the best in her. Both are similar to Ava in different ways and neither allow her to get away with any masks. I loved how Ava came to care for Dorothy and the strange friendship they formed.

However, it’s her relationship with Jace that forms the core of the book. Sometimes flirty, sometimes just friends, but always with a bubbling of more going on beneath the surface. It was great to finally learn Jace’s story and see what made him tick. I also loved how he saw Ava and how supportive he was of pretty much everything she tried to do. For a shadowy figure touched with arrogance over his good looks, Jace turned out to be pretty wonderful.

In all, I really enjoyed this one. Ava has a lot of growing to do, but thanks to her new friends and Jace, her journey is a positive one. I did, however, feel like the ending was a little rushed. There is so much that needs to be tied up in the last chapter that it, unsurprisingly, doesn’t all get done. Despite how far both Ava and Jace have come, some things are left in a fairly precarious state at the end, creating a definite sense of HFN rather than HEA. However, with one more book to go, it looks like we’ll be getting all the answers soon. I can’t wait to read Henry’s story.

This is number four in the series and I've been enjoying this little foray into semi-rural England. To remind you, the series is set in a mini-estate built on manor land owned by Henry but at present the manor houses his aunt, Lady Stoneley, who is a childless widow.

Each story deals with the residents of the four houses in Willoughby Close. Which kind of doesn't add up because the first story dealt with the builder, now we have the third resident, so I'm not sure whether there is a fourth resident because the final book deals with someone I assumed was living in at the manor...but maybe not. We shall see.

Getting back to this story. Ava is very much the kind of woman you more often see as the Other Woman in romance. She is recently widowed in her mid-thirties, her elderly husband dying of a heart attack on the gold course and leaving her only a token in his will. Which is what brings her to Willoughby Close with nothing more than her fashionable, too tight clothes, a funky little red car and a handbag dog.

Jase is the caretaker of the manor grounds and therefore responsible for handling the enclave at Willoughby Close. He's a little too good looking with a touch of bad boy. Yet Ava finds him very kind. She is used to masculine interest, but any help has always come with strings.

These are two damaged people with pasts that are a little shady and perhaps not very estimable. But they are essential good people who are the results of their upbringing. This is actually a very sweet romance with more about the relationship than the sizzling attraction. Ava has a lot to deal with including an unexpected pregnancy.

The story is not just about Jace and Ava, but about friendships and how they can bring healing and hope into a life otherwise empty. The other characters are largely those we've met in previous episodes and there is a slight time overlap between the books.

I'm enjoying this series very much. Not something I usually read but I have read other stories by the author and picked these up on Netgalley for independent review. I look forward to the final one in the series dealing with Henry and Alice.

Looking at the cover, you might think that this book would be a relatively light read. However, the author gives the two main characters rather tragic pasts, and I think that darkness actually made me appreciate the romance and its happy ending much more than if the book had been the fluffy read promised by the cover.

As the book begins, Ava learns that her recently deceased much older multimillionaire husband has left her just 10,000 pounds, the same amount he gave their housekeeper. Her husband’s cavalier dismissal of their five years of marriage leaves Ava stunned and questioning the choices she’s made. Then life throws her another curveball when she finds out that she’s pregnant. Ultimately, Ava has to decide whether to live as she’s always done or if it’s time to make some changes in how she approaches the world and the people around her.

Ava is a bit difficult to like at first, in her determination to look after herself first and her rudeness toward other people who might want to befriend her. She clearly made the choice to be a trophy wife, which makes her seem selfish and self-serving. As her sad background is revealed, though, it becomes apparent that Ava is a damaged person with reasons for the way she acts. The author does a great job of stripping away Ava’s layers and allowing her to grow and develop as a person throughout the course of the book.

I also liked that the author doesn’t make Ava’s love interest a typical knight in shining armor. Jace is a caring person who supports Ava, but he also has a very dark past that would cause many women to shy away from him. He and Ava are both struggling to overcome their separate tragedies, and they provide each other the emotional support both of them need to move forward.

When I started reading, I didn’t realize that this book is part of a series. Based on how much I enjoyed this book, I’m definitely going to be checking out the next in the series, and I may go back and pick up some of the previous ones, too.

Welcome to Willoughby close a cluster of gorgeous cottages. Each with people with stories of their own, and each wishing for their own happily ever afters.

Anna's husband of 5 years has suddenly died. His will left everything to his spoilt, selfish and unkind children. While Anna is simply left with her designer clothes, some costume jewellery, her car, their dog zuzu and the same amount of money that he left the cleaner. £10,000. Which would be a lot if money. If he hadn't have been a billionaire.

Anna finds herself in quite a predicament. Only 1 week to find a house to live in and only £10,000 to live off and furnish the house until she can get herself a job, and finding out she is unexpectedly pregnant just adds more worries.

Thankfully Jace comes to her rescue on more than one occasion.

Determined to keep herself to herself and to keep herself above water. Anna tries to get be as upbeat as possible. But finds that keeping herself to herself in Willoughby close is harder then it seems.

Soon Anna finds herself changing from the uncaring, pentup glamour girl of the past. Starting to let down her walls and to let people in. Anna begins to hope for the future and soon realises that she is not on her own.

This is a really lovely book. One that you can easily while away time and escape from the horrific events happening around the world at the moment. This book offers light relief, romance, happiness and hope. If everyone could be as nice as the residents of Willoughby close then perhaps the world would be a better place.

I loved this book and if you love romance and chicklit then this book is definitely for you.

Happy reading and as always let me know what you think of the book.

When life doesn’t turn out as you planned, you learn to make the best of it.

Ava Mitchell gets the shock of a lifetime when her millionaire husband of five years suddenly passes away and all he left Ava was a small inheritance. Her husband’s two snobby grown children got the rest. Now Ava has to face the reality of starting her life over again. Having struggled all of her life, she knows how to survive. The first step is finding a place to live.

Ava chose Willoughby Close, the old stables of Willoughby Manor which have been converted into apartments as her new home. But Ava doesn’t realize at the time her life is about to change dramatically. Ava is not used to having close friends or socializing, but the women who live in the other apartments want to be friends. Soon, Ava realizes she will need them more than she realized when she finds out she is pregnant.

Jace Tucker started working at Willoughby Close as a groundskeeper when he got out of prison. He enjoys his work and helping out any way he can. He is also more than happy to help the new tenant when he finds out she doesn’t own anything other than what she was able to fit into her car. Jace and Ava hit it off good and become good friends and eventually develop feelings for each other.

I enjoyed this story as much as the rest of the series. I really liked Jace and Ava and catching up with the characters from the previous books was fun. I love the quirky Lady Stokeley of Willoughby Manor. She is a fun old lady who is battling cancer but has been trying to hide it from most people. If you read this series, I would recommend starting at the beginning because her story runs throughout the series.

Kiss Me at Willoughby Close is the fourth in the series but can easily be read as a standalone, I didn't actually realize it was part of a series until I had finished the book. The synopsis of the book really had be interested so I was excited when my request on Netgalley got improved. I have to say it still wasn't completely what I was expecting, in a good way though. I immediately liked Ava as a character, she is dealt a rough hand right at the start of the book, she still managed to keep herself together (for the most part) and at least attempted to carry on with her life. I do tend to get annoyed if all they do is mope after something happened which is probably unfair of me as I bet I wouldn't do half as well as most the characters I read about. She also went through a lot of personal growth throughout the book which is always good to see. Jace was a surprise, although he is the perfect gentlemen (again for the most part) throughout the book, his histories and secrets did surprise me, I didn't fell as though we got to see as much growth from him but I guess as more of a secondary character it wasn't necessary. The plot itself is relatively simple and the story felt quite short, I'm not sure if perhaps I have been reading longer books lately or if there just wasn't all that much happening. Either way it was a great enjoyable read and I would definitely recommend as a relaxing summer read. I will definitely be on the look out for the release in the next in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Wiloughby Close has become a place for second chances and, if anyone needed one it's Ava. She though she had, if not perfect, a secure life with her much older husband. When he dies, leaving her to fend for herself, she has to finds herself at Willoughby Close surrounded for the first time by people who are interested in her as a person. She starts to find that she is more than her past or her looks.
Jace Tucker knows what it's like to have a past that you aren't proud of. He also knows what it's like to need a friend, someone who can be there without asking for anything in return.
When Ava finds she is pregnant, she refuses to subject herself to her step-children's anger and scrutiny, determined to make a life for her child without relying on anyone else.
I love the way Willoughby Close has offered a second chance to all of its residents, and Ava finds herself becoming a part of friendships and a community. Hewitt does a wonderful job of creating characters that are flawed but are people you can root for.
This was another great read that I could not put down. I highly recommend it. If you haven't read the first books in the series, you won't be lost but you will miss out on some engaging stories and characters.

Book 4 of the Willoughby Close Series, Kate Hewitt gives us Jace’s HEA in Kiss Me at Willoughby Close. He has popped up several times as a minor character in the previous books. I was thrilled to see him have his own story.

A likable flirt, there was sure to be more to him than he showed the residents of Willoughby Close. Kate Hewitt did a marvelous writing job of fleshing him out, making him real so that you had to love him. Then she paired him with the most unusual candidate, a woman in transition like the others but whose hurt is not the obvious. Transition for Ms. Hewitt’s characters always has elements of uncertainty, fear and insecurities. None more so than Ava. My heart just went out for her. However, I counted on the magic of Willoughby Close working for her but it also works for Jace too.

This series is more relaxed paced than action packed, just like real life. For fans of contemporary romance who enjoy reading of women who navigate the rough waters of life, then adding a little romantic happiness too will loved this story and the entire series.

4.5 Stars
An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.

Trophy wife Ava finds herself homeless with only £10,000, her clothing, Zuzu the dog and her red mini, when her husband dies on the golf course. He leaves everything to his two adult children who hate Ava.

Ava moves into a cottage at Willoughby Close and attempts to keep herself to herself, but quickly learns being lonely is not so good and soon becomes friends with the neighbours and Jace the caretaker/handyman.

Being practical, Ava realises that she needs to work as the £10,000 left to her is going down quickly on everyday living expenses. But having not worked for many years her temping skills are dated so she takes up a job at the local pub which turns out to be difficult when she realises she is pregnant with her late husbands baby.

Ava becomes friends with Lady Dorothy Stokely, driving her to the chemo appointments at the local hospital. An unusual friendship that blossoms in a similar way to the one she has with Jace Tucker.

I absolutely loved this book. Like the others in the series, I have been gripped by it and look forward to reading the follow up realeased later this year called "Marry Me At Willoughby Close".

I was drawn into the story from the beginning and enjoyed meeting Ava, the newest inhabitant of the Close. I particularly appreciate how characters are mentioned in one book and then focussed on in a subsequent book. I have a soft spot for interconnected short stories where details run through the stories or characters appear in each as this seems to give the impression that you are looking at a community from 360 degrees. For me, these stories have the same effect.

Lady Stokeley at Willoughby Manor is one of the most intriguing characters and I am hoping that the last in the series features her heavily. Cantankerous but fiercely independent, you get the impression that she is a great observer of human nature and no matter how hard she tries to hide behind a veneer of being a difficult old lady, she is in fact a caring person with lashings of common sense.

In short: warm, engaging, with deftly drawn characters and a well plotted story.
Thanks to Kate Hewitt, Tule Publishing and Jenny at Neverland Tours for a copy of the book and a place on the Tour.

It was a sweet and charming story about a widow looking for a clean slate but afraid to trust people. And finally, the handyman/groundskeeper of Willoughby Close, Jace Tucker, had snagged himself quite a catch; if only she'd look her way.

I love the slow and burning romance between Ava Mitchell and Jace, it was a bit consuming on Ava's end because she wasn't that trusting and believing in other people after she'd been tagged as a gold digger by her stepchildren and had been ranked same with his late husband's housekeeper. Yeah, her insecurities almost sucked out her life so I couldn't blame the other tenants when they touted her as arrogant and quite full of herself. Eventually though, an olive branch was extended and Ava slowly picked up her life. Jace Tucker was definitely the man for him.

I am enjoying the Willoughby Close series and I can't wait to read the next one! Kate Hewitt spins tales that are highly dramatic but also sweet and hot and fun to read! The kiss at the end is definitely worth it!

Ava had been married for 5 years to a man quite a lot older and with loads of money and she was definitely a trophy wife. This is obviously his view as well as on his death he only leaves her £10000, the same as the cleaner, and the rest of his fortune goes to his two children by a previous marriage.

Homeless Ava has to try and find somewhere to live and the only place available is a cottage in Willoughby Close. Ava has never really had any friends having had a difficult childhood and so is unsure how to treat her new neighbours who seem to be making overtures of friendship and then there is Jace, the extremely hunky caretaker who seems to be very keen to help her out, but is he hiding as many secrets as she is herself? Can Willoughby Close weave its magic on another unhappy resident?

Lovely to be back with all the old characters - these books have a great feel good factor and are perfect light summer reading
