A Sheriff's Passion

Rate this book
Shane McCall has dedicated his life to rising above the smear his father put on his last name. As sheriff of Marietta, Montana, his reputation is finally above reproach and he aims to keep it that way. A difficult task made impossible since he made the mistake of kissing Silver Adams. Courting a saloon owner is not Shane’s idea of respectability, but when his brother comes to town and turns her head, Shane realizes the only arms Silver belongs in are his.

Silver Adams has stared down many challenges, but when she moves to Montana, she finally has independence and a sense of pride. With her close circle of friends and a successful saloon, the only thing missing from her life is love. When Silver finds everything she has been looking for in the arms of an upstanding lawman, she feels her dreams have come true until her disreputable past threatens all Silver holds dear, and now Silver must make the hardest decision of her life—telling Shane the truth.

Story of a woman who rose from poverty to the owner of a saloon. The sheriff finds her fascinating but she would tarnish the reputation he’s built for himself. It makes for an odd relationship until the sheriff’s brother comes to town and starts paying attention to the saloon owner.

Avid fans of western romance drama may really end up enjoying this one. It certainly was sweet to see these two destined love birds to finally get to ride off into the sunset. As an equally avid true romantic at heart, I must confess though there were some things about this story that stuck in my craw. Sorry for the western euphemism, folks, but it just seemed to fit.

Shane, the upstanding sheriff hero, was a little too much on his high horse at times for my taste. Yeah, I get the reasons that were prompting him to prove to the world he was definitely a better man than his no account, deceased, Daddy Dearest. But living in denial about his feelings for Silver, the heroine, for so l-o-n-g ended up basically shooting himself in the foot, caused her unnecessary heartache, and another decent OW tears, as well. In fact, if he had manned up early on, chances were Silver would have shared her “stopped him dead in his tracks to the point he pushed her away” dirty secret long before it caused him to question her character. Yes, there lies another problem. I’m sorry to say this guy didn’t stand by his woman. After the blood and bullets start to fly though, he does come to his senses and sets to make things right.

Silver was pretty cool in my eyes. Well, except for the explanation she finally owned up to regarding her past. Honestly, I’m conflicted how I felt about that. I lean towards shaking my finger and head at her to let her know she shouldn’t have done what she did in the first place. I liked the fact she ran a saloon and not a brothel though. You see, this blonde beauty ran a respectful watering hole, even if others assumed otherwise. She peddled booze, not hanky panky. If I could high five her for that classy choice, I honestly would.

Mitch, the black sheep brother, played his role perfectly. But between you and me, I’m thinking he needs more of a rebel of a woman than the one I highly suspect he’s going to wind up with in the next book. That missy there, well, she just cries too often and at the drop of a hat, IMHO.

With a tad too much drama in Silver’s past and stereotypical outlaw bandit predictability, I now find myself wringing my hands wondering how to fairly rate this book. My heart is still a little sore at Shane for being such a yellow belly about choosing what he wanted over what people might think. He also said some mighty hurtful things to her, as well. Silver seemed awfully quick to up and forgive him, too.

So I’ll just leave my final comment stating if standard western romance is your thing, you’ll likely want to check into this book. Since I haven’t read the first two books in this series, I’m not sure about them. I must confess the storylines didn’t appeal to me or catch my attention the way this one did, however, so I’ll likely skip them.

Though western romance is not my usual genre, I do dabble in it from time to time. So maybe that makes me more objective or harder to please. I’m not sure which. Well, now I’m just confusing myself, so it is definitely time to end this review. Here’s to hoping I’ve somehow helped you decide if this book is a good fit for you.

A Sheriff's Passion is the third book in Michelle Beattie's Frontier Montana series, which is set at the close of the nineteenth century. It works equally well as part of the series or as a stand-alone, though I've read snd enjoyed the first two books as well and recommend that option.
This story takes us back to the early days of the tiny town of Marietta and pits saloon owner Silver Adams against Sheriff Sean McCall. Both had unbelievably difficult circumstances in their past which made them into the people they are in this story, though each took a different path and Silver is not proud of the route she took. The secret eats away at her, making her fearful that when Shane discovers he'll loathe her.
This story is fast paced, mostly light and with some nice plot twists along the way. The characters are well developed and easy to relate to. Well worth picking up particularly if your passion is historical western romance.

I had been waiting through the first two books for Shane and Silver to finally get their story, and I wasn't disappointed.
This story had me in tears and on the edge of my seat at times. There certainly wasn't anything simple about Shane and Silver's relationship, especially when Silver's secret past comes in to play. Their passion certainly had me cheering for a happy ending.
I really like how all of the stories have shown the drama, good and bad, that small town Marietta faced, and the friendships and small-town camaraderie that we've come to expect from Marietta.
All of the characters were wonderful.

A Sheriff's Passion by Michelle Beattie is a historical western romance. Ms. Beattie has delivered a well-written book and filled it with fantastic characters. Silver arrived in Marietta and got busy turning a bar into a saloon. Shane is sheriff of Marietta. Both are weighed down with baggage from their past. Shane and Silver's story is loaded with drama, action, suspense and sizzle. I enjoyed reading A Sheriff's Passion and will happily read more from Michelle Beattie in the future. A Sheriff's Passion is book 3 of the Frontier Montana Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

This is the fist book i have read by this author.

It was't until I got to the end of the story, that I found out this was book #3 in the Frontier
Montana series.

I will definitely be looking for the first two books.

This was a book that I could not put down. Loved the characters - Silver and Shane.

Would love to travel though Montana? Maybe on our next road trip.

Shane is the Sheriff in a small town called Marietta and Silver is a newcomer to the town
who is the owner of a saloon that she built from a barn.

On to look for book #1 called "A Rancher's Surrender" Don't usually read series out of sequence
but this book #3 was so good - have read the previous 2 books.

Though the love story was good and had built for a while(I've not read the first 2), it was far far far, too repetitive. No less than 6 times before Shane and Silver get together, does Shane go through "why I can't be with Silver" or "I will eventually fall for Maddie?" forgot her name.
If Michelle Beattle had used the repetitive words to the end and expanded the climax, which is a whimper rather than a bang. Most of it happens off-screen, so to speak, it may have gotten another star.
The murder mystery was a bit of an afterthought in the book. It's the strong B story and needed more attention, instead of another rendition of "Oh my reputationml

Frontier Montana Series

a wonderful read I loved Silver's character a strong women who would die for her man sassy loving determined and caring yet vulnerable every women has a weakness. Shane was difficult and stubborn yet Silver craved him, he on the other hand wanted respectability so word turn a blind eye to his attraction to her, I loved it as the story unfolded more and more problems for Shane and Silver arose. I would recommend this series to everyone it's was a pleasure to read and left me wanting ting more.

Shane is the Sheriff of the town that he grew up in. His childhood and his family were not well regarded in the community and Shane has worked hard to overcome the reputation.

Silver owns a saloon and while Shane finds her attractive he can not act on his feelings as a saloon owner is not a reputable job for a woman to have.

Shane's brother comes into town and forces Shane to consider his feelings for Silver but when she tells him a secret from her past he may not want to have anything to do with her again.

This is the 3rd book of a 5 book Series but each book can be read as a standalone. Shane is the Sheriff of Marietta Montana in the late 1800s. When Silver first came to town she bought an old barn across from the only Saloon (really a brothel) in town. She worked day and night doing a lot of the work or supervising what she had to hire out. She turned that barn into a place of beauty. SILVER'S SALOON and hers isnt a brothel. When Shane looks at Silver and Silver looks back the air crackles with electricity. Shane wont do anything about it tho because what will the towns people think??
There is the dilemma of the book..
Good read, enjoyable.

Silver

This was a very well written book by Michelle Beattie and I really enjoyed reading it. A sheriff, a saloon owner, love, wanting respect, a unexpected kiss, a auction, a gambler brother, a unwanted suit, lots of friends, a broke heart, realizing love is worth more, admitting to love, recognizing family, an outlaw family, coming to get her, admitting the truth, heartbreak and so much more. Will there be a happy ever after? I would recommend this book to everyone. Buy this book and read what happens. Enjoy reading.

Shane McCall is a tough as nails lawman in Montana. He's immediately smitten by Silver Adams when she comes into town and begins building a saloon. He's drawn to her but afraid if he lets on about his feelings that his reputation will be ruined. Silver has a bit of a past that she's looking to repent for. This story has great characters and a story line about second chances, redemption and love. When you combine that with a little mystery you have a 5 star read!

A Sheriff's Passion ( A Frontier Montana Series Book 3)

A very interesting book. The author wrote a fascinating story. It showed how people can overcome all the obstacles that life will bring. To take a chance on starting over a new life in new territory. Overcoming a life of poverty to make a choice whether to become a thief or make a choice to establish a career and work hard at it to become an upright citizen. And attract the number One citizen, the Sheriff.

Respect vs Desire, Love

Story was enjoyable. Conflict between heroine & hero was good, along with conflict between the 2 McCall brothers. A few grammar errors with some sentences I had to read 2 or 3 times to understand. I wasn't sure title fit the story, but guess title could apply to hero's work ethic. A few places story seemed to repeat itself. I do look forward to reading other books in this series.

A Sheriff's Passion

I love this series. Each book can be read as a standalone but characters do pop up. Silver has been in love with Shane for years. Shane ignored the feelings he had for Silver, she owned a saloon and he was the sheriff. People would talk. When Silver decides to move on, Shane decides he wants her.

Great

Silver and Shanes story.
He wanted to prove to to towns folk that he was a good citizen.
I loved the spunk between the of them, when she stuck up for herself.
I loved the characters in the book.
They had major chemistry between them.
His pride got in the way quite a bit.
Thank God. I loved how it turned out.

I really enjoyed this book and found it hard to put down. I would have given it 4 1/2 stars because of some editing problems (word missing, or misplaced, or wrong word, etc.), but I loved the story and would recomend it to anyone who enjoys historical (western) romance with suspense. This book had it all and I loved the characters.

A new start, new friends, and a secret past

Real love forgives. Sometimes, the past catches up, especially a terrible past. But will it ruin the future? Her future? It was a tear jerker for me, as well for her

Enjoyable read.

Once started hard to put it down. Although predictable, at the plot & some of the characters. Good to explain what people do to overcome their past. Makes them the person's they become.

Slow Moving

I had a difficult time to stay interested. I almost gave up several times. This wasnt a strong story, in my opinion. It was never clarified why Mitch returned. I did have to laugh hearing that 2 weeks post waking up in the end Silver was up and about in those days!

Love in the Wild West

A small town, a sheriff, a hardworking but barely respectable woman. Secrets, love, friendship and honor. In this book, the author puts these elements together in a fresh and thoroughly enjoyable fashion.

Intense Read

I liked this book for the emotional ups and downs of the main characters, the blinding stupidity of the sheriff not admitting what was REALLY important. Well written, easy read. Will be getting books 2 & 3. Like this author!
