Nothing particularly bad or good about this one. Meh-ehh.
Trite
This story follows the typical college romance troupe - hot man-ho jock with a massive cock meets virgin nerd who's secretly a beautiful nympho waiting to be pulled out of her uptight shell.
Fine enough, if the subplots, characters, something, anything distinguishes the book from the hordes of sports romances before it.
Never found anything unique or memorable about any of it.
Mama And The Bad Guy Should've Stayed Home!
The MMC's farm mom came multiple times to his parties to "visit" , cook, and give love advice for him and his teammates WHILE they throw wild ass parties with naked college kids running amuck. Mama even sets one of his party girls off on one of his teammates so he wouldn't be tempted while he was mad with the FMC. Mama should've stayed at home and had these mama/son convos ON THE PHONE!
Likewise, what college football coach would see a girl getting felt up (boob squeeze) by one of his players and immediately have this reaction - kick the player off his team and call the cops to have him arrested for assault? Don't get me wrong the player was a jerk, but I find it hard to believe the coach would call that assault & end the player's college and potential professional life. The cops recommending a restraining order for grabbing her boob.. Also not likely. This bad guy should've stayed his ass at home.
Wash, Rinse, Repeat
Both characters have a one track mind.
For 80-90% of the book, he thinks about 1) his dick 2) her vagina 3) how to put both to use without a getting caught in a relationship.
Meanwhile, she thinks about 1) his dick 2) him being a dick 3) her virgin vagina wanting his dick 4) getting caught wanting the dick's dick.
Occasional school work thought, football mention, mom advice, cock bouquet, and BFF banter. And, a couple of pages are devoted to a creepy teammate who causes trouble for no apparent reason other than to serve as the catalyst to move the fuck buddy thing into a relationship status with hearts.
Where is the meat, author? ... And no, his dick doesn't count!
Foreplay
Foreplay, Foreplay, and more Foreplay. << That's actually well written and pretty hot considering it's all vanilla kinda run of the mill happenings. The two do have a thing about getting down and dirty in places where they could be caught .
After they have sex, it kinda gets repetitive and too often for my taste... I'd have preferred more time and energy toward the substance of the relationship.
Chapter 47 & 48 Jump
Chapters 1-46 occur the summer before his senior year of college. She's a grad student and has several years left of school. So basically the book timeline is a couple months where they fight lust, give in to lust, and eventually realize it's all more than lust. Chapter 46 ends with them admitting love and entering a relationship.
Chapter 47 then jumps NINE YEARS later when they are married, he's in the NFL, and they have two kids.
Wtf?!?
I feel like the actual tests and important moments of their relationship, the meat of a romance, was totally SKIPPED.
Nothing on his NFL draft, how they survived her still being in school when he drafted, how they got married, how they had kids, etc.
I'd rather a HEAFN (which I hate) than a diary entry into a couple months of someone's life followed by a two-chapter synopsis on the decade long HEA, over half of which was comprised of a sex scene.
Bottom Line
2 1/2 it is what it is stars.
• Writing is fine enough.
• There's nothing special or standout about the plot or characters.
• A few plot points were forced, like the mom, and just didn't fit into the story.
• Aside from him meeting the FMC as he has a handful of some random and nameless jersey chaser's ass, there are NO
OW or OM scenes, which I always appreciate. Thank you!
• Endless amounts of sexual scenes.
• Virgin FMC.
Recommend for those that are looking for footballer/nerd lust with a HEA vs plot and character development and substance.
