The world knows Candace Payne as “Chewbacca Mom,” the wife and mother of two from Dallas who captured the hearts of nearly 200 million people around the world with nothing but a toy Chewbacca mask, a smart phone, and infectious laughter.
Candace’s viral moment of simple joy became Facebook Live’s top video. But what the video doesn’t show is Candace’s storied journey of daunting obstacles on the way to the joy-filled life—extreme poverty, past trauma, and struggles with self-worth.
Laugh It Up! tells the rest of the story behind the woman in the mask. Like most of us, Candace has often felt overlooked, undervalued, and insignificant. But she has also discovered the secrets to unshakable joy that no circumstance can take away, and Laugh It Up! will help you discover and experience the same.
Join Candace to discover the gift God has given us all to experience life to the fullest. All you need to do is answer “yes” when joy, whom Candace personifies as a friend, calls you to come and play.
Do you feel tempted to give up on your dreams? Joy stays the course. Do your knees knock when thinking about the future? Joy hopes for what can be. Do you feel unseen and unnoticed? Joy is content whether backstage or center stage. Do you feel crushed under the weight of regret? Joy loves you enough to weep with you, but also enough to help you move on. When life punches you in the gut, it can be difficult to muster a smile—much less a laugh. But with humor and power, wit and wisdom, Candace lights the way forward to a life that is free indeed.
If you were one of the millions of people who watched this Texas Mom’s viral video and found yourself catching an endorphin high while laughing along with the woman in the Chewbacca mask, then you ought to give “Laugh it Up!” a read. In her inspirational self-help book, Candace Payne motivates readers to not give up on Joy, with a capital ‘J.’ Candace hasn’t always been full of laughs, and has learned to fight for Joy. In this relatable memoir, she shares her secrets for turning some of her darkest moments into new-found freedom.
In the day and age of Facebook perfectionism, it is refreshing to read about a woman who refuses to be defined by the moments in her life. Candace opens up about her struggles with self-acceptance, poverty, and depression, and shares with readers how to find Joy when it seems all is lost.
I was shocked to find how much I had in common with the Chewbacca Mom! I laughed, I cried, had goose bumps, and immediately told 5 people to read this book. -Caitlin D.
I expected with the title "Laugh it UP" that i would find something to laugh at in this book. That is what I was looking for and that isn't what this book was about. To be fair, I did not read the books description, so that is on me. This book kind if falls in between a celebrity bio (although she's not much of a celebrity) and a "self help" book (but she doesn't have a background for self help), and while I do enjoy both genres, this book was like listening to one of your screwed up friends talking about how she got her shit together. You're glad for her, you cheer her on, but since she's not actually a friend you don't care and the advice doesn't really apply to you. That said there were a couple of pearls that hit home for me:
1. A heart full of joy doesn't fear correction, it welcomes it because correction offers the opportunity to grow
2. Have a heart that isn't easily offended.
It's not a terrible book. I just think, there are better and more interesting books depending on what you are looking for.
I really enjoyed this book and learning some Interesting things about Candace. So many things resonated with me. I laughed and cried. Great job Candace.
This author is a woman who won instant success after posting a live video for her friends on Facebook. She had no idea that before the night ended after her post that she'd have a million views. And when she woke up the next morning she had over 24 million views and about 15 or so TV shows that message or called her. She had gone super viral and even broke the Guinness Record for the most views in such a short time.
I went to see Candace Payne on Friday night, March 15, for my daughter's birthday at a church I attend. I knew she was a Christian comedian, but that's all I knew or assumed. I had NO idea that she was the viral sensation, Chewbacca Mom! My daughter got a free signed book because it was her birthday; I bought her book for $10. I also got the audio version and ended up solely listening to the audio version due to my circumstances.
I was very encouraged by her book. She spoke about simple joy, shame and letting go of it as joy and shame do not co-exist, and also the voice of comparison and how we simply cannot compare ourselves to others because we always lose. We're our own worst enemy. I loved the history of her relationship with her husband and how they have worked through some tough times, harsh words, and learned to not say "never" but rather to say "always."
She does her own reading of the book, so it's very natural and you literally feel like she is right there just talking to you, using real emphasis at the right places, natural laughter that's not forced, and it is just so easy and enjoyable to listen to her.
Evidently she had an issue with weight where she weighed well over 300 pounds, and she goes into that and how she dealt with that and with self-esteem issues. There's a wealth of topics and she addresses them simply, candidly, and with vision.
Recommendation: Please read this book! It'll make you laugh, encourage you, and you'll learn the importance of knowing that just because things don't happen within your time frame (quickly), doesn't mean they won't happen so never, ever give up!
This was a book I received from a Christian subscription I was gifted years ago. As I have been working through our old shelves to clear out the old books, this one came up next. This book was sort of a let down for me. I didn’t hate it though!
I liked some of what Candace had to say. She did make some good points. I also enjoyed learning more about Candace’s story as I remember seeing her viral Chewbacca mask video back in the day!
This book was marketed as a Christian Living book. I take a couple issues with that. First, to me it read like a memoir. Second, it seemed to me this book was written with a non-Christian in mind, even though it was marketed to Christians. There was no Christian sources cited, not to mention the Bible, and those are the things I look for in a Christian Non-fiction, claiming to help me grow. For example, the Bible was quoted 2 times in the whole book. That is not enough for me to take any of her statements as truth. I need the Biblical evidence provided to me to show me how she got there. This is why I would have classified this as a memoir.
I don’t know if I would recommend this to people other than if they are interested in Candace Payne’s story. I don’t feel like I learned much about God or the Bible.
Content Guide: TW: Sexual assault mentioned, some more descriptive sexual behaviors mentioned (not graphic, but some TMI moments)
Hilarious must read we can all relate to something in this book to our own lives. Honest down to earth words straight from the funny "Chewbacca Mom" we've all come to know. Quick read you'll wish you hadn't speed through but you'll appreciate the joy It was to read.
My 2nd book of the year, and my 2nd book in personal development.
I have to admit that I'm an avid Disney fan, yet, haven't ever seen "Inside Out" and the personification of Joy was at times a bit awkward. That being said, I'm all about finding joy and happiness in every moment.
As Candace says..OH MY GAWD YA'LL!!! I loved this book. I have NEVER bought a book AFTER I listened to it...I just ordered this one. She is awe inspiring on her quest for true joy and I hope and pray I can better myself each day to follow in her footsteps!!!!
I have always been a person who sees life too seriously. I’ve never understood how people can laugh at difficult situations or find the funny in every day life. And to be honest, I’ve always been envious of people who have that ability. Candace’s Chewbacca mask video made me long even more for that ability. I want to laugh. I want to find the fun in the every day monotony. I want to have a sense of humor. So when I heard she was writing a book, I knew I HAD to get it. I just love how honest and transparent she is. I LOVE how she personified Joy. And after having read the book, I’m already fighting more to let Joy in and to listen when Joy calls me to play. Usually I’m too business to bother with that. But two weeks ago I took my kids out of school early just to go play in the park. Guys. I DON’T take my kids out of school unless they have a fever. Seriously. But I felt Joy calling me to play and I LISTENED. And it’s because of Candace’s book that I was even able to hear Joy. This book will change you.
A recent e-newsletter from Ann Voskamp shared an excerpt from this book that made me want to read it, which I honestly wouldn't have done if I had just come across it as "the Wookie Mom's memoir." Ms. Payne shares her story and struggles, and how she has overcome them to arrive in a place of joy and contentment--and encourages her readers to do the same. And, to use the overused cliche, she keeps it real. (The day after she's on the red carpet meeting Keith Urban, she's back home cleaning up after a sick dog. Real life, y'all.) It was a fairly quick read, but an enjoyable one.
About 2/3 of the way through this book, Candace Payne provides the reader with a list of statements about herself. The last one, "I am not a writer . . .," could not be further from the truth. I have read "writers" who could not convey an idea through words if their life depended on it. Payne is plain-spoken, but she gets her points across admirably.
Also, the things that Payne has had to overcome in her life ... Chewbacca Mom, You Rock! Thank-you for laying your life out (in anecdotes) to illustrate your points. It was truly a JOY to read this book! Keep laughing!
Payne placed a live video on Facebook that went viral and is the most viewed to date. Because of that, she became somewhat of a sensation. She reveals her life story in this memoir.
Payne is pretty much the kind of person to whom many can relate. She's over weight, struggled with her self concept when young, was a promiscuous teen, has had marital difficulties, has fought depression, etc. Her life story could be any of ours. She would have been one of a million moms and wives except for her video.
Payne's book is an encouragement for all of us. She wants us to be real, not hiding behind a mask. She wants us to fight for joy as that has sustained her through her life events. She wants us to get rid of the “can'ts” and “shoulds” and be authentic.
The millions of people who have viewed her Chewbacca Mom video will enjoy getting to know the person behind the laughter. For me, never having seen the video, I appreciated this memoir but was not amazed by it. I didn't think it was very funny and never laughed while reading it. I did appreciate her honesty about her life experiences. My biggest disappointment is that Payne never wrote about the true source of joy. She had a good opportunity with her moments of fame to reveal Jesus as her ultimate source of joy and strength but did not.
I recommend this book to those who have seen her Facebook video and want to know more about her.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Icon Media. My comments are an independent and honest review.
After I finished reading Candace's memoir, I held my phone close to my heart just thinking. (I read it on the Kindle app on my phone.) I read other reviews, mostly positive, and a few that challenged her for not using her memoir for an "in your face, come to Jesus" testimony. I personally felt her words were extremely honest, open, and true to her faith. It was a power-packed testimony in my opinion. There was a journey that she shared, and was willing to bare unsettling choices she has made, in order to convey the joy that was her reward for getting back on her true path. Which of course is a dichotomy of thought because had she not "strayed" so to speak, she wouldn't have learned the life lessons that taught her true joy. No matter... This book is one of the most honest "collection of words" I've ever read. She didn't talk at us... She shares with us. She isn't preachy, she is empowering. She is a wonderful, loving woman and we are blessed to "know" her. She is a friend in every sense of the word, although I've never met her. Thank you for your honest heart Candace!
Candace Payne became instantly famous and widely beloved when a video she took of herself trying on her brand new Chewbacca mask in her car went viral. Her laughter and delight at a simple kids' toy brought joy to countless people. And now, with her new book "Laugh It Up!" Candace is sharing the secrets of her joyful way of life with all of us.
I will admit this book was a pleasant surprise. I expected a light-hearted and possibly shallow discussion of happiness but Candace writes thoughtfully and candidly about her life and the struggles she's overcome. She recognizes that Joy is not easily obtained but must be relentlessly sought and fought for. My only issue with this book is that as a Christian, I wish Candace spent more time writing about Joy in biblical terms (as far as I know she is a Christian, too). But overall, as a book that comes at a time when there is so much darkness and negativity in the world it feels like breath of fresh air to read about the potential for Joy if we only have the guts and the know-how to look for it.
I loved the illustrations for each chapter that she drew to help illustrate the concept. It brings to life her life story that is told with brutal truth, sorrow, and how she found joy in her life. I found that I laughed out loud and felt like she was talking right to me. She shares her brokenness and struggle but shows how joy breaks through in all things. Her approach is real. Easily relatable. Her faith is clear. Her tips are practical, simple, yet packed with wisdom. I ordered a pre release copy and was blessed to get a PDF version in advance to read. But this is my opinion only. And I can't wait to get the book in my hands to highlight and read again. Practical advice and clear hope.
I love Candace Payne's energy and spirit. I ordered this book thinking it would be a fun, light read. Was I ever wrong. Yes, there were times when I laughed out loud, but the depth of her wisdom and the bravery of her vulnerability astounded me. My "new" book is now covered in highlighter and has folded over pages ( I know-that's the cardinal sin-sorry!) I can't recommend this book highly enough. It certainly took me on a journey of uncovering lies about who I am and what I believe. And while it was painful at times, there was hope on every page. Get it. Read it. And please keep writing, Candace! We need to hear more.
I have to be honest. I fell in love with Candace Payne when I stumbled upon the Wookie Mom video on Facebook. I lost count of how many times I watched it (I still look for it and watch when I need to laugh).
And then all of the media attention came her way, and the little green demon of jealousy began peeking over my shoulder and whispering in my ear..."Why couldn't you do something like that?" or "All of this attention for putting on a mask and laughing?"
Thankfully, I flicked the green thing back where he belongs, and I was just thankful for the laughter. For the joy. And then I found out she was writing a book.
Here he came again. My dream? To write. And to publish. But I'm a sucker for a new book, so when I was offered the chance to read it early and to help influence and launch, I was all over it.
I'm so glad Candace made that goofy video, and the world took notice, and gave her a platform so she could ultimately write this book. See, the world didn't notice Candace Payne and give her a platform.
God did. He did it all, from showing her the madk, to nudging her to buy it, to making the video, to sending it viral...because He has something He wants all of us to hear.
He made us for joy. Pure, laugh til you pee joy. Life is falling down around me but I still have joy. I just said goodbye to my best friend but I feel joy bubbling up.
His joy. Not Candace Payne's joy. His joy. And it was so critical that we get His message, He moved the pieces of Candace's not so easy life around in order to show us raw, unfiltered joy.
Then He moved things around so that Candace would get the opportunity to write "Laugh It Up", so she, through her total, transparent, gut-wrenching, honest book, could prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that THIS was His message all along...
"The joy of the Lord is your, is my, is Candace's strength". Maybe a large portion of the world will check out now that God's in the mix. But I hope not.
Because, if they do, they will miss the chance to really know Chewbacca Mom as she really is. And they will miss His joy. His love. His message of hope and healing through Jesus Christ, His Son, dying for us so that we can be His, and find His joy.
So, no, I haven't been blessed with the opportunity to write and publish my book. But I get to tell you about Candace Payne and her amazing book.
And that brings me such joy. So, thank You, God, for that discounted Wookie mask at Kohls that day. And thank You for Candace Payne and her marvelous laugh. And thank You for joy. YOUR joy.
And, God, if You could ever give me that book writing opportunity? ? I mean, You heard Candace's prayer for that impossible gift she asked for. . .and to know what I mean, you'll just have to read the book! ;-)
So what's the deal with Candace Payne? She's a stay at home mom who happened to become an overnight sensation due to video gone viral of her revealing a special toy: a Chewbacca mask. Filled with glee, Candace laughs wholeheartedly for several minutes. This isn't a superficial, fake laugh. It's a full belly laugh. She clearly is having fun. And yes, she got her 15 minutes of fame, but she took it one step further. She's now written a book and I'm currently attending the online Bible study entitled "Defiant Joy".
Candace is a down to Earth mom whose history of multiple moves and financial struggles have made her into the grateful and joyful woman she is today. In Laugh It Up! she shares the decision she'd made as a child that, even though happiness was fleeting, to always find the joy, despite tough moments in life. When I first saw the video, her laughter was contagious. But then I saw a list of other videos from the Jimmy Kimmel show to James Cordon, and I began to wonder if all this unexpected fame had changed her. That's not the impression I get from this book. Candace is taking that fleeting moment of fame and using it for God's glory and purpose.
I'm naturally pessimistic. I call myself a "realist". The point is, I'm not bubbling over with laughter and joy. In fact, joy typically takes middle or back seat often. When I make dinner, my catchphrase is, "I apologize in advance" because I assume it'll be awful. So many it rare is, but still...that's the type of person I am. When this book came up for review, I snatched up the opportunity to not only read it but also to get involved in the Bible study. She gives us homework?! Ok, according to Candace, it's "funwork", but still. #1 on the list is to go a day without complaining or arguing.
HAHAHAHHA.
Yeah. I failed by the time dinner was done. I only realized I was grumbling as I was washing the dishes.
Life punches us all in the gut from time to time. Some a lot more than others. And it truly amazes me, those that have gone through so much, that still exude that joy. Dive into this book to find ways to spark joy in your life. As Christians, we really should be joyful. Seriously! We have the joy of sharing the good news. For anyone struggling to maintain their joy, I highly recommended this simple and entertaining look at how we might increase our joy in life. I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Wow. The beginning of this book was all fun and games and laughter. But around chapter 4 it gets pretty serious. Candace has faced a lot in her life. Just like most people. And she's come through some hard times with Joy by her side. There are so many things here that I can relate to. Each chapter of this book tells another part of Candace's story and how she let something steal her joy and how she either overcame it or is working to overcome it.
Believe it or not, I found a way to relate to each chapter and each entity that pushes Joy aside: Shame. Comparison. Fear. Pride. Discontentment. (just to name a few). This is a book I will keep around and pick up often when I need a little refresher for the pain of whatever I'm going through.
The chapter about her marriage: Saying Never, Meaning Always really hit home in particular. I identified with her insecurities so much. Why is it so difficult to trust the man who promised to love me forever? Well because our society and my (and Candace's) past experiences tell us otherwise. Because Shame and Comparison have entered our minds and are very resistant to being thrown out.
But I don't want to give away any more specifics.
We all need joy in our life. Joy is different from happiness. It is a permanent entity, not reliant on circumstances. But we let other things take over and we forget about the joy. I also love that while yes, Candace is a Christian, she doesn't impose her beliefs on the reader. In fact, I don't think she even markets this book as a Christian book at all. While scripture talks about most of what she addresses in her book, and she does mention a couple verses and hymns, she doesn't spend a lot of time there because non-Christians need to experience Joy as well.
I recommend this book to literally anybody and everybody! Oh and I should mention that it is safe for readers of all ages as many sensitive details are left out. So feel free to read it with your kids or as a family.
Everyone fell in love with Candace Payne with the video of her wearing a Chewbacca mask and loving every minute of it went viral. Now she has a book out that will make you love her even more.
Candace Payne had no idea that buying a simple Star Wars toy would lead to the life she has now. She is a wife and mother of two from Dallas Texas and has captured the hearts of nearly 200 million with her infectious laugh all while wearing a Chewbacca mask and recording a video on her phone for Facebook. It quickly became the top viewed video at Facebook and lead to a slew of interviews and opportunities she might never have otherwise had. Laugh It Up tells the story of how she has found laughter in some of the most difficult circumstances and worked her way through to become the person she is today.
Like you, I can remember the first time I saw the video of Candace wearing the mask and couldn’t keep from laughing. There was just something about her laugh and wearing that masks that made me watch the video over and over just to put a smile on my face. Laugh It Up goes deep into what has made Candace Payne the woman she is today. Without knowing the backstory, we can’t truly appreciate her. Her words are both funny and heartfelt. Just like most of us she has gone through her share of struggles and luckily has found a way to overcome those struggles and find something to laugh and smile about, which in turn, has made millions of others laugh as well. There are going to be those that don’t like what she has to say, there always are. But for the majority of readers they will hopefully come away with a better understanding of Chewbacca Mom and what truly makes her someone for us to look to and say there are good things in this life and things to laugh about, we just have to find them.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.

My Review
Laugh It Up is the memoir of everyone's favourite mom, Chewbacca Mom! Candace Payne made her name simply by posting a video to Facebook that garnered millions of view just for her joyous reaction to a Star Wars electronic Chewbacca mask. In Laugh It Up Candace goes back to her childhood how her family moved from place to place. Laugh It Up really is about experience joy through the smallest of things.
I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly impressed by this book. I guess I was expecting something a bit more superficial and much less meaningful.
This is not a book about Candace's Chewbacca Mom video going viral and the explosive aftermath. It's about how learning to live her life in pursuit of joy led to that exact moment, and the benefits that came after. I enjoyed this book a ton. I love that Candace is a regular person, sharing her experiences, and that her personal philosophies align with my own. Even before her moment with the Chewbacca mask, she was taught the power of making time for play, even in adulthood. Her family was once homeless during her childhood, she was sexually assaulted in adolescence, has dealt with marital troubles and postpartum depression. This book is about how though she may have lost her way at times, Candace always realized joy was in her life.
The writing isn't exceptional, though it is genuine. Her voice comes through loud and clear. There are a bit too many "y'alls" for my liking, and it's pretty heavy on Christianity at times, though again that is all Candance's truth being spoken, which is clear. It's a fun read, inspiring us to do the little things every day that light us up and bring joy.
Sometimes you read a book that reaches down into your core, and this is one of them.
I only bought this book because I had seen Candace's Chewbacca mask video years ago, and I still occasionally watch it to this day when I need a good belly laugh.
I am so so glad I read this when I did. I couldn't have picked a better time to read it, honestly. With everything that is going on the world right now, Candace's words hold more truth than ever. We need to be kind to EVERYONE, ALWAYS. And we need to choose JOY and have hope that everything will be okay during these trying times.
Candace's heart is so pure. Faith in humanity: RESTORED.
I am not religious at all, however I loved this book because the values and beliefs that Candace has are very much the same as my own. We are very much the same in a lot of ways, I think.
We should all practice love, kindness, compassion, and respect; always. It is important to put energy into positive emotions and thoughts, not negative ones.
I will continue to refer back to this book (I've highlighted SO many notes) all of the time. Life is a journey, and I intend to live mine with positivity, laughter, and JOY :)
I was very excited about this book. After seeing Candace Payne's "Chewbacca Mom" video last year, who wouldn't want to get closer to the person who, with childlike abandon, found the joy in the simple things? Candace seems to be the kind of person you would want to be friends with. So, with that in mind, I was excited to read her book, thinking that maybe she held the key to unlocking that unbridled joy in my own life.
That said, I didn't find her book to be as compelling as I thought it would be. It took me quite some time to get through the first 1/2 of the book, as it was easy to let it sit on the nightstand. I think I finally found something to identify with in the last few chapters and then devoured it quickly.
Still, Candace tells her own story to finding joy in her life with unapologetic frankness and a refreshing lack of self-pity. I applaud her ability to share her story openly and her willingness to bring the reader along, sharing the ways that she overcame obstacles to find and release her personal joy. If you can take away one nugget from the book for your own life, it will be worth the read.
If you have ever found yourself in a joyless season, you need to read this book. I listened to the audiobook but I will definitely be getting the physical book because it is THAT good! I needed a pick-me-up because reclaiming my joy has been a battle these past few months. Candace's book is filled with funny and inspiring stories that will have you laughing and crying (from happiness and in kindred sorrow). Candace herself narrates her book which only adds to the authenticity of her story. Despite everything she has gone through in life, she maintains an effervescent spirit of joy that is simply contagious. Her minutes of fame thanks to her Facebook live video in the Chewbacca mask a couple of years ago may have launched her into the spotlight, but really it was her obedience to the Lord's still small voice that caused it all. Her candid struggles with purity and self-image are things that I can certainly relate to in a major way, which firmly lands her on my top 10 list. I would LOVE to meet Candace one day to thank her for sharing her story and showing me how to recapture my own joy.
The first time I saw the Chewbacca Mom video I shared it saying I wanted to be her best friend. When I saw this book, I couldn’t wait to read it. After my good friend recommended it, I knew it would be good. I started listening to this book this morning and I could not stop. I began in my car while hauling my brood around this morning, then locked myself in my room unable to tear my ears away. I have never been this deeply moved, inspired, thrilled, and awed by a book (aside from The Bible) in my life. Candace eloquently spoke words into experiences, feelings, thoughts that parallel so many of my own. The relatability for me is awe inspiring. The underlying story of how God orchestrated the turn of events she experienced will bring tears. I laughed, I cried, I was inspired to embrace my own joy. If you are a mom, a wife, a woman...especially if you have ever felt less than, overwhelmed, or if you’ve lost your joy...do yourself a favor and pick up this book. Set aside a day because you will not be able to put it back down until it’s over.
This is one of the BEST books I’ve ever read. So much of what Candace shared resonated with me. I mean, strangely timely. Funny how that happens... Embracing Freedom and Experiencing Defiant Joy is for everyone!! (Not just for Star Wars fans!)
I love that Candace shares from her past hurts and struggles, but that she recognizes the hand of God in her life all along.
If you’re looking for some inspiration and encouragement (and yes, some chuckles!), grab this quick read. We can all use more JOY in our lives! I dogeared several pages (It’s my book, not the library’s, so its okay!), and I will probably refer to these nuggets of simple wisdom again and again.
One of my marked “nuggets” to remember: “There’s an unspoken rule that advertises you have to be deserving, worthy, and merited to have joy (you have to be ‘enough’). ...Joy doesn’t tolerate that nonsense. Joy does not discriminate. She is a friend to any and all who would receive her.”
This is more than a book about a Facebook sensation. It's a walk down a sometimes troubled and sad path with reminders of Joy - who is always with us, even when we can't see her or hear her voice. Candace Payne has a heart for God and a spirit of love.
My best friend bought this book for me at a time I was going through challenges at work. She encouraged me to find defiant joy. The most incredible part is she shared this with me at a time she is facing much more sadness and grief than I can understand. You see, her husband has terminal cancer and yet she found this book for me. My greatest wish is that I can keep Joy active in our future. We have so much to bring us sadness in this moment but I firmly believe JOY comes in the morning!
So thank you to my BFF, Amy, for the gift of this book. And, thank you, Candace, for putting into words the Joy I can flood back into my friend's life. It's bigger than any pain or sadness we can face.
Fabulous, down to earth reminder to seek Joy in all things.
I stumbled upon this book, the accompanying study book and the videos just before Study Gateway offered them for free (thank you Mandisa for advertising and supporting Candace). I was already involved in 2 other studies and thought, am I crazy to take on another? I'm so glad I took the jump. I'll admit, my first thoughts were nice study from a new author, fairly simple ,but a good message to hear when we hear so much negative. But I tell you,I stand way corrected! I needed this book. I do needed this book. Candace is humorous, real and very soon you feel you are sitting with her over coffee. She touched on so many things we deal with in life. I cannot tell you how many times I have shared tidbits from this. I love she went through all aspects of joy - even when sorrow and joy collide. Truly a great book. Candace, thank you for listening to God's plan!
I don’t often write reviews bc I feel I’m not very good at expressing my thoughts. However, I’ll do so here anyway bc that’s how much this book inspired me. I learned about Candace Payne bc of a podcast interview she did with Penn & Kim Holderness. After that, I looked up this book. I’m glad my library had it available in audio format. I’m also glad that Candace read it. That made it so endearing! I love her relationship with God & how she personifies Joy. I’m pretty that’s mostly bc of the Disney movie, Inside Out. (I really loved that movie! ☺️) I think it’s bold & brave that Candace shared really personal details about her life. She has known some true hardships in her life but fortunately doesn’t let that stop her. Thank you Candace for following Gods promptings in your life. What a great example you are! 💕 (ps, I had previously heard of Chewbacca mom but kind of missed it when it was popular bc I’m not cool/trendy 😄)
