I know this reviews says book review, but this isn’t a book it’s a paperback devotional, the size of any normal devotional such as Words of Hope. The Christmas Code is a devotional written specifically for the Advent Season. Each daily devotional includes a passage of Scripture to read, a brief message about the passage from the author, a Code Word and a prayer of reflection. The Code Word picks out a specific word, such as favor and give an additional short message about how that word relates to the Advent season and sometimes an additional passage from Scripture to read. The devotional is set up in a similar manner to devotionals I am familiar with but is focused only on the Advent Season. I enjoyed the author’s writing and believe it would be a great devotional for both personal use as well as for use in a Bible study setting during the Advent season.

Thank you to the publisher, Thomas Nelson, for sending me a review copy of this book.

With this story, the one that animates my life as all the other books go by, any original insights would have gotten four stars. Original phrasing of the same insights would have gotten four stars. Neither was forthcoming.

My Review:

Before you know it, Christmas will be here. And with each Christmas we become very aware that we have an awesome Savior that wants you to devote more time to Him. In this tiny booklet you have from December the 1st all the way up to December 25th to take some extra time to bask in His glory all He has done for you and for me. O.S. Hawkins is the author of several code books. We own a majority of those and I have even reviewed a few. He is a great author and a fantastic researcher.

This small devotional is titled just for the time of Advent. It is a perfect little book that is great for taking the time to just be with the Lord and marvel in His goodness. Each devotion is titled with a "root" word. Many of these root words consist of grief, manger, prospect, etc. Each of the devotions used are full of enlightenment and encouraging words to lift your spirit during the holiday season.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author. All opinions are my own.

This is a pocket size paperback booklet that can be read anywhere. The author says in the introduction, “Advent offers a time of spiritual preparation. It provides a time of reflecting on the true joy, peace, hope, and love that the coming of the Christ child makes possible for each and every one of us…. The Christmas Code embodies a devotional journey through the days of December….

The author starts off by talking about Roots: A Christmas Gift – Then goes to describe the Code word: Roots, Grief, Favor, Book, Crop, Manager and many other Code words that help readers capture a Christmas Gift meant just for them.

After the scripture and devotion the author explains the Code word then there is a reflection and a prayer. It’s short, sweet but meaning full. It’s a great way to help get you and your family in the spirit of Christmas.

“The Christmas Code” is the perfect solution for our busy lifestyles during the Christmas Season. It will help bring you closer to God as you study and ponder the events leading up to His birth by reading the topic of the day, along with the scripture, devotional, a code word and a prayer.

It has 25 daily devotionals to celebrate the Advent Season.
It is small enough to fit in your pocket or purse.
It measures approximately 6x4x .25 inches.
Soft cover.
It is 60 pages in length and each devotional covers two small pages.
Each devotional has a topic, scripture, devotional, a code word and a prayer.
Affordable.

If you are looking for a way to stay connected to God during the Christmas Season, this little book is the answer.

The best part of the book for me is the code word. Also this book would be a great gift to have at each plate-setting for Thanksgiving to start the Christmas Season off on the right track.

This is a great little devotional book for December 1st through 25th. The devotions are excerpted from the year-long The Believer’s Code book of devotions. The excerpted devotions are short, the perfect length as one is caught up in Christmas preparation. They are also very on point, to keep Jesus the main focus in the days leading up to Christmas.

Each day has a “code” word to focus on throughout the day that relates to the topic of the devotion. There is also scripture shared each day, and a brief prayer. It is perfect to slip into a pocket or purse for use when waiting in checkout lines. The minimal price makes it easy to keep a few on hand to give to others. It will definitely be one that I use again in the future.

I highly recommend The Christmas Code for those who enjoy adding a holiday-themed devotional that is well-written and concise. I like that the author’s royalties are given to a special ministry.

This is a nice little Advent devotional book. My rating 4.5.

I gifted this little devotional to my Ladies’ Book Club, and a few friends, as our December reading choice. We so often get caught up in the rush and busyness of the holiday season that I thought this would help us focus on the ‘reason for the season’.

This is pocket size and I carried mine with me in my purse and sometimes in my briefcase to read if I had to wait for a hearing. I liked the way it was set out with a ‘code’ word for each day. There is a scripture verse, a devotion, a code word with description and then a short sentence prayer.

All of the ladies indicated they appreciated the quick and meaningful devotions. I encourage believers to pick this up or another advent devotional to help prepare their hearts during the Christmas season.

Very nice short devotional book to use throughout the advent season. I used this book everyday with the Bellringers for The Salvation Army before we went out to bless people throughout the season. It was a great devotional for this. Not too overly analytical and simple for them to understand and provided the right time frame.

I received a complimentary copy.

I must say that booklet is the appropriate term for this tiny and simple book. It is more like a pamphlet, but does have a good variation of daily devotions that the whole family can participate in reading and learning. For three dollars it is worth the read.

Loved this devotional book for Advent / December. We enjoyed the daily morning reading and looked forward to the great perspective. Drilling the birth of Jesus down to small parts that we had not considered before.

This is an advent book and it describes the different people that are mentioned in the Bible about the birth of Jesus. It also has a code word and describes it and a short prayer at the end.

Recommended to everyone.

Good insight and help to stay focused on Jesus during the Christmas season while being brief enough that you’ll actually get it read in the inevitable busyness.

This is a very cute and quick way to get and keep your family in the Christmas spirit and to keep your minds on the true reason for the season. Was it super insightful and amazing? No, but it served its purpose.
