More than any other devotional I’ve read, this gorgeous book prompts me to praise God for his majesty. Breathtaking pictures of mountain scenery fill this book, which reminds me of the two years I lived on a mountain top.

My alma mater for my English degree is Covenant College. It’s located on top of Lookout Mountain, Georgia in the Smoky Mountains. The sunsets were spectacular, and the sparkling evening view of Chattanooga, Tennessee never ceased to amaze me. Let me tell you, the autumn scenery was astounding, and I’ve never seen anything else that compares.

Sometimes I would take a break from my heavy course load and hike in the mountains. Other times I would simply sit at a lookout and soak up the beauty. This unique devotional reminds me of those times when I drew close to God on Lookout Mountain.

Anyone who enjoys camping, hiking, or climbing in the mountains will truly enjoy this book. The devotions feature a variety of subjects like wildlife, mountain flowers, sunsets, and snowstorms. The full-spread photos are pauses that inspire praise for God’s marvelous creation.

The devotions are about one page long, and include a brief, personal prayer. The writing voice will appeal to either a male or female reader. I plan to use this book in my personal worship time.

I want to take more time to praise God from a position of awe and wonder, and this book is the perfect tool for helping me do that.

If you enjoy mountain scenery and devotionals, this is the ideal book for your quiet time. Here’s a quote to give you a sneak peek:

"Just as we often feel both humbled and exhilarated by the mountains, it is fitting to be humbled and exhilarated in God’s presence."

The BookLook Bloggers Program provided me a free review copy of this book–many thanks!

I am always looking for a good devotional, so this one caught my eye with the beautiful photo on the cover of the book. It is true that you cannot judge a book by its cover, but we do tend to do that anyway. In this case, I judged correctly.

Oddly, there is no author listed on the book, nor for any of the devotions in the book. The devotional is not a 365-day devotional, but has around 80 devotions in it (they are not numbered). Each has a title, followed by a Bible verse or two, then the main devotional.

The book is also full of beautiful photographs of mountains and other pictures of nature.

The anonymous devotions are well written and center mostly around nature and the mountains. Even without the well written devotions, the book is worth having for the beautiful photography throughout the book.

Devotions From the Mountains is available from Thomas Nelson Publishers.

I was attracted to this book because of its beautiful cover and because it was about the mountains...which reminds me of home. All of the devotions have a mountain theme, and it's a great gift for any lover of nature and beauty. Each day begins with a Biblical passage, goes on to the short devotion, and then ends with a prayer. There are also interesting facts and tidbits about the mountains! The beautiful glossy full-color pages, hardcover spine, and built in bookmark round out the book's beauty, making it a nice gift option - even to yourself! I can't always get to the mountains, but I can open the pages and immerse myself for a few moments...

Received this as a gift from my parents who came across it at a place they stayed during a vacation of theirs. While it is Christian oriented, I was pleased to see that each section was gentle with their scripture references; as someone who considers herself more spiritual than religious, I was able to enjoy this still with how they approached each topic. The photographs are absolutely stunning and match well with their respective chapters. Overall, if you are looking for something to help re-center yourself, whether you are religious or spiritual, this is a great book to turn to. I plan on checking out the other versions in this series as well.

I was drawn to this devotional because of the beautiful cover. This is a hardback book with gorgeous mountain photos on the cover and throughout the book. All the devotions have a mountain theme with scripture and reflection along with a lovely mountain scene. Each page has a glossy finish that makes the photos vivid. This devotional would make a lovely gift or a lovely treat for yourself.

I would actually give this devotional 3.5 stars. There were several entries that I felt were deep enough and spoke to me but there were also many entries that I felt were just too light or too similar to each other.
