First off I think both books in this trilogy - so far - have beautiful covers. This one is even more beautiful with a cover that just pops!
I loved this book more than the first one . . BUT . . . I was thinking for a little bit that I might not because after Fletcher being left in jail for a year, he got out and had to go through all of these stupid trials. They were unfair and they almost got him killed, but the good side prevailed and the people saw what was right in the testimonies.
Now Fletcher and his friends along with some of his enemies have to go and try to complete some tasks in the jungles for the king so the Orcs don't succeed in killing everyone.
Ignatius (Fletcher's little demon) is still with him and I love that little guy. Fletcher also gets another demon and she's a gryphowl named Athena, she's cool too but I don't love her as much as Ignatius. Not yet anyway.
Othello and Sylva are back along with some new characters. They all have to go out together in their little group and I think there were two other groups but it might have been three. They have to watch out for each other and things in the jungle and Orcs and . . . .
The thing I loved about this book is the large amount of creatures and what they call demons. They are things like wendigo's, manticore's, gryphowl - there are too many to name. But, the author did leave a list of a lot of them in the back of the book with their levels and a description about them.
At one point Fletcher rescues a gremlin named Blue from being killed and so he has the gremlins on his side.
You know I wish they would make a graphic novel of this trilogy or something because I want to see all of these creatures! I think it would make an awesome book, but I digress.
The book ended on a cliffhanger but it didn't really bother me which is weird because I usually hate cliffhangers. I guess it was a good enough one not to drive me crazier than I am.
If you loved the first book or liked it I would suggest giving this one a try because it's even better. You may love it, you may hate it but that is for you to decide! =)

Let me start with a disclaimer. This is a book for young readers, and were I such, I think I would have given this book all the 🌟 in the world! I would have been swooning over the honorable young hero Fletcher, his sense of duty, justis, friendship and loyalty making him my dream boyfriend! I would have also wished to be a part of the gang, hanging out with the cool Dwarfs, palling around with exotic Elves, and forming forever friendships while adventuring, going to magical school and showing off my summoning Demons skills by saving the day... I really wish I had read this series when I was that young, or I had kids to share it with. It would have been one of my favorites. However, I have lived a bit longer and read a bit more, so all the wonderful heroes of the story seem a bit to flat, the plot is a bit to simplified, and the dialogue feels as if we are in a Disney TV sitcom, where there is no subtlety or gradation. Everything is good or bad, everyone is on our side or evil, the bad guys actions are telegraphed with a megaphone, and our heroes have no real flaws...
As I stated before, this type of writing is a wonderful way to teach young people the basics of honor, friendship and loyalty, and I honestly wish there were more like it in the current market. We have all become so jaded, it is a knee reaction to mentally buck at those positive characters. However, I much rather the people who are just finding their way in life read and emulate these flat but good role models, rather than read the currently more popular complex, but ultimately screwed up examples of what we call "more neo-realistic" leads in youth Fantasy. I think it makes for better core values in the long run.
Fletcher is jailed for a whole year while awaiting a trial. His enemies, the stuffy nobles along with the old King and the Inquisition, have also found a way to set up his dwarf friend Othello as well, and the two of them are as good as sentenced to death. However, a fortunate string of events might give them another chance, only to put them in a situation for worse outcomes, involving all the people they care about... Saying anything else would spoil the fun of reading the book, so I will stop right there!
However, I have to say that the Demons in this series, are AWESOME! They are like cute animation magic animals come to life and all of them are adorable, even the ones that are bonded with the bad guys. Here we get to meet some Gremlins and I wanted to adopt Blue right away. There were even some Orcs I felt sorry for. The cuteness overload is emens 😀😀😀❤!
I will recommend this series to all, but mostly to those under 21years of age, and a must read for middle Schoolers. I personally plan on reading the rest of the series, despite the books ending with a major cliffhanger every time!

With loyal friends Othello and Sylva by his side, Fletcher must battle his way to the heart of Orcdom and save Hominum from destruction…or die trying.
The Inquisition was a good follow up to The Novice. The book starts out a year after the last one left off with a trial soon following. Once we get through the trial and all that, Fletcher and his friends are sent on a mission deep into orc territory along with others who are not so friendly. They are divided up into four different teams. The teams get divided up pretty predictably, with each given a guide to lead them through the jungle. During the quest, to make things even more dangerous, there is a someone who keeps trying to kill Fletcher, obviously trying to frame the Dwarfs. There are a few revelations in this book that are not all that surprising. I predicted most of them, but maybe younger readers will not.
This as a simplified fantasy, that's definitely written for YA readers, but still quite enjoyable. The characters are pretty black and white and plot-wise, the story follows a traditional route with nothing really new added. I did like the addition of the gremlins. The idea of the goblins coming from a cross between gremlins and orcs was new to me. I loved poor Blue and wish we could have seen even more of him and his group. Once again my favorite aspect of the book are the demon pets that the mages have. Who doesn't love a Gryphon or an Alicorn or one of the many others?
Just like the last book, this one ends with a cliffhanger-like ending. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next. Review also posted at Writings of a Reader

Alrighty, time to actually write this review. First off, I was sent this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review for the BookTube Tour organized by Grace from LovingDemBooks. Obviously this doesn't affect my opinion of the book/series. Check my review of the first book if you doubt it.
Woah, this installment was exactly what I wanted when I finished the first book. If you saw my wrap up video where I talk about The Novice, I had a fair number of problems with Fletcher and his characterization. Literally, every single one of those issues were fixed/addressed within the first 100 pages of The Inquisition. That alone, was incredible. Taran definitely went about bringing Fletcher back to his original loyal description perfectly in the contexts of the overall plot and gave Fletcher consequences for straying from that moral in the first book. Well done.
This is a fast, insanely compelling read. I was supposed to be studying for my final exam when I thought I would take a break and read the first couple of chapters. Jump to hours later, and I'm on page 150 with no intention of slowing down. Needless to say I was thinking about different demon canids instead of the scientific name for Spanish moss when my test came around. It's Tillandsia usneoides by the way, and I did well despite my lack of preparation. The chapters are written with miniature cliff hangers that just made me read and read and read. I had to know what would happen next, and I love when a book can do that to me. That said, I wasn't a big fan of the cliff hanger ending of the first book because I found it didn't provide much catharsis to the reader about anything, and this had the same style ending. I knew it would because I watched an interview where he said it would be along the same vein, so I didn't get upset by it or hold it against it. If you didn't like the first ending, you definitely won't like this one.
The plot takes the characters into a completely different environments and really tests their summoning skills as well as their ability to solve problems and work together. I think this expansion on the politics and lesser-known geographic areas of the world lent to making it more concrete in my mind, and I got a better feel for how the different groups of people interact. We get answers to questions that I thought would take longer to be answered, so I was pleasantly surprised. But we obviously are given new issues to stew on for a whole year until the next book is released. Thanks for that, jerk. Another thing I liked was the active prevention of plot holes. I felt like every time I asked myself the question, "Well, why doesn't he/she just do 'this' and then the problem would be solved," there would be a sentence soon following about how that idea I'd come up with wouldn't work.
The characters are logical about the decisions they make this time, and you definitely get behind everything that they're doing. It makes me so frustrated when a character's decision makes no sense or they focus on something unimportant when something huge should have their intention. Luckily, you won't have to worry about that in this volume. I liked the new characters added. They certainly brought a new dynamic to the group and kept all the dialogue feeling fresh.
And lastly, the magic system. It's my favorite part of this series. I just really enjoy learning about the spells and demons. I would for sure be in favor of an illustrated guide book if ever there is the chance to make one. The variety and creativity to the demons is fantastic, and I loved Fletcher's addition. The fact that the main characters are not these over-powered teens that can't be beat is something I find important. They have to use their magic as best as they can, and there's no guarantee that it will be enough to come out on top. The way it should be.
Overall, I found this novel to be simply amazing. I don't think I've ever had a series jump from 3.5 stars to 5 stars in one book, but now I have. I think if you had similar issues as I did in the first book, definitely continue on. It is worth it. I'll be getting my hands on a finished copy when I get the chance to add it to my shelves and for future rereadings.

I'm sorry to go there right off the bat, but that title is just begging for this point to be made:
And as for that cliffhanger Matharu left us with last time, along with the one he gave us this time, I hereby present my idea of what must be going on in his head:
So...The Inquisition. Mercifully, the title group only really appears during the first quarter of the book or so, because as interesting and high-stakes as the whole trial thing is, it turns into an absolute farce - and not in a good way - very quickly. It pretty much takes on the sort of kangaroo-court proceedings my fellow Americans and I can expect if the Nazis - sorry, the GOP - win the White House this year. (God forbid.) And speaking of all the Nazi horrors Der Fuehrer Drumpf must have in mind for my country, in this second book, Matharu raises the racial-tension theme up to eleven (almost said "up to elven" there, haha). By the end of the book, it becomes clear that the orcs aren't all the enemy, not even close. And that there's a certain conservative-type cabal in Hominum, bound and determined to reshape human society in their own image. False God much?
As for our heroes, it's been a year since the end of The Novice, and none of them are, well, novices anymore. Training is over. These guys and gals are pretty hardened now - especially Fletcher, who's noticeably grown up (but still can't grow a decent mustache.) And on the demon side, there's none better than our little Toothless-esque Salamander, Ignatius, who takes all the levels in adorable in this book.
Together, they journey into the dangerous jungles of the orc world - the same jungles featured on the book's cover, where Everything Is Trying To Kill You. Just look at the description of the guy who accidentally wiped his arse with the wrong leaves (and in a place like this, are there really any right leaves for the job?)
All this action and adventure, of course, leads up to a cliffhanger even more gnarly than the first one, if anything. Well, it's much less sudden than that of The Novice, but still. I reiterate:
Taran Matharu, you bloody genius.
I really, really hope that next year, my library gets with the program and orders The Battlemage well in advance of its release. Seriously, library, being forced to do special orders like I did for the first two Summoner books is not helping your business.

This book starts with Fletcher and Ignatius imprisoned and keeping each other company. I loved the relationship between both of them in The Novice and I loved it even more in this book. This read has even more twists and turns than the first one and most of them are unpredictable. Taran Matharu knows exactly how to keep the reader on an edge and at all times. He has become my new favourite even more so after this read.
Fletcher goes on a trial where we find out that he's a Noble-born and his parents were killed by the Orcs. Fletcher is also given his family demon, Athena, a Gryphowl with a mix of cat and owl and again I instantly fell in love with another of Fletcher's demons. With Athena's memories that becomes Fletcher's vision, we find out exactly how Fletcher came to Pelt.
I definitely laughed at Ignatius and Athena ignoring each other in the beginning, it was just too cute. Their relationship also grows beyond jealousy to trust. They are the perfect two demons for our hero.
There are some new characters that are introduced of which Cress is my favourite. Cress is also a dwarf like our very own Othello.
They are all sent on a mission along with few others forming teams to destroy goblin eggs and to rescue Lady Cavendish from the Orcs' jungle after receiving news from one of the slaves who rescued from the Orcs. All of Hominum is watching through scrying crystals. We are all kept on an edge whilst the teams carry out their mission. We find out that there's a traitor who tries to sabotage Fletcher's team's mission. Without going in a lot of detail, I'd say a lot happens in the Orcdom and our heroes are met with one difficulty after another. They make sacrifices and overcome with their sharp wits and some difficult decisions. And all of a sudden, a bomb is dropped on us and we are left on yet another cliff hanger.
This series is among my all time favourite fantasy series. Fletcher is a humble, caring and loyal character who always does the right thing and he is easily likeable and I love him. I can't express in words how much I love Ignatius. In fact, all the characters are pretty amazing and unique. This world created by Taran Matharu is quite unique in itself. His writing is captivating and brilliant. The covers are wonderful. I can't wait for the next in the series.

This book was all about the second half. The first half I thought a few parts were too simplistic and I know part of it was supposed to be but it was a bit ludacris.
The quest however was very good and the surprise ending I had part of it figured out.

Fabulous characters- humans, dwarves, elves, orcs. Goblins and gremlins; a fantastic range of demons and imaginative flora and fauna create a perfect world for a fantasy novel you can really get behind! Excellent fun.

This book is awesome as expected from the author. Completely captivating. One fault I could point out is that, it is damn short. I really liked the feel and concept of the book. Not original but put eloquently. The protagonist is epic.
And that freaking cliffhanger. You betrayed us. How could you do that to us? We trusted you. Give us a bit closure at least. I hope you publish the sequel soon.

Another solid entry in the Summoner series and it had some really good elements from the first as well as some new things.
The world building was good but didn't build much on the first one. The worlds do reflect the story well but are not overly descriptive. The Demons however really bring the story to life and do prop up the world building as they really bring you into their world. The variations and vividness in the depiction of the Demons (And some associated characters like Gremlins and Orcs) are excellent.
The characters are good in this one as well and we have a few new ones who add to the story as well.
Clearly it's all about Fletcher and we get a lot of backstory to his character which really helps flesh out his character. Sylva is quite good again and the villains are quite good (we see a returning character here and they weave that in very well with the story).
The plot is strong and while the pacing is a little slow it has some nice action sequences, as well as some twists and turns. There were a couple of plot points that didn't quite gel (one major one at the start and then another in the middle which I didn't really see the purpose of) but overall it was interesting. It still has that gaming feel (Pokemon especially) but really that is the best part so i'm glad that holds such a prominent place.
Overall a good follow up to the first and certainly worth continuing on with if you read the first.
I'ts still an excellent book for the younger YA reader or an older junior reader looking to transition into YA books that are a bit more involved than some books for younger readers.

First of all, I was excited that I got to be on the Booktube Blog Tour for The Inquisition! I went sent a free copy of both books from Fierce Reads in exchange for a review.
I really enjoyed reading The Novice and The Inquisition. Matharu is skilled at world building and it is very easy to get pulled into the world of the summoner.
These books remind me a little of His Dark Materials Trilogy and Harry Potter, with a little of Lord of the Rings and Pokemon thrown in there.
It is fun to watch the main character, Fletcher, grow from a bullied boy into a skilled and confident man. Poor Fletcher never seems to catch a break, but still his character is one that I find very likable, as he always seems to care for the outcasts and those in need.
I love the demons too. They are probably my favorite part! Ignatius is adorable and I wish I had one of my own. They add a bit more magic and intrigue to the story.
These books have great things to say about overcoming diversity, believing in yourself and showing kindness, even at the toughest times.
If you are looking for a new fantasy series with lots of action and big-hearted characters, I would definitely pick this up.

Okay, so that thing happened and I'm still trying to get over the fact that I have to wait a few months to get the next book. Where's the justice, Taran Matharu ?
Let's recap.
Book 1 ended with a cliffhanger and The Inquisition began one year after the events in the first book. Some characters have a cameo and we are introduced to some good and evil new characters which is a blast because that means more death. Yaay.
I'm actually quite surprised that I still remember all the things that happened in book one and that's quite a feat because my memory (when it comes to books read long ago) is not good. I don't have any problem encountered while reading the sequel and the characters who I liked before are still likable in this book.
Can't really give much spoilers but the book is really good and I enjoyed reading it. Can't say the same thing though about the cliffhanger...

کتاب دوم این مجموعه خیلی بهتر از کتاب اولش بود
با یه پرش زمانی شروع شد و غافلگیری های خوبی هم داشت.
جلد دوم یه سرو گردن بالاتر از جلد اوله چون بالاخره داستان رو تعریف میکنه و دیگه به معرفی قوانین دنیای خودش نمی پردازه.
سناریو خیانت اواخر کتابم عالی بود.
این کتاب یه پتانسیل عالی برای پایان بندی و جلد سوم ایجاد کرده که امیدوارم ازش استفاده بشه

This series is proving to be one of the most underrated books I've ever read.
This book is a gem. More, demons, more battles, more character developments, and certainly dozens of twists and turns. I saw some of it coming but it didn't take away my enjoyment. I loved the ever growing relationship of Fletcher and Ignatius. They're just so fun to watch! Plus, there's a brewing romance that I immensely enjoyed! Push a little bit further and the ship will sail! The extension of the world was also very interesting. I would love to learn more, especially about the new environment that we'll see in the next installment. That would be ten times as interesting! I also enjoyed the new characters. They added more complication, fun, and trouble to the story.
My main problem with this one is probably the way it kind of dragged in the middle. Aside from that, all is good in the world.
I have made a lot of crackpot theories for the next installment and I cant wait to see if I at least got a few things right. I'm also curious on how some of the new characters will come in to play in the ending. Real shit went down and it would be an agonizing year before I'll get to know what will happen next.

Fletcher enfrento un juicio que se veia por todas partes que estaba arreglado, y donde lo unico que lo salvo fue el descubrimiento de su origen noble, siendo identificado como el hijo de Lord y Lady Raleigh quienes fueron asesinados en un ataque de los Orcos. Sin embargo, Fletcher sabe que el triunvirato esta haciendo todo lo posible por crear una guerra entre los humanos y los enanos, asi que cuando en el consejo propone que 4 grupos de estudiantes se dirigan dentro del territorio de los Orcos para rescatar a una dama, y destruir la nueva arma que estan creando, en seguida se ofrece como voluntario, incluyendo en su equipo a Othello y Sylvia. Pero la travesia dentro del territorio de los Orcos es mucho mas dificil de lo que imaginaron, y compitiendo contra 3 equipos mas, y sabiendo que no deben estar atentos solo a los Orcos, su mision se hace cada vez mas peligrosa. Lograran Fletcher y su equipo cumplir la mision y regresar a casa a salvo? Podran descubrir quien quiere sabotearlos e impedir que regresen a casa?
Este libro es igual que adictivo que el anterior, desde que comienzas el primer capitulo la emocion y la ansiedad de saber lo que le va a pasar al prota y como se va a librar de ello te hace pegarte a la lectura y no querer soltarlo. Cuando se descubre su origen y se inicia la mision, es un momento de alta tension. Y cuando se adentran en la selva, mirando para todos lados, y esperando el ataque, te provoca morderte los dedos. Pero lo mas tenso es cuando se descubre quien fue el traidor, un giro que no me esperaba para nada, y que me dio mucha tristeza.
Es cierto, la historia esta llena de cliches, y de "secretos", que uno como lector, descubre de inmediato, pero la forma de narrar la historia, la forma de los dialogos y lo sencillo de las descripciones de los lugares, personas y animales, hace que la lectura sea ligera y rapida.
En fin, vamos para el ultimo libro de la trilogia, esperando saber como va a terminar esta guerra y que va a pasar con los Orcos y los traidores.

طبیعتاً بعد از خوندن قیام سرخ و شش کلاغ، این کتاب برام کمی همه چیزش رو بود!
کتاب به وضوح نسبت به جلد اول، یعنی کارآموز، پیشرفت داشته. سعی کرده از هری پاتر فاصله بگیره و جهان متفاوت و خلاقانه خودش رو بسط بده
راه ها و مسیرهای زیادی رو در داستان باز کرده که امیدوارم به موقع به همشون برسه. اینطور که داره پیش میره یه مقدار نگرانم. جهان داستانی بسیار گسترده و وسیع شده و جای کار فراوان داره. این کتاب پر از مسیرهای جدید و خلاقیت های نو بود اما باید دید قراره چطوری در تنها یک جلد باقیمونده به همگی رسیدگی کنه. از اختلافات داخلی و توطئه ها گرفته تا مسائل اورک ها و جهان اورک ها و گرملین ها. همین گرملین ها متاسفانه نویسنده از دستش در رفت و جایی که می تونستن نقش آفرین باشن، کاملاً گم و گور شدن
نویسنده کاملاَ مشخصه که تجارب اول نوشتن رو پشت سر میذاره. این کتاب پر از اسامی جدید بود که اونقدر نامأنوس بودن و بعضاً بی کاربرد و بیهوده و یا بسیار بد که آدم با هم گاهی قاطیشون میکرد و در ذهن جا نمی گرفتن. من این حس رو داشتم؛ بیشتر هم درمورد جن ها این مسئله رخ داده بود
پایان خوبی داشت و غافلگیرکننده اما شخصیت ها بعضاً تا لحظه ی آخر کاملاً خنگ باقی موندن!

Me ha gustado bastante. Mucho más que el primero.
Si es verdad que al principio se me costó algo y hubo partes que no me interesaron tanto , pero luego no podía dejar de leer porque se volvió todo interesante y entretenido.
Hay muchos momentos de acción y hay situaciones que incluso sufres con los personajes.
En relación con ellos me han gustado bastante. Creo que están bien desarrollados tanto los buenos como los malos. Aunque los malos son demasiado malos, a veces me desperaban y les cogía mucha tirria 😂.
Mis personajes favoritos siguen siendo Othello y Sylva aunque en este libro conocemos a Crees que me ha encantado, le ha dado un toque de humor al libro y lo ha hecho ameno.
Me sigue fascinando este mundo de fantasía de magos trabajando con demonios creo que es lo que más me gusta de este libro ver cómo trabajan en equipo, la unión que tienen y como se protegen.
En conclusión me ha gustado mucho el libro y con el final que tiene ya tengo ganas de saber cómo sigue esta historia que de momento me está gustando cada vez más.

Estoy en shock ahora mismo. Que final, madre mía que final. Necesito tener el tercero desesperadamente. Ha sido un libro muy adictivo desde el comienzo, todos los términos y todo el mundo creado por Taran Matharu ya lo tenía aprendido del anterior (que me encantó), y eso ha hecho que la lectura fluyera, además de que no tendremos un descanso en los sobresaltos y la tension que impregna toda la historia. Lo he leído en la Lc organizada por Eva de Another Geek Girl y ha sido increíble.
Muy pronto os traeré mi reseña.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and thought that as a whole, it was written in an enjoyable and thrilling way. Now, there might have been an 8-9 month gap between me reading the first book and this book, and I may have gotten distracted by the Wheel of Time and never got back to it since then, but hey, I did not know what to read next and I saw this on the Libraries shelves so I thought that I might as well pick it up again.
That being said, it did take me a while to get back into the book, and there are a lot of things that I no longer remember, I’ve read about 80-100 books since then. I did gradually remember some things, which was great, and I also saw that there was a map this time, which is awesome, as fantasy maps all need a good map, and I thought that the one is this book was done well enough.
The cover also continues to look amazing, so congratulations to the cover artist for doing a wonderful job, and also doing the book justice. Now, onto the actual review of the book.
Pretty much, it stays fast-paced and it is an absolute thrill to read, and despite the amount of time between the last book and this, I still was able to dig right into the ever flowing storyline. The book begins with Fletcher locked in jail, and the first quarter of the book is focused on him getting out of that situation, which while was not the most interesting, it did set out the sides and in what way the world is divided and it gives further backstory to many of the characters.
As I as I can remember, the characters are pretty much all the same, with Tarquin and Isadora still being the biggest pieces of garbage in the story. Fletcher and his crew are still fun to read about, though I will say that nothing particularly stands out about any of the characters and nobody has any significant traits that makes me really attached to any of them.
Some things also bothered me, such as why would the Empire of Hominum send first and second year graduates onto a mission that could determine the entire fate of their nation, when I am almost certain that there are far more experienced people out there to do such things. I suppose I can understand that this book is probably targeted to a younger audience that reads books with teenage heroes being incredibly awesome and saving the world, though it often can be horribly unrealistic at times.
The world building felt like something that heavily built on Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, in cases of orcs, goblins and elves, which is straight up copy and paste, the real world in naming things like Antioch and Kahn, and also Pokémon with the whole levels for demons, although this works when targeting to a younger audience, which it successfully does here, it just did not work out that well for me.
Full of thrill and action, that would be very suitable for people in their early teens. 7.5/10
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and thought that as a whole, it was written in an enjoyable and thrilling way. Now, there might have been an 8-9 month gap between me reading the first book and this book, and I may have gotten distracted by the Wheel of Time and never got back to it since then, but hey, I did not know what to read next and I saw this on the Libraries shelves so I thought that I might as well pick it up again.
That being said, it did take me a while to get back into the book, and there are a lot of things that I no longer remember, I’ve read about 80-100 books since then. I did gradually remember some things, which was great, and I also saw that there was a map this time, which is awesome, as fantasy maps all need a good map, and I thought that the one is this book was done well enough.
The cover also continues to look amazing, so congratulations to the cover artist for doing a wonderful job, and also doing the book justice. Now, onto the actual review of the book.
Pretty much, it stays fast-paced and it is an absolute thrill to read, and despite the amount of time between the last book and this, I still was able to dig right into the ever flowing storyline. The book begins with Fletcher locked in jail, and the first quarter of the book is focused on him getting out of that situation, which while was not the most interesting, it did set out the sides and in what way the world is divided and it gives further backstory to many of the characters.
As I as I can remember, the characters are pretty much all the same, with Tarquin and Isadora still being the biggest pieces of garbage in the story. Fletcher and his crew are still fun to read about, though I will say that nothing particularly stands out about any of the characters and nobody has any significant traits that makes me really attached to any of them.

Quite The Novel Idea ~ Words from the Clouds

Well now! Another cliffhanger. Who would've thought? I say that sarcastically because I totally expected it after the first book. I loved The Novice and I was sad when a lot of my friends didn't enjoy it as much. Still, it was one of my favorites that year so I was very happy when I got offered the chance to read the sequel. Did it disappoint? Maybe a tiny bit? But I still loved it?
I was very excited to dive back into this world and see Fletcher and Ignatius again. I was curious about what happened to them after that cliffhanger of the first book. I will not talk about any of that so that this review remains spoiler free for both books. I'll just say that this book starts about a year after the end of the first book. The first half was really slow for me. It was mostly court drama and council meetings and build up for what was to come. Even the second half of the story sometimes felt a bit slow to me. I think this is a common thing in the second book in a trilogy.
So for me, yes this one does suffer from Second Book Syndrome a little bit. But I didn't completely mind? Because I do like these characters and I'm excited to see where their story goes next all the time. I'm invested in their lives and I like this world. Yes, I've read better sequels, but I've also read a lot worse so all in all, this was still good. Because the last 100 or so pages really had me glued to the pages. And of course, the cliffhanger had me screaming in agony once again. I also appreciated that there was a bit of a recap in the first chapter because it has been a while since I read the first book and it was nice to have a reminder of what happened exactly. So even the court drama served a good purpose to me. I also appreciate the fact that there's not really a romance in this story. It's very refreshing!
Overall The Inquisition is a solid sequel that builds up the story and though slow at times, still leaves you wanting more in the end. If you enjoyed the first book, you should definitely continue reading this series. If not, you might want to give it a shot anyway to see if you enjoy the second book more.

The Inquisition is the sequel to The Novice and continues the adventures of Fletcher Wulf who became a summoner - a kind of magician capable of performing spells and summoning demon-like creatures as companions from something called the 'ether.' In The Inquisition, Fletcher must fight to prove his innocence of charges of attempted murder and treason while also trying to save the kingdom from invading orc armies. Oh, and also help unite the human, dwarf and elvish races while at it!
I really enjoyed this one. It took me a while to remember everything that had happened at the end of The Novice so everyone outside of Fletcher, Othello and Sylva were not familiar to me at first as I tried to place them in my head. This meant it took me a while to get into the story but once I did, I loved it. I really liked seeing how the (corrupt) courtroom worked and learning about the Tirumvirate and seeing King Harold and King Alfric. The Raleigh revelation literally had me speechless but I loved it! And I loved Athena of course.I really liked seeing more of the works outside of Vocans and more creatures like the Gremlins and more Orcs. The ending left me completely heartbroken at some things, and speechless at others. I need the next book now!!

Stunning!!
I like the way author has introduced us to characters in the previous book. Everything matches together as a jigsaw puzzle. The struggle that our heroes (Fletcher, Sylva and Othello) are facing reminds of real life problems, only set in Middle Earth world. Although sometimes, it feels overwhelming.
The pacing and narration is perfect as the previous book. I felt each and every chapter to be gripping and wanting to tell me more.
Apart from main story, I really liked that this book contained a map along with usual beastiary.
