With her mother dead and her father currently in prison awaiting trial for her murder, a pregnant Frankie is blamed for the tragedy and forced to live with her wideboy fiance, Jed O'Hara, in a trailer on his parents' land. Frankie struggles to adapt to their gypsy way of life, but when her daughter, Georgie, is born, things go from bad to worse. Jed's mother is a loud, brazen, domineering woman, who has always yearned for a daughter herself, and she begins to take over her baby granddaughter. Then one day the unthinkable happens. Sick to the stomach at her discovery, Frankie for once sees Jed for what he really is. She realises that the man she loves is not only heartless, but also violent and dangerous. Petrified for the safety of herself and her family, Frankie plots the ultimate revenge. But can she actually go through with it?

I don't want to say too much for fear of giving anything away but this was another awesome read. Literally couldn't put it down!

FRANKIE MITCHELL

Frankie has chosen her path in life but will she end up regretting it?

Farewell, ungrateful traitor!
Farewell, my perjured swain!
Let never injured woman
Believe a man again.
The pleasure of possessing
Surpasses all expressing,
But 'tis too short a blessing,
And love too long a pain.

JED O'HARA

As Frankie cried, her sobs were raw and pure.

"I dunno about you, Frankie, but I need a glass of wine first. Do you want one?"

"I've told you before, Alice, pubs are for the men to talk business and relax, a woman's place is the home. You know that, love."

With a father like Jimmy O'Hara, 'tis no wonder that Jed is the fucking way he is.

In the first book, I really didn't feel anything for Frankie but in this one she has grown on me a bit.

Off to start Book 3.

And of course, Stanley and Joyce were a hoot too!

You need to read the Mitchell & O'Hara series in-order. This is the second and it follows directly on from the first. Without reading the first you will be lost with this one.

After the climax of book one this starts off a little slow. I had no need to be concerned by this. You know the characters so well by now and are so drawn in to this brutal double-family saga that when the inevitable ultra-violence occurs it is that more hard-hitting.

I have been completely entranced by this series and cannot wait to start the third. This one is set in Essex and is looking much more at family issues than the gangster storyline. The story flies along after the initial chapters. There is no stopping it as the two separate families are pulled together by one relationship. What a relationship it is as well.

Basically, if you enjoyed the first you will love this one as well.

The more you read

The better it gets. It's true... you can choose your friends. But family... well you're stuck with them.
It's an excellent sequel. The plot just thickens. You'll be tempted to take sides.
It's really well written. Chambers keeps you on your toes.
Enjoy

My Review

You reap what you sow, Frankie Mitchell is finding that out. With her mother dead at the hands of her father after a case of mistaken identity, Frankie has gone to live with her gypsie boyfriend in his trailer with his family. Her father is in jail, she is pregnant and alone and quickly realises life with Jed isn't quite what she was expecting. With the harsh reality Frankie keeps it together for her family, until she discovers a secret that changes their life forever, Frankie isn't just Mitchell by name and Jed with discover that no one crosses her and gets away with it.

This is the second book in the series, if you haven't read the first you need to, it gives you all the background in the run up to this one. The O'Haras and Mitchell's have long had a feud and with the latest development things will never be the same. As with the first, this book deals with sex, bad language, murder, cheats, liars, homophobia, infidelity, love, relationships and that is just scraping the surface. Gritty crime, gangland's, turf war and old scores to be settled, another action packed story from Chambers. There are a few gasp out loud moments and you find yourself rooting for certain characters and almost screaming in frustration for the things you want to happen or be discovered. 4/5 for me this time, book three is already being cracked open as I pen this!

The second book in the mitchells and O'Hara's story and it is nail biting for me. Shocking in some parts but in a way that kept me hooked. Absolutely loved it and can't wait to read the next one. The story just followed on from the first and it flowed nicely like no jumping 20 years ahead in the story where everything has changed and it skips best part of the story it just skips on nicely and you can keep going with. It had my emotions screaming at the book near the end with anger at some of the characters at their actions but that was a sign I was proper in to the story. So can't wait for the final part of the story in book 3.

I get really lost in Kimberley Chambers books, all the way through her books she has me hooked from the start and getting nearer the end things escalate and my eyes cannot read the words quick enough. They will not be to everybody's liking, but to get to know the story lines the Trilogies must be read in order. (Mitchell's & O'Hara's) and (Butlers Family) and the Backstabber to be read last. Brilliant series.

This was a really good book and I enjoyed it more than the first book. It picked up from where the first one ended and was full of twists and turns along the way.
I can't wait to read the 3rd and final hook in the series to see how everything works out.

Great Read Book 2

I wasn't disappointed with this book at all the characters are great and for some reason as awful in the real world Eddie Mitchell is you can't help but love the guy I would recommend that you read the books in order as they won't make sense hence the reason I have put book 2 in the title.
I am a bit late to the party stumbling over Kimberley Chambers book s and I know they have been out a few years but she is now my second favourite author next to Martina Cole.
The price of the book £4.99 was very fair and worth the price.
If you are into old time London gangsters and don't mind a bit of violence and bad language this is the book for you, if you don't then it's not!!!!

Again, I wasn't let down.Another successful mind blowing book. Joey is such an evil minded bastard, he even puts Vinny Butler to shame. As usual though, the whole story line is just full of drama suspence and heartbreak. I just know I won't be able to put down the next one....I dont think I have ever read so many books in such a short time.

Brilliant, loved it. Couldn't wait to pick it up. Didn't realize it was part of a trilogy and this was the 2nd one. Def got to get the 3rd one now. If you like Martina Cole, this is a must. Good characters, you either loved them or you hated them. Awesome plot.

My, oh my! Considering that I only discovered KC a mere 3 months ago, I have managed to read all of her books including the latest release, the second in the trilogy of the Mitchell and O'Hara families. The upside to this is I have discovered a wonderful writer who has produced 5 absolute top notch books; however the downside is that I now have to wait a few months until the final part of the trilogy is released.

We pick up from where we left off with the Mitchell family in tatters. After Eddie Mitchell accidently killed his wife instead of Jed O'Hara he confesses and is awaiting his verdict. Frankie meanwhile is determined to make a go of it with Jed and is living with him and their children. Frankie's twin Joey is in his own relationship and is steering well clear of the family as he can't deal with all the upheaval.

Seeing as I read part one so recently the characters were still fresh in my mind, but even if there had been a long gap, you can't fail to remember these feisty families. KC has the knack of creating some real charmers in her books, and Jed has to be the worst yet. I detested him and his family but I like nothing more that loving or loathing characters, it's the sign of a great writer.

Not only do we meet both the Mitchell and O'Hara family again but we get to see the lives they are all living and what they are all up to, especially where the family business is concerned. As usual we are thrown in at the deep end with all of them and that includes the family feud still slowly simmering away. Frankie and Joey are now grown up and I loved the fact that we got to see a lot more of their personalities.

The plot itself is a continuation from the first book, although if you picked this up first by mistake it wouldn't make that much of a difference as you get quite a bit of background too. Having said that I always think the first part gives you the ability to build the characters up and have a bit of history on them. The plot is as fast and nail bitingly exciting as the last one, if not more.

I almost dragged the last few chapters out because I didn't want to finish the book as I knew I had a long wait until the next one. For those that read my reviews regularly you have heard it all before. For those that haven't I will say it again. If you haven't read Kimberley Chambers then I suggest you start....RIGHT NOW!

Once again KC you have produced a first rate book and you truly are a fabulous author, just keep `em coming girl!

'The Feud' is a rollercoaster ride of drama, mystery and violence - and the same can certainly be said for the 'The Traitor' and 'The Victim'.

Messrs Mitchell & O'Hara:

When what starts out as a turf war between notorious East End gangster Harry Mitchell, and traveller kingpin Butch O'Hara, turns into a blood feud between their sons (Eddie Mitchell and Jimmy O'Hara), things get messy!

With each new generation piling into the fight, and with every new action calling for a new reaction, they've all developed an appetite for revenge - but none more than Jimmy's youngest son: Jed O'Hara.

When Jed O'Hara comes of age, we finally realise that Butch and Jimmy were just the warm-up acts for the real bad guy of the series. Whilst they were distracting Eddie with their misdeeds, the devil was hiding in plain sight.

Jed O'Hara:

The cheerful and charming, smooth-talking, traveller who wins Frankie Mitchell's heart.

When we begin to see behind Jed's friendly facade, however, it becomes clear that he's a textbook psychopath - with a horrible secret.

Unlike Eddie, Jed doesn't have a big team at his disposal, but that's not his style. He keeps things simple, and doesn't live under his father's shadow. Jed's cousin Sammy is his loyal right-hand-man, and Jed's mother Alice O'Hara has a sixth-sense for trouble, which comes in handy on more than one occasion.

Jed's character is brilliantly devious, and it becomes increasingly difficult to imagine how he can ever be stopped. He is a scheming, sneaky and resourceful guy, who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

Frankie Mitchell:

Frankie and her twin brother Joey (the children from Eddie's second marriage), started off as just a couple of normal kids. Having been kept away from their father's business, they lived quite a sheltered and privileged life until their mother's untimely end.

Upon moving into Jed's trailer, however, Frankie realises too late that she's signed-up for a very different way of life. Unfortunately for Frankie, there is no chance of backing out because she's burned all of her bridges.

Nevertheless, things start looking up for Frankie when Jed moves their trailer onto Sammy's land and Frankie makes friends with Kerry, Sammy's partner.

Nothing ever goes well for long, of course, and when Frankie suspects Jed of cheating on her, her investigations lead to the horrible truth about Jed's secret.

Jed's Secret:

It's Jed's secret that sees Frankie end up in prison at the end of 'The Traitor', and this secret fuels even more disaster in the final book, 'The Victim'.

The secret concerns Eddie, but Frankie knows that if she tells her father, he'll do something impulsive and end up back in prison. This secret is also the thing standing between Frankie and her chances of seeing her children again.

Frankie is in an impossible position, but with a couple of unlikely allies, she tries to make things right. Things, however, never go according to plan!

The Last Word:

Joycie and Stanley are a hoot as always.

We see Joey's transition from the sidelines and his transformation into an indispensable character.

Ronny and Paulie become the side-show that Eddie could do without.

There are some births, a spattering of deaths, and a marriage along the way.

We're also introduced to a few new and interesting characters.

Kimberley Chambers masterfully weaves together this menacing Easter-egg hunt of a series!

So if you're an avid reader of crime fiction, a mystery junkie, or someone of the thrill-seeking persuasion, then you'll love the Mitchell & O'Hara series.

Thanks for reading!

Poor Frankie!

I downloaded this immediately after reading the first of this series, desperate to know what happened next in this tense gangland thriller. My initial feelings were for the characters, torn apart by grief, but none so much as much as Frankie Mitchell. With barely a second to mourn for her mother, she is cruelly wrenched from her family by fiancé, Jed O’Hara, who I absolutely loathed. I’d already learned (at the end of book 1) what a horrible bastard he was, but gets so much worse! With no respect for Frankie’s feelings, he is a controlling, promiscuous, misogynistic bully who treats her more like a possession than a person. But there are lots of strands to this story; the continuing saga of Joyce and Stanley, whose marriage is tested to the limit; whilst Joey risks everything to be with Dominic and Eddie is finding his feet in prison. With so much going on however, this 2nd book read more like ‘domestic noir’ than a crime thriller and at times I wished it would jog along a bit quicker - like how many times was Jed going to cheat on Frankie, lie and sweet-talk his way back, until she forgave him (again!) ?

That was until I reached the part with the tape recorder… a moment my breathing stopped as I sort of double guessed what was about to be discovered and boy, what a fantastic, terrifying chapter!

The last third of the book was brilliant, keeping me hooked for hours as I stormed as my way through to the end, just knowing I’d be cracking on with book 3, as soon as I’d finished. There are not many series I have read back to back, but this one is addictive.

I have suffered through the first two Butlers, and now the first two Mitchells books, although, to be truthful, I skipped about a third of This book and straight to the last chapter. The characters are all despicable, full of hate, but worst of all, thoroughly predictable. You can see every plot twist coming a mile away, with the one exception being Jessica's fate at the end of the first Mitchells book. I did enjoy reading about so much of South Essex where I used to live (I moved to New Zealand 20 years ago), and I have seen some carryings on with probably the worst being when a Traveller walked out of the Fortune of War on the A127 near Laindon, and came back in with a revving chainsaw because someone had innocently spilt his mother's drink. I can put up with dark characters when well written, like Linda La Plant and Martina Cole (I once went to a party at Martina's house in Benfleet — she has an amazing garden), but this author's characters are universally vile, and I want to forget I ever exposed myself to them.

Enjoy the Ride

Still a page turner and this sets up the final instalment. Just when you thought the feud between the Mitchell’s and the O’Hara’s was calming down more secrets are revealed and there are still more to come - I cannot wait. I read the books about the Butler’s and Kimberley Chambers makes references to the Mitchell’s but it is definitely worth reading the books to get more depth and information about the characters. If murder, revenge and tragedy are your kind of thing this book has it all.

Book two in this fantastic trilogy showed no signs of slowing down. There is so much content which would make for a gripping TV series. There are times when I could lose it with Frankie and how she believes things are going to get better for her. Jed Is one hell of a toxic character, but without him we wouldn’t be where we are with this second instalment. Kimberley Chambers is fast become favourite author, her ability to lure you into the lives of her creations is a credit to her. I’m very excited for the next instalment.

This was the most amazing sequel. Just like the first one it was packed with drama and I could not put it down. It makes you want to know the Mitchell’s!

I was rooting for Frankie the whole way through and hated Jed more and more with every page. The Mitchell’s are all brave and in their own way hilarious (especially Joyce and Stanley).

I’ve already started book 3 which I’m so excited for but I’m also sad that I’m coming to the end of this amazing trilogy

WOW! What a book. Second installment to Mitchell/O'Hara series. Loved it. Stanley gets his sexy on with Pat the Pigeon, that was so funny. Great characters, amazing story. Can't wait to start the third in the series. I'm glad I bought all three together because if I had to wait for each one to be published, I would be so pissed off!. Highly recommend.
