The exciting sequel to 'A Faded Star' continues the stories of the humans of Lashmere. Shifting alliances throw the diplomatic situation into chaos. In this second of a planned five novel series, you will find out what's happened to the survivors of the expeditionary force, who's manipulating the Alliance and, finally, what the true motivations of the frightening crabs are. Can Admiral Stokes and his naval commanders prevail against a rapidly shifting tapestry of potential foes? Humanity is in for its greatest challenge yet in 'A Faded Star 2: The Deadly Pact.'
I am really pleased about how good this series is. I am guilty of judging books by the cover as I am sure from time to time we all are. I was not moved at all by this series covers and had not really given them a 2nd look until a friend of mine read them first. They were extremely effusive in their praise of this series. When I read the 1st book I immediately bought the rest of the series and started reading this one right away. If you like space operas then this series should be on your list. Give it a read you wont be disappointed. This is a series so you definitely need to start with book 1 or you will have no idea what is going on in this book. This book picks up a little before the end of the last book with what was going on with some other characters that you did not find out what happened to in the first book then continues the story of book 1.
First book started a very promising concept and approach. This book totally disappointed me. Filled with extraneous subplots and silly premises, it was obviously puffed up to make a four book series. Didn't meet my mom standards for believability so I'm giving this series up before I waste any more time on it.
I'm pretty hooked on this series. Bummer I jumped in so early on, I've got a long wait for the next book I can't wait for. I can't believe this is only Michael Freeports second book, he writes like a pro. he is going to be a writer to watch.
I enjoyed the first book, the premise was interesting, looked forward to the sequel, but I had to put it down when I read a "flag officer" respond to a tactical summary with "wow!"
