Primal Pleasure is the third book in Sydney Somers’ ‘Pendragon Gargoyles’ series. In the first book, we learn that Cian has been cursed by a Sorceress and that he has remained in his stone form for a century because of it. His brothers and sister are desperately trying to find the Sorceress who cursed him in order to have him set free. In the second book, we find out that the Sorceress has been captured – or so they thought. *da da dummm* Primal Pleasure is all about when and how Cian is finally set free. But he’s not freed the way we assume he’ll be freed. *da da dummm*

This is a paranormal romance series, so that means that each book focuses on the hero and how he finds his mate. I mentioned this in my review of the first book, Primal Hunger, but it’s worth mentioning again. I especially love it when the hero in a PNR book is a shifter or another paranormal type whose animal instincts take over when finding their mate. The whole “Mine” aspect of it. The whole “I’ll chase you but never doubt that I WILL catch you” aspect of it. The whole “I need to mark you with my teeth so the whole world knows who you belong to” aspect of it. It makes me all tingly just thinking about it. Well, this book was like the first book when it came to the ‘animal leading to capture his mate’ part and I was happy about that. I’m not sure why I like that so much. Maybe it’s because I want Jason to bite me and leave his mark on my neck for all to see…including my mother. And my father. Okay…maybe not.

Cian, being that he was “asleep” for the past century, has a little catching up to do once he wakens. It’s cute how we see him trying to adapt. Some of the conversations he has with Emma made me giggle. I also enjoyed reading Emma. She is a sorceress who is lacking in the magic department. I found her to be strong even though she feels weak. And her friend and the whole twist with that!…didn’t see that one coming. That was pretty cool.

The only thing that sort of bugged me while reading this was, as I understand why Emma wasn’t telling Cian that she’s not the one who actually cursed him, I don’t know why it took her so long to finally tell him. Or for him to figure it out on his own for that matter. It didn’t bother me enough that I was cursing the book and wanted to give up on it, I just found myself wondering a little more than I think I should have.

In any novella, I always wish there was a little more information into the background of the main characters and into what makes them tick. I didn’t feel at a loss or anything while reading about Cian or Emma, I just wish there was a little more. But what I read did keep me interested. I liked reading about these two and I liked them together.

If you’re wondering if I enjoyed this one more or less than the other books in the series…well, I’ve enjoyed them all pretty much equally. I find they are similarly well paced and well planned. I enjoy the family that is the center of this series and I like the world that’s been built.

What I’m really looking forward to is book 4, Primal Temptation! At the end of Primal Pleasure, there’s a twist involving Briana…and now I MUST know what’s going on with that! But I have to wait, like the rest of the world, until Summer of 2011 to find out what’s up.

With sorceress twins Elena and Emma, you can pretty much count on Elena causing huge problems with her strong powers and Emma paying the price for her sister’s transgressions, over and over. Seems the latest fiasco that Emma gets caught up in is being mistaken once again for her sister who just happened to curse Cian, a Pendragon Gargoyle to remain in his gargoyle form for eternity. It’s been around one hundred years and his siblings think they finally have the sorceress and they plan on tormenting her until she releases their brother. When Cian is released, it wasn’t because Emma did anything, except maybe touch him and liked it, a lot. Confused and weak, Cian feels the need to protect Emma from everyone, even his family. Is his desire just that Emma is attractive and, face it, he hasn’t been with a woman in decades, or is there more? Will Emma ever convince Cian she is not her sister, that she did not curse him? The path to honesty is fraught with tension of every kind as their magnetic attraction threatens to overcome their good senses.

Primal Pleasure by Sydney Somers is probably the most endearingly sweet of the series, with its out of touch hero, fumbling with modern technology and idioms and its quirky and almost powerless heroine, who has once again, fallen victim to her sister’s impulses. Emma is one of the most adorable sorceresses I have ever met (yeah, because I know so many)with a huge heart and some pretty rotten luck when it comes to her sister. But WHY doesn’t she just come clean about Elena? Is it sisterly loyalty or is there more to the story?

Fast and fun, filled with smirk-inducing moments, sweltering scenes and the ever-present chain, I blazed through this addition to the Pendragon Gargoyles, loving every single page! Sydney Somers had her magical pen working overtime on this one!

This novella was a lot of fun to read and there’s tons of content for so few pages. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a quick and enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. Primal Pleasures has engaging characters, juicy action and a fast-paced story. I’d be hard pressed to pick a favorite out of the Pendragon Gargoyles series. They’re all great, which makes the entire series a must-read.

Cian wakes up after having been locked in stone for a century. It was neat experiencing the 21st century through his eyes. Imagine finding yourself in today’s world after having been living back in the horse and buggy days in what feels like only moments ago. I couldn’t help but giggle while he struggled to understand the microwave or got addicted to Looney Tunes. He’s a very serious, manly character so seeing him fascinated by the simplest technology softened him up a bit and made Cian out to be a very likable character.

The sizzling action between Cian and Emma is intense. You’ll definitely find yourself feeling a little restless after certain chapters! This installment also expanded on Sydney Somers’ version of Fae which was well-done and a great addition to the storyline.

My first gargoyle book and I have to say, I really enjoyed it! The mythos with the shifters being connected to King Arthur lore - it was a very entertaining premise!

Two minor flaws - I was surprised she forgave her father so quickly. And I hated the time jump after the battle. We spent the entire book waiting for them to find out their mates and then we missed those moments where their lives truly become entwined. I was sad that the good stuff was cut out. A few tweaks and it really would’ve tugged at my heartstrings.

I got this for free on a Stuff Your Kindle day and I honestly think it’s the first good book I’ve chosen on that day. I’m not sure if I’ll backtrack and start the series from the beginning or jump to the next book in the series at some point in the future, but I’m not ruling it out! Definitely a fun and unique premise.

What an awesome story with wonderful characters. It is full of fun, surprises, betrayal, danger, drama, mayhem, and magical creatures. With lots of crazy twists and turns, chaos, and deep love of family and friends. Protecting her twin is getting out of hand, this time she may have gone to far! His family demands she free him, but how can she it was her sister’s magic that froze him, (being mistaken for her identical twin gets her in so much trouble.) When she escapes, he comes after her. Will he help her find her twin before it is to late? Running out of time will they be able to save each other, rescue her twin, and prevent her from having to marry someone else. Or is it to late for them?

Emma is always taken for her twin, Elena, and it's getting old. Now she is chained to a gargoyle for the last three days but the worst thing is he is waking up.
Cain would do anything to get his hands on the sorceress that cursed him in his gargoyle state for the last century. When he wakes to find Elena the sorceress that cursed him, he would do anything to repay her generosity.
I enjoyed this book just as I'm enjoying this series. The series has it all from King Author and his round table to shifters to fae and a great plot and complex characters you can't help but fall in love with.

Just wow!

Looking for suspense? Or maybe romance or danger and action. Well, you've chosen the right book! I couldn't put this story down, and I tried. I had a couple of other books to read and review, but since I had already started reading this one, l failed at that task. This is a great and sexy book!

I love this series, and this is a particularly good one.
A gargoyle soldier from King Arthur's guard has to come to terms with his attraction to the sorceress he believed trapped him in his stone form or 100 years and fun, danger, mayhem and steamy interludes follow.
This was an all round fun story.

Good, solid, but predfictable

I'm not joking, the entire time I'm reading this book, I've got Adele's Water Under the Bridge going through my head. I'm really not sure which came first, but one or the other owes at least a mention to the other

Good book

Emma is in trouble because of her and the magic she uses. Emma finds herself chained to Cian, a gargoyle who was part of King Authors Guard. And so the adventure begins. A must read with a HEA.

I never suspected Emma was half Fae or the surrogate aunt was actually their Fae mother. I'm glad Cian got over his hatred real fast and claim Emma as his mate.

Locked away

Cian was locked away for a century before being near Emma freed him from his prison. It took an attack, kidnapping and an arranged marriage before it became clear they were mates.

Oh my god! I loved Primal Pleasure! A seriously great read that was full of adventure, seduction and mistaken identity. Primal Pleasure was such a fun addictive read that I read it super quickly and even snapped at my boyfriend to leave me alone while I was reading it! Emma is such a great character constantly been mistaken for her twin sister Elena she always ends up cleaning up her sister’s messes after she gets dragged into them because Elena just wants her sister to have fun. Now she’s stuck tied to a cat shifter that’s in stone form, and she will be until either she manages to wake him up or convince his family that she’s not who they think she is. Only she does nothing but talk to Cian in his stone form and he magically comes to life and Emma is free. But instead of running away from Cian she takes pity on him and tries to help him only to end up tied to him again and he’s got more in his mind than revenge on the female that cursed him. Eventually Emma gets free but now she’s got more problems than her sister’s messes, luckily for her Cian isn’t letting her get away.
Seriously Primal Pleasure was a lot of fun to read and I imagine it was to write too! Cian is a great, sweet character who’s been trapped in stone for centuries and now he’s awake he’s in a time he doesn’t understand but the only thing that makes sense to him is Emma and he refuses to let her get away from him. I enjoyed the storyline between Emma and Cian and enjoyed seeing more about Emma’s family and Cian’s and their mates and how they’ve come along since there books.

Favourite Quotes:
“God, how many times would she get stuck with the crap end of the stick before she let Elena dig her own way out of trouble? Problem-solving just shouldn’t be that complicated for such an incredibly gifted sorceress.”

He dragged his shirt over his head and tossed it behind him. “Whoa there, Chippendale. Let’s keep this PG rated.”

Overall, I LOVED Primal Pleasure and I can’t wait for more books in this series to come out.

Emma has been cleaning up her twin sisters messes for longer than she can remember. Half Sorceress, Half Fae, she is not as powerful as her twin, and at most times her powers are sketchy at best. So how does she manage to undo the curse that Elena has placed on Cian, encasing him in a stone prison for over a century? Why does she feel so connected to the dangerous shape-shifter who seeks revenge for the curse? Even though telling Cian and his family the truth, that it was not her, but her sister that caused the curse, might gain her her freedom, she needs his help in tracking her down after she is captured by a dangerous and deadly sorcerer. Can she trust Cian with the truth and with her heart?

Cian cannot believe that after over a century that he is finally free, and to be finally holding his mate is a bonus. But when his family tells him that Emma is the one that cursed him, he begins to doubt the cat inside him. She cannot truly be his mate, she must have enchanted him into believing it is true. He needs her to remove the spell before he and the animal inside him become so separated that he losses himself for good. If helping her track her sister is the only way to remove the enchantment, then he will do what it takes. Can the animal within convince Cian that it is not majic, but fate that rules his heart before he loses Emma forever.

Ok, this is the third book in the Pendragon Gargoyles Series and it does not disappoint. What I loved most about Emma and Cian's relationship is that they were so unsure of it, thought that it was an enchantment, yet it was still somthing so primal and ingrained that neither could deny it. I loved how protective that they each were about the other, Cian wanting to protect Emma at all cost, Emma trying to keep from pulling Cian deeper into her sister's problems. Emma was the so very relatable. She was strong and fierce, yet there was a vunerablity about her that just made you want to help her. Cian's confusion about the world around him (after being trapped in stone for a century you would be confused too) lead to some extremely funny situations. Together, Cian and Emma gave each other something that each of them were missing, Cian gave Emma the confidence that she needed to truly use her powers. Emma gave Cian the love that he didn't even realize that he was missing in his life. They SCORCHED the pages of this book with their passion and chemistry and the ending to their story was truly majical.

Cian is a feline shifter who is at odds with his instincts. After a century of being trapped in his gargoyle form, for no sins of his own, he emerges to discover that the sorceress believed to be the one whom imprisoned him is also the one woman his cat adamantly insists is his mate.

Convincing himself that the intense desire for Emma and conflicting need to protect her when he should be hating her is a result of some spell, Cian gives chase when Emma flees his family's home all the way to Las Vegas.

Emma knows it was her twin sister, Elena, who cursed Cian, but for reasons that are beyond my capabilities to accept she never reveals the truth to Cian. Instead, she uses him to find her sister after Elena is captured for insurance that Emma will go through with the arranged marriage her father set up for her. Along the way both Cian and Emma surrender to the passions between them. Whether the feelings they're having are real or the influence of some twisted spell begins to matter not.

Chapter three had me in tears with laughter. When introducing a man to a laptop for the first time, do *not* mention porn. I mean, come on. Welcome to an awkward conversation.

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.

Cian's and Emma's story is great. Some great LOL moments - I especially enjoyed the scene where Emma was driving and took one hand off the wheel. It was genuinely fun.

Ms. Somers is a great author. She every bit as capable as writing novels on the scale of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. But, it's as though the very design of the books themselves prevent it. The best example I can give for what I mean is found in the 2nd book of this series. During the last pages of the book, just when the story could have gone on much longer (more to enjoy) it ended. Instead of learning more about the adventures related to achieving the dagger the story just ends.

Series are clearly no problem for Ms. Somers - which is high praise as far as this reader goes because she knows how to write them WITHOUT obnoxious storyline repetition.

Hence it seems the story outline as they're written are limiting the amount of story that can be told. Yes, I think that summarizes my point best.

Anyway - The only reason I give this series "good book" ratings is because while they have the potential to be much much more.... they aren't. BUT having said that... I recommend everyone of Ms. Somers books I've read so far. I'm sure you'll enjoy them. Have fun. :)

This Series isn't disappointing. Another great instalment.
This one follows the eldest brother Cian, who had been trapped by a sorceress in stone for over 100 years.
Sorcha and Cale believe they finally found the sorceress at the end of book 2, but she keeps insisting she cant reverse the spell.

Why? Because they got the wrong sister. Yup, twins. It was Elena who did the spell, and they captured Emma who has minimal magical powers so cannot do anything.
They chain her to Cians gargoyle state and after a few days she actually touches it....to find it grow warm.....within minutes Cian had been released from the stone!

Cian immediately feels the draw to Emma.
But Emma wont give her sister away and lets the Pendragons believe that she is the sorceress who did the spell.

Cian fights with anger with the false knowledge and the cat bursting at the seams inside him to go to Emma, protect her and make her his.

The revelation of Elena comes about when Emma is captured by gargoyles working for a powerful sorcerer who she was promised to wed.

Wont say any more!
But am really loving this series!

Yet another cute story. Cian and Emma make a wonderful couple, Emma with insecurities and Cian with his supreme self confidence. They balance each other perfectly. In this book, the story of the daggers and how each character are connected to each other unfolds. I have always found an interest in the lore of King Arthur so I will be looking forward to future development of this part of the story. For now, I can't wait to read the next book. Assuming it is about Briana, it seems she will have many obstacles in her way as she pursues her mate. **SPOILERS** Only thing I had a difficult time with is accepting Emma's father after how he treated her when she was young. He was a part of her lack of self confidence and I felt he was too quickly accepted after he was trying to marry her off.

Book three in this paranormal series continues the story of immortals that have existed since the time of Camelot and in keeping with the series there is a soul mate to be found and claimed. But, how can a cursed shifter turned to stone 80 years previously have the curse lifted so he can return to normal? Well, that is what this story is all about. Cian and Emma have much to overcome during their time together including wraiths, shifters, sorcerers, dragons and time spent in the catacombs of Avalon. There is a twin sister, a curse, lost parents, a betrothal gone awry, magic and a whole lot more. If you are someone that likes a well written paranormal story this could be the book for you.

I really love the way Sydney sucks the reader into the book. I found myself overwhelmed by what Cian must be going though when he woke up and the world had changed around him so much. Her attention to detail is fantastic. I enjoy seeing the love(and lust) unfold between each couple in this series. As always a really page turner!
