Basic Overview but Rambling & poorly edited

The information in this book appears to be correct and up-to-date, but there are so many typos and strings of nonsense (sentence fragments and random keystroke sequences) scattered throughout the text that it seems not to have been edited or even proofread. Because of the wordy and redundant prose style, there is far less content than you’d expect for the number of pages in the book. In the Kindle version, the resources guide is very useful, though, containing links to breeder web sites etc. I liked that the author attempted to cover the entire lifespan of the Rottweiler, but a glaring omission in the section on common health problems was osteosarcoma, the #1 cause of death for Rottweilers. I would also have liked to see more information about service dog programs that are well-suited to Rottweilers as well as carting, agility, and other activities besides dog shows.

Mark Mansfield’s Bible is an essential read for anyone contemplating owning or wishing to understand Rottweilers. The stigma of violence associated with this dog is based on misconceptions assigned to the breed and to dogs in general. The author provides a comprehensive description of this otherwise goofy and fun loving family of canine. The point being, as Mr. Mansfield quite rightly points out: Bad owners create bad dogs.
The writer owns Rottweilers himself. His knowledge of the breed is first hand. I have a friend with three and I’ve watched these enormous lunks attempt to perch on his knee as if they were chihuahuas so I can vouch for what the author describes which is different from public perception.
“Sometimes around 74 AD, the Roman army travelled across the Alps into what is known as Southern Germany. There, the drover dogs were used for the next two centuries for herding and guarding cattle.” There was a town in the region, he tells us, named Rottweil. He follows this working dog’s history, describing the motivations for breeding, the variety of breeds in detail, up until the present age. He provides a comprehensive list of up to date Rottweiler resources.
Mr. Mansfield is an advocate for dogs in general and the right attitude of human owners. He explains why, better than most, that selecting a dog is such a personal choice and a two-way street as far as the dog is concerned as well: One is essentially inviting a “dog person” (my word), with its very specific personality traits, into one’s home. He provides the reader with more than enough information to decide whether this dog person would be a good match. The author’s writing, his language, is personable; you feel that he is actually speaking to you in the same room and not only that, really wants you to understand what he’s saying.
I’ll point out that in all his books, Mr. Mansfield addresses the institution of the puppy mill, where profit is more important than dog well-being. His explanations and insight into the commerce of dogs and dog selling are eye opening and disturbing.
Mansfield covers all the territory the other books do: Breeding, Grooming, Training, Nutrition, and Health Issues. In each case, the treatment his complete guided by experience as to what is most important aspect of each category. This would be an essential book for prospective Rottweiler owners.

Mark Manfield's Rottweiler: The Rottweiler Bible is a must have for all humans. This breed of dogs is one of the most misunderstood dog breeds. Rottweilers are given a bad reputation due to their built, looks, and behavior. Like any dog, Rottweilers can be trained by their owners to behave in favorable ways. Rottweilers can be super protective but also super sweet. This well-organized book details the care and breed of Rottweilers. I love how it takes you step-by-step through the puppy to adult stages and gives readers like me everything they need to know first hand. This is also a great read for those who know nothing about the breed besides the misconceptions. I highly recommend reading this educational book on Rottweilers. Mark Mansfield's book is thoroughly developed and well-done. I cannot wait to read up on the other dog breed books.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

This book, while vaguely helpful, does not live up to its title. The author is no expert, rather he is a Rott owner and enthusiast. There are no credible sources cited anywhere in this book, rather opinions that the author has clearly collected over the years the he feels bear repeating. The sources provided at the end are a list of hyperlinks. It spends whole chapters talking about the different types of dog a rott can breed with (spoiler: any of them), and then spends 2 pages talking about training without giving any concrete examples or advice. It is also not well written, with the author saying things like “and in this chapter I’ll tell you all about it!” It basically reads like a first draft written by one of my high school freshmen. And I would like to offer to edit this book for the author if he is interested in re-releasing it.

Not Very Helpful

As a seasoned dog owner the information was too general and I felt like the reading level was aimed at a young junior audience. Maybe something the subtitle like "for the novice dog owner" I didn't feel like it was worth 10 bucks.
