Infinity's Edge

Rate this book
Earth’s time is running out.

Sixty years ago a plan was conceived to help humanity survive its first contact with an alien race. Now it’s time to put that plan to the test. No country can stand alone. The world must unite if there is to be any hope of survival.

Commander Kaylan Farrow and her crew are investigating an ancient alien signal from beyond the fringes of known space. After months of searching, the Athena is starting to wear down. It’s only a matter of time before a catastrophic failure destroys their ship, but if they return to Earth now, Kaylan knows that humanity will not survive their first contact with hostile aliens. They must find the source of the signal and with it a means to end this war before it has a chance to reach Earth.

Infinity’s Edge is the fourth book in the Ascension space opera series. The crew of the Athena will risk everything to unravel the mystery of an ancient alien race whose wars nearly destroyed the galaxy. On Earth, people must accept that the world as they knew it is gone. The Xiiginns are coming to pull Earth into the crosshairs of an interstellar war.

Great book

Book 4 of this series continues where the last one finished. We see the crew of the Athena searching for the Dars, but finding them is not what they expected. The Boxans, and the Xilgins have found the SOL system, and battle has commenced. Will earth with the help of the Boxans beat off the Xilgins fleet? I am looking forward to book 5.

"Flying Dutchman" Spaceship Continues Deep Space Adventures

"Infinity's Edge (Ascension Series Book 4)," continues the well written, deep space adventures of the "Athena's" crew. The author, Mr. Ken Lozito, writes a cogent, coherent, SciFi story that moves fast, has few "speed bumps" to slow a reader, and knows the value of employing both a competent editor and proofreader.

In near contemporaneous time, the story has the Earth near space vessel "Athena," with its small crew, still in deep space, tethered to an allied alien ship. Both crews, human and Boxans, try to move from skeptical allies of convenience, to trusted allies, as they search for an ancient alien race's remnants, in order to combat and defeat their shared enemy. On Earth, the various governments upon being informed of alien life and impending threat, go through the fits and starts of establishing a joint space Earth Defense Force.

"Infinity's Edge," is an "old school" SciFi saga. It is simple, without being simplistic, well written, and the author does not get caught up in the weeds: he just tells an entertaining story. The characters (human, alien, and AI's) overall have substance, the plot moves forward with negligible hiccups, and action scenes are not empty-headed number dumps of weapons deployed, as in so many eBooks of the genre.

The caveat remains, that while "Infinity's Edge," can be read as a stand alone, new readers to the series will be at a disadvantage in comprehending much of the plot lines.

The eBook is recommended and was fully read via Kindle Unlimited.

Feminist dogma agenda

These books are not only short and boring, they seem to be written purely to push a feminist agenda. Everything is about female empowerment and females ruling the worlds, and a female ascending to godhood.. And more feminist conditioning.

Ridiculous. Don't you realize your audience is predominantly male?
Our society is already full to brim with feminism in every movie, TV show, talk show, magazine, and now book...
--People who read Sci-fi and Fantasy are trying escape reality, not read about a worse reality. --
Boys and guys need empowering too! The world constantly pushes males down and constantly lifts females up... How is a boy to prosper in this society? There's no happiness for guys, its all about girls. Can you imagine a boy without a father in this society? A good father to shield him and help him grow and retain some confidence? That boy becomes a complete victim of a female society that fully conditions him to the feminist agenda. And sadly most fathers totally fail in this anyway because they're already brainwashed and weak. A strong father is the only way a boy can grow up with any amount of real confidence. Failing that, at least he could read some books to help teach him... But no, not anymore... Almost every book I read now is feminist. It's not my idea of enjoyable and I've had enough.
Women rule society, and most rule their husbands- like this author evidently. There are enough women to push their own agenda without you doing it for them.
Just write a dam book! And write it for your audience to enjoy! Not condition and force them to some present societal agenda. Books are supposed to be forever, its a terrible idea to base fiction around contemporary agendas.

Highly Recommended: Book & Series LOOK FOR BOOK #5 COMING SOON!

I thought that Infinity's Edge would be the conclusion of this wonderful science fiction epic, but luckily, at least one more volume is planned. Lozito's Ascension series is one of the better space opera epics that I have ever read. He keeps a venerable and traditional story form vibrant with plot twists and unexpected complications. I have really enjoyed reading this story, so far. Lozito's skips back and forth from intimate conversations to large-scale battles, allowing both the protagonists and their antagonists a voice. In using this strategy, Lozito demonstrates mastery of a refined writing technique that many SF authors never achieve.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: AS AN EXPLORATION/ MILITARY SPACE OPERA EPIC

Another episode in the series proves to be a good read.

The crew that originally went to Pluto to investigate an anomaly, and encountered aliens, wormholes, planetary fights, and galactic threats, continues on their scramble to save all good beings.

It's not super-critical, IMO, to provide much detail about plot arc, or character development in a review here. After all, this is book 4 in the series, and if you don't know the plot & characters by now, you're in trouble.

But it is worth saying that the author has definitely hit a stride, and this is a good installment to read. Five stars, given my book rating guidelines.

This entire series has been an absolute pleasure to read. It does sometimes read like a "nerd's dream come true," because a lowly geek from out of nowhere gets drafted into the ultimate space exploration, gets with - not just one - but two beautiful women, and in the end, he saves the entire galaxy from the scourge of a very ruthless, and powerful enemy.

Putting that aside, the technology is great, the unexpected camaraderie between Zack, and Itanu serves the story well, and Mr. Lozito has produced nothing less than a world-class series, here!

As the story bifurcates it interleaves between the struggle to unite a divided Earth and an epic odyssey undertaken by the crew of the Athena. As with a lot of Lozito's work, sometimes the 'science' requires a bit too much imagination, or more accurately, ignorance (e.g. the passive scan 'burst'?!); and the aliens can too often be a bit Star Trek (read, 'humans in latex suits'). However, none of the more obvious deficiencies detracts from the strong characters and decent (albeit trope ridden) plots, that have made the series a comforting and enjoyable yarn.

Did not make sense at times

These are not actual books but rather chapters in a book the have been fluffed up to have enough volume to be sold as separate books ,a clever technique of revenue engagement used by many authors .This "books" were available in Kindle unlimited ,otherwise I would never had paid for all of them.I wonder if the author even read all the fluff he wrote and say " you know what , given the narrative I set up, this does not make sense ". I suspect he did but did not care, since the intent was not to create a serious work but rather to create a payday.

Another winner by Ken Lozito

Community's Edge by Ken Lozito is another sci-fi military action-adventure, the 4th book in his Ascension series. While I enjoyed the overall story, there were parts that seemed pointless, for example, two ships battling to a draw. Fun battle, but what is the point if nobody wins? Regardless, this is another fast and fun read. I strongly recommend it to others who enjoy military sci-fi.

Brilliant

Humankind's first contact with alien species. Brilliantly written. I loved the cast of characters. And the story line made me wish I was with them on their journey, because it was a journey, not just a space war full of on going battles. The was no one 'hero'! The were all heroes in their own ways, including the aliens. I am heading into amazon now to buy book 5. I dont want this journey to end. Thank you, Ken Lozito, for bringing us a very realistic space opera.

Eh.

This series is slowly edging towards "eh" for me.

I think the moment happens towards the end of the book, when there's a major moment that happens in the pages. I literally found myself having to go back, because I thought I had missed something.

It also contains the same problems I described in a previous review for the series. Awkward writing, repeating words within the same sentence.

First class sci-fi writing!

Lobito is a first class sci-if author. He is excellent at developing believable characters and entertaining plots that mesh together well. He doesn’t spend a lot of time detailing alien tech or battles, but the focus on character interactions more than makes up for it.

Space sci-fi

When the Athens left earth to investigate an alien structure on Pluto they had no idea they would travel unknown galaxies to infinity's edge and back, meeting new species along the way. In their search for Drar they find the remnants of an ancient city and lose one of their own. Back on Earth the Boxans come to the aid of earth as the Xiingans attack.

A Real Page Turner

Excellent Character development which builds readers interest. Nice use of plot surprises and fresh space tech imagination. Less redundancy would improve readability -- eg towels not used for showers on ships and new descriptions of facial expressions and other mannerisms. Great work of sci fiction adventure overall. Leo

Good storyline. Athena crew still lost in space

Another fine and entertaining novel in the series. Zack and Redford still recuperating from Xiinging battle and captivity. One will be lost.

Brilliant keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Fast paced but keeps the human element in which grounds the reader to the emotional impact of meeting new species and being away from home.

How many species?

Will it never end? Well, guess in an infinite universe the question is answered.
Our "family" begins to trust each other against the worse threat.
As always, good reading!

Best Yet.

This is the best book of the series so far. Si-Fi is still a new area for me, but with the efforts of the author I am really enjoying it. I got started reading this series and can't stop yet.

Some science with dungeon and dragons mix.

The aliens appear to have developed with one human trait expanded to the detriment of all other traits. This leaves the humans as superior though not as advanced in the sciences.

Would make a great TV series

Agreed there are many Sci Fi tv series out there but I think Kens style is so different. It is possible to visualize the story as it is read and I would love to see this story brought to life

Better and better

Everyone has to read this series! It is well written and the characters become your friends. There has been some romance, some humor, some sadness, but mostly there is action and adventure.

The galaxy is big and so is time. Ken has attempted to make a sense of this in his writing here. This is again a rollercoaster of a story that keeps the reader engaged

Robert's Review and Comments

Whew, what a transition, Earth is good for the moment, but Mar Arden is still loose. Okay, Rest, Resupply and Rearm. Then Shoot, Move and Communicate to reduce them Xiiginns to dust. Thanks for a GoodRead.

Great book

It just keeps getting better and better, full of action and suspense. So action packed that I had a hard time just to put it down. Ken has a great mind, to come up with pictures of the solar system and other galaxies is just awesome. A great story.

Twists within twists. Amazing! I can actually remember the names of all of the characters. Are the nations of earth going to screw this up? Hopefully history won’t repeat itself.

Best one in the series yet, really enjoyed the others in the series too, but this one so far the best. The action, suspense, and less romance, made this book feel more compact and really drove the story forward. Can't wait to read the next one.

I read this as part of a volume set, so its difficult to distinguish one book from another. The storyline is the strongest part of these books. I wanted to know what was going to happen. 4 stars is a bit much, but certainly a solid 3 1/2.
