Best implementation of Fate Accelerated that I've read. Adds mantles (packages w/ stunts, and conditions that are similar to classes in other game systems, but are not as restrictive), improv. magic, and stats. for many of the characters relevant to Dresden.

I only ran FAE once, and my group didn't love it, we prefer the skills in Fate Core. That said, I'd like to try running this.

I really like Jim Butcher's Dresdenverse. And therefore the logical step as an roleplayer was to grab hold of Fate's Dresden RPG. But I have to confess that I'm new to Fate, I never GMed or played it. And OMG I was really overwhelmed by this stuff. But then I heard of DFA and it seemed as a solution to my problems. Shorter and more streamlined. I have preordered the book and then I have read the PDF. But a PDF is simply not a real book ;)
But not I have the book and read it. And it's much more to my liking than the TDF RPG. But I would like to have seen more examples, more mantles, more conditions and more stunts. It remains to be seen if Fate will be my RPG...
But the book in itself is wonderful. Written by Ivy, the Archive and with snarky remarks from Kincaid it was a fun experience to read for me. Ok, the TDF RPG was a little bit better with the comments from Harry, Bob and Will :)

The lightweight and more agile brother of the Original Dresden Files RPG.

I had GMed Dresden Files when it came out. It was great fun (probably the most memorable games I ever ran) however the detail and complexity were just too high. The magic system was so hard, most of my players opted for playing scions and such. It required the GM (me) to help players with the system many times during play even after many sessions. Eventually I was burnt out and we moved on.

When Evil Hat decided to revisit Dresden Files, they chose to use the Fate Accelerated rules, which strips the game to just the essentials. For my group I think it has hit its most perfect form. Simple mechanics, all the flavor of the original game.

The game removed complex character creation with a simple but very flexible system. Using the concept of mantels of power which is an idea referenced in the books. It is a way defining sets of powers without the straight jacket of a formal class system.

The simplified rules also simplifies NPC creation, leaving just the essentials of what is needed to bring the NPC to life.

They created new FATE rules for conditions that I suspect will be making it to their future games, it simplifies the game while at the same time gives us a huge pallet that we can draw upon to enhance PCs and NPCs alike.

Like the previous book, the text is written as if it is in the game world. It considered rules for a game to allow a character from the book series to come up to speed on how the world of magic works.

Good introduction to the Dresden Files World, although better if you have some experience, and an even better introduction to the Dresden Files RPG and the Fate system. I can see this being the gateway for many people into both Fate and Dresden. Well written!

This is a well-written RPG manual:
• Eminently readable
• Strong examples
• Simple rules
• Good elaboration on the FATE Accelerated engine
Drawbacks:
• I did not care for the setting matter preceding the rules.
• More examples would have been nice. Possibly a second example campaign or a Replay?

Very complex system which was interesting to review.
I like how the engine works.
