She was promised to me. I was promised to her. She was the daughter of a drug lord, I was the cousin of one. Together we could have been beautiful. Oh, so beautiful. But beautiful doesn’t factor into my life. Death. Destruction. Pain. That was my life. She’d had her taste of it. But was she really ready for it? Because I lived in hell, and my wife would soon be Satan’s bitch. She wouldn’t be prepared. She could never be.
USA Today Best Selling Author T.L. Smith loves to write her characters with flaws so beautiful and dark that you can’t turn away from. Her books have been translated into several languages. If you don’t find her in her home town of Queensland, Australia you can usually find her travelling around the world to sitting on a beach in Bali, to exploring Alcatraz in San Francisco or walking the streets of New York.
I've been really enjoying this series mostly because of the alpha males and how obsessed they are about their women. I have to say I feel really let down by this one as I felt no genuine connection between the main characters even up until the end. The biggest let down was she was his wife and he allowed his boss (the guy from first book who I suddenly don't like as much) to have her taken away by a man to be used as his sex slave! He did nothing and said nothing to stop it because his family came first even before his wife which he had already admitted to her. I know they were newly married and he didn't love her then but she was his WIFE who did nothing to deserve such cruelty. He wasn't my type of hero and sadly because of that I couldn't get into this story. The 2* are for the witty banter between Death and Anton, they were hilarious together!

Defiance did not disappoint. This book is funny, disturbing, sexy and great.
Freya is a firecracker who is tired of being pushed around and used as a pawn make business deals.
Viktor is fearless and loyal. He follows orders even if he doesn't agree with them.
Freya and Viktor are forced to marry and they are not happy with the situation. Immediately after the wedding a series of fucked up events forces them to evaluate their feelings....they love and hate each other. But will love or hate win in the end?
I love all of the characters in this series. They are a strange and wonderful group that I love to read about.
If you once fall for one of Smirnov Bratva boys, you'll fall for all: 4 solid and well deserved stars! Love this book! So far this is the best of all three. With each book T.L. Smith improved the reading experience. Even though I really enjoyed reading all books of this series, Defiance is by far my favorite. Not only because I fell in love with Freya in the first book but also because the whole plot is almost flawless.
Freya is like a heroine in perfection. She's brave, fierce, dauntless. She knows exactly what she wants and has no problem to go for it. T.L. Smith did a great job forming Freya's character. Beneath the hard shell she's still a girl, a woman craving to be loved and understood. Freya is also funny, witty, easy going and has no shame saying what she thinks. I had a fun time joining Freya on her journey discovering herself and learning to stand up for herself.
Viktor. Oh my dear Viktor. You are only half bad-ass as you seem when we get a glimpse inside your head. You might look like a bad-ass, you might talk and fight like one and you might have learned since the beginning to follow orders without questions. BUT you are still a man. One that fell in love with a wonderful woman which is his perfect match. You only needed time to realize this.
T.L. Smith has the gift getting you hooked from the first pages to the last. Freya's and Viktors story is full of everything you can wish for in a mafia book. It's dark but also makes you smile, it is thrilling but you are not too frighted, it's romantic but also dramatic. Reading Defiance is intoxicating leaving you with the want for more.
I was so looking forward to Freya's story the little spitfire who could certainly put these scary men in their place.
From the moment Freya entered this series it was to be married off to kaizer but Keizer was bewitched by Elina and that wedding was never going to happen so with family tradition Freya had to be married off to someone and that someone was Viktor.
I like all these characters, Viktor was not a man of many words and he definitely didn't date women so when it was announced that they were to be married the love hate relationship began but I would say hate won out more in the beginning.
I felt for Freya being bargained off by her father, not having a choice, she is a woman who wanted normal, the romance, she had never gone on a date and although she obeyed her Father for the family name Freya certainly didn't yield to anyone else, when she unleashed her fury it came out guns blazing.
I love Freya's character and as the plot progresses Viktor definitely redeems himself.
Another brilliant read by T.L Smith, told in dual pov's with no intense heavy drama or violence. A good mafia romance that focuses mainly on the characters relationship.
This book made me so angry. So angry. And once I was angry, I never got back on board.
First of all, I've read all of the other books in this series. I've been reading about the heroine, Freya, and the hero, Viktor, for awhile now. I was excited to start their book. Freya has been the girl that's looked over, but she never lost her spirit. She's sassy and tough. Viktor, starting from book one in the series, liked that about her. He was taken in by her toughness and how she's unlike other girls he's known.
Then he fucking hands her over to a pimp who's going to bring her into sex slavery.
Yep. You read that right.
Viktor and all his friends give over Freya, knowing that's she'll be raped, abused, and maybe even eventually killed. Then Viktor sort of realizes he's maybe into her so he decides to make it right by buying her chocolate and attempting to walk her onto a plane filled with her other kidnappers (the rest of his friends).
I think I was supposed to feel bad for Viktor, who was trying to plan a nice trip for her and his friend as an apology. Fuck that. I wouldn't want to go anywhere with people who were willing to let me get raped.
Supposedly she forgives him and they live happily ever after but I never got back on board and was fuming the rest of the novel.

Defiance is a full fledged dark horse, of mixed desires, and mouth watering temptations! Which will kick you in your frickin gut and just keeps steamrolling along! Just like a fast moving train. That will plow into your bring, stealing your soul and ripping you to shreds! Just a fucktastic thrill ride of cosmic proportions!
This is the least favourite book of all by this author . Did not like Freya in previous book and definitely not in this book , no connection between victor and her and it all felt forced .
This series just keeps on getting better and better. This book starts right off where book 2 finishes off. Right from the first book it's known that Freya was to be married to Kazier but then Victor is selected as the one for her. Obviously she always hated this so called not able to make her own decisions thing as she hates that she's always treated as a property. Enter Victor, he's exact opposite of Freya. He's quiet, likes to watch people and pay attention to details. It's all going good as good as can be expected but there's this extreme thing that Victor does that has Freya feeling extremely hurt and losing her trust completely. Honestly I WAS OH SO ANGRY WHEN THIS PARTICULAR THING HAPPENED. I WAS ANGRY WITH THE BRATVA GANG AND ESPECIALLY WITH VICTOR AS TO HOW COULD HE DO IT. Although he does try hard to win her back I was super super angry on him and even wouldn't have forgiven him. But I really liked Freya that she doesn't do games, is in your face with a temper to match if you ever cross her but also she has a really big heart. For me the hero of this story was undoubtedly Freya. So now right next into Anton's book. I really am curious about how his partner is gonna be, although I think we did get a snippet into who it's going to be but still he is such an easy going and at times annoying to his friends type of guy. Who doesn't really take anything seriously so yeah definitely curious and jumping right next to his story. Loved loved this one. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh Freya, what can I say about this girl. She's so unpredictably crazy. I love the relationship between Viktor and her, it's so funny the shit they do to each other. Anton had me pissing myself with his antics I'm glad he's getting a story he deserves one. I love the brotherhood of these men they maybe dicks to each other but they will always have each other backs. I enjoyed this book, it was great like the rest of this series.
2.5 stars and only because I really liked Freya. She can do SO much better!****Spoiler Alert**** I'm sorry but they do not make enough cupcakes for her to have forgiven him. The only thing she should have given him was the name of her divorce attorney. Sorry, I was really looking forward to this story after Death's which I liked, but this one really just made me angry.
Unfortunately, this is my least favorite book by this author. I just wasn't fully engaged, mostly due to Freya. I didn't like her in the other books and I definitely didn't like her here. I love Viktor though. I just didn't feel their connection.
I cannot think of a better title for this book. Its the perfect title. 'Defiance' is exactly what we get. From a woman pushed too far to someone who you'd least expect it from, and the repercussions that come with it.
I absolutely loved being back in the world of the Smirnov Bratva with the dark and delicious men that we have come to know and love.
All cold, ruthless and powerful men with women who are just as strong and powerful in their own way.
First Kazier and Elina, then Death ~sigh~ and Polly, and now...
Viktor and Freya.
Complete opposites who couldn't be more perfect for each other, they learn to skirt along the very thin line of love and hate.
"She's the opposite of everything I am. Where I'm quiet, she is loud. Where she is open, I am closed. I didn't understand her, but I knew I'd protect her with my life".
I loved watching Viktor and Freya's relationship grow throughout. Love, hate and everything in between TL spares no expense.
"I'm marrying a man I think is sin, delectable sin at that. He makes my heart race, he makes me angry, but most of all he gives me feelings I don't quite understand."
She sure knows how to write a bad ass bitch of a heroine, and Freya is that 110%!!!!!
"I'll kill every last fucking one of them. Making them scream, just the way I was taught and what's more is I will revel in it."
I love her. Absolutely fuckin love her!!! She was fiercely strong, took no shit from anyone and all round badass. She really gives the men a run for their money, that's for sure.
I adored this book. I really did! Hooked from beginning to end, I was not ready for the last page.
TL never fails when it comes to writing all consuming books which make you completely switch off to reality. She takes us on a delicious rollercoaster of pain, torture, death and mind fuckery all while making sure her hero's and heroines still get the ending they truly deserve.
I mean, no-one said it was going to be easy...
Filled with moments which will have you laughing out loud one minute then grimacing the next, this is a book I cannot recommend enough.
This series just gets better and better with each new release! I seriously cannot wait for Anton's book next. I can see it being a barrel of laughs to finally see him meet his match in a woman.
Think of the definition of this books title and it describes the character, Freya to a T as well as Viktor who never goes against his Boss and family. As the story of the Russian Mafia continues we see turns that we thought couldn't get any worse and oh they are good ones. TL always does an amazing job of getting you hooked from page one to the very end and then wanting more when we are done. Freya poor girl is like a bouncing bean bag in the arranged marriage category. You will have to figure out if she gets any say or not when it comes to her life. We continue to see twists and turns, trying to determine who you can and cannot trust and will all the Defiance be the right or wrong move? Viktor I will say is the more laid back of these Alpha men. He is no angel and is a devil just like the rest of his crew, but once he gets a taste of Freya can he show her and prepare her for what her life will be like in this crew? If you have read the other books in this series and thought that Elina was a tough chick, think again cause Freya is one Firecracker or a chick that you do not want to mess with. She may be a girl, but I feel that she is more molded for the crew than some of the goons that we see glimpses off. You know she is the bomb if Anton and Death get a kick out of her. We all could see what Freya and Viktor were blind to see. Oh I think they saw it, they just didn't expect for their lives to go in this direction. One taste is all you need and Viktor will show you a side that we never thought he had. Swoon on his moments of surprises is what I will say so that I don't give away any spoilers. See bad men can be sweet. As I have said in the other two reviews for these books in this series, each can be read as a standalone; however, the Russian Mafia story does continue in each book. You will not be lost though as each book is about a different character. I definitely cannot wait for Anton's book to see where the story goes and who is going to knock him down a few inches. This is a dark read, but if you like these types of reads this one is for you.
I was kindly provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have given it 5 stars.
I suppose like many others Freya was possibly my least favourite character but after reading Defiance, my opinion is now completely the opposite . She is now probably my favourite character out of them all.
My heart actually ached a little for her, as she was used like a pawn by the men around her and Viktor, I would have happily cracked him over the head myself! He was utterly frustrating. His sense of loyalty to his family knew no bounds and not even his wife could break that bond and at times I just wanted to scream at him.
Freya is a real little firecracker, her quick wit and sense of humor will have you laughing out loud and rooting for her throughout the entire book. Forget what you thought you knew about this mafia princess as Viktor and Freya are about to take you on a wild ride, you will never forget.
T.L Smith does not disappoint with the third installment of the Smirnov Bratva series. In fact I would go as far as to say it's her best one yet!! They just keep getting better and better. It was highly addictive, I couldn't put it down.
It is part of a series and I would recommend reading the first two in the series, you won't regret it.
I want to start by saying I am addicted to TL Smith's writing. The #SmirnovBratva series is one of my all time favourites and was always going to be a action packed ride.
Right from Book 1 you are introduced to the firecracker herself Freya, now Smith knows how to write Strong Female leads and Freya is one Bad Ass chick. She is not afraid of much and gives every bit as good as she gets!
That is until she is told she is to Marry Viktor...oh he is the real deal and will challenge her in the badass dept and bend her will. There is definite fireworks when these 2 are involved, just who will win this battle of the wills?
Defiance (as it's so aptly named) is book 3 in the series and explains Freya to a T, it will give the reader a mix of light and oh so dark. The sex is off the charts and downright dirty. I love that we get more of Kazier & Elina and Death & Pollie....oh and let's not forget about that wisecracking smart arse, all talk hot AF Anton. I Fully recommend this series, it's one hell of a ride.
Yet another brilliant read from one of my go to authors. She's the queen of all things dark and I love it!
Defiance is Viktor and Freya's story. Freya is feisty and fits into this dark world with ease since she was raised in it it's totally normal for her. Viktor and Freya don't hit it off to the best start after being forced together and have hit several bumps along the way which really don't help matters. In fact it pushes Freya over the edge and really leaves her with mixed feelings towards Viktor like does she want to seduce him or.......kill him! I really loved Freya's character. TL Smith has this fantastic habit of writing the most kick ass female leads as we'll as hot alpha males.
So this is book 3 in the series and must be read in order to get the most from the series... You absolutely do not want to miss out on The first two books!!
Once again TL Smith delivers a book that will suck you and from beginning to end!!!
In Defiance, you get Freya and Viktor. If you have read any of the Smirnov Bratva books before then you will be familiar with both characters.
Freya is a firecracker, brave and she's also tired of being used as a pawn by her family. Viktor is loyal and follows his orders no matter what they are. These two are forced to marry and neither are happy with this.
But what happens when shit hits the fan after the wedding? Will they be able to get past the hate for one another and love each other? Or will hate always be a factor in their marriage?
The banter between the two of them will have you wanting more and more, as well as wanting to yell at the two of them and tell them to get their shit together because they are the perfect match.
I've been desperate for Freya and Viktors story since this series started and I ended up loving Freya even more after reading this.
I know I'm probably in the minority but I've always liked Freya. Her attitude, the fact she's a pawn been used by her family...how could I not like her.
Freya steals the show in this book. She shows enough is enough and her badass attitude is out and she's taking no prisoners.
What I wasn't expecting was to not like Viktor. I've adored this man from the start but Defiance shows a side to him that made me hate him a little. There were times I wanted to physically slap some sense into him.
Another brilliant book in this series that has left me desperate for the next book.
This is Viktor and Freya's book. I have been looking forward to them since the Distrust. Like I imagined they blew my mind. Freya was been a sassy little b**** in book one and book two she was just bad a**. Defiance takes the cake. Though the story was good I did not feel the connection between Viktor or Freya. There was a certain part in the book which I really didn't agree with, I felt like Viktor did not take a stand for his woman like the other men did in the pervious books. That to me ment she was not as important to him as I thought and it was more about the attraction part and not love. In the end everything worked out well and now I'm wishing for the next book, hopefully this series doesn't end soon. I really like it.
Once again T.L.Smith has went beyond twisted and screwed in ber dark romance series. This woman is a Queen in Dark romance. Freya and Viktor are so twisted and messed up. Freya is my favorite female in this series. She is strong beautiful and takes no crap from anyone her dad a mob boss and wants certain things and her and her brotber Patrick survive together and become powerful in their own way. Patrick is set to take over and Freya only wanted to live her life. She and Viktor are forced to marry as he is high up in the mafia. Viktor never wanted to get married and as powerful as he is he always does what the family says without question. So what happens when he realizes he wants to stay married to Freya and he loves her???? Well read and find out you won't be disappointed. I love strong and powerful women and this series has 3 of them. Loved every second of this book. Thank you for your review.
Wow, what a read! I've come to expect nothing less from TL Smith. The she writes a book and gets you sucked in from the start, you have finished it before you have even realized. This one was no different. I've been waiting to read Freya's story since we first met her and have enjoyed her character snippets throughout the other books and this book did not disappoint. Her and Viktor, the things they did to each other had me laugh a time or time. I have enjoyed this series and getting to each character and can't wait for Anton's book I have a feeling his story is going to be interesting. From what we have seen and what he does to everyone, I can't just wait. I loved Freya and Viktor's story it was defiantly worth the read as are ALL TL Smith's books.
Finally the love story between Freya and Victor. It's a forced, arranged marriage mafia romance.
They like each other but they don't want to marry each other. The very day of her wedding, she walks out when Pollie goes into labor and has her baby boy. Yay!
Their wedding night is horrible. Shortly afterwards she's forced to marry someone else, she runs away, is trafficked and rescued by her brother's friend. She gets her revenge by killing Kaziers father and step mom.
It takes forever for Freya to forgive Victor and it takes him forever to prove that she's important to her. Poor sweet babies. I'm glad they make it back to each other and with a baby on the way.
Oh man, do I absolutely love Freya. From the previous books, we get a glimpse of the person she is. She may come across as ready to jump when ordered because that is what she has been taught to do since young, but in this book, we see the true Freya. Realizing that she will never have and be the “normal” person she always wanted to be, Freya is out for revenge. She has a hit list and yes, her husband (Viktor) is on that list. She is one tough cookie who just so happens to love cupcakes.
I fell in love with the crazy Smirnov family from book one and my love has for them has not yet died. A bit different from the previous 2 books because Viktor does not seem to have that same crazy protectiveness going for Freya as the other have for their woman but he does finally come right in the end.
