Book 4 in the Atherton Pack Series Previous Book: COREY
"You need to go to Atherton," they said. Easy for them. The higher-ups at headquarters don't have their whole world on the line. When Detective Damon Kelly's bosses send him across the state on a "simple" cyber fraud case, he never thinks he'd meet his mate, then risk losing Kieran by doing his job. No matter what other possible angles Damon works, his partner Grant Davis is sure Kieran's best friend Corey's their guy, and Grant is bent on bringing him in.
After the birth of their Alpha's son, the Atherton Pack needs another beta. Kieran Baxter couldn't be happier to accept. What Kieran doesn't expect is for all hell to break loose his first week on the job. Clashing with his mate at every turn, and fighting a human cop who wants to arrest Corey for hacking a government database, wasn't part of the plan either.
As more evidence piles up, a bigger, scarier picture comes into focus that could threaten not only the Atherton Pack, but everything the world knows.

Toni Griffin lives in Darwin, the smallest of Australia’s capital cities. Born and raised in the state she’s a Territorian through and through. Growing up Toni hated English with a passion (as her editors can probably attest to) and found her strength lies with numbers. Now, though, she loves escaping to the worlds she creates and hopes to continue to do so for many years to come. She’s a single mother of one and works full time. When she’s not writing you can just about guarantee that she will be reading one of the many MM authors she loves. Feel free to drop her a line at info@tonigriffin.net anytime.
Griffin has upped the ante with this long-awaited addition to The Atherton Pack series. Compared to the previous installments, this story had a high stakes story arc – one that affected a hell of a lot of people, not just the Atherton shifters.
Although the relationship between fated mates Kieran and Damon played a big part in the story, I felt the bigger, more gripping storyline – that had me on the edge of my seat most of the time – revolved around the world-wide exposure of the existence of shifters. I’ll admit that I was worried about how this sort of story arc would be handled so far into an established series, but ultimately I feel like Griffin has outdone herself, writing a tricky (but epic) plot-line into what has previously been quite a light-hearted and untroubled series.
This addition was bigger in scale. It may have been more intense and action packed and arguably less romantic in nature, but it was still extremely enjoyable. All the heated interactions between Damon and Kieran were smoking hot and even though they never got to a place in their relationship where they could express the lovey dovey good stuff, there was still plenty of promise for things to come. I kind of liked that the love declarations didn’t just happen simply because Kieran and Damon immediately recognised and accepted each other as mates; there was less insta-love and more realistic relationship development.
This story picks up exactly where Corey leaves off, meaning I would not recommend reading this as a standalone book. Not only are the rest of The Atherton Pack men extremely present in this story, so too are The Holland Brothers from a previous series. Unfortunately for me, I haven’t had the chance to read The Holland Brothers series, yet, and I actually do feel that was to my detriment, here. Although the majority of this story was told through the perspectives of Kieran and Damon, Alex Holland had a few chapters too, as did a couple of the other Atherton men. So, please don’t read this on its own if, like me, you are a stickler for reading order!
This is the fourth book in Toni Griffin's Atherton Pack Series which is about men who love men, who also happen to be wolf shapeshifters. These are stories that while they do sort of stand alone you are best to enjoy them by reading the series ino order otherwise you are going to miss connections and plot points. In addition, I would recommend reading the connecting series The Holland Brothers - to fully grasp these books.
In this Kieran and Damon as they struggle their way through finding a happy medium after recognizing each other as fated mates. In addition, we get to see what happens when one of their own, a shifter, tells the world about their existence and then the fallout from the exposure. This book has a lot of heat as all of Toni's books do and of course, there is plenty of Alpha male qualities spread throughout the story.
I have read all the stories in this series and the related series, The Holland Brothers, and I really enjoy the stories and set up of the world Toni has created. This story however only earned a 3.5 star from me because I felt it lacked in the romance department and the relationship part of the story. There was a lot of action, don't get me wrong, both in and out of bed - but the quality of the relationship that was developed between Damon and Kieran was lacking. One of the reason's I love wolf-shifter m/m romance is because of the fierce bond that develops between the males as their inner wolf shines through and claims their mate. In this story, that was lacking and it took away from the relationship and the quality of the romance.
Overall, while I enjoyed this story - I just think it could have been better and felt like it was a little rushed to me. However, it was nice getting to see members of the pack again and some of the the Holland brothers. 3.5 Stars for this wolfy story!
This is the fourth book in the Atherton series and while it can probably be read as a standalone I think you’d miss a lot in the continuing story arc if you haven’t read the first three. There’s not a lot of world building so I think the author assumes you’ve been following along.
In any case, we get to see what happens after Corey. There’s an investigation, some potential for a break in the secrecy from humans and of course Kieran and Damon learning they’re mates.
What I liked about this is that both MCs are strong, almost alpha types, so they like to manhandle the other quite a bit. There is quite a bit of sex in this and a fair amount of the book is also devoted to the ongoing story arc. I do wish there’d been a bit more “relationship building” but it wasn’t terribly different from the previous books in this regard.
One thing that bothered me a little: the guys end up mating fairly quickly and sharing the mind link – but they still end up not “knowing” the other well. Wouldn’t they just “talk” via the mind link and establish the relationship that way? But that’s a small complaint.
If you’ve been enjoying the series, as I have, this is a great installment and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I was really excited for this installment, which has been long overdue, and I'm sad to say it was such a disappointment for me. In the precious books, Kieran was soft spoken and gentle, and in this one he was hardheaded, aggressive, and a hothead. I couldn't stand Kieran and Damon together. They were abusive and immature. The book also needed more editing, the added POVs took away from the main couple (which in this case wasn't necessarily a bad thing just made the story feel disjointed), and the plot came out of left field.
I'm a fan of Toni Griffin, this just didn't work for me at all.
I gave it 5 stars because I loved the book with all its action and love between them. It started out with action (finding a mate) and it never stopped. Thank you Toni. I will look forward to more. I would like to know if you are doing anymore of the necromancer books? I absolutely love ALL.
Rating: 3 stars I want to start off this review by saying that I hated absolutely hated Kieran. I did not connect with his character at all. I really felt sorry for Damon being stuck with him as a mate. He was always quick to think poorly of Damon. Was physically abusive to him on more than one occasion and spent most of the time whining about his situation. Damon, I liked from the beginning. He was in such a bad position, but always did his best to protect his mate and the shifters in it.
I almost gave up on this book at the beginning. I’m glad I stuck with it though. Once the main drama went down, the book got really interesting. I loved that we got to see things from Alex Holland’s point of view along with Ben the alpha of the Atherton Pack. Reading those sections made me remember how much I loved both the Holland Brothers series and the Atherton Pack series. Frankly if I had started with this book, I probably wouldn’t have read any of the other ones.
If you are thinking of reading this book, do yourself a favor and read both the Holland Brothers series and the others in the Atherton pack series first. They are much better books.
I will be honest I was kind of thrown by the turn this book took. I won't say more because no spoiler. I love the strength of both of these men. This isn't a shifter story where there is one big strong alpha and a little weak omega. Instead you have two beta types who are smart, sexy, strong, and conflicted. They have so much to sort out that doesn't even start on their relationship with each other. I also felt their sort of rush into the whole mating thing without talking first. But well they are guys.
4.5 Stars ~ Definitely my favorite of the series, hands down. I really loved the focus of this story. Kieran and Damon are wonderful but all the other revelations that occurred had me in suspense.
It has been three years since I've read the previous book in this series. Frankly I LONG ago thought this world was done and forgotten. Not that I would object necessarily, but realistically? I would say more or less you almost feel like you have to reread the others to be in the right headspace.
I don't want to say that is all came back. That the first chapter was like a light going off. It wasn't. I almost said the hell with it, there's no way I am gonna get it without rereading or even CARING about the storyline. When the Hollands were mentioned I'd forgotten that connection and I've reread some of those a few times.
Plus this is about 3 times as long as the other books. It's a lot longer that I would have expected. I did finish it and I did like it. But I thought it was too long and as can probably be pertained I really am not a fan of the length of time between books.
I mentioned I like it. I DO. And here's the but. I didn't like the whole expose the shifter world angle. Plus there's so much going on that the concentration isn't on their mating but the events going on. And Kieran, despite mating bond, seems to jump to conclusions too many times over his one and and only fated mate. Now it feels conclusively that this is the end of the series. But I guess ya could go down the road of years later and how the fall out of the exposure has effected shifters and finding their mates.
Damon and Keiran had the longest journey to find happiness with each other. The story resolved around Damon and his partner Grant coming into town searching for a hacker. This ends up being Corey, Keiran's friend, who is guilty but the detectives has no proof. The investigation got more dangerous when they involved the government and a few of the pack were captured by them. The government knew of shifters because of a certain villain that resurfaced from all the way of book 1 in the Holland Brothers series, that began this whole universe of stories. It was up to Damon with help from Alex Holland to come out to the world as shifters to begin the treaty between the government and Ben. We got glimpse of the new characters that were introduced in the expansion of the books, like a certain Alpha Max who I hope is a mate to either Samuel or Bradley but I could be wrong lol.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I loved this series and was very excited about the new book. I was disappointed in the story. The relationship between Damon and Kieran seemed like an after thought to everything else going on in the book. This was a series all about the relationships between the men now we throw in every author's go to in shifter series for a cheap thrill let's out the shifters. It became a big mess about government, legislation and acceptance by humans. I loved the series and I'm very fond of the author and for that reason I'll give it 3 stars instead of the 2 stars it deserves.
I love Kieran, but I have loved all the books in the Atherton series and the Holland Brothers. Oh my, I am so glad how this is turning. I just can’t wait to see what comes next. I loved the pace and admit that I had a hard time finishing just because I really didn’t want it to end. So I am anxiously waiting for more. I love Kieran and Damon. I would so recommend this book!
I was dissapointed i feel like the book is incomplete there were a few things that could have been revisited in the book and the epilogue was so rushed
Gotta say I LOVED this book! There was so much to love......we got to see the Holland brothers as well a learning a big secret......AHHHH! Job well done Toni.....so worth the wait!
Even though the book begins slow, it's still engaging and I didn't expect such turn of events.
Damon is a detective that goes to Atherton together with his partner Grant, as they are investigating a hacking case Corey commited (they don't have proof though). There he meets his mate, Kieran, the newly appointed Beta of the Atherton Pack. It's lust at first sight and immediately after meeting, Keiran and Damon take the steps to start their bonding. However, things are not as easy as it seems because their mating is the least of their worries.. they just don't know it yet.
While I enjoyed the story, at first it took me time to be able to focus on it. I got the impression both characters spent too much time trying to decide what they needed to do or how to show the other how much they meant instead of taking action, and that drove me crazy at times. Both had strong personalities, but sometimes Kieran acted like an idiot and his lack of trust in Damon, when he was doing everything he could, put me off.
The sexy times they both have are nicely done and so hot, it made me re-read the scenes twice, I loved their time together as a couple. Also, the final events in the story were something I didn't expect at all, I can't wait to see how the next books develop that new arc.
Overall, in spite of its ups and downs, I enjoyed it and look forward to reading next book.

I enjoyed this one and am looking forward to reading the next book as things continue to change for everyone. That said, I am going to try to avoid spoilers as much as possible here.
Damon and Grant are sent to investigate a cybercrime in Atherton. Unfortunately, the investigation takes them to a pack member's house. Damon is stuck in a precarious position of trying to protect shifter secrecy while investigating a crime. On top of all of this, Damon scents his mate.
Kieran and Damon are too very strong men caught in a precarious situation. They were perfect for each other and were very hot when together, but they don't really get a chance to talk or sort things out with each other due to the investigation. I wanted to slap Kieran upside the head sometimes for not giving Damon more credit nor listening to what his pack members said about Damon. All Damon wanted was to finish the investigation without arresting a pack member and get to know his mate.
There are a lot of changes going on in the overall series arc, and it was great to see old friends. I can't wait to see what happens next with all the potential fallout from the events of this one.
While other books in this series as well as the original Holland Brother series could be read as standalones, I think this one would be better if Corey (Atherton Pack book 3) has been read since events in that book play heavily into this book.

The storyline, imo, was better this time around. However, I was not interested in the romance between Damian and Kieran. Kieran got on my nerves, I understood both sides but anytime Damian tried to talk with him or explain, Kieran didn't listen. Also they say they didn't know each other yet they have a bond link they could talk through.
They finally get it together at the end of the book but bc Damian has been busy DOING HIS JOB, Kieran thinks that he doesn't want the mating? Ugh get over yourself.
Not sure if there is gonna be another book. Could be interesting to see what happens now that the world knows.
Kieran was an asshat. The author did a 180 flip with his character from the previous installment. Corey was the stronger and more honorable MC. The cyber police investigation was unrealistic and lame. It's escalation into outing the existence of shifters to the world human population was another major change to the series. The author had focused on the mate relationships, the growing families, and the pack prior to this installment. In fact, Corey and Kieran's mating took second place to the world political event. The relationship development was very poor. There wasn't much physical togetherness. Even though they had a mind link, Corey and Kieran never internally "talked".
Eye roll. This one just went all out for the unnecessary drama. Really? Totally didn't see the author taking that route. It was just...tacky. I didn't feel it. Really, I've read all the books in this series just, well, because. Idk. I was bored and couldn't find anything good. I was going through that phrase where nothing appeals to me. These books were pretty much mindless entertainment.
Shane really, because there were some promising characters.
And really. Why did you stop in this book describing the main MCs??! Ugh.

If you are not familiar with this series, it follows a pack of wolf shifters, each book featuring a couple as they find their fated mate. The pack in this series is the Atherton pack, which is the pack headed by the Pennaeth Alpha, the lead Alpha of all of the Australian shifter packs. This series also involves characters from Toni Griffin’s other shifter series following the Holland family.
The main story line of this book is continued from the last book…. Ben, the Pennaeth Alpha and his mate Tommy, have had a baby. But since the baby is born to two men, here is no record of the birth. Corey, one of the other shifters, hacks in to government computer systems to add the children born to mated men so they can become legal citizens. Unfortunately Corey gets sloppy and someone figures out something fishy is going on. Damon is one of the detectives sent to investigate the situation. Damon is a shifter, and knows what is happening, and is trying to stop his partner Grant, from focusing on Corey. Eventually we find out there is more too it, and a big government conspiracy starts, and I’ll stop here and not give more away!
The romance part of the story is Damon and Kieran. Damon is surprised to find his mate is one of the Alpha’s betas. The two meet in a restaurant while everyone is out eating, go to the bathroom for a quick fuck, and bond. Then they get so caught up in the drama happening, that they spend very little time together. Kieran is pissed off at Damon for most of the story, and at one point punches him. It’s a rough story for the two men, but there is a good ending.
So I liked this story for the bigger story line. I loved seeing the characters from the previous books in this series, and we see a couple of the Holland men as well. However, I didn’t love the romance part of it. There just wasn’t much there. Kieran and Damon spend too much time apart other than fucking. There is no relationship built between them. Finally, at the end of the story they get a chance to get to know one another, but then the book ended. I was disappointed in how little time the two spend together… but I did like the bigger picture part of it. A big thing happens with all of the shifters involved, and I am curious to see how that plays out in later stories, assuming we get more anyway! I really liked seeing Tommy and Joseph the baby, and I was quite nervous for them at one point!
This is a good book, and a good addition to this series and the overall world of shifters that Toni has created. I don’t feel like this one had much romance in it, but it did have some hot sex scenes, and some good action around the big story line. It is not a stand alone book, you do need to know what is going on in this world. I like Toni’s writing style, and I love that she includes Australian phrases and details in her books. I’ve listened the the audio version of the previous books in this series and they are very well done. If you like shifters and m-preg, both this series and the Holland Brothers books are well worth reading.
My Review ~
Kieran is the 4th book in the Atherton Pack series. While Kieran could be read as a standalone, for a richer reading experience I highly recommend reading the previous books. I'll admit that I haven't read the book prior to this one but I wasn't lost at any point in the storyline.
Kieran is a fast paced read which picks up the story of the Atherton Pack after Corey hacks into the government's computers to add their newest pack member into the Births/Deaths Records. Damon and his partner are sent out to find the hacker and bring them to justice. Damon is well aware of who the hacker is but his partner has his eyes set on Corey and does everything he can to catch him. While all this is going on, Damon stumbles on the man who is his destined mate, Kieran. A chance meeting between them happens at a bar and results in Kieran marking Damon.
The road for Kieran and Damon is not smooth, and it leads to a lot of misunderstanding between this new couple. A large part of both their animosity and what leads to the misunderstandings is that they don't know each other. There wasn't a 'getting to know you' period in their relationship because the mark occurred on their very first meeting. Even with their mating link they don't seem to communicate very well. I will say that this frustrated me because they had so many opportunities to discover the other person but didn't take them. Or maybe they didn't think to use those opportunities to know their mate.
There are a series of events in Kieran that affect the entire shifter community and it will be interesting to see how those events shape any future books in this series or in the Holland Brothers series. While Kieran is a high impact book in the series, I just wish there had been more development in the relationship between Kieran and Damon. That really was the only lacking point to the story for this reader/reviewer. While that was a sticking point for me, I highly encourage other readers to see for themselves as what doesn't work for one reader may work for another. So I recommend checking out Kieran as a solid entry into the Atherton Pack series.
A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Audiobook Review:
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
This was another great addition to the Atherton Pack series. Damon is thrown for a loop when he meets his mate while investigating his mate’s best friend while also trying to guide his work partner away from the obvious suspect. Kieran is excited to meet his mate, but doesn’t know how to reconcile his friendship with his mate’s job. A lot of other things went on than just Damon and Kieran’s relationship and I can’t wait to see how all the changes in the world of shifters will affect the future books.
Damon is determined to do the right thing with his job, while also leading them away from the truth in order to keep the pack safe. When he is forced to take drastic measures to keep his mate and other shifters safe he hopes it will all work out. Throughout this story I could feel how conflicted Damon was with his job and mate knowing what he had to do, but he was determined to have a relationship with Kieran despite everything. Kieran has a lot of trouble accepting the situation he has been put in and knows he has to look at things from all sides to get the whole story. These two went about the opposite of the others and jumped into sex and then have to learn to make everything work after the fact.
Nick Flint did a wonderful job again narrating this story. I was able to understand the characters through the voices and emotions he portrayed. We saw a lot more characters points of view in this story and he easily kept them each unique so there wasn’t any mix up what was going on.
Cover art is wonderful and follows the pattern for the series.
This is an amazing story that will immediately snag your attention and keep you riveted until the very end. Chaos erupts during Kieran’s first week as a beta for the Atherton pack and he finds his mate at the center of it. Damon must navigate his way through an untenable position between keeping the secret of shifters safe, doing his job, and building a relationship with his mate. The two men clash at every turn and trust is hard earned. When things go from bad to so much worse, Damon must find a way to restore peace in the shifter world. This story will keep you turning the page from start to finish, totally wrapped up in a world full of love, lust, and danger. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The fourth book of the The Atherton Pack series. I love the world created in these books. The storyline hooked me from the beginning I was unable to put in down and read it in one night. I really enjoyed Kieran and Damon's story there relationship did not developed imediatley there were twists and turns along the way before they found happily ever afters. This is a great shifter story and it was wonderfull to see characters from previous books. I can`t wait to see what will happen next. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
