When two burglars decide to escape the law by laying low in the Fenlands of Eastern England, they stumble on the peat-preserved body of an ancient Celt. With nothing but their low cunning to guide them, can they find a way to profit from their discovery or will events take a different turn? test
For a supernatural take on why a bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing, this ghost story by the author of The Unhappy Medium (1 and 2) is a delightfully chilling little read. It is a short, sharp slap, as ghost stories go, not the full Victorian snaffle, but the leanness of detail and economy of language is fitting for the modern setting and characters. I like the two flailing evil-doers in this tale for their ineptness and black hearts, even to the point of getting a chuckle from their twisted end - but lest I stray into "spoilerisms" here, I'll just say this: The story is entertaining, rich in what we love Tim Brown for, and well worth the space it takes up on your Kindle.
