EXCERPT: Her new husband looked at her then, his eyes boring into her soul. "And promise you'll always remember I love you."
The sound of his voice still seemed so real, even after all these months. She sunk to the curved stone bench. Tears collected in her eyes and spilled over, making their way down her cheeks. She fingered the familiar lid on the box.

I'm sorry Dean, I can't do it.
No matter that she had gotten out of her bed while it was still dark outside with the best intentions. She still wasn't ready to let him go.
Not now - and maybe never.

MY THOUGHTS: Sisters, #1 in the Sun Valley series by Kellie Coates Gilbert, was first published in 2014 and has just been rereleased on audio narrated by E.L. Beckett.

This is a sweet story about three adult sisters navigating their way through life and all the curveballs that get thrown at us.

Karyn's husband Dean was killed in a ski accident, and she is finding it difficult to move on with her life.

Leigh Ann overhears some gossip in the supermarket and learns that she may have a rival for her husband's affection.

Joie is going through rather a late wild child phase as a result of a broken romance she has had to keep secret.

Sisters is the first in a four-book series, so there is plenty more drama to come with these women and their love interests. Their father Edwin is a lovely man, a widower who is being hotly pursued by all the widow's - or the 'Bo-Peeps' as his daughters refer to them - in the area. I would quite like a book about him!

I love family dramas but found Sisters a little saccharine and superficial for my taste. I like my reads to have a little more depth in the characters. Unfortunately, I never became fully absorbed in this storyline and cringed at some of the occurrences, especially with Leigh Ann. What was she thinking? All three sisters seemed to me to be quite desperate and needy, although I ended up quite admiring Joie.

Which brings me to another point - the narrator at times pronounced Joie as Joy and others as Joey. The first couple of times this happened kind of threw me for a loop, but eventually I became used to it and stopped wondering if there was another character in the script. Other than that, the narration was great.

I have no compulsion to continue with the series, but if you enjoy a quick and easy to read family drama with a substantial side serving of romance, this should satisfy your needs.

⭐⭐.6

3⭐
Genre ~ sister fiction, women's fiction
Series ~ Sun Valley #1
Setting ~ Idaho
Publication date ~ March 1, 2017
Est Page Count ~ 330 (45 chapters +e)
Audio length ~ 9 hours 11 minutes
Narrator ~ E.L. Beckett
POV ~ multiple 3rd
Featuring ~ small town, no steamage

This story follows 3 sisters ~ Karyn ,Leigh & Joie. One is a young widow, one has been married for over 20 years and one is still trying to figure things out.

I don't have any sisters, so not really relatable for me, but you could tell they had a nice bond. Really enjoyed their father's character, who seemed to be quite the catch with the ladies in town.

We also get some chapters from Grayson the fella that's starting over in Idaho after a divorce and takes a liking to Karyn. I liked the slow and steady ease of how their friendship progressed into more.

Overall, this was fine. I'm not a big women's fiction reader, but it was a bonus borrow on Hoopla, so that's why I listened. Not sure if I'll continue on with the series or not. These are very highly rated, so be sure to give it a whirl if it's your cup of tea.

Narration notes:
She did fine, but I wish there were multiple narrators even though it's told in the 3rd.

I loved Sisters, It's not your usual Gilbert book. She has ventured out and wrote what was on her heart and is a little different than we are use to. I Immediately fell in love with the story of the three sisters. I could see a little of myself in each one of them. I can't tell you which one was my favorite of the three because they all bring something different to the table.

Gilbert has outdone herself with this one. I am so excited to read the next book in Sun Valley series.

This was a clean Contemporary Romance, I was shocked how fast the book came to an end. I just had sat down started reading and it was over. You are going to really enjoy this one.

I hope Gilbert can write fast, I am not a patient person.

I gave this book 5 stars and I recommend this one!

I found this story Ok but nothing to keep me engaged all the time.
The characters were nice but I just felt they lacked something. The premise of the story was good.
This is the first in a series and I don't think I will be continuing.

I have yet to read a book by Kellie that I haven't loved and this was no exception! I like a book that makes me laugh and tugs at the heartstrings all at the same time.

Sisters is set in Sun Valley ID which Kellie is very familiar with and I felt like she captured the beauty of the area in her descriptions. I'd like to go visit that area one day and feel like I would be right at home after reading her book.

The three sisters - Leigh Ann, Karyn and Joie, are close and are able to rely on each other when things are going crazy. It doesn't mean that they don't have secrets from each other, but all is revealed in due time. I liked this one description in the book that describes their bond - "The three of us are - well, we're very close. I mean, we're different as night and day but we're like a cord of three strands, tightly woven."

Each sister is on her own journey and I felt like I was right there with them - rooting them on, shaking my head if they did something crazy, or feeling their pain in different situations. There is also quite the cast of supporting characters, including the very nosy Dilworth sisters. I think they must make life in Sun Valley quite interesting.

This story is very well told and I can't wait to see what happens next in this series. I got a peek from Miss Trudy (Dilworth) and I think future books are going to be quite entertaining.

This book was your typical women's fiction about 3 sisters coming together and bringing all of their different issues. At first I was really liking it, but I started to find the writing style really jarring and jumpy and I got pulled out of the story. This is also a 4 book series that follows the same set of sisters, so the progress in the plot is very slow. I thought Karyn moved on kind of quick and her relationship with her in laws was weird. I thought Joie felt flighty and really hard to understand. I thought Leigh Ann's issues started too many paths and didnt give us enough to satisfy us to the point we want to read more. Overall, I thought this book had potential, but if you're looking for a story of sisters, I think there are better ones out there.

SPOILERS AHEAD:
Karyn has recently been widowed when her Olympian husband is killed in a ski accident. She goes back to their home town of Sun Valley ID for his funeral and to spread his ashes at a Hemingway monument. While shes doing that, she meets a guy named Grayson and sparks fly. She starts a relationship with him and that progresses throughout the story. However, her in laws are super upset by her moving on and theres a lot of weirdness around what she owes them and what shes allowed to do based on their approval.
Joie is a former lawyer turned cowgirl/ horse keeper. She thinks shes going to get a promotion but a guy named Clay gets it instead. She starts sleeping with someone else from her past but you know her and Clay will end up together in one of the books. The guy from her past is Adam and he comes back and its a bum, bum, bum situation but then they quickly get together. We find out their past is that he was a partner in the law firm and they had an affair and she found out he was married. I guess that's why she left law. Then he says he's divorced but SHOCKER he's still married.
Leigh Ann is a city planner and is involved in everything and she has a lot of money. She thinks her husband is cheating on her but come to find out he's just invested in this new project that I'm guessing is going to result in them losing everything, though it hasn't happened yet.

2.5 ⭐️’s rounded up to 3.

Chick-lit story much like a Hallmark movie. Three sisters and their relationships with each other, their widower dad, and their love lives. Nothing extra-ordinary. Just a picturesque lovely town, complete with 2 town gossips, and a bit of hokey but entertaining dialogue... BUT entirely predictable situations.

This is book 1 of a series that was featured free on kindle to get you buying the series, but it’s not for me. I don’t discourage you to try it if you like cozy romances.

Thank you @NetGalley and @DreamscapeSelect for the audio ARC. Sisters follow three sisters all in different parts of life, living in a tourist mountain town. I enjoyed this easy comfortable read. The narrator was wonderful and her voice so soothing to listen to. This books sets up the three sisters story and I can not wait to read more. Grab some tea and a warm blanket and relax reading this heartfelt story.

Book 1 in the Sun Valley Series. This is the story of three sisters, all different living in the same town along with their dad. The sisters are there for each other, no matter what the situation. Sometimes maybe too much.

It is a heartwarming, light read.

This first of the Sun Valley Series is engaging. Three adult sisters and their father live in Sun Valley, Idaho. Each sister is facing a different life challenge. While Sisters is a bit more about Karyn, there is a lot of page time for eldest Leigh Ann and baby Joie as well. Pages were turning and I look forward to the next in the series.

The Afterward, written by the town gossip Trudy, is creative and fun.

My gratitude to the author for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.

Definitivamente demasiado básico, predecible y aburrido para mi gusto. Rescato la relación entre las tres hermanas y el papá. Esta es la vida en una ciudad pequeña donde todos se conocen y hablan de los demás.

Three sisters live near one another in Sun Valley. Karyn is the widow of a beloved Olympic-hopeful skier. Leigh Ann, the oldest, is bossy, organized and involved in many local civic events. Her life is perfect - or is it? Joie is a former lawyer turned cowgirl who is running from her past. While the book focused mostly on Karyn, Leigh Ann and Joie were well-developed.

I enjoyed learning about all the characters, including their widower father, Edwin, who is s sheep farmer (so the daughters refer to the women to attempt to lure him in as Bo Peeps). The issue I had is that nothing was resolved by the book's end. Will Karyn cave to her former in-laws' disapproval of her new relationship? Will Joie settle down and find happiness? Is Leigh Ann's husband being truthful, and if so, will they soon be millionaires or lose everything (I suspect the latter)? Does the new woman in town have a chance with Edwin? You have to read the next book to find out, but there are three more books in the series, so I suspect the next two also leave you hanging.

This is my first Kellie Coates Gilbert book, and I am certain it will not be my last.

The author uses the setting of beautiful Sun Valley, Idaho for her story of three sisters. First, I want to say that I lived in the Wood River Valley for a good decade back in the 80's and 90's. Her depiction of the landmarks and people is right on the money, and it was very nostalgic for me to read this book. I'm so happy to see that it is the start of a series and can't wait to read the rest.

The unfolding of the three sister's stories was told in such a way that I felt as though I was right there witnessing the entire thing take place. We've got the story of Karyn, the recently widowed sister; Leigh Ann who worries that her husband is cheating; and Joie - the younger sister who is struggling to make her way through life without making too many mistakes.

A definite good read.

The author has placed the setting of this book in beautiful Sun Valley Idaho, and we enjoy this site through the eyes of three very close sisters.
We travel through the lives of these siblings, and while the main focus of the story is Karyn who is struggling moving on with her life after the death of her young husband, we are also offered glimpses into the lives of Leigh Ann and Joie.
Some decisions are made, and others thwarted, but you will be quickly page-turning as these sisters make life changing choices. I for one cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I received this book from the author and was not required to give a positive review.

Good Start to a Series

Fun little book in which three sisters and their family are introduced to readers. Without getting wordy or over dramatic, the author was able to introduce these sisters in a way that the reader does feel like you know each. There was none of the constant repetition of worries or fears as is seen in some books of this type.

This is the first in a series and I may find myself reading the next one. At the end, the reader is left with a pr try good idea of what might happen, but as with all book, one never knows.

Easy book to read, this is good for in between heavier books or for a summer rad by the pool or on the beach.

Family is always there when you need them.

What a great first book in a series all are sure to love! Sun Valley is the place we all dream of living thinking life is a dream for all. But in Sun Valley three sisters must learn to love, lose, and hopefully love again. Karyn, Leah Ann, and Joie are three sisters that have always had to rely on each other having lost their mother at a young age. This first book introduces all three who are as different as can be but are as close as three sisters could ever be with each other. This is a must read, cannot put down book. I loved it from the very beginning to the very end and can’t wait for Book 2.

Great book

I really enjoyed Sisters. It was so easy to identify with the sisters and other characters in the book. Having grown up in a small town it was so easy to relate to what was going on and how events and people came together. If your looking for a good quick chic lit then you definitely should read Sisters. I’m looking forward to reading more about the people and happenings of Sun Valley.

Slow, tedious, and not a satisfying ending

The book told the story of three sisters and switched between each of them through out. I found that distracting. It seemed to take forever to get anywhere with any sister’s story. Romance was clean. No editing errors. I finished the book but found all of it, frankly, boring and disappointing. Not interested in reading subsequent books in series or even by this author.

I liked this story but was a bit disappointed it was so short. It felt like it could have had a bit more to it. Liked the key characters though. I am not a fan of half introducing a story line only to find it is a whole different book. That is a personal aversion to series that could just be a longer novel. Great setting

Kindle issues abound

the story was interesting but having Kindle issues was annoying to say the least. I needed a second Kindle app on my phone to read the whole story...entire pages were blank on my Kindle but were on the app...1st time this has ever happened.
I was disappointed that the interwoven story lines continue in more books...am tired of every book now being a series.

I laughed. I cried and lived for what came next.

I liked this book from the beginning. I kept trying to read ahead. But I found out you miss a lot of good story doing that. So I read it as written. Great stories. I loved all 3 sisters. I agree that Andrew came off as a player. Can't wait to read what comes next

Needs a copy editor

Good, if predictable story. Abominable word misuse, often sophomoric dialogue, and overused descriptive passages shouldn't even warrant a 3, but I did want to see what happened. Not enough to buy the rest of the series.
