This is the philosophy behind the rest of the LC series and is focused on writing workshop. I appreciated reading her perspective and how she (and her colleagues) structure their classrooms. She did include many logistical details and classroom management tips which I really appreciated as I feel most books on conferencing leave this out and just expect you to know how to make this happen. She was really realistic about what middle school is really like, which few books are. At the same time, I didn't find her approach as enlivening as any of the Penny Kittle or Kelly Gallagher books that I've read. I'd recommend it if you are looking to improve your writing instruction or read the rest of the LC series.
