Eve Devon writes sexy heroes, sassy heroines & happy ever afters...

Growing up in locations like Botswana and Venezuela gave Eve Devon a taste for adventure; her love for romances began when her mother shoved one into her hands in a desperate attempt to keep her quiet during TV coverage of the Wimbledon tennis finals!

When Eve wasn't consuming books by the bucketload, she could be found pretending to be a damsel in distress or running around solving mysteries and writing down her adventures. As a teenager, Eve wrote countless episodes of TV detective dramas so the hero and heroine would end up together every week. As an adult, still hooked on romance and mysteries, she worked in a library to conveniently continue consuming books by the bucketload, until realizing she was destined to write contemporary romance and romantic suspense herself.

I was given a preview of this book by the author and my word I'm so impressed I loved it from first page. I really wanted to read this book as loved the first book and wanted to hear more. Was full of Christmas and romance and decisions to make and family time at a special time of year. Highly recommend you read this as so good had me laughing at times and at others wondering what would happen. Kate is now opening the clock house and she and her partner can they open it in style and how does their romance go she wants to ask him to move in with her but when will be the best time. Kate's friend who is an actress called Emma and she doesn't land the role she really wants to and Kate suggests she comes over for a break to help her at the clock house and she takes up the offer. She then meets Jake and how do they both cope as he had a bad experience and can he trust someone and move forward or not. Full of fun and romance well worth reading.

What an enjoyable read, read just in time for my Christmas enjoyment. Getting the Clock House on the Green ready for opening are Kate, Daniel and Juliet. One more employee is needed, enter Emma. She is from LA and never was able to make it big as an actress despite trying for years. Giving herself a break with a little rest and relaxation she will now become the bartender at the Clock House on the Green.
Jake tries to avoid the Christmas season, he would rather it pass him by without his acknowledgement but as we know that can't happen. He was hurt badly by a woman during the holiday season and everyone in the small village of Whisper Woods know his business so it's time to get away during this holiday season. Can Emma convince him she is worth sticking around for? Emma is a hard worker at the Clock House on the Green and everyone likes her but is she able to convince Jake's heart to thaw and allow a good woman in? Clever little story that I enjoyed!

At times this book was completely hilarious, it was just so, so enjoyable, and there are a few scenes that will stay with me for a while.

You definitely need to keep an eye open for a rather special "reindeer" which was one of the funniest things I've read for a while. It isn't just all laughs though as there is a story too, and the hope of a romance between Jake and Emma.

Jake is hoping to avoid Christmas this year, for reasons best explained by the Wham song Last Christmas, whereas Emma has come to Whispers Wood to forge a new path, after falling out of love with acting. There are instant sparks between them, at least they seem to rub each other up the wrong way.

Having read the first book, I'm not even going to try and claim if this one works as a standalone as I was so happy to be back in Whispers Wood, and excited to see how plans for The Clockhouse on the Green are progressing. We also get to catch up with all the key characters from the first book, some more so than others, and see how their stories have continued.

I loved Emma's character, she is so warm hearted and helpful towards others, completely selfless. She is an excellent bar manager and has all manner of great ideas to help her friends and the business. She is like an extra best friend to everyone.

I all around just really enjoyed this book and am already looking to book 3 featuring these characters. I can't wait to see where they go from here.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Impulse for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Having absolutely adored the first book in this series, ‘The Little Clock House on the Green’, it felt like all my Christmases had come at once when I was asked to review Eve Devon’s latest treat. ‘Christmas at the Little Clock House on the Green’ picks up where we left off in the first book, however the focus isn’t solely on Kate and Daniel this time round. Don’t fret though, Kate and Daniel do appear quite a lot in this second book but they have agreed to take a backseat for two new main characters to find their feet.

Emma is an actress. Surrounding herself with the limelight of Hollywood is all she’s ever known (well, aside from working in a bar of course). Kate, her friend back in Whispers Wood, has offered her a once in a lifetime opportunity. Should Emma continue to battle it out in Hollywood for starring roles, or should she take life by the baubles and say yes to Kate?

The other main character is a rather complicated man who goes by the name of Jake. A man who has, unfortunately, lived out an exceptionally popular Christmas song. One day out of the blue, Jake’s personal life went ‘WHAM!’ in his face as his girlfriend at the time decided to have a change of heart. A year later and Jake is only beginning to find his feet as a singleton. Well, until the Hollywood actress appears and he’s left wondering whether this Christmas would be anything like ‘Last Christmas’ when he gave someone his heart, only to have it taken away again..

Eve Devon’s ‘Clock House’ series has got to be one of my all time favourite book serials I have ever read. There is just something so magical about being in Whispers Wood – I would be here all day if I even began to explain exactly what makes it magical, so please trust me on this fact!

Even though ‘Christmas at the Little Clock House on the Green’ manages to give enough background information for those who are beginning the series from book, I would still recommend reading these books in order so that you can appreciate the series one hundred percent.

I have to be honest, I was a little bit apprehensive starting this book as I loved the first book so much and I really wanted the second book to follow suit. I needn’t have worried though, from the very first chapter I was swept away by the magical Whispers Wood and everything it stood for. It was as though I had never been away! As well as the romantic elements to the storyline, this book also continued some truly laugh out loud moments – at one point I even had tears rolling down my cheeks I was laughing that much! The entire storyline was extremely well thought out, making every eventuality appear flawless.

I loved how we were able to see a different side to both Kate, and Daniel now that they had taken a step back. It was as though Kate had found herself and, after the previous book, it was so lovely to see things working out for her. Of course, Bea’s memory lived on in book two and it was still as emotional as the first book, I had tears in my eyes once again for a completely different reason.

‘Christmas at the Little Clock House on the Green’ took my breath away and left me wanting even more. Closing the book after yet another visit to Whispers Wood left me feeling incredibly deflated as I just didn’t want to say goodbye. All of the characters in this book got under my skin one way or another (in a good way) and, as daft as this sounds, I feel as though they have become great friends (albeit fictional) as I have gotten to know them through their worst moments, and their best moments.

Eve Devon truly has captured the true essence of Whispers Wood in such a beautiful and seamless manner, warming my heart from the very first page until the very last. I laughed, I cried, but despite that, my heart was filled with so much joy thanks to this outstanding novel from the extremely talented, Eve Devon.

It’s pretty clear that the author has written this book from the heart and to be honest, I wouldn’t expect anything less from this author. I cannot wait to read Eve Devon’s next book as if it’s anything like the previous two, we will all be in for an absolute treat.

Heart-warming, joyous, magical and sheer perfection, ‘Christmas at the Little Clock House on the Green’ is THE book to read these Christmas without a doubt.
Absolutely outstanding!

P.S. Gertrude needs a story of her own…SHE is a belter of a character!!!!

Thanks HarperImpulse.

It was super cute and I had tears in my eyes through all the second half. I loved Emma’s character so so much ❤️ and Britis authors really have a different vibe that seems a great fit for me! Really enjoyed the humour too, as well as the small village and winter atmospheres !

Kate, Daniel and Juliet are working hard to get the Clock House on the Green ready for opening. They will share the business and have one spot that still has to be filled, they have a bar that needs a manager. Kate knows someone who will be perfect for the position, her friend Emma, who has tried to become a successful Hollywood actress for years, but doesn't seem to get the right parts, and is ready for a change. Is moving to Whispers Wood what Emma needs to feel happy again?

Jake doesn't like Christmas. He was badly hurt by a woman once and as everyone knows everything about him in the small village, he wants to get away from Whispers Wood during the holiday season. He finds comfort in designing beautiful gardens, but there's an emptiness he can't seem to fill. When Emma arrives at the Clock House Jake's heart is slowly thawing. However, Jake doesn't know if he can trust again. Is Christmas really such a horrible time or will he have the chance to enjoy it again because of Emma?

Christmas at the Little Clock House on the Green is a wonderful heartwarming story. It was fun to read more about the Clock House. There's so much progress and I enjoyed watching the business develop into something amazing. I liked reading about Kate and Juliet again. They're fabulous main characters and I enjoyed finding out more about their love lives. Emma is a good addition to the Clock House family. She's got a big heart, she's always friendly and she has a smile for everyone. Her character is perfect for a Christmas story. Especially when there's a moody man whose heart needs to be defrosted. I absolutely loved the romantic part of the story and couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to find out what would happen between Emma and Jake.

Eve Devon has a lovely easy flowing writing style. I was spellbound by her story from the start and enjoyed reading it from beginning to end. I love her vibrant descriptions of Whispers Wood and its inhabitants. The village has plenty of character and there's a lot going on. Christmas at the Little Clock House on the Green has the exact right Christmas spirit. It's a charming feelgood story filled with beautiful moments and romance. I highly recommend this fantastic festive book.

I loved the first Whispers Wood book so I was excited to revisit new characters and old.

This time it's new resident Emma Danes who has arrived at the village to help with the opening of the clock house. Upon arrival, she meets Jake Knightley and it's not exactly a warm welcome from the surly gardener. It seems all the villagers are tiptoeing around Jake, who seems to be getting even grumpier the closer Christmas gets.

Jake has plenty of reason to want out of the village for Christmas, but Emma, who seems to be a friend to all makes it difficult for him to escape. Or is it the chandelier to blame?

I chuckled throughout the entire book! Eve Devon seems to get better and better and that's saying something considering I've enjoyed everything she's written. This book has everything. A brilliant plot, characters to fall in love with, emotion, and most of all - heart. I absolutely love Whispers Wood and the author's skill puts you right there, dumped in the snow, fully immersed in the goings on in the village. If you are a fan of Jill Shalvis, this is the series for you. It reminds me so much of The Lucky Harbor series. Christmas at the Little Clock House on the Green is full of tender moments, sweetness and so much humour! The added references are so funny. Some old and so very current you'd think the author had penned it today, if not for the obvious brilliance which shows that a lot of hard work went into making this your Christmas read of 2017!

Funny, enchanting and utterly brilliant!

Having just read The Little Clock House on the Green I was excited to find out what Christmas was going to be like in Whispers Wood and I wasn't disappointed.

Emma is an actress waiting for her big break and it's almost within her reach. Jake is not a fan of Christmas after last year turned out disastrously.   So neither expected to be involved in the Clock House nor Whispers Wood's festive activities but fate has other ideas.

Whispers Wood's village spirit deepens as the festive season approaches and there is a particularly charming scene when Gertrude who we met in the first book of the series, brings  Emma and Jake together.  Laughter and tears are evident in this lovely story from the beginning and it is a great read for those of us who love Christmas and village life.

Emma and Jake are interesting characters and their strong personalities and fear of being hurt have you on the edge of your chair yelling at them to be brave and honest about their feelings.  Are they? Or is Christmas at the Clock House on the Green just a festive romance? I'm not going to spoil it, you'll just have to buy the book.

I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I didn't realise when I started reading the little clock house on the green it is actually part of a whispers wood series but do not let this deter you as this can definitely be read as a standalone.
This is a great read that has some hilarious moments, Emma is a wannabe actress that although is great she just seems to keep getting overlooked for parts. Having had enough and the offer of running the bar in the clock house she moves from America to her friends (Kate) bar in England. Emma is a great character, very warm hearted and helpful and loving the thought of Christmas at the clock house unlike Jake who after last year would rather forget about Christmas altogether. A drawback of not reading the previous book is that I didn't get any history of Kate and Daniel but it didn't bother me too much. Now if theres going to be a next instalment in this series which I pretty much think there will be I hope Gertrude gets her own storyline.
I would like to thank netgalley and HarperCollins publishers LTD for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I’ve kicked of the festive season by reading Christmas at the Little Clock House on the Green a romance novel by Eve Devon.

I absolutely loved The Little Clock House on the Green the first book in the series and couldn’t contain my excitement when my copy of Christmas at the Little Clock House on the Green arrived in the post. It’s like all my christmases came at once!

This book picks up where we left off, updating us on past characters, the latest goings on at the clock house and introduces two new characters who take this books romantic leads. Inspiring actress Emma Danes and complicated Jake Knightley. There are instant sparks between Emma and Jake, although both guard their feelings in fear of being hurt. Will they be able to open up and be honest about how they feel?

With romance and the quaint little village of Whispers Wood as a backdrop you couldn’t ask for more. This book doesn’t disappoint! It’s full of Christmas cheer, festive fun, reindeers and romance.

I didn't realise that this is the second book in a series - if I had known I probably wouldn't have bothered as this book doesn't work well as a stand-alone. Instead, I felt dropped into the middle of a story with little to no introduction to the characters or their backstories. That aside, it went on too long and the "will they, won't they" got a bit tiresome.

This book is VERY British. There were a lot of pop-culture references that this clueless Yank didn't get (I googled about half of them and just let the other half slide) but Ms. Devon's writing more than makes up for that. She has a way of writing characters and settings that just suck you in and make you wish that you knew them and lived where they are.

Although this book could stand alone, you should definitely read the first book (The Little Clock House On The Green) to fully appreciate it because this book follows three different couples – Kate and Daniel and also Oscar and Juliet whose love stories are featured in the first book, and the newcomers Jake and Emma. It sounds way more confusing than it is, I promise. While this book was really busy, the stories were so great that it was easy to keep up with the goings on. Just like the first two couples, Emma and Jake were both such great characters that I couldn't help but root for them from the start.

This book comes to a very sweet conclusion and could totally stand alone, but it also left enough tiny threads flapping that I'm really looking forward to the next book and Gloria's redemption. (And the answer to the Juliet question.)

If you enjoy a book that is really well-written, interesting, and that is loaded with humor, you should give this one a read.

The ultimate feel-good place to be...

I absolutely love Whispers Wood and all of the characters in it and I am utterly, utterly excited to know that there will be more tales to be told in that beautiful part of the fictional world...I love reading the stories of the characters, their histories and watching them blossom right before my eyes..as always I am curious about, 'what happens next..' with them too. Reading this book gave me many laugh out loud and teary eyed moments..the perfect 'rom-com' - Who would play Jake and Emma in a movie version, I wonder..I will ponder that one and hope that it comes into fruition one day. In the meantime, however, I shall endeavour to watch every episode of the Gilmore Girls again plus any new ones I may have missed, re- read the classics that I enjoyed as a child and actually read the ones that I never got around to back then...mainly Jane Austen! I have a feeling that the authors personality comes out in the main heroine of Whispers Wood,Kate, which makes her a lovely friend to have. Eve Devon does it again and has produced another wonderful book that is worth every penny and more.

When I first started the book I didn’t realise that it was the second in a series but I needn’t have worried as you don’t have to have read the first book before reading this one. You will quickly get a handle on who all the characters are.

Emma is an aspiring actress who isn’t getting her lucky break so when she is offered the opportunity to come to England, home of her idol Jane Austen, she jumps at the chance.

Jake is the owner of Knightley Hall which sounds grander than it is - it’s a little run down and needs a whack of money spent on it to get it restored to its former glory but at present he is concentrating on getting the gardens the way he wants them in order that he can open them to the public.

Jake is so over romance and Christmas and can’t wait to get away from all things Christmassy having had his heart broken the previous year. But fate and the village folk lore may have other ideas.

A lovely romantic festive read which is best enjoyed curled up in an armchair in front of the fire.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance read copy.

I hadn't realised when starting to read that this was the second book in a series. If you are thinking this may detract from the story then don't - I found it worked as a story on its own merits.
Emma moves from America to join her friend Kate at the Clock House to become manager at the bar although her real.passion is acting but an acting career is just not happening for her. She soon meets Jake, a broody gardener who, seems to hate Christmas having had a brutal WHAM style 'Last Christmas' and the sparks fly. Jake tries hard to lose himself in his gardening but eventually a love story develops as the frost between them melts and what better time for it to happen than at Christmas. Romance, fun, laughter and Christmas, what better combination can there be! I'm off to find the first book to immerse myself again in Whisper Woods

I haven't read the first book in this series and this is a must if you are to enjoy this book. There are a bunch of disparate characters already ensconced in Whispers Wood and the writing is not such that you can figure out just who these people are from jumping in at Book Two. Based on this particular publication I don't really have any inclination to buy that first book to see where it started.

I presume that Emma is a new character as we get told all about her but I simply couldn't connect with the character or feel that she was anything more than a bunch of words on a page. I did appreciate that just because she was an aspiring actress she wasn't all supreme self-confidence but did have doubts and insecurities; I just couldn't get a sense of a real person inhabiting the page. As for the people already at The Clock House they didn't have any personality and honestly, what grown woman goes WAAAAH! at regular intervals - it would seem that Kate and, I think she was called Jemma but I really can't be bothered to check - do.

The Christmassy setting with the tree lighting ceremony, variety show staged by the residents of the village and the group Christmas meal were charming and I even quite enjoyed the parts with Jake and his garden. Unfortunately, these are a tiny bit of the book and this made it a hard slog to get to the end.

The writing is loose and sloppy in places and jumps all over the place. Although each chapter is supposed to be about the perspective from one particular person none of them really move the story on so the middle 50% stagnates and feels like complete and utter filler. In my personal opinion this is a 100 page novella fleshed out to a full length book and done so very unsuccessfully.

As with all series I've joined part way through not having read any of the previous books there is always the understanding that likely as not I will of course have missed out on some of the characters back stories etc. Whether this has made any difference to my enjoyment (or not as the case may be) of the book ... well that depends.

Rated two stars ('It was OK') on GoodReads I do think that in this case my not having read the first book (The Little Clock House on the Green) in this particular series did make a difference in that I think to have those back stories might have proved beneficial. However, that said, not a story nor (more importantly) characters I liked/cared enough about to want to fill in the blanks by reading the previous book.

Putting aside the fact that, as is common with these so called Christmas books, there was actually very little Christmassy about Christmas At the Little Clock House On The Green ...

What to me felt like a short story (a novella at best) fleshed out produce a full length novel. It wasn't just that the characters felt undeveloped, that I didn't know their back stories, it was that their stories in this novel never seemed to progress; that despite individual chapters being given over to the perspective of one particular character at a time I didn't feel I got to know any of them.

Largely billed as a cosy heartwarming festive romance that will make you laugh out loud. Cosy, I'll give you. Heart warming ... Hmm. As for a romance? Not too big on romances to begin with (at least this one was neither too steamy nor nauseatingly sickly sweet as to be off putting) I do think romance fans may be disappointed by it though. And as for humorous? OK, so some of it raised a bit of a smile but laugh out loud? I can't say I did but then, all of it, its all subjective.

I picked this up as part of a book lot for sale on Facebook marketplace in Fall 2021. I thought it was going to be a cheesy Christmas story and I was right - but actually the story and character development was better than I expected! It wasn’t until I finished the book and read the author’s notes at the end that I found out it was part of a series. (Which might explain not quite getting a cold feel for a couple of characters - but I chalked that up to skimming the first few chapters because I wasn’t expecting much of it - now I realize it could still be that or it might be something that I missed in book 1.)

I did find a lot of grammatical/punctuation errors, which normally I’d rate the book down for, but I think the extra details in the storyline made up for it well enough…actually enough that I’m considering finding book 1. (Normally a series like this would be a little too “Hallmark movie” for me - though I make an exception for them at Christmas.)

Wonderful book & a good read.
Storyline revolves around getting The Little Clock House on the Green up & open for business before christmas.
Kate is the owner & learning about beauty treatments, in advance of opening the treatment part of her business.
Daniel is setting up the hive & the co -working space he's going to manage & is Kates' boyfriend.
Juliet is managing the hairdressing part.
Emma, just over from America, is managing the café/bar area.
Oscar is helping with carpentry, as well as running his own business & is Juliets' boyfriend.
Jake who has inherited Knightly Hall, is helping with design, planning & planting the courtyard, as well as re-planting his own gardens at the hall, when he has time & money.
There are various other characters parading in & out the book.
This is a romantic comedy, but not one of those sugary sweet sickly ones. It's truly poignant & lovely.

This book was the perfect read for the mood I was in. It is lighthearted with some romance thrown in, and helped me get into the festive mood for Christmas. As I was reading the story, I realised that there was a prequel to this tale. Not having read it, however, did not prevent me from enjoying this novel.

Devon's story was enchanting, and caused a smile on my face as I was reading. The story also made me think of Jane Austen's Emma with the main characters being Emma and Jake Knightley (a landowner with not much money). It was fun to read the subtle references to the an older story set in an 1800s English village. In spite of the references to an older story, Christmas at the Little Clock on the Green is a contemporary story that a modern woman can relate.

Even though it didn't wow me, I enjoyed this novel. It is a romance story that did not disappoint.

This book was just pure feel good Christmas romance and hilarity.

Despite having not read the first one, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and witnessing Jake and Emma's relationship blossom, I enjoyed the town and all the characters I'm sure we were introduced to in the first one. I will definitely keep my eyes open for the next one!

I do have one question that remains though: Who does that elf belong to?

This was hilarious and adorable. The story picks up where the first book left off, but adds a few characters, further endearing me to the small (fictional) town of Whispers Wood. Seriously. Can I move there now?
It’s Christmas with all the decorating and celebrating while also the opening of the Clock House on the Green for its new purpose. Add in a little family mystery maybe a little folklore and I was hooked/ trying to keep from laughing out loud during my lunch break.

I adored this festive delight—a charming portrayal of a quintessential British Christmas. Transported by nods to Jane Austen, it created a warm, enchanting escape. The characters felt familiar, threading together a tale of camaraderie, budding love, and the enchantment of the holiday. Perfect for snuggling up by the fire with a hot drink, it beautifully captures the essence of the season. Rating: 4.5/5 🎄✨
