Rebel Belle #1-2

Debutantes & Daggers

Rate this book
The first two Rebel Belle novels, now together in one gorgeous volume!

Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts. Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person.

With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this volume combines bestseller Rachel Hawkins' first two Rebel Belle novels--Rebel Belle and Miss Mayhem.

Fun easy read! The novel itself was quite lengthy, but given there was two full length novels in this one bound edition! The reading itself I can see it being very popular with the “tween” readers especially! Easy reading level lots of soap opera drama that I find at my let’s say older years is crazy that remembering all the teen angst years combined with the supernatural aspect, comedy & romance factors! Overall, I did enjoy this & looking forward to the conclusion as I’m looking forward to a good ole fashion HEA to this cute novel that provides a brief respite from reality—as all great novels provide my bookworm nature!!!!

This is actually 2 books in one, which I didn't realize when I bought it. This edition contains the first 2 books and there is a 3rd book that finishes the series.

This book wasn't aimed at adults and I think that's important to remember when reading it. The teen drama in this series may not be for you.

Personally, I thought the first book was good. It was adventurous and moved quickly. There wasn't a lot of unnecessary detail and yet Rachel Hawkins (the author) did a really good job at not leaving plot holes either. I get annoyed when you read a book and there are so many questions left, but Rebel Belle actually fills you in. The characters are a bit a-typical, but there is some humor sprinkled about. Even with the darkness in the plot, the book is a fast read and a decent teenage fantasy adventure.

The second book drags and feels unnecessary. It was really a struggle to finish it. I kept finding myself putting the book down. There are plot holes in this book and a lot left unanswered. I'm not sure if it's answered in the 3rd book or not, but I don't intend on reading it. The book seems to rely on teen drama to push it through and mostly with break-ups and dating, which is a tiresome plot. It really felt like they could have just added another 50 pages to the first book and been done with it.

I Liked the Rebel Belle Series alot. I usually wouldn't have picked up one of these books but I did, and I'm so happy I did. The Rebel Belle series is what got me into reading. I like this book because it's the first and second one in one and I just feel like it's easier to read that way then to get the whole series book by book. I love David and Harper's relationship I just love enemies to lovers and the way that they care for each other just makes me have butterflies in my stomach. It's such a cute series and I just recommend to everyone. When I bought it was literally only a dollar so I'm happy about that. I can get why people don't like it, I'll have to read it again just to give it more thorough review cuz I did read it almost a year ago. So this review might not be up to date to my expectations now. As the series went on I feel like the southern feel of the book decreased tho its sill relevant. I think it's a cute fun easy read and anyone should read it and or try it out at least

This book was not completely Terrible. But, let me just give you my individual ratings because it was a binder. The first book I actually gave four out of five stars. It was really good there was some action and the characters seem very likable first. The second one I kind of have to give two stars. I did not really feel interested and I felt that it dragged on. It was really slow nothing was happening and the main character annoyed the heck out of me. I don’t know if I even want to start the third book because I didn’t really like it. It did not live up to the expectations that I had.

OK, this is probably never getting finished. I blew through the first book in this bind-up quickly, thought it was just OK, read one of two chapters of the second book and then just never picked it back up. And I'm sick of staring at it on my "currently reading" shelf!
Maybe I'll come back to this someday ... but there are just so many things on my shelves that are higher priority. This was a $1.24 impulse buy from Bookoutlet, so I don't feel much guilt about letting it fall to the wayside.

Book 1: 5 stars
Book 2: 3.5 stars

So much fun! A very cute series with cute romance and a snappy hero. I love the main cast even though they're definitely frustrating teenagers sometimes. All in all the series and world has a lot of potential and I hope it's fulfilled in book three, as book two does have a slight slump and loses some of the charm and humour of the first. Still worth a read!

Surprisingly good! Definitely a dystopian ya novel but I liked it.

Second book was WILDLY DISAPPOINTING. I know there’s a third in this series but I don’t even want to bother with it. Barely anything was resolved and Harper’s life is just destroyed for the sake of saving her friend? Nope. Don’t like it.

After the first book, I was planning on giving a rating of 3 stars, assuming that if I were in middle school, I would have enjoyed the book far more. However, the second book quite honestly removed any doubts I had that this is a terribly written series.

Firstly, the entire two books feel incredibly out of touch with actual high school life. As a college student, I realize that I am far closer in age to the characters than the author, so perhaps the writing would have been better if the characters weren't 17 year old juniors. Harper especially was incredibly shallow and annoying, though really all of the characters were quite annoying.

Additionally, it seems that Hawkins has some strange vendetta against anyone who doesn't fit the mold of the average popular high school girl. Sentences such as "I'd hid out in the library like a weirdo because I hadn't wanted to face Bee or Ryan yet," make the second book even more agonizing to read. It's as if the author wanted to focus a book on the inner monologue of a teenage bully as she falls from popularity and loses pretty much everything of importance to her.

However, I did finish the entire work, just to be disappointed by the rushed, lackluster ending where David runs away and everything supposedly goes back to normal. It's totally a crappy ending, even if it was supposed to set up for the third book in the series. I very rarely give away books that I bought, but this one was a mistake, and I will be donating it because there is no chance that I would read it again. Or let anyone in my life struggle through reading it just to be disappointed.
