Illinois is a complicated state with a rich history, covering a fairly vast area. I think one of the hardest things to write must be books which are this short on such broad topics. There's just too much information to pick and choose from. This...was a little disappointing.

My thoughts are that this book is more about trivia and such a high overview that if you had a child wanting to write a report on Illinois, this wouldn't provide enough information to pick and choose from to cover the topic. This book is more about whetting the appetite.

Oddly enough, there's more information in this book about the structure of government in the state, a topic which seems a little out of place given the intended audience who really won't understand or appreciate this information.

Overall I'm a little baffled by this book and wish it were much more...cohesive perhaps, with a better layout. This is surprising because I've read other books by Josh Gregory and really liked them. This one kind of misses the mark a little unless it's really meant to be nothing more than trivial.
