I was afraid that this would be like "The Bell Curve", but after reading it, realized it was almost the exact opposite. The authors main thesis is that, in addition to nature and nurture, some students are genetically disposed to struggle at Math, Reading, Science, or some other school subject. They spell out how it is possible in each chapter for each subject, and then explain how to fix it. It is an interesting book that lays out the solutions at the end that seem reasonable and what teachers can and should be doing. Will it happen overnight? No. The authors think that these fixes are easy ones to make, and they are not. But I feel the authors believe that it can come if our teachers and leaders really want to help our children and be the best that they can be.
