The Daimon High School spectacular will be concluded mano y mano in a group of magnificent melees and explosive exchanges: After stopping Project Z, Ryoko loses her memory; the battle between "Shinsen-gumi" and "G-gumi" goes to the second round; and the battle of Ryoko vs Shizuma just might go the distance. Nobody pulls a punch in the no-holds-barred final installment of this butt-kicking-and-name-taking series!
The end has come for SAMURAI GIRL, and the epic rematch between Shinsengumi and the Vipers concludes at Dragon Land! Ryoko Mitsurugi discovers the terrible truth that binds G and Aoi together, but will that knowledge help against the sadistic leader of the Vipers? Brace for wall-to-wall fighting as the good do battle with the evil on many fronts...and one way or the other, all roads lead back to Daimon High and to the real bout that you've been waiting for! The K-Fight for the ages between samurai idol Ryoko Mitsurugi and her ultimate rival, Shizuma Kusanagi, with the entire school watching! Will the samurai girl become a great woman?
As much action as there was in the previous volumes, every stop has been pulled for the grand finale! As some try to expose the criminals responsible for the whole damn mess, others can only simply fight, but there's a LOT of fighting! Like the WWE, alleigances even shift on a dime but for good reason, which heightens the drama. We're even allowed to see into the past of the main villain, G, and how he's connected to Aoi...we've been waiting for answers about them for a little too long! Again, however, there are gaffes in the plot and dialog...not as bad as Vol. 5, but still pretty distracting. For example, Midori had a personal stake in everything, something about her father, but it's never explained! (Like I said in my review of the last volume, deadlines had to be a factor...it may just be the case the writing of the story in the last two volumes was rushed. And too much!) And then some things happen that make NO sense at all, like a bunch of the characters finding themselves in a desert -- which is supposed to be in the amusement park, but this desert is WAY too big...on second thought, it'll only sprain your brain to find logic at times like that, so just roll with it! The cohesion of story and plot in the first four volumes of SAMURAI GIRL just seemed to almost fall apart in 5 and 6, which is a shame; as a writer, I'd love to fix it, but that's not up to me! It's the fighting and how it's so beautifully drawn that's the real payoff here; imperfections aside, this last volume is spectacular and the threads of the plot are tied up and resolved in satisfying ways. The conclusion of Ryoko's quest to become a great woman isn't QUITE as good as the first four volumes, but definitely an improvement over the fifth! If you're a fan of manga and how over the top the artform can get, you should enjoy it! :)
