In this complete reimagining of Pride and Prejudice, Erin Butler places a mystery inside one of the most beloved titles of all time.
All of Meryton is in a state of shock.
Mr. Petrie, the shopkeeper, has been found dead. Worse yet for the Bennet family, their father is implicated in the murder. It could not have come at a more abhorrent time as Mr. Bingley has just settled at Netherfield and the whole family has high hopes of one of their daughter's marrying the gentleman.
Elizabeth knows what must be done. In order for her family to keep its good name, the stain of guilt must be removed. The murderer must be sought--and she is the one to do it. Through inquiries and mishaps, and a little help from Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth stumbles upon the answers to bring her closer to the truth. Will Elizabeth discover the murderer's true identity, or will Meryton lay in wait of another tragedy?
This Pride & Prejudice variation is suitable for all ages.
First know that this story ends at 74% on kindle. We then are treated to promotions for other books. Secondly the title is rather misleading as there is little, if any, courtship going on. There is a murder as the book description tells us. Elizabeth is determined to stick her nose into the mystery due to the fact that her father has been accused and seems to be treating it all as a joke.
While Elizabeth goes off to question any name mentioned in connection to the case, she finds Mr. Darcy also showing up unexpectedly. He seems to find her questions posed to various persons amusing and he also tries to warn her off.
The events move quickly and the matter comes to an end....only to have Jane invited to tea by certain sisters.
So the little town of Meryton proves that you don't need the big city of London for murder, intrigue, scandal and some people who can't seem to get their facts straight.
I very much enjoyed this Meryton cozy mystery. When one of the Bennets is suspected of murder Lizzy realizes that she is the only one with the will and the grit to solve this case before her family is ruined. She interviews witnesses and suspects; sometimes over tea, tests alibis and collects clues. All while being warned off by multiple people that this isn't the job for a woman. But she perseveres and solves the crime.
This is a short book and it ends at or about 72% on my Kindle so the author can offer a lengthy sample of another book. But I would still recommend this short tale.
this was an interesting mystery. but there is not much interaction between Elizabeth and Darcy. I do not think calling it a courtship is a fair description. but this is a series so maybe in the next they will interact more. oh, it ends early on Kindle.
A Pride and Prejudice variation, where who would want to kill shopkeeper Mr Martin Petrie. Elizabeth is determined to find out because her father is the first to be accused. A cozy mystery
