1 Girl. 2 Destinies. An heir to the city or leader of a rebellion.
All Josephine Anne Dupree ever dreamed of was being a normal teenager, but she was anything but. She was the next heir to Dupree Heights and now that she was sixteen she was invited to the debutante court. Although she loathed the debutante program, she was excited at the prospect of meeting other kids her age and leaving the estate she had been imprisoned to. What she didn’t expect was to fall in love with someone well below her station and fall prey to the jealous eyes of the other girls. When a court becomes a circus, Josephine begins to discover the truth behind her father’s death, secrets of the city buried deep in its history, and the strength she will need to lead the city into a better future.
"For those who read and loved Keira Cass' The Selection, Dani Hart has a new series that's perfect for you! Reign of Crowns, Book 1 in the Dupree Heights series is very similar in the romantic sense of young girl on verge of womanhood thrust into the world of love with every eye upon her. Paired with our favorite classic fairytales, Hart changes things up a bit in her post cyber attack dystopian world. Josephine is sheltered, ignorant of the world she is to lead and unable to trust anyone but the notes of her dead father. Torn between two men, Josie must choose who to trust her head or her heart." ~ Southern Vixens Book Obsessions
I am a self-published multi-genre author with an emphasis on YA (young adult) paranormal, dystopian, and fantasy. I also write Contemporary with an emphasis on NA (new adult) and women's fiction.
I grew up in southern California and graduated with a B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of Southern California. I married my high school sweetheart who is a firefighter for LA City and we settled into a quieter life with our two kids in Utah. I returned to my artistic passion for writing in 2013 and am loving every second of my art, kids, and husband.
I have a thing for royalty novels, so when I saw this title and cover, I had wanted to read it as I assumed it was a royal novel. Turns out to be a YA Dystopian novel and one that reminded of the book series The Selection and The Jewel. Every year, there is a season where debutantes -normally the wealthy attend parties and are eventually matched with a bachelor which by the end of the season should end with a proposal for marriage. This year though is a special one as it is the fiftieth anniversary and the season has been opened up to all the different class levels; it is also the year that Josephine aka Josie Dupree is debuting. Josie is sixteen and the eldest daughter of the Dupree name; her family is considered royalty in Dupree Heights named after her grandfather. However, Josie has no interest in the season as she is in love with someone who she can never be with - Grayson especially not now that she has been matched with Sterling Wild. Years ago, Josie's dad died, and she has been kept sheltered until now as she learns the truth about who her father was and this upcoming year Josie will have to make a decision that will change not only her life forever but those around her. Reign of Crowns was slow to start with, but as it got along, the story picked up and OMG readers it does end on a cliffhanger. I am now looking forward to reading Book #2 and seeing what direction Dani Hart takes this series. Reign of Crowns is the perfect read for those who are not yet sick of the YA Dystopian genre and also if your guilty watching pleasure is The Bachelor and Debutante shows, then you will feel right at home with Book #1 Reign of Crowns.
This was my first YA dystopian to read this year and Dani Hart did not disappoint. I first heard about Dani Hart through Kandi Steiner, one of my favorite authors. I knew if she was raving about her I had to check her books out. The cover alone was just beyond gorgeous and when reading the synopsis for this book, I crossed my fingers I would get an ARC of this book.
This book had me hooked from the first chapter. We start off with Josephine or “Josie” being a young care-free sixteen year old who is basically sheltered most of her life since she is a Dupree. The Dupree’s are very important people who founded Dupree Heights. A top-notch elite place to live for the rich and wealthy. She is appointed a young man to watch over her Grayson or “Gray” and who is to be her escort to the fiftieth anniversary debutante ball. The ball is where young boys and girls are basically paired up and are to be wed off in the span of a year. Since Josie is so sheltered and rarely allowed to leave her home we watch Josie struggle with befriending girls her own age, finding true love, and learning how to be a strong, independent, selfless young lady. The horrible secrets that are revealed to her about her family, will either make or break her.
I loved Josie, and how even though she was not allowed to explore her surroundings much, she loved books and was very imaginative. I also loved the fact that she was so close to her little sister and would do anything to protect her. Family and new friendships play a very important role in this book. And since there are forty-nine other girls who must live with her during the debutante lessons of course drama ensues. I only wish the girls were a bit older, say eighteen or nineteen, instead of sixteen.
I highly recommend this book. YA fantasy/dystopian is one of my favorite genre’s, so if you love that genre as well you will surely love this book! I cannot wait to see what Dani Hart has in store for the next book in this series.
Dani has a fantastic way of bringing you into this fantasy world that you feel and breath everything that is written on the page as your truth. I've been a fan of Dani's for a while and each book she writes amazes me more and more, wondering why more people aren't on the Dani Hart train. She opens her worlds up in a way that you can't wait to see what's next. Reign of Crowns is a fabulous start to this new series. And don't be dismayed by the YA label on her books. I love that her books are full of strong heroines and excellent role models for young girls today. This is a book that I can easily read with my pre-teen daughter and both of us enjoy.
Pick up this book - it's a true gem that will keep you captivated and counting down to book two!
This was a book that really surprised me, I wasn't sure what to expect as I don't usually read dystopian books but I now have a new genre to add to my list. I really enjoyed the story , it has a real depth to it without it being complicated which made it easy to follow. There is almost a feeling of straddling two times, the past where Josephine has been selected to a be presented at the debutante ball and the future where the Dupree's had founded Dupree Heights where the rich and privileged live. I really enjoyed the story it has the perfect mix of charcters you will love and some you will hate and distrust with a passion. I can't wait till book 2 comes out.
I was captivated by this story from the first page. Reign of Crowns is a dystopian YA novel and is set in Dupree Heights. Dupree Heights is a well formed and thought out place.
We meet Josephine, a young lady who grew up sheltered. Josephine turned 16 and is selected to be 1 of 50 debutants. Each debutant is paired up with a bachelor. While struggeling to fit in with the other girls and attending the mandatory festivities Josie uncovers secrets.
Reign of Crowns is the first book from the Dupree Heights serie. Totally a recommadation for fans of the Selection. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
The world of Dupree Heights is well formed and beautiful. The characters are those of which you love, and love to hate. It's a perfect mix of The hunger Games, meets the Selection. I was hooked from the very first page. You will fall in love too. Can't wait for the next instalment!

☆☆☆☆ 4.5 STARS ☆☆☆☆
Reign of Crowns book one is a great mix of The Hunger Games and Divergent. As every start of a series, this book goes into a lot of explanations and expectations for the present and future. Josephine Dupree is the highest of all family and known by everybody. I love her character as she is a strong and very smart. But just like every teenage girl who is put in a situation in between two gorgeous boys, it’s easy to mix real feelings, to just wanting to do the right thing. There is Sterling who has been promised to her since she was little and there is Gray who fell for her. Sterling seemed great, but I was hooked by Gray from the start. He was all about Josie’s safety and his feelings for her was genuine and Sterling was unknown. Josie puts these two guys in a love triangle, as she was indecisive on what she really wanted to do or should do. At this point Sterling is very much a mystery, while Gray is an open book and believe in the same things as Josie. I am a big fan of Gray and I’m rooting for Josie to pick him.
There is so much mystery in this story, that I couldn’t wait to find out more. At every page I was more and more hooked into this new series. Author Dani Hart made this new world that is both beautiful and broken, I cannot wait to read more of it. This book may have ended with a cliffhanger, but it was an ending that makes me super excited for book 2.
"I sucked in a defeated breath and braced myself as I faced the young man who would spend the next year by my side, courting me, and there wasn't anything I could do about it. I was trapped, again, only in a bigger cage."
Josephine Dupree will one day be the "Queen" of her namesake, Dupree Heights. Unfortunately, that's the last thing she wants. Held by obligation and privilege, she must endure a year of fancy dresses, themed parties, finishing school, and one bachelor to court her throughout the entire thing...
Too bad her heart was given to someone else long ago.
"No matter your feelings for me now, I promise for this year, I'm your devoted bachelor, and I hope you are my devoted debutante. We can discuss our future after the debutante year. No pressure beyond that. Does that sound agreeable to you?"
Sounds dreamy, right? Wrong.
Being sixteen, sheltered, and emotionally unavailable with no knowledge of the real happenings in her own city, Josie's naivety not only makes her the center of attention, but a target.
In this world Hart has created, she takes two very different story elements and mashes them beautifully together to create something unique and original. This is the kind of dystopian-sci-fi story I can get into.
And I did! The beginning started slow, giving great detail to the socialite aspect of the story, but the undertones and small hints throughout gave a glimmer of what's to come. As the pages dwindled, the story unfolded--quicker by the second--leaving me breathless as I read the last words.
"Just because you leave here with more knowledge than you came, doesn't change who you are and where you came from. It only shifts the landscape to which you gaze upon."
As unrest begins to spread through the city, and people are exposed for who they truly are...I look forward to how enlightenment and pure bravery of one girl changes everything.
Another beautifully written book by Dani Hart, she has created a new world unlike any other.
Josie aka Josephine Ann Dupree has led a sheltered life, hidden and protected from the new outside world. She is selected as one of the few debutantes to be paired with a selected partner. Josie suddenly finds herself having to leave her sister and heart wrenchingly her assistant Grayson.
Throughout the book I could feel her inner turmoil and the strength of her character gradually building. As she battles with her love triangle, can she choose between Grayson and Sterling? and is she actually in a position to make that choice?
I love to read something vastly different from the norm, something that stretches my imagination and this book certainly did that. I did find myself needing a little more action in places, however this didn't distract how beautifully different this book is.
I loved this book so much! Its like if the Red Queen and the Selection series had the perfect love child, IT IS AMAZING! I loved the detail with which Dani describes not only the settings but even the smallest details like clothing. (Part of the fun I think in these royal type of stories is to put yourself in the role and imagine wearing all of the extravagant, gorgeous clothing) but this story is much more than just a pretty face.
Josie is an amazing character. When we first meet her she is impish and sheltered but yet you can tell she has this inner strength that hasn't had a chance to shine. . . Yet! But just you wait! We find out early how society operates in this changed world after cyber attacks have damaged life as we know it.
There are so many twists and turns that I was speechless and flipping pages trying to figure everything out and I lost track of time and before I knew it hours had passed -- I was left with a finished book, a new automatic one click author and a major case of grabby hands for a print copy of this book! I'm already planning my reread. This was my first Dani Hart book and I know it won't be my last. I can already tell this is gonna be my top series recommendation this year and in my top 5 reads of the year for all genres.
Dani Hart continues to impress me with her thoughtful and romantic YA novels! I'll admit, I wasn't sure what to expect going into Reign of Crowns, but after reading the words The End, I wanted more of this world, these characters!
I'm not sure how to classify this book. I guess dystopian is probably the best classification. It is set in the "future," years in the future after a massive cyber attack that changed everything. Our heroine, Josephine, is the granddaughter of the man who worked to bring life back to normal. In the process, he basically created a world of the haves and the have-nots. Josephine is part of the Haves. She has been isolated in her house and now must be part of the Debutantes ceremony. Yep, it's exactly like you're thinking it is, but with a little twist.
There is a sweet romance between Josephine and Gray, a boy who was tapped to be her debutante escort. But, we all know how these things work, right? He plays an important role in her life as her first love and more.
I am telling you, this is one clever story with romance, intrigue, a bit of danger and some pertinent social commentary that will have you saying "hmmm."
I finished Reign of Crowns and I absolutely loved it! It's a long read (about 412 pages) and I still wanted more when it was over. 🙈 I literally swiped to the next page on my kindle, hoping for more when it was over, but there wasn't and now I really want the next book to come out already. I need more Josephine, Gray and Sterling in my life. XD
This is the first Dystopian novel I have ever read, and I absolutely enjoyed reading it from beginning to end. The way Dani Hart writes makes you feel like you're watching a movie play out in your head, because it is so well written that you can envision everything as you read it. 🎥 I've also mentioned this to a few people already, but when it comes to Hart's novels, she writes the protagonists love interests so well I have a hard time choosing between the two because they are just so dang charming and perfect that I just can't choose between them. Basically I am #TeamAll as Dani put so well herself. Lol
I cannot recommend this book enough and absolutely give it 5 out of 5 stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Wow, just wow! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writing, the mystery, the intrigue are just so exquisitely done. Dani Hart has got to be one of the best young adult authors and that title doesn’t come lightly by me.
The Reign of Crowns is the story of Josephine as she travels through her perfectly crafted life. She’s been chosen to be a debuatante and will be paired and married to her suitor after all is said and done. However, things aren’t so easy and there are hidden truths and webs of lies surrounding her.
The world that was created by Dani Hart is complete. Her writing of the characters and the world she created will draw you in. I couldn’t stop reading this book. She also expertly weaves this world of hidden truths. I finished the first book, and I’m not even sure where all of this will lead. That to me, this is master craftsmanship. To say I can’t wait for the next book, would be a huge understatement. I think we are talking an epic tale here. It certainly is a brilliant start to this series.
A fantastic read into an unknown world. This YA book will leave you yearning for more. I absolutely cannot wait until the next book is out. Dani Hart sucked me into her mind and I don't want to be let go. An awesome read for adults of YA. 5+ stars!!! I need the next one!!
Josie is 16 and has been sheltered her whole life. Living in an unruly and unpredictable world, she is safe within the walls of her home and her city. Tragedy changes that balance and she feels it's her and her little sister against the world. It's her job to protect her and to always look out for her.
Privileged within this city, Josie knows nothing of the secrets and lies that surround her very existence. Two young men come into her life at nearly the same time. While her heart battles over these two, her mind battles over so much more. When information is revealed and lies come to light, Josie's whole life is thrown off balance and she will need to make a choice. Heartache and pain will surely follow whichever choice she makes.
For those who read and loved Keira Cass' The Selection, Dani Hart has a new series that's perfect for you! Reign of Crowns, Book 1 in the Dupree Heights series is very similar in the romantic sense of young girl on verge of womanhood thrust into the world of love with every eye upon her. Paired with our favorite classic fairytales Hart changes things up a bit in her post cyber attack dystopian world. Josephine is sheltered, ignorant of the world she is to lead and unable to trust anyone but the notes of her dead father. Torn between two men, Josie must choose who to trust her head or her heart. While I wanted a bit more post apocalyptic world to this story and less grandness of the debutante ball, what Hart has set up for the rest of the series shows great promise. I felt like this first novel was just the back story to what will be an amazing story of a young girls ability to lead and change the world her family created.
This book was great! It is a dystopian YA book and it pulls you into the city of Dupree Heights. The world that Dani Hart has created is written out and she catches all the details of it. I found myself wishing I could be there in the story especially with all the debutants. The characters are well formed and most of them you wish we could be friends with. Then there are those that you aren't sure if you want to be friends with or you want to slap. She keeps you thinking with all the twists and turns she takes the story on and that is what keeps you drawn to the story. You just need to find out what is going to happen next and will Josephine get here happily ever after. Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys? Just when you think you know something happens and leaves you feeling unsure again. I love the surprise! I can't wait for the next book and will definitely be waiting excitedly to read more.
I was lucky enough to win an ARC of this book and I devoured it. Take all the great elements of The Hunger Games and add a pinch of The Selection and you've got the recipe for Reign of Crowns.
Welcome to Dupree Heights, where we meet the sheltered but ready for anything Miss Josephine Dupree, who is selected to be one of 50 debutants paired up with a mate in a Hunger Games like spectacle, only without the physical fight to stay alive. Josie struggles to fit in with the 49 other girls, all while uncovering a web of lies her family has spun, and dealing with some guy problems.
I adored all the characters, from the friendships she built to the ones I loved to hate, but living in Dupree Heights with Josie through her ups and downs for those few hours is what really had me at the edge of my seat.
Top 5 of the year right here. Another amazing book by Ms.Hart.
This dystopian-esque book has slayed me! If you enjoyed Hunger Games/ Divergent and The Selection series. You won't want to miss out on this fantastic new series. Each chapter drags you deeper into Dupree Heights, the home of the elite. As well as snippets of life in the town surrounding the Heights. Josephine is an amazing, strong, selfless lead in this book. Deceit, hardships, love and loss all have huge parts in this breathtaking new series. It truly brings fairytales to life while also having that fantastic dystopian hardness to it. I'm frantically awaiting the second installment of this series. It's one of my new favorite series. Grab this book. Make sure you read it! It is amazing 5/5 stars A T&A Book Blog
I have loved everything of Dani Hart's and REIGN OF CROWNS is no exception. An outstandingly well written, and captivating novel, readers are thrown into the computer desolate future where Dupree Heights was made solely for the regeneration of the world. When Josephine Dupree is shoved into the debutante lifestyle that her mother has primped her for, she isn't sure what to expect. So much happened within this first novel, that it will leave readers completely reeling. So many conspiracy theories, and ideas that leaves readers, as well as "Josie" needing so many more answers than what they're given. A great dystopian novel that I thought was well written with a great story line, some phenomenal characters (swoon over Sterling!), and a lot of suspense (in a sense) that will keep readers on edge.
When you pick this book up you get pulled into a dystopian world with debutants and rebels. You get to know the characters and fall into love or loath with them. Dani Hart spins a fantastic world with laughs, hope, betrayal, anger, and love. You follow Josie as she descends into the world and finds her life isn't what she thought it was. Watch her to go from a helpless damsel to a born leader ready to fight along with the friends, family and possible love interest that she has found along the journey to finding herself. So kick off your heels, put away the lace, let down your hair, and enjoy this amazing first book in the Dupree heights series!
This book was a lovely read . Josephine was a well bred young girl . She had lost her father and didn't wonder far from the home ( castle of sort ) This girl lived to read , more than loved it was her escape . The. Came a boy who was to be her escort Grayson . Things blind us from the truth , but sometimes we ding see what's in plain sight . You will read about a journey that brings more than just a girl becoming a lady , it shows lies , and lots of dark secret U will be like me gutted it ended . Very well written loved it
I was fortunate to receive an ARC of Reign of Crowns. I'll start by saying dystopian books are not my favorite, so I didn't have high hopes. I usually struggle to envision the time/place/feel for these types of books. Though I didn't get a perfect vision of Dupree Heights, I felt it was well described and thought out. I got a subtle hunger games feel with the characters stories, but it wasn't overwhelming. I was pleasantly surprised with this book and will definitely look forward to the next installment.
Reign of Crowns is a mix of The Selection meets The Hunger Games, where our heroine Josephine is pulled from her sheltered world and thrust into the limelight.
Reign of Crowns takes us on Josephine also known as Josie's journey of self-discovery, holding on the what she holds dear as she navigates the debutante the life, where she has to decide who to trust, and to trust her heart or her head.
Dani Hart, set the reader up for another great series and I cannot wait to read more from these characters, so I loved to hate and some I just flat out loved.
I loved this book. This kind of of story was unlike anything I've read so far and I loved it. It gives you the feel of the past but also the aspects of the future. This dystopian story was done beautifully and I loved every word. The characters really grabbed my attention and I can't wait for the next book. This story has so much depth to it. It really makes you think and wonder about what the future holds. The author knows how to spin a tale and I'm so happy I found a new author I love.
This is my first ever read by Dani Hart. I follow her on Instagram and as I blogger, I had to share the news about the book behind this gorgeous cover.
I typically don't pick up YA novels; I'm not the same person I was 5 years ago, and I find myself relating more to the characters of an NA genre. Understandable, right?
But this dystopian, royal read did not disappoint. I loved Josie's character. She shows a completely different side to her, a more shy side, whenever she interacts with Grayson, who keeps a close eye on her as a Dupree.
Being the first book I read from Dani Hart, I didn't know what to expect, but boy oh boy was I surprised to find a combination of The Hunger Games and The Divergent Series in this incredible story.
Reign of Crowns is incredibly good. This futuristic dystopia series will have you hooked from beginning to end. You honestly don't want to miss it, I guarantee you will love it too.
Dani Hart delivered one heck of a book.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Dani Hart did an amazing job in Reign of Crowns. It's just like your fairytale except it has a dystopian twist added on to it. I’m a huge fan of the hunger games so I really loved this book and that’s what it reminded me of. However, I did feel that the writing was well thought out and the dystopian part was descriptive enough. I really enjoyed the character Josephine and how she enjoyed to read so much. Overall, Hart did a wonderful job!
Dani Hart's "Reign of Crowns" is the first tale in the Dupree Heights series. This is a YA dystopian future tale. It's very well written. I don't usually read YA, but this really drew me in and kept me reading. It feels like a cross between "The Maze Runner" and "Flowers in the Attic" with a dash of a historical with all of the debutantes and balls. A spritz of "Hunger Games" too. I can't wait to read #2!
