This Lesbian romance is well written and pulls you right in. The woman who catches the heroine's eye lives a charmingly eccentric lifestyle as an aristocratic widow who hosts salons and whisks our heroine away from an unwanted betrothal. A lot of historical novels will jar the reader out of the story by having the characters display improbable modern attitudes, but this novel doesn't fall into that trap; the characters are able to strain against the dictates of their time in a way believable for the period. Also, the characters who stand between the heroine and her female beloved are not monsters, they are people of their time trying to do right by their family members by their lights.
