Bethany called Lani and asked for her help in uncovering the truth about what really happened to Cammy. The contest, which involves unlocking clues which lead to locations around the island where the next clue can be found, has a clause which allows for a substitute to be named should one of the contestants be unable to finish. Lani decides that the best way to help Bethany find out what happened to her sister is to enter the contest as Cammy's replacement. She takes two weeks off work from her job as a water safety officer and travels to Maui.

Once Lani gets a feel for the game she quickly realizes that something odd is going on with the hacks which are part of the game. Luke is visiting his family and Lani needs a tech nerd to help her with the brains part of the competition, so she calls new friend Zak Zimmerman and asks if he and Zoe would be willing to come to Maui to help her uncover the conspiracy behind the mystery.

Join Luke and Lani, Zak and Zoe, as they race to uncover the clues faster than anyone else while outwitting a hacker and identifying a killer.

This is the best in the series so far. Still a nice, easy read, but with more intrigue and action against the background of a Brawn and Brains competition. That it is set in Maui is a big bonus. And the crossover of characters (Zoe and Zak) from another popular Daley series is super fun. Also, I always enjoy stories that include a hunt for clues at different locations, and this one delivered. 4.5*

No. 7 in series will be reaching the top of the good ole' TBR in the next couple days or so. Can't get enough of the sun, sand, and sea in the face of the upcoming cold mainland weather!

This book was Awesome! The characters were so much fun and quirky, loveable. That you were rooting for them to find the clues and who was the murderer. The storyline had me on pins and needle waiting to find out how everything was going to workout. A must read !

Lani's close friend, Bethany has asked Lani to take her sister's place in the Amazing Brains and Brawn Race that is taking place on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Bethany's sister, Cammy died in an accidental tumble from a cliff top after confiding to Bethany that something was wrong with the contest. The contest involves two people on each team, one a computer expert and the other one with athletic skills. With boyfriend Luke on a visit to his family in Texas, Lani calls upon new friends, Zoe and Zak Zimmerman to help her. With Zak's computer expertise, they discover that something is going on with the computer hacks that each team has to do daily, to find a clue that leads to another clue until they get a final code that determines their place in the next day's lineup. With the early return of Luke, he and Lani race all over the island finding the clues while Zak works to discover who is really behind the million dollar prize that is up for grabs. Zoe is busy getting friendly with other teams who have already been eliminated but have to stay for the final reveal. This is a wonderful series with characters that you can relate to. The Hawaiian Islands scenery and historical details pull you in for a wonderful travel adventure and the murder plots will keep you guessing right to the exciting conclusion. Zoe and Zak have their own series of adventures to read about but this cross over with Lani & Luke brings everyone together for a great story that will leave you wanting more!

This is a crossover book between this series and the Zoe Donovan series. Luke and Lani visited Ashton Falls and became friends with Zak and Zoe in EASTER ESCAPADE, and now Lani has called Zak and Zoe to Hawaii to help solve yet another murder.

The action takes place on Maui, and because of the nature of the Brains and Brawn competition, we get a virtual tour of the island, as well as learning a lot of historical information. Ms. Daley has obviously done plenty of research for this story.

Although Zoe spends quite a bit of the book not feeling well, she still manages to be a part of things, and she and Lani once again find themselves in harm's way.

The solution to the mystery surrounding the competition, as well as the reveal of the murderer, was as surprising as usual. There is a lot of suspense and tension throughout the book as the four friends, with some high-powered assistance, try to beat the clock and stay alive.

Can't wait for more from both of these series!

“Murder at Waters Edge” earn 5/5 Encrypted Computer Clues!

Lani Pope is known to do whatever is necessary to help a friend. So, when a friend calls and says her sister, competing in the Amazing Brains and Brawn Race, was found dead at the bottom of cliff, Lani is there to help find the truth. Lani agrees to go undercover and act as a replacement in the contest, and as for her ‘Brains’ partner, she invites new friend Zak Zimmerman, computer wizard extraordinaire, and with seemingly casual rules about outside assistance, Zoe and Luke are the perfect investigative partners. The contest has narrowed down to ten teams hacking computers to discover clues (Brains) leading to destinations requiring physical fitness (Brawn) to win a grand prize of one million dollars. The prize alone could be a motive for murder, or is there something more sinister?

For me it’s an exciting ‘two-fer.’ This is the sixth book in a favorite series Sand and Sea Hawaiian Mystery which adds characters from my other favorite Zoe Donovan series as a follow-up crossover event. If you enjoy this crossover between these two series, check out “Easter Escapade” when Lani and Luke first meet Zoe and Zak in Ashton Falls. Zoe and Lani work well together learning they have a lot in common, topped off by an aptitude for investigating murder.

In “Murder at Waters Edge” Kathi Daley continues to take us on a delightful journey with her characters as they share camaraderie, collaboration, and ‘canoodling.’ The mystery could be the best yet; adding to Kathi’s signature suspense is an exciting race around the island of Maui. I love Maui, so some of my favorite parts were those times Lani explained about Maui history, culture, and sites I, too, have visited. Fans will be thrilled with this engaging mystery, and newbies will not feel out of touch because there is enough information to make it a standalone story. Although if you enjoy experiencing the development of characters and relationships, you’ll love starting with the first book, “Murder at Dolphin Bay.” Each book is 225 pages, give or take, so easily finished over a quiet weekend. I guarantee you will love the islands…Kathi Daley style!

Along with giving us a delightful story, Kathi Daley also gives a wide variety of delicious treats. This set of easy-to-follow recipes were provided by her fans and members of her online recipe exchange: Mauna Loa’s Brandy Slush, Swedish Nut Cake, Chocolate Mud Pie, and Butter Pecan Cake…and you thought you had nothing to serve at the book club!

In this 6th book of the series Lani is trying to help friend Bethany determine what happened the night her sister died; was it an accident or murder? Lani joins the competition Cammy was participating in when she died and calls on new friends Zak and Zoe for help. They jump into the race and realize that more is going on than they previously thought and need to figure out fact from fiction. When things begin to head into illegal territory Lani calls on friend and neighbor Shredder to help keep things above board and moving forward. Clues and hacks abound as the gang tries to decided what is going on with this Competition and how it's suppose to really end. Dive in with Lani and travel a winding road of mystery to find out the truth. I love the crossover between these two couples and how it came full circle in this book. I look forward to more of these in the future, it always gives a more in depth look into the characters.

With an intriguing plot, this cozy mystery is definitely a page turner. In this crossover story, Lani and Luke team up with Zoe and Zak to solve the murder of a friend and determine what exactly is going on in the Brains and Brawn competition where their friend was killed. Lots of sleuthing, hacking, and action in this very interesting story that takes place in Hawaii. Along with the suspense and mystery, you will see romance and friendships continuing to be develop while Zoe is having issues with nausea and tiredness. The characters and plot are well developed and very realistic; the theme is even a little scary. There is even some interesting historical references shared about the places being visited along with some great recipes in the back of the book.

As always when reading one of Ms. Daley's books you are in for a fun read. Lani is pulled into a contest for computer hacks and brawn when a friend's sister is murdered. Knowing she she's not the computer whiz she calls in the help of Zak along with Zoe his wife from another of Ms. Daley's series. Quickly they realize there is something suspicious with the hacks.
This was an interesting story with the game and the hacks, it kept you wondering what was really going on. The only disappointing thing is that in the end you really don't know who was behind it all, but everything else is explained. Of course as always, I love the characters people that you want to sit down with. I can't wait to revisit and eagerly await the next in this series.

Another great crossover book for Kathi Daley. Lani, Luke, Zak, and Zoe are on the case. They join forces to find the person or persons who killed a friend of Lani's. They have to put their thinking caps on for this one.
Wow, a million dollar prize is up for grabs and a murderer to catch! This book is full of page turning adventure and mystery.
Will they be able to find the killer before they get hacked???
Love the crossovers and look forward to more.

Murder At Water’s Edge
Sand and Sea Hawaiian Mystery, Book #6
Kathi Daley
5 Stars

Synopsis:

Luana Akina, a good friend of Lani's, calls and informs her that her sister Mailie has been killed in an auto accident. The accident was determined to be just that, an accident, but Luana isn't so sure that is the case. it seems that prior to her accident Mailie was involved in a local contest with a grand prize of $25,000. She suspected the results were being tampered with so had been quietly snooping around. The night before her accident Mailie had called Luana and told her she was close to something and the next day she was dead. Luana knows that Lani likes to investigate homicides so she asks for her help in uncovering what really happened to Mailie. The contest, which involves unlocking clues which lead to locations around the island where the next clue can be found, has a clause which allows for a substitute to be named should one of the contestants be unable to finish. Lani decides that the best way to help Luana find out what happened to her sister is to enter the contest as Mailie's replacement in order to find out what is going on from the inside. She takes two weeks off work from her job as a water safety officer and then travels to Maui with her boyfriend Luke Austin.

Once Lani gets a feel for the game she quickly realizes that someone has hacked into the computer system and is tampering with the results. Luke is good on the computer but not nearly as good as their new friend Zak Zimmerman, so Lani calls new friend Zoe Donovan-Zimmerman and asks if she and Zak would be willing to come to Maui and help them uncover the conspiracy behind the mystery.

Join Luke and Lani, Zak and Zoe, as they race to uncover the clues faster than anyone else while outwitting a hacker and identifying a killer. (Goodreads)

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Lani, Luke, Zoe and Zak are all likable characters that you would want to be friends with in real life. As usual, this author’s characters really shine. It was great to read about these friends in the same book.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author always has a solid story line that pulls you in from the very beginning. The mystery is carried on well throughout the entire story and it is a bit more complex than what is typically found in a cozy mystery.

I would recommend this book (and all of this author’s series) to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. You cannot go wrong reading anything that she has written.

Murder at Waters Edge is the sixth book in Kathi Daily’s Sand and Sea Hawaiian Mystery series and it is a fun and easy clean read. This is the second series crossover featuring Lani, Luke, Zoe, and Zak. Ms. Daley provides vivid descriptions of Maui and treats the reader with many historical facts about the area. The characters are well developed, delightful, realistic, and likeable; the storyline is well plotted with an intriguing mystery and lots of action. I love Ms. Daley’s writing style and once again, she has succeeded in writing a wonderfully crafted whodunit, mixed with sweet romance, friendship, compassion, and intrigue. The book grabbed my attention on the first page, held my interest throughout the entire story, and kept me guessing until the final reveal. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozies.

Kailani ‘Lani’ Pope’s receives a call from her friend, Bethany Halderman, whose sister, Cammy, was participating in the Amazing Brains and Brawn Race. Cammy is dead and local authorities ruled her death an accident but Bethany has doubts, shares them with Lani, and asks her to help uncover the truth about what happened to Cammy. The contest commenced in Boston, with one hundred teams, moved to Chicago, then to San Francisco, and finally to Maui, where only the top-ten teams remained. The contest involves computer generated hacks that unlock clues on a computer provided by the organizers; after the hack is completed, the participants follow clues to various locations around the island to find the next clue. Cammy and her team partner and fiancé, Stone Silverman, made the cut, and were in second place at the time of her death. The contest rules allow substitutes to join if one or more of the contestants are unable to finish and Lani thinks the best way to help Bethany is to enter the contest as Cammy’s replacement, so she takes two weeks off work and travels to Maui. After gathering some information, Lani believes something odd is going on with the hack part of the game and knows she doesn’t have the skill set the competition requires. Stone is devastated and unable to continue in the competition and Lani’s boyfriend, Luke Austin, who has computer skills, is visiting his family in Texas, so Lani calls Zak Zimmerman and asks him to be the brain part of the team and invites him and his wife, Zoe, to come to Maui to help her. Luke comes to Maui as soon as he can and he joins forces with Lani, Zak, and Zoe but once they get a feel for what’s happening, a decision is made to bring in reinforcements.

Murder at Waters Edge is the 6th book in the Sand and Sea Hawaiian Mysteries by prolific author Kathi Daley. This is a superbly written book, with breath-taking action and detailed levels of mystery that can only be resolved/solved utilizing a crossover with Zak and Zoe from Ms. Daley's Zoe Donovan series. The author pulls the reader from beginning to end with crisp dialog, believable characters, suspense and International intrigue. Each chapter ends with you wanting to read the next one. Very clever plot that stimulates the imagination as the characters rush to solve multiple levels of mystery and suspense utilizing hidden clues and computer hacks combined with brawn and brains. As the story progresses romance and friendships continue to develop. The characters and plot are well developed and realistic; even the theme is realistic and scary. There are even interesting historical references shared specific to the places in Maui that are integral to the plot along with some great recipes in the back of the book.

I love the combination of Lani and Luke with Zak and Zoe as the sleuths. This is a great read. If you have not read this series take a vicarious vacation to Maui as you join the characters in solving the mystery. I would recommend this book (as well as all of this author’s other series) to anyone who enjoys a well-written, clean cozy mystery. You cannot go wrong reading anything that she has written. I'm looking forward to the next time these couples get together. Disclosure: I voluntarily reviewed copy of this book.

An exciting crossover novel featuring characters from two of my favorite Kathi Daley series!
This one is so tense and dangerous that the dogs had to sit out this adventure.
A contest with a million dollar prize draws teams of Brains and Brawn on a combination hacking and location based clue finding scavenger hunt. Lani Pope is the brawn, being a very fit water rescue worker. Zak Zimmerman is the brains, being among the top computer experts in the country. Together they should make an unbeatable team but their presence in this contest is not for the grand prize. They are there to discover the cause of death of a contestant. They soon realize this contest is a cover for something more sinister.
Fortunately they have with them Zoe and Luke to strengthen their sleuthing team.

Their travels around Maui, chasing down clues, while beautifully described, also provides some interesting historical references.
Despite feeling ill most of the time, Zoe can not deny her curiosity and investigative instincts. She and Lani share those traits which tend to place them in harm's way. This time it is Lani who seems more hesitant to follow those tendencies. She knows there is much more going on than the team has figured out so far. It is good to be tuned into your gut feelings.
It is also good to have friends with proper connections.

Everyone involved brings something unique to this very dangerous mystery adventure.
An exciting read I could not put down.

This story takes place on Maui, not the island Lani calls home, so a few of the normal crew are absent, but we have the addition of Zoe & Zak, a crossover from the author's Zoe Donovan series - nice way to keep this series fresh! I loved the takeoff on a reality show - the one in this story is called Brains and Brawn - involving physical agility as well as hacking skills, which is the reason for Zoe and Zak coming to Maui. I liked the inclusion of the mysterious Shredder, Lani's friend from Oahu with the "government" contacts, as well as allowing Zak with his computer skills to shine in this book rather than Zoe being in the forefront - I found the storyline to be much more of a team effort rather than individual effort in solving the crime. I thoroughly enjoyed the Maui backdrop - rich with detail about places to see there which was great for me being the armchair traveler that I am! The author comes up with the most unusual storylines - despite having written many books, none of them have ever been a boring read for me. There is never duplication or a change in the quality of her stores - they are always well-written, excellent reads that I can't recommend highly enough.

This is another cross-over novel, bringing Zoe and Zak to Hawaii to join Lani and Luke in their latest adventure. When Lani learns of the death of her friend's sister, possibly by murder, she replaces her in a million-dollar competitive couples game that combines the talents of a computer hacker along with the agility and strength of their partner. Having recently met Zak (see "Easter Escapade"), she decided to ask him and Zoe to join her in solving the mystery of her friend's death. They soon find themselves immersed in the game, trying to figure out if there are ulterior motives to either the promoters or the players. The story gave a great view of Hawaii and all of the historical sites and tales, as well as keeping the mystery topmost. I really enjoyed the connection between the main characters of Zak, Zoe, Lani and even Luke, as well as the intricate hacks and enigmatic clues. I look forward to more combined stories in the future. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing a copy of this book.

Murder at Waters Edge (Sand and Sea Hawaiian Mystery book 6) (Vol.6)
By: Kathi Daley
Murder at Waters Edge is book six in Sand and Sea Hawaiian Mystery Series. I really love these cross over novels that bring Zoe and Zak to Hawaii to join Lani and Luke in a possible murder case. The story is well written and the characters are well developed. Daley captured me right at the start and I was hooked. Zoe and Zak join forces with Lani and Luke after Lani’s friends sister ,Cammy, has possibly been murdered. They join in a million-dollar competitive contest game with others that Cammy was in. They are in a race for their life. What is behind this competition that is very strange and mysterious ? Can these two couples put their skills together and solve this case before it is to late? Don’t forget to look in the back at the recipes Daley has added. They all look and sound good.

When Lani’s friend Bethany calls to say Bethany’s sister was killed in a tragic accident while participating in a contest in Maui, Bethany is convinced Cammy was murdered. Lani takes a vacation and goes to Maui to investigate. With Luke on the mainland, Lani invites Zoe and Zak Zimmerman to join her not only to find out the truth behind Cammy’s death, but to take her place in the games. Things aren’t adding up and they realize the mystery goes deeper than the death. Luke returns from the mainland just in time to help solve this mystery.
This is the sixth book in the Sea and Sand Hawaiian mysteries and it really enjoyed having Zak and Zoe in the middle of the mystery again. A great read – one you can’t put down!

In a previous book Lani and her boyfriend Luke are away from Hawaii visiting Ashton Falls. And of course who do they meet and become friends with..Zoe and Zak! In Murder at Waters Edge, Lani is called by a friend who asks her to look into the death of her sister who fell or was pushed off a cliff in a really unusual contest. The finals are on Maui. Lani immediately realizes she needs a partner for this active and computer hacker contest to win a million dollars. She instantly calls Zak the computer wizard and Zoe to come over. Whether or not you are a Kathi Daley fan, this book that continues to combine to fab series makes for exciting murder solving! Just read all of Kathi Daileys books!

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Lani receives a call from a good friend who tells her that her sister, Cammy, was killed in a supposed accident while involved in a brain and brawn contest where computer hacking is involved. Cammy had discovered some information that things were not as they seemed and that there was a lot at stake. Lani agrees to be a substitute for Cammy and calls Zoe and Zac to see if they'll help having Zac be the brain while she's the brawn. Zac immediately sees that the end game is going to be revealed soon so Lani calls Shredder in to get the right people involved for taking down the bad guys.

This was a great book that holds your interest. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. My one issue is that the book never told us why Zoe was so sick.

Maui Murder & Mayhem

Another great crossover adventure with Zak, Zoe, Lani & Luke as they join a computer hacking competition and try to solve a mysterious death. The treasure hunt part of the competition provides some historical information as they look for clues. The competition gets serious - in more ways than one - as teams are eliminated. Of course, the good guys win in the end, but it might not be the end you anticipate. I'm looking forward to the next time these four get together. Once again, Kathi Daley does not disappoint.
